And feeling today so you. Want to. Start your message with the word radio. On the. Conservative majority which is. The result. How did you feel how do you feel now. With the word of. The story. And bring you any breaking stories or resignations as we go through the morning but I want to hear from you what are your thoughts about the next 5 years. This. Sorry this is pike and continuing to tell the story and the aftermath of the overnight results as they were. Morning. And the conservatives come out swinging the general election with a majority of 78 but I want to hear from you with your reaction to that did that go the way you wanted it to did that surpass your expectations are you massively disappointed the Smalling do you think BRICs it will get done now do you think that big majority of 78 gives Boris Johnson the mandate he needs to carry through what he wants to do what are you feeling about this morning this was spurious Johnson an hour or so ago speaking after last night's big win as the nation hands us this historic mandate we must rise to the challenge and to the level of expectations and Parliament must change so that we in parliament are working for you the British people and that is what we will now do isn't it that is what do I do let's next guys let's go out and get on with this unite this country let's spread opportunity to every corner of the u.k. With 2 public education supposing infrastructure and technology let's get bricks it done but 1st my friends let's get breakfast done. That. Was 81333 is my text number start your message with the word radio want to know what you are feeling and thinking about the result of this general election today you can call we turn 280-587-1046 extension 02 Tina ensure Hello Tina morning hello. How you feeling this morning. Very very happy obviously right. Which bit of it is making you happy Well I just feel very relieved Cotto really from all this in give seizure. Messing about Theresa May Jonah still mad. Really happy. Boris Johnson the mantra thinking boss Johnson's mantra of get breaks it done is easy to say sure it's 3 words the process can be a lot longer do you think with the weight of his majority he'll be able to get done the things that he needs to do for instance 1st of all getting his that withdrawal agreement through the Commons. Well I think he's going to give a damn good try anyway the fact is he's very. Positive. A strong and that's exactly what we needed to take this country forward so I'm guessing you thought he would win Tina did you think he'd win you know Israel. Had your prayers been more than answered is this more than you could have hoped to play out I was going out with a big smile thank you yes wonderful absolutely elated I woke up I was coming down the radio on really early because I just had to. Happy Thank you Tina Matthew and hope morning to you good morning to you how you doing yes very well this morning how are you feeling about the results of the election then cry just feeling a bit well very mortified at 10 o'clock last night when they came out. You know I was praying for a hung parliament so more of a balanced viewpoint to represent the country's interest cost of a long way from a fix a long way from a hung parliament what could Boris Johnson do to make you feel less than happy this morning. I think you could have a real discussion around bricks. Bricks off the table. If you try and bring people together listen to the views I think there's a real concern that the state is being straight the last 10 years with us hospitals schools investment in the climate do you think he realizes that because in a he's he the concert is a one in places where they would have been expecting to win or not are not talking about the South where we are talking about up north just below Scotland round there are 3 areas that I think they really care they've got such a massive majority they can do what they want like it's ride roughshod 1st and implement their policies with the strong checks and balances in his victory speech in the middle of a NY in Oxbridge he said he wanted to be a One Nation conservative do you think because he's got such a thumping majority he can leave some of the more extreme bits of his party behind move a little bit more toward the center and perhaps do some of those things that you're talking about Matthew to you may break maybe but then how long ago was it 3 months ago and pretty much expelled almost 21 nation members of his government because he voted against Brecht voted against Rex it twice. Not the most . Trustworthy politician other than that of them breaks it what's your biggest concern for the next 5 years. I think the biggest concern is that it is really about the state infrastructure the time that the rich are getting richer we need to support you cation of young children to. You know our country's getting older is a lot of immigrants are brought into this country to support our services whether the n.h.s. Or their real concern about that and about whether workers' rights get thrown out the window or exit as well. Matthew stay in touch thank you for your call this morning Matthew and hope with these immediate reactions to the result overnight tonight of course I'd like to hear from you you can call me you can text me 81333 Start your message with the word radio email Danny Dot pike at b.b.c. Dot u.k. So those gains for the conservatives were made generally at Labor's expense overnight in its traditional heartlands Jeremy Corbyn said he wouldn't lead the party into another election the Lib Dems leader lost her seat and resigned the leadership of the party in Sussex and sorry it was more of a story of small adjustments or no movement at all in the political landscape rather than seismic change let's tell you what happened while most of us were asleep sorry in a moment but 1st of all our political reporter in Sussex Ben vice with the story of the night in Sussex County in Sussex we are where we were in 2015 more than 3 quarters of voters in Sussex backed one of the 2 big parties Labor in the Conservatives and almost twice as many people went for Tories than labor and that left us with an electoral map that was a city of blue with just the 3 Brighton and Hove constituencies left to Karl kept his seat Lord Russell Moore kept his seat Caroline Lucas kept her seat to you you know really reminiscent of 2015 it's almost as if nothing has changed to coin a phrase but nationally it has changed and tear all night for the Labor Party and a great night for Boris Johnson's conservatives so which one joined there with 1st let's deal with Labor and what they do next because Jeremy called and in his speeches into north saying he was pleased to be there m.p. Again also said he wouldn't be the leader at the next election whenever that might be indeed and he didn't go as far as some people would have liked him to I will not lead the party in any future general election campaign there are some in his party particularly the coolest on the left who will think that's completely fine there are others though like Peter Carl on the right of the Labor Party who are furious at that suggestion I mean I was speaking to Peter Carl shortly after he was re-elected and he made no bones about it he felt the. Jeremy Corbyn carried the can for Labour's massive defeat and that it was completely unacceptable in his view for the person responsible for this mess to be to try and stay around and fix it dippy to pin down what it was was it Jeremy Corbin's unclear position a lot on break say or was it renationalisation the railways and utilities and things like that what was it that people didn't like about what Jeremy called them was offering to Peter give an insight into what he thought well he mentioned those things but also I think he felt you know the failure to tackle anti semitism was something that Peter brought to Pim self Lloyd Russell Moyle you know continues in Brighton Kemp Town his victory speech there didn't sound like he thought Corbin is in was dead and buried the conservatives. Have. Had. Jack. Thank you Karen Lucas continues for them the 9th straight year as the Bryan villian m.p. Still the Green Party's only m.p. And elsewhere they didn't do particularly well as she was talking about that the way the voting system works works it works Ok in her favor and brought in the villian it does but it's taken a long time to get to be fair and it's often a flash in the pan either you know it's not a 9 year standing m.p. Now you know and she has found a way to make to make it work in the 1st past the post system I mean the Green Party is completely committed and has been for a long time to changing the electoral system in a vote for 16 year olds you can't do that with one m.p. Indeed we were unsure about what happened nice born with it flip flop again what was the result from response well the conservatives took it back from from the Liberal Democrats and that was always going to be difficult and 2 new Conservative M.P.'s in the area so start with Hastings Yes indeed Sally I'm hot. The new m.p. And Hastings for the last few days of the campaign she had a bit of a tricky time as it turned out that the Conservative Party is investigating allegations that she shared anti-Semitic and Islamophobia material on social media she said in interviews this evening that that's she feels those allegations are spirits and and she's confident they'll be dealt with quickly because we're hanging over her in the end didn't cause it too much of a problem the Conservatives did increase their majority compared to Amber Rhodes very hairy 2017 result the other new amp a Davis really pleased with our manifesto it's a very balanced and middle of the road manifesto despite what people say this isn't the right this is an extremist tourist Tory party it's one that cares about community and places and that's what I'm going to be doing from it's ATSIC formally of this parish actually was that makes people don't probably know know her name or what connection is oh well she she used to be a mid 6 camp counselor but before that she was a travel reporter at b.b.c. Sussex and before my time so quite a long long time ago then work for 6 separate parties has a has a connection to the area went off to be the Tory m.p. And Eastley in Hampshire had given that up at this this election because you know to spend more time with her family yes Nicholas Soames stood down the seats near her family and it's a 6 popped up and there she is and it's a very safe seat she won it as we expected and there's a new m.p. For our and all and South Downs replacing nick her but Andrew Griffith polled 35566 votes that's around a 22 and a half 1000 majority I'm humbled by by having been returned with such a large majority for our intell and South Downs but it doesn't mean there's there isn't a lot of work to do and that's what I aim to do the conservatives then so a big majority for them so Boris Johnson can do what he likes what you think he likes to do what we know that he likes Bracks it doesn't yes want to get it done and in the short term that means that we will be leaving. They certainly by the end of January. A couple of the new M.P.'s discussing you know discussing rumors that he may well be recalling parliament quickly in trying to get the Bracks it bills passed you know as early as next week so really kind of rushing the process through now he's got that massive majority of course there's that huge manifesto that the Conservatives promised you a lot of promises you know those those 20000 extra police officers those 50000 nurses a lot has been promised in that manifesto they've been big question marks over their ability to deliver it well now they've got a majority parliament isn't going to be obstacle Let's see what I can offer can he shut out your Jacob Reese Mark now he doesn't need the argy anymore Dizzee he doesn't know he can pretty much and indeed every single conservative candidate has signed a pledge saying that they will back Boris Johnson's deal in parliament so that bit of Bracks is going to sail through the next it's very difficult the next bit he's negotiating our future relationship with the European Union Boris Johnson has promised that will be done by the end of next year that would be record time for a big free you know a big wide ranging trade deal there's a lot of skepticism he can pull it off but he says he can that's Ben vice our Sussex political reporter back at 7 tonight by the way with further reaction to the local and national stories from election 2019 on politics until tonight at 7 Of course I want your reaction has it gone how you want it how are you feeling about the future today you can text me 1333 Start your message with a word radio love to talk to you to give me a call here's my number cool b.b.c. Sorry 080587104 see c.b.c. Series. Let's talk to our political correspondent in London now Alison McCarthy is in Downing Street so what's been happening there Alessio this morning. Well so far it's been reasonably quiet we think that Boris Johnson is back behind the big black door which I have to say from where I'm standing is obscured by the looks of the stimulus Christmas tree but we think he's retreated to number 10 for a cup of tea and a bit relaxed and of course now he's due to go off in some point in the next hour or 2 to see the queen and officially give her the result and ask her to allow him to form a government so that's what we're expecting to happen but at the moment there are a lot of press reporters and a lot of police officers and no sign of the prime minister. Yet he said at the end of his speech or a couple of hours ago that he was getting bricks and breakfast done 1st of all is this a political earthquake we're seeing here today. I think in short yes it absolutely is I mean if just look at some of these figures that we've had you know Boris Johnson now has 364 plus seats compare that to 298 before the election the Labor Party we want is gone from 243 seats to 203 and just put that in a bit of contacts way back in 1983 which is widely seen as one of Labor's worse results in modern times Labor actually had $209.00 seats that they've done even worse than that so it is massive and just look at some of the seats that Labor Party's lost they've lost both Dennis Skinner the man who's been in the common since 1970 the beast the pulse over he's gone they've lost to the 3 seats that they had in Stoke on Trent Lott and Wakefield That was Don Valley that will live Ali and they even last year which used to be Tony Blair's old seat so Labor is now lost 4 elections on the trot and Gerry called his Lots to so it really is the end of the call been era and they're obviously looking now for a new leader and of course while we're talking new leaders the Lib Dems are also in something of the turmoil this morning they didn't do nearly as well as they were hoping and of course their leader Joseph lost her seat in our area in Sussex sorry north east Hampshire it was small reports or no change at all so those big changes in the north you know places that I've never had a conservative m.p. Before and they. Wake up today to find themselves that they do what what is it about the conservatives message that has cut through there. Yet well I think there's obviously going to be an awful lot of analysis and an awful lot of post-mortems going on from both parties to see what happened what worked and what didn't and of course at this stage we can only theorize but it would seem to be that the Tories had a very clear message it was very simply get Brecht down we all had it until we were absolutely blue in the face but it does seem to have an impact now there are reports that the contrast in that the labor areas will when Labor were out campaigning Gerry cool been didn't play well on the doorstep personally and also perhaps there was some confusion over Labor's message there Brecht's it policy was a bit more nuanced it was a bit more complicated and then of course there were all the things that Labor was offering to do massive massive spending commitments on everything from you know railways to waspy women and so perhaps there was a bit of confusion among the voters as to what it was that was actually being promised to them and equally there's been some suggestions for the Lib Dems this idea that you know where they took home a majority government which was unlikely they'd revoke Breck's it altogether perhaps that was seen as being a bit extreme Alysia thank you very much indeed for joining us today from Downing Street and more to come in the course of a listen McCarthy reporting there she mentioned waspy women there was that big promise from John McDonnell wasn't the shadow chancellor election campaign and the waspy women women who think they've missed out on pensions that are owed to them because their retirement ages move further and further away we've spoken to them a lot on this program if you're a waspy woman the Smalling How do you feel maybe your hopes were resting on Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonald putting things right for you get in touch as 11333 Start your message with the word radio as a campaign that Tim Lawton the east we're going to be was heavily involved with do you think he can have an influence on Boris Johnson to again do right by you what do you think. 1333 on the tech start your message with the word radio let's talk about the story in Syria ne Hampshire Jack Fein our political reporter in sorry in some way very similar to other elections Jack but we got 3 new M.P.'s in sorry including in Guilford tell us what's happened that's right Johny Yes as you as you suggest broadly speaking it's as you were all 11 constituencies in sorry returning conservatives and the seats in in Hampshire that we follow as well. But I was at the Spectrum leisure center in Guildford last night for the Count's to see Angela Richardson elected as the new conservative then pay for the constituency she replaces the former m.p. Milton who stood as an independent this time around you remember that defied Boris Johnson when she wouldn't countenance a no deal breaks if she voted against the odds. And as a result she was one of $21.00 M.P.'s who lost the conservative whip she didn't get it returned to her and she decided to stand as an independent and in the end it just didn't work out Fran and she was her vote was was way down but I spoke to Richard sim to find out how she was feeling off she became the new m.p. It's absolutely overwhelming because this was going to be very close this is the selection here and go for it I don't think anybody knew walking in this evening how this count was going to go I think throughout the whole campaign the polls have had a very very tight here and even as we've been out campaigning and talking to people and knocking on doors we had no idea whether we were going to be successful tonight absolutely delighted I'm relieved because I've been nervous all day some of the challenges in Guilford the housing issue for example controversial Where do you stand on the Ok well I had a bit of pushback because I was supporting the previous Conservative led ministration on the local plan the thing is Gilford has got to have counseling it's got have housing for its key workers has also got to have housing to keep families together and that was really important to me that sense of community and that's one of the reasons that people voted leave in the referendum is because they didn't feel that sense of community anymore house prices a very expensive and go for it so I don't want people's children and grandchildren feeling like they've got to move out also don't want to go for it moving up to 34 floors like working has with their high rise development I don't think that's the right thing for Guilford and so the local plan means that housing goes out which but most importantly you've got to have
