The day nine airmen took off from RAF Bradwell ... and caused havoc in Southminster pubs

I SEEM to be receiving quite a few enquiries lately about the history of the old airfield at Bradwell.
I don’t suppose it’s that surprising really, bearing in mind that the proposed second generation power station will sweep away the remains of all that is left of this special wartime heritage.
People are understandably concerned, but I guess it’s a case of you don’t realise what you have until it is about to be taken away from you.
As well as the usual questions about the surviving buildings, squadron deployment, the casualties listed on the memorial and the countless brave missions flown out of the aerodrome, people are particularly keen to find out about the social side of things – especially, it would seem, which pubs the personnel used to frequent.
