As of Christmas Day, 37 of the stateâs 55 counties in the state were coded as red on the Department of Health and Human Resources map as West Virginia continues administering the initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Only two counties were green or yellow â one in each category, and three were gold, those considered the âbestâ designations. Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties were all in red as of the holiday, Berkeley and Morgan both spending the final week of school prior to the holiday break in the âworstâ of the designations. Like the vast majority of the counties, the three local counties spent the entirety of last week with both the infection rate and positivity rate in red.
