That decision draws ire to this day among certain groups. Gov. Greg Abbott showed his distaste for the policies in a January forum on law enforcement and calls to defund police that followed the Black Lives Matter movement. "We have a problem in Dallas where we have a district attorney who refuses to prosecute some people who knowingly commit crimes. ... that sets a standard and sends a message to people of that community," Abbott said at the forum adding that the policy encourages other people to engage in crime.
