Radio Jersey. The 1st at 7 minutes past 8 o'clock For years politicians and developers have been talking about how to make the north of St had a more pleasant place to live to work and to shop and now the area is set to be completely transformed after plans for a 2nd Premier Inn Hotel and nearly $150.00 flights have been approved They'll also be a new restaurant shops and a walkway linking the millennium town park with the jazz you know every now jazz he's freedom church owns the former cinema right in the middle of it all and it's been supporting the project and thinks it would benefit the community and that part of town Tate past and her degree she is with me this morning morning tea naming the coming in so you're going to have a lot of new neighbors soon as I said How you feeling about the decision yesterday I think we're really pleased in terms of for the island as a whole I think overall the in the private money coming into that part of town in terms of developing giving an exciting new feel to that part of town will be a great will be a great thing it's a it's an area of town that's been has felt quite neglected over many years and I think this this investment in terms of creating the walkways a very new and fresh feel I think it also gives a value to the people that live currently live in that area that actually there's some investment into that part of town and you've been there how long now remind me what we bought the Odeon 7 years ago and have slowly been transforming the inside of the building externally it looks pretty much the same as what it did then but internally you know we've been turning the building around for us it's always. It's been a building in the heart of community and I think so many people have fond memories of the building because people used to come from all over the island to watch films obviously have close and I speak to Constable some in Krakow town council a little earlier on and he said he didn't I wasn't a fan of the facade the fifty's look and feel of it what do people say to you about their memories of that building Well funnily enough we had an open day roughly 3 to 4 months ago and when we invited the public to come and have a look around what we had done with the building so far because externally a lot of people had not realized that actually anything was happening but for us what's been crucial throughout all the years is that this building that has been at the heart community remains in the community and without exception people's response to what was taking place inside was was was real excitement or what have you been doing inside them so most of our work has taken place in terms of where we engage with with public is all on the ground floor currently and so we have a number of different activities which are open to absolutely everybody so we currently once a month we have what we call a Revive cafe where we work with local food providers and who within health and safety have to move food on before its sell by date and so forth so we work with them we take that food in we work with local chefs and we create amazing meals which are then cooked on that day and people come our say once a month on a Friday you book online and we give a recommended figure of 15 pounds a head but basically people call and afford it or can't pay they don't pay but it's very much a community activity making me hungry listening to that it sounds like you know a commune. Sees alive and well inside the building you mentioned it is felt it down at least maybe out that way what's the sense of community like side of the building with your neighbors well we see that part of town is I think one of the most densely populated parts of the island I think I think figures are roughly $900000.00 people within a square mile and we just wanted to take the opportunity to provide a community facility yes as as a church but really loving people and we we once a month now we have. An outreach called gems to those over 60 feeling you know these people incredibly precious individuals but for many of them Eric's perience is they they are lonely and don't particularly necessarily have an outlet so we create an opportunity as a little oasis to come together play games have the opportunity to chat eat together and enjoy one another's company so you hoping then that because they'll be people around you will see more people inside the building is that the hope Yeah I think I think it's not just inside the building obviously that's a great that's a great benefit by thing for the community as a whole when I think if you create that there's opportunity to create a great community vibe where a place where people feel really thrilled and excited to be I mean the park has done that to a large degree where people come have their lunch sit and enjoy in or around the area I mean in terms of you know coming back to the old Odeon used to do in terms of cinema we also have opportunity for families individuals within the community once a month on a Sunday morning we show free films. To the public where. Parents or guardians can bring children like you want some of the old Disney classics it's all free of charge but it's just a way of interacting with community and provide. A little bit of an oasis of a space and also of time and pointing out the obvious there's going to be offended of work going on around there in the not too distant future obviously as a means to an end but all you anticipating a bit of a headache in terms of access and dust and just general noise in the area I'm sure there's obviously with the development of that size and nature there's going to be a lot of trucks in an hour a lot of heavy works but I think once we've ironed out some of those fun of discussions access will be will be available to see to get in touch through the front door and in many respects business as usual Rich is really what community is all about it's about the people. Excited that there be a massive face lift and investment into that community obviously opposite the front door any concerns full you know there's been talk about infrastructure there's another big development that's happening the other side of the town hall gas place any concerns for you about you know the numbers of callers. Of course great touch people in the area today the likelihood is that traffic will increase in the area to for sure I mean those are you know that those policies are really set and and governed by by the appropriate parties and bodies but for us it's a we're always been about people business and terms of just loving people if there's community opportunities to love them and to care for them and provide spaces and a service whereby they feel that there's a place that is very much there is a part of their community and do you think that in that case will kind of herald a new chapter for the freedom Church new faces and a different feel to what's going on out sides of your home Sure I mean absolutely I mean that currently. Happens we have or we are currently meet up a whole new school as a church but we have been running a service down in the old o.d.m. Which called Freedom Center now for provide 18 months and we've seen obviously a lot of new faces come through the doors and people with just in and around the community walking by I've seen stuff starting to happen people coming in and out on a Sunday morning coming for a little look see I'm coming and remaining and which has been which has been fantastic so we've been really excited by that because it's been a place where people felt comfortable being thank you for your time this morning nice to see that was passed under a degree she died from Jessie's freedom church plan as have given the green light for a new Premier Inn and more than 100 homes on Bastrop he's close to 150 work on the 70000000 pounds investment in the north of town will start early next year as buildings close to the old Odeon cinema a sets to be demolished later on we'll hear from a local building experts he supported schools from Save Jesse's heritage to save and restore buildings nearby it is 60 minutes past 8 o'clock. He thought was coming to his own that want to stay away so 109888 for now that the headlines with Christiane good morning and morning the constable of the local church leader welcome plans for nearly 150 flights they say will revitalize the area but heritage campaigners on happy Jersey's new bailiff Timothy the cork will be sworn in today as fly b. Is about to be renamed virgin connect its boss says the island will stay a key part of its network of weather today as you were really cloudy with scattered showers and some sunny periods the top temperature of 16 with the wind from the south moderate force for the fresh force 5. Really seem radio Jersey travel Thanks Chris I'm going to start at the harbor. The condo repeat from Somalia is here it arrived at 10 minutes past 8 this morning the good will was where there's a 20 to 7 from Portsmouth and gun safe and I can tell you that the rough it should be leaving is around 10 past 9 this warning at the airports everything in and out on time will own near enough near enough for me anyway with one exception the London safety flight the spirit 1030 instead will be here just after $1130.00 so an hour delay on that one and that should they be safe the next. 12 isn't but it should be touching down just after $830.00 to about half an hour delay on that one take. Unsent had been hoping to arrive in Brussels this morning for an e.u. Summit to sign off on a break sit deal but intensive talks between British and the negotiators yesterday failed to deliver an agreement despite positive signals that one was close to being nailed down the sticking point which is preventing a breakthrough appears to be the position of the pay as Unionists they fear that in order to deliver Bracks its Northern Ireland will have to adopt rules which differ from mainland Britain so as to avoid checks on goods crossing the border on the island of violent Nicholas Watts has the latest for us as a very clear account kill ation if the prime minister doesn't have the d.p. He does not have a safe parliamentary route if he manages to get a deal now it's interesting I was talking to ministers who know the deal u.p.a. Has been depleted to talk to them and they are picking up a very very easy mood among impression is that the deal is concerned about the 3 issues that have been associated with them a concern about the 1st all those customs checks between Northern Ireland and Great Britain the 2nd is the consent that Northern Ireland would have to that and in the 3rd place concerns about being not wholly part of the u.k. V 18 regime because they would be following in some ways the Customs Union in Northern Ireland and I have to say the sort of mood music I'm hearing from the d. You Peter there saying there's too much enthusiasm around people should not get so carried away and it would be wrong to assume that the d u p is automatically going to sign up to a deal if there is a deal the mood sort of on picking up among some in Number 10 is that the deal never want to own a solution and the hope is what the best would be is that they would sulkily acquiesce sulkily acquiescence there from Nicholas what Boris Johnson had been hoping to arrive in Brussels this morning for an e.u. Summit to just sign off on a back seat deal but intensive talks between British and you negotiate is yesterday for. To deliver that agreement although they were up till 2 o'clock in the morning all your reporter Gavin Lee was telling us he's been in Brussels and has been watching I think he's one of those that got about 4 hours kip as as well we will watch that one with Interesting keep you right up to date the front pages though of course dominee says by those ongoing negotiations Breck's it on a knife edge the headline for both the times in the Daily Mirror which reports that Boris Johnson plans for his plans for a new deal hanging in the balance and the Guardian saying that the prime minister is engaged in a last minute scramble as he tries to secure the backing of the party Meanwhile the ira for is on a small French basis looking to capitalize on bricks hit by selling limited edition bowls of sparkling wine the phase which is available in both why some raw you say need a variety right contains flakes of real gold apparently and is available online for just you know cool price of 138 quid a bottle of big come all the specially engraved label reads Brax it so we made history which you bought a bottle the owner of the company tells the paper that a French businessman has bought several bottles to presenting to you his British clients to just help inject some humor into the case exit from the it's no laughing matter as far as I'm concerned as to see the front pages of the papers had a bit to b.b.c. . Cank. Now with all the focus from the team of the jazzy Metformin to remember last year when it looked like Saw would be going dog because the price of electricity might have to go down to $50.00 people units Well David Gordon Brown he manages silk electricity said he couldn't afford it at that price and now he says he's going to have to put out the $85.00 pay for the unit and that would make so one of the most expensive places in the world selectee the price control commissioner says well that's not fair I know of cases where people turn off their freezers on a Friday night and only turn them in on again on the Monday and it's an attempt to save their electricity bills people with young families can't afford to run is the tumble dryer as it's it's not easy and Omar is about $85.00 pence a kilo how that will cause real problems to people on the island by splitting the company into in 2014 he duplicated some of the costs which again now I think is unfair for customers to take these unnecessary additional costs if shareholders decide to split the company into 2 it's the shareholders who should pay those costs not the customers. And so the conversations continue I insult then that was Dr Anthony why the electricity price control commissioner David Gordon Brown wants to put the price of electricity off and he says if the commission steps in it could all be Eva for him he does at the company that bankrupt and that's not what people want so I got to fight that account deficit except that now would be foolish I think is desperate. But I have a company that has to earn this much money I suspends Iraq cosseted put up quite enormous state by this law they were introduced we warned them that when that rule with guns it cost does actually 400000 pounds a year and it was going to much cheaper in Sark green somebody to go to the phone Governor and ask him to send somebody in independent look at the situation created or a pope ort that we're not that would tell a body what the real truth is once we have the truth out there tend to do we can make decisions so what is the situation like then Victoria slaves in salt can she says going dark is the least of their worries the real problem isn't the lights going out it's the televisions going off for those who have them it isn't the washing machines real problem is the water because everybody on Sark I think has their water from a well off from a pole if you're fortunate enough to have a well the power goes out he can at least rope a bucket and put it into the water it won't be necessarily filtered because we all filter old water but you will if you're using a bore hole you will have no water it's a
