Elizabeth Kolbert staff writer for the New Yorker and also the writer of the book "The Sixth Extinction," which won the Pulitzer Prize, gave a warning that the Earth is "very close to another mass extinction" in large part because of climate change.
Kolbert was born in 1961. She is an American journalist, author, and she usually visits Williams college. Kolbert spent her early childhood in the Bronx, New York; her family then moved to Larchmont, New York, where she stayed until 1979.

Major Mass Extinctions
In the last 500 million years there have been about five major mass extinctions, Kolbert gave an explanation to Major Garrett, CBS News chief Washington correspondent in an interview for the episode of this week's "The Takeout" podcast. The world is presently in a "moment of a very increased rate of extinction," and if rates keep up at this high level, the earth could face an incident similar to dinosaur extinction in the near future.
