Yes so obvious. That yeah you're so lucky few months almost to be fat to action. For time with. With a wife someday and she actually did couldn't have children of her and she also adopted a mixed like child he's sort of my sister doesn't you know if i was obvious that my foster mum has to die so obviously I'm an adult and I need a feast day and I can sit there must foster to Day I'm a really neat yeah I had a real. The really good experience I had a fantastic life was always told that you know she wasn't numbers that. I had a very very balanced life to be fair had lots not holiday. You know we were well sad happy to have really good social. Really good stuff like a really good social balance a lot of love we had religion in our lives we had absolutely everything that you didn't want for anything and there and because I'm sure there'll be some of some of this listening to this thinking yes I'm going to this is going it sounds a little bit too idyllic you know you know and a bit of a fairy tale that was in the in the you know come of late sixty's early seventy's yeah there is the why it's not really with a black heart and. We can say that you are a black woman is not. You know mixed heritage you would look at you can say yes on black because of carrying the scent did you not come across anything that made it all could for you and that you used to say your mom shield you from something your foster mom shield you from anything that you know not in a negative way we should go on holiday. And she'll read to custard Brasa and we were basically it's almost like she claimed we used to have a lot of their sovereignty coming up to us and say you know we're the country. Safe in Spain and it's just this is our let's talk a lot about being not talk a lot about being a chocolate by peace and we were treated we had extra strewed we had paper what part you know and just fantastic but this is the only thing that elicit would go you see whether they are taking the mickey laugh with you know. We had a fantastic life never well the way our foster parent was you know we we should embrace who we are at. And it helped socially we helped you know we had lots of friends we had lost social interaction negative net. Negative And I think of being able to say you. And Bryce that bring that out and kind of the adult that you model to that she should be open minded and embrace all the so she's aligned during then to determine day when you then moved away from being with your foster family yes did you did it change you in terms of you know in that year of kind of being descent and therefore you know because you know the question's going to come up when we have an apparent on this discussion what about the food in your hair and how did you did you were you comfortable with all of that when you came the well but I mean when predominantly more media was that tell you when you yeah I know what it was is mind like that but my life father has passed divine and he always kept in touch because he used to take me from us off to Paris every weekend to every of the weekend and we usta you know so I would be nice house in his boiling hot house with the cows and he today when it's. Full of soup and he would comb my hair and he would clap my hand and he would take me some aunties has full of you know the glass leash and there were no yes. Yes so I all I asked think I think my dad knew that I needed and I needed that coaches think I was quite looking that I had a very pleasant life and he would take Mr Jamaica's well so I went to Jamaica quite a few occasions with him and I was when I was I think I think to be honest with a lot of English Caribbean you know black children who. When you said are actually saying that when I went to judge my cat I didn't understand the language or didn't have. People it's quite fast and I think that I was so well. As it got it so soon kind of like adapted well but it's like to speak proper English and you know in the year that it was it was never. It wasn't a while. Maybe I would. Country I was and if you're destructed via anything on t.v. Don't Maury Yeah I can catch up on I play in the sense to me again when. You have the time we're talking about Should white families adopt black children got caught a couple of comments of coming here and one from Denise in came over who says. We all have one heart one brain a couple of kidneys and lungs and the liver just peel off the skin and we're all the same inside Unfortunately it's all down to conditioning and what we are both up to believe as well as in This is concerned if you think you can bring the charter fishing in the love doesn't matter because we're all the same on the inside Claire Hay says on Facebook Yes of course white families can adopt black children mine and fostered strike adopted to black children back in the sixty's early seventy's there was a huge stigma back then especially where they lived but they had a loving home and a family and the scaped or full circumstances very interesting conversation it's in light of the story of Carrie this is a Channel 4 drama that just finished a thing last this week and it told the story of a young black girl who was in the care of a want woman immersion in moving drama it prompted questions though about whether what family should adopt or foster black and ethnic minority children what with her from delicious who believes that they should and her experience was a very positive one as far as she is concerned over the next 2 studio guest may have differing views Alison Delaney agrees very much with Lizzie that she too was adopted by a want family and she's now successful businesswoman and I credits that success to to the parents who she was adopted by However Peter an adoptive parent to 3 children doesn't think it's that simple so I'm pleased that I've got them both with me here in this huge are welcome both thank you thank you thank you for being with me this evening I mean if it does throw up a lot of just same one with their parents to come on their. Stories some people may be saying Well that sounds better than any. Saying race family bring up bring in any way in the way that she experience her life but I was in let me let me turn to you and ask you how old you were that when you were adopted and listening to delicious story does that reminisce for you as well yeah absolutely I was fostered it for you weeks and adopted it for humans so very similar circumstances to do and I completely agree with her comments what I also agree with is that color doesn't. Take 1st president when we're thinking about our children 1st and foremost regardless of the color of our skin I'm sure what we would want is that they are safe that they cared for and that they're loved if we're now suggesting that actually dependent on the color of your skin dictates whether or not you can deliver that and nurture that that would be a can you know I mean do you know the circumstances are you became adopted and did you choose to get in touch with your birth family as such yes so I was dealt to due to my birth mother not being able to take care of me she wasn't film a great background I did search for my family when I was old enough and had always been supported by my adoptive parents to be able to do say and upon finding that unfortunately my birth mother had passed away by the time that I did locate her but had found out that her 2nd starts to be very poor she being a prostitute for the majority of her life and had actually passed away from David. I also found my natural birth sister who had taken steps in the family trade as you would expect really and was also working class to cheat now I'm not here to judge anybody and I don't I believe that you know your circumstances can very much dictate your outcome and therefore I feel blessed to have been able to find them but also blessed that I had the opportunities that were different for fascinating to hear that let me ask you then Peter that you know you currently have adopted 3 children. Are you originally fostered So firstly tell us a little bit about that because I know. There's very much a need and going on going grew older more colleague on billions of dollars also talking about it in terms of the Asian community so totally how it came about that you with your wife thought about fostering and then now actually adopt him. So this is a very interesting story as it were so my mom's always fostered stuff from when we were very little she was a foster care I she'd probably fostered over 500 young people in a time. And it was just something that when me and my wife was living with my mom at the time we were saving up for a waiting my mom fostered quite a few children were there when we were like wow not we really should do something not be so we fostered very young. We started fostering at $25.00. And we fostered many children and then these 3 children came along. 3 amazing adorable children and we fostered them initially for 6 months. And we felt something wasn't right when the social worker was not right these kids are ready to go home that I wasn't ready mom wasn't ready. And it was we knew something wasn't right so we don't know the lack of use and stuff we put over for far kind of argument why they shouldn't go home but we were overruled and the the children home. 3 months saying. We found out something's not right something was just not right in our heart and so we can call in the social workers the children so shocked to the point where the social worker called our social worker and was like you need to tell them to stop calling because they haven't seen us. And. Long story short the children went back into care. They didn't come straight back to us they went to my copper who were fantastic However the white copper that looked after them. Probably only for a month did not know how to care for them whatsoever. Our distorted ass she had have extensions in she was not sure how to take it so she just cut her hair off literally caught all of our hair off. So there was a peak hoo ha about leaks and social workers every everyone get involved. And then when me and my wife in the code of all the backing care but they split up the kids are. The youngest with me somebody's house and the other 2 was with somebody else who was like No no well take them back so when we saw their hair we were stuck Oh my god like what has happened to your hair and she was dark she just cut you off so . That would of course leave a genuine of class of concern over the fact that ys English families are on hearing . Had no clue how to coach look after the children of latterly having and the corporate who looked after that the girls were fabulous you know we met the couple they were lovely lovely couple but they just wasn't culturally aware of how to care a man time black hair black skin. They just wasn't culturally sensitive to any now and then though this may sound like a silly question but there have been over the is my main job was teaching in coming across the African Caribbean children when I was at school. African Caribbean children even if they're both of within the same race they still used to come to school not looking like they understood what to do the hair this remember and you know black we do like to make sure the skin was creamed and cocoa butter and Vaseline if the hard times were hard so we had to use that they weren't using any of that and so. They considered they were black children in particular the time the majority of young people I was around were Jamaican descent it was not well you should not really know that but they were right so what what what why would you say white family. That's going to have comments I don't know as well as families who do not but I think it's slightly different when the local authorities are placing a child in the care of somebody else who are not culturally sensitive to those needs the local authority have a responsibility. If parents are not doing that for their children that it's on the parents I might want to use they're using their parental responsibility and I might want to use something house on that child so. I mean I was listening to what Peta saying that. I mean how what would you say because this to you for them here your local authority but. The family we're not I So you know they do what they're supposed to do and I absolutely and what I'd say that 1st of all I applaud you and your story and it's amazing and good feelings Leslie ducting it's such an early age as well and secondly what I would say is that you know we are born with an understanding of coach a coach was taught and that isn't dictated by the color somebody's skin say you know it's it is ab
