Severe weather brought a tornado and more than 2 inches of rain to the Sarasota-Bradenton area over the weekend, causing an estimated $1 million in damage and injuring one woman. The National Weather Service confirmed on Monday that an EF 1 tornado touched down in Bradenton on Saturday at about 5:45 p.m. with estimated winds of about 95 mph. The tornado started about two miles west of Bayshore Gardens in the area of The Fairways at El Conquiastador; it was about 50 yards wide and traveled about a half-mile. “There were five-unit townhomes that sustained major damage, with a rough estimate of over $1 million from that tornado,” weather service meteorologist John McMichael said. “The tornado was moving to the southeast, and the majority of the damage was on the east side of the homes.”
