The toast of Marlborough: Two sandwiches reach toastie takeo

“We personified all our toasties and created stereotypes for each flavour, so they’ve all got human names.
“For Pete, we made up this character that is just a born-and-bred local who loves water, so we thought ‘Pete’.
“When we moved here we found out pretty quickly that this is a town about seafood, and we wanted to showcase that.”
'Pete from Picton', the toastie, was Marlborough salmon, cream cheese with lemon, dill and capers, McClure’s pickles and Parmesan garnish.
All toasties in the Great New Zealand Toastie Takeover had to have two slices of bread, cheese and McClure's pickles. And they had to be eaten by hand.
