6:39 Sandra Averhart talks with Malcolm Thomas about his three terms as Superintendent of Schools for Escambia County. Malcolm Thomas served 12 years as Superintendent of Schools in Escambia County, the district’s last elected superintendent. He turned over the reins to the district’s first-ever appointed superintendent in November. After his departure, WUWF spoke to Thomas about his 3-terms in office and the close of his 40-years in education. Thomas started his career at Tate High School, teaching special education there for eight years, before joining the district administration in 1987. He was elected as Superintendent in 2008. It hasn’t really hit him yet that his four decades as an educator are over.
