It's time for you up to date with what happened very very bad tempered exchanges in the Commons yesterday from M.P.'s of all sides of all persuasions will bring you bang up to date very very shortly But next a city council team dedicated to bringing empty houses back into use is calling on people to report properties which have fallen empty you know just like don't you if you've seen a building which has just maybe gone to wrack and ruin slightly no one's been living in it all sorts of issues arise don't they that it's seems a real waste and also it can cause anti-social behavior and all sorts of different problems well Bridget Blair has been to see an empty house in the new found pool area of the city to see just what impact that it's been having on those who live right close by what you think about empty houses you know move something out I think they should be filled up a lot quicker than they are the moment and are not for people to live in because they just end up people breaking in their views known to the trucks and everything and it's just not fair on the people in the community the kids play they don't know what to expect to get their men in the houses from and they're not being used to get the rats commune in the gardens Anderson it's just not very nice for the children to play as. We're right in front of the house Yeah now the time to you know what's it like living next to it not very knowledge sits or you know the garden it was a study the a wild it was rat some reports you know in the came in you know the fumigate such come out and everything in it been since well since up in about 2 years yeah it's probably longer so it just made me feel you know it was just nobody in h. There's an outgoing and it won't even let him eat out or anything it could have just let it out and this will to stop told us it wasn't very nice to tell it was really bad for me when it 1st was empty lots of course because the dog wasn't even locked so people were just becoming an enemy might be party would be happening to see we lives by its terraced houses and. Then we can Harrison It's not nice at night when you can hear people walking free you don't even know bit scary sometimes in a few minutes we can become a the peace coming out or 3 am trying to get through our car to get into the house to arrest the squad car so not my reason at all with me is Carol Thompson who's team leader of the Mt Home state left the city council because you've obviously know this place wow and I suspect that the maybe she found being quite polite about what's been going on there is an adorable. Yes we've been dealing with that particular property in many of the empty properties through our city for quite a while and with consistency perseverance we've finally managed to get that one compulsory purchase we got confirmed order on it we try to work with owners and often the public and not aware of you know what goes on behind the scenes but we need to establish exactly why the properties empty. Listen to the owners concerns because they often have them and work with them but we always set time scales for them to do certain things and if they don't do them we always follow up then we move the property to the next stage in the process so I've got a team of dedicated offices that are all very experienced now I've got 4 of them they work citywide tirelessly to get these properties bought back into use it's very frustrating but we continue once we get once we know the property is genuinely empty and it's cool it's very problematic at this particular was finally at the end of the process if the owner does not do what they say they're going to do and we give we have to demonstrate that we worked with the owners then we get a confirmed order now the executive since 2004 have approved a total of 119 properties for compulsory purchase back and so when you when you've managed to get a house back into into your right in the shape what will happen say well you know it's now going to happen to that house and you can pull that that's caused so much hassle to die right so it's not in the possession of the council we we have already taken steps to clear the garden which was completely inaccessible so the next stage then is to get the property put into action we tend to do that some properties we also. Purchase internally to replenish the housing stock under the affordable homes program this is a problem it's never the act is it just there isn't enough housing to go around for everyone who needs it whether it's a set of 3 housing associations private ownership that kind of thing it just seems such a terrible waste doesn't it but it is a waste of a resource and as you said we've got acute housing shortage in less there but also nationally and we've got a total of $4965.00 empty properties citywide that we are aware of so if I can for a total of $4965.00 properties within less the city that is astonishing Yes and she properties that are just sitting that yes with no one in them yes so we are aware of those and currently are not active caseload and we deal with the long term empty properties over 18 months so we're dealing with $300.00 in 3 properties at the minute and about 3 percent of those have gone through to legal where we start the process the compulsory purchase what are some of the reasons that the property owners are telling you about why they are just leaving these places just you know to roll out Yes I mean I have to say that we deal with privately owned properties and owners sometimes a property may be appropriate probate Sometimes the owner may be in a care home so we need to establish exactly why the properties with those types of properties. We could see but that's compulsory where we monitor those because you know it's quite sensitive area so we want to see those on a regular basis to see if when the circumstances change what can be done to bring it back into use but then there's all the properties that may have a legal dispute there maybe a dispute between siblings because they've inherited the property because it doesn't quite so. Doesn't it you know when you think you've got this massive resource 5000 properties potentially could house plate after all it is is there any way you can speed things up well because we have to produce evidence that we've worked with openness if say you know the properties derelict or the gardens overgrown You know you know they've got health issues often this there's certain things I mean obviously we can't go into detail about specific cases due to the general data protection regulation but we are often aware and in touch with the owners so we are working with them behind the scenes maybe that's the thing behind the scenes as we just had a few messages you know not from people living in the city I should say so it wouldn't be under your remit but Pat's been in touch to say that there's a property on need tonight in Wigton that's been empty and derelict for the last 20 years plus rise in disgrace no one seems to do anything about it what would you do if that's happening in your story yeah I have to say that we lost city council there with the city boundary so weeks' time would think it's likely be the council . O.p.m. We could restore it and so sometimes the properties that are reported to us they're not within our boundary. So we would refer the caller or the person who's reporting it through to that because you're all phony to yeah cause you don't know these these halves are there and unless people tell you I mean this is what this is all about isn't it you have to know yeah these properties are yes yes so it is national empty homes week I have to say and what what what we want him to do is speak to members of the public encouraging them to report the properties which is often the 1st way that we get a referral this property's to we will always look into the circumstance and the situation to some properties fall outside the home strategy and we can deal with them but we will always let the person that reports the property know that either it's been added to the case load or it's outside the arena. Safely away almost looking at it I just want to mention this text that's coming as well from someone in Shep shared So again not the city but you all but your advice might be useful on this is your view on this saying there was a gentleman who lived a few houses away from me who had mobility issues wants to have an empty bungalow they said he couldn't because there were 13 people waiting for it but that there was a property sitting there and for 3 years very frustrating for people it didn't say when just when they see a house or a home that would be suitable and they don't think Yes So I mean on that I need to know a bit more about yeah I can stance because it may be that that. Council house which then would be referred to housing options if it's a privately owned landlord then we may be able to get in touch and see if that's if it was in the city boundaries so again we would look at as it comes in and it would be referred on to the terms team caseload or the person who's made the inquiry we would go back to them and say we've looked into the situation and they are keep them in their very briefly if if someone is sitting listening to this and they're looking out of their window and as I'm listening I am to property over the road it's driving them nuts because nothing seems to be happening what they did I'd like you to go on to report the property by email that is 3 options it would be empty homes lest dot gov dot u.k. Bus email address the phone number if you prefer telephone would be 011-645-4510 extension 0 website is Lester dot gov dot u.k. Forward slash so we'd love to hear from you and I can cry and then we can also have a look into any of the properties and the detectives and sets of eyes to get a sion Carroll thank you thank God it's nice to meet you and just finding out what goes on behind the scenes are you listening to breakfast on b.b.c. Radio Leicester It's just after $815.00 some days out. The man b.b.c. Radio I'm awful noise summer Sunday troubles for the last time this week we've been telling some of the best garden centers in the county and this weekend will be an end to the problem as there's some very slowly into the feeder think about in the garden of the down to a team of experts with so why not have a chance we would really love to see. Some do something with not just gardening help but the usual history and see it with me Dave Andrews from Commerce garden center in this Sunday from the day b.b.c. Radio left. A voice right Boris Johnson facing fresh control to say that seems to be a daily mantra and say in his 1st appearance in the Commons since his decision to suspend parliament was ruled on lawful now in amongst the people coming to commenting on this last night was left for m.p. Nikki Morgan she tweeted that at the time of strong feelings we all need to remind ourselves of the effect of everything we say on those watching us something that is rather a rebuke to her boss in the cabinet where the pm is being accused of using inflammatory language which could incite violence and his reaction to complaints from M.P.'s hasn't helped that they have bought it he was subject to that right it appears that if they decide that they tell the prime minister that I'll still quote his words the right words out the trial they tell you how Thank God I'm sick of it it's. Moderate how long wait I have to say to just be cried never heard talk Tom Bodett all my life was right Boris Johnson's response that's m.p. Poor sheriff Well our political correspondent Paul Rowley has been watching what's been going on could this Maypole that there the passion and the anger that came through yesterday was really something else wasn't it was awful frankly I've been a Westminster fall. 32 years this month I have never seen scenes that I experienced last night Joe The mood was angry it was nasty it was vindictive maybe it is reflecting the why did divisions in society at large of a brick sit at present but both the prime minister and the attorney general having lost in the course went on the offensive big style straight away I mean the words they were using some might say a rather incendiary surrender betrayal traitor accusing people of of sabotage I mean it's almost wartime terminology the prime minister was asked to moderate his language after the murder of Joe Cox in the referendum campaign 3 years ago but his response was to say well the best way to honor Joe Cox was to get Breck's it done well considering that she was someone who was. On the remains side of the argument she was campaigning when she was stabbed to death by a far right extremist I think that is an incendiary comment one m.p. Use a close friend of hers was saying that she she to it had death threats Boris Johnson's response you've just heard it was to accuse her of humbug Joe Swinson the Liberal Democrat leader said that only yesterday she had to go to the police because their young son was being threatened amidst all this and Alice subarea like me she's been around a long time 62 years old she told us yesterday she looks younger doesn't she but she was saying that when she frankly she was in tears when she was speaking I mean somebody was saying to me last night while all this was going on it looks as though Parliament's having a collective nervous breakdown and frankly I can't disagree with that you know I mean Parliament sitting again this morning I wonder if they're spent all whether we can expect more of the same well I hope they've gone down a bit I mean certainly there will be a motion to suspend parliament again only for 3 days this time because the Conservative Party conference is being held next week in Manchester Some say they'll vote against it but I suspect it will get through. I mean it's already started I mean the difficulty is the government only you know the law on the front for last night and you know blaming the courts blaming parliament blaming the opponents for the stalemate over breaks that labor this morning blaming the prime minister of orchestrating all this it's not it's very unseemly what's happening I mean I know that that there I thought the intervention you rightly said by Nikki Morgan was important because she sits alongside Boris Johnson in the cabinet over this John Bercow the Commons Speaker has offered a chair a cross party meeting to try to take the heat out of everything I'm not entirely sure of if he's the right person to do this the oddity is Joe it's only because of the legal challenge that failed as far as the government's concerned the parliament is now sitting again and I think after yesterday's scenes I suspect some of those M.P.'s who fought to reopen the place may well be having 2nd thoughts Ok Thank you Paul Paul Rowley reporting on the truly extraordinary times at the moment 21 minutes past 8 it's been a grim old morning weather wise but has it looking on the raids down. Yes Karen a little busier in a sense are actually not a road our boundary looking quite recently close circuit through tomorrow also slow and both great circle inbound experience like uses Well we do expect the morning rush to be a little more congested than normal true to the weather and outlook for roadworks will be in operation stay. On Frederick Street near to Coldwell street unpack street and remember you can always tweet us at a.t.c. Lester if you do spawn in else. We'll have more for you again in 20 minutes. B.b.c. Radio last. I did that would be a bit more positive about the weather now I like 5 hour sort of moans and groans about it for the past few days but do you know there is a slight bit of blue in the sky it's just broken through to gladdening my heart filling me with joy going to bode well it's going to be very autumnal for the next few days and that means yes there will be some glimpses of sunshine also lots of wet and windy weather on the way as well so this morning yearly morning cloud and wet weather that's been with us through the rush hour will continue to clear and that means the clouds will start to thin and break there should be some sunny spells through the morning in the afternoon there will be more passing showers but again some brightness to it will be rather breezy with a fresh south westerly wind and highs of around 18 degrees Celsius then through this evening and tonight will be mainly dry ice the late spells of sunshine will give way to clear spells after dusk with just a chance of a passing shower of around 11 degrees Celsius there tomorrow it'll be a mainly dry start to the day with some sunny spells However showers will spread eastwards later again some of those could be heavy or thunder a with highs of 16 degrees Celsius will be mainly dry and reasonably bright at 1st on Saturday with some sunny spells but it'll become rather cloudy later with spells of rain spreading in from the southwest along with freshening winds and night will have heavy rain and strong winds coming into Sunday morning Sunday looks like sunshine and blustery showers before it becomes dry run brighter on Monday Ok Thank you Alex do you know I. I think it might be time to light a fire thing to me sweet came last week with I always get ridiculously excited when the chimney sweeps being just seems like I feel like I'm in Mary Poppins or something and he's a great guy he's run off his feet at the moment he has been busy since July he says he'll be frantic now through the winter months but we're all set in already and the winter blankets out on the sofas and I think this weekend's might be the time to to get the fires going in just embrace the autumn because it's well and truly here isn't that it's 24 minutes past 8 now as you've been hearing in the news Leicestershire Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of 21 year old Mohammed to be able in the sympathies area in Leicester now is an area of the city which has gone through substantial changes over the years so it was once known for being one of the most deprived and rundown estates in the city but through the hard work of loads of people he lived there and and he work with residents local community members It's Have a great transformation over the years but I suppose this latest news is a bit of a not back for the community Well one man who is it's just you know so far it is going to keep on without work is Simon Johnson from the charity St Matthew's big local morning Simon Good morning good morning just remind us why you love some Matthies I should say not these because it's a really close community and everyone gets and so I think that well you know I have a really good strong cultural background people. Want to different cultures and everyone comes together as unity strong neighborhood and we work we work it's a work in the community farm. And we can't teach what keep our. On kind of proving the reputation of the site map because it does sometimes have a negative reputational work also kind of combat that because it's not radio anybody who lives down here and works out here knows what it wonderful community it is and what are some of the projects you're particularly proud that you've worked on recently. When we do so you know we have a 10 year project and we actually concert with the community we consulted up to $650.00 members of the community and they actually told us what they want to stay in the community so each year we did a riff me about their team projects and that could be anything from simple things like taking people on trips and days that organizing our annual community which was inexpensive here to share that you know that some people came to but we also do things like offer people training courses so that they can gain additional skills to do simple things are going to argue pass for young people so they can get a part you had and postcode it because it isn't always
