Joe Courtney announced Friday that $700,000 has been included in a round of congressional bills for a new computer-aided emergency dispatch system. Norwich police Chief Patrick Daley said he submitted the request to Courtney’s office when the congressman sought funding priority needs from municipalities in the 2nd Congressional District. Courtney announced Friday the funding was included in bills approved Thursday night by the House Appropriations Committee. The fire services study presented to the City Council in February urged upgrades to the emergency fire dispatch and fire radios and communications equipment. Daley said the emergency dispatch computer system is a key component of the upgrade. The city’s current dispatch computer system was installed in 2003 and is nearly 20 years old, Daley said.
