Norwich A key recommendation in a study of the city’s fire services needs could receive federal funding in the coming months, as U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney announced Friday that $700,000 has been included in a round of congressional bills for a new computer-aided emergency dispatch system.
Norwich police Chief Patrick Daley said he submitted the request to Courtney’s office when the congressman sought funding priority needs from municipalities in the 2nd Congressional District. Courtney announced Friday the funding was included in bills approved Thursday night by the House Appropriations Committee.
The fire services study presented to the City Council in February urged upgrades to the emergency fire dispatch and fire radios and communications equipment. Daley said the emergency dispatch computer system is a key component of the upgrade. The city’s current dispatch computer system was installed in 2003 ....

AARP Connecticut recently selected Reliance Health in Norwich and the Groton Library Circle of Friends as two of five awardees for AARP Connecticut’s third Livable Communities Grant Program.
The program is dedicated to fund quick-action projects in Connecticut communities that will help make immediate improvements or jumpstart long-term progress that will support residents. AARP Connecticut funded seven projects in 2019 and four in 2018, the first year of the program.
The grant will help the Groton Public Library create the Library Book Bike and Mobile Information Kiosk, a custom-built tricycle with attached trailer box that can hold up to 600 pounds of library items, including Wi-Fi hotspot, books, fold out table, electronics charging station, pamphlets and flyers. ....
