Over the weekend, the House approved proposals intended to make the electricity grid stronger through weatherization, a process in which the state’s energy infrastructure would be better equipped to handle weather extremes such as prolonged stretches of freezing temperatures like Texas endured as the result of mid-February winter storms. The brutal weather conditions, some of the most intense experienced by Texas in decades, effectively paralyzed the state with snow, ice and dangerous wind chills. As electricity demand surged, the power grid that serves approximately 90% of the state failed, leaving millions of Texans without power and water.
