LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Tippecanoe County is seeing an increase in suicides and while the pandemic may be partially to blame, there's another factor to consider. WLFI spoke with the president of Mental Health America and she said a lack of access to treatment could also be contributing to this tragic increase.
"It's scary. It's very scary," said Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello. She said suicides have increased 150 percent in the first four months of 2021. The county reported 15 suicides since January up from 6 in the same span of 2020.
