CRT is a derivative of Critical Theory, developed in the Frankfort School in Germany in the 1930s, drawing on the ideas of Karl Marx. CRT substitutes racial division for the class warfare inspired by Marxism. Both confuse collective "rights" of groups of people measured by one characteristic with the rights and inherent worth of unique individuals seeking freedom—those self-evident truths in our Declaration of Independence.
Parents across America, of all races, are protesting CRT's inclusion in their children's education: white people are oppressors while black people in particular are the oppressed, a monolithic and historically simplistic argument. In some schools, children are already being instructed in white privilege and white guilt, and are being taught to judge other people first by the color of their skin. Whatever problems need to be addressed in our country, trying to address perceived racism by instilling new racist attitudes through racist lenses is not the way.
