rest of the squad came back negative and they have started restricted training ahead of next weeks‘ test series in galle. no chris woakes though. he was negative but because he came into close contact with moeen, they shared a carjourney in the uk on the way to the airport, he's self—isolating for now as a precaution. let's just stay with cricket because another series has just finished in christchurch. new zealand beating pakistan by an innings and 176 runs for a 2—nil series win. that's also taken them to the top of the test rankings for the first time. plenty for pakistan to work on, england, but this time the tests will take place in pakistan for the first time in 16 years. the country is now viewed as significantly safe from terrorism for sports to return and people are being coaxed back. it is pretty huge foran being coaxed back. it is pretty huge for an international test cricket being played in pakistan since 2009, so, there was a long wait and what they knew was that it was going to bea they knew was that it was going to be a very honest opinion for me and i certainly would not want to put anyone at risk if it didn't feel that it was as safe is anywhere at the moment to play cricket. is for the moment to play cricket. is for the moments on how to pakistan for more than a decade. the gunman just targeted the team bus and six police officers into civilians were killed in the attack in 2009. plank cricket in the attack in 2009. plank cricket in the country was seen as too risky in pakistan at the play home and the united arab emirates cut off from their team. bringing international cricket back is involved as the military fatigues as much as those in placers and whites. terror has largely been driven out of the major cities in such as playing against england on pakistan turf is a national victory. it was a benchmark or healthcheck for us as a nation in terms of getting countries back here and getting teams for longer periods of time, making them feel comfortable and safe year, the more we play can strong opposition more te st we play can strong opposition more test matches and the better we become. most your career in english cricket, it was rarity in the uk, a sports administrator from a b ame bracket background. there will be the first to acknowledge that there is still a huge amount of work to be done and culturally, from a religious point of view, there will be different needs and there will be important that again, such as cricket embraces that again, such as cricket embraces that as soon as possible in this quickly as possible the people are not willing to get on board they have to be moved aside. the legendary former captain i5 have to be moved aside. the legendary former captain is not the prime minister and so right now getting england to play there is a triumph become 0ctober, only pakistan victory will do. patrick bbc news. there was a loss of sound and we apologise for that, that was u5, and we apologise for that, that was us, not you. don't forget to keep us on top of the form and the bbc sports website but for me and the rest of the team, goodbye. very good evening. you're watching bbc news and here it is time to talk about coronavirus but specifically in relation to lockdown and the lockdown that is formally coming across england and know that lockdown that is formally coming across england and mp5 have been recalled to parliament for a retrospective vote on england's new coronavirus lockdown, which became law this morning. the latest official figures point to a continued acceleration in deaths —— which in the past day exceeded one—thousand for the first time since april. let's cross to our political correspondent, helen catt, who's at westminster. the first thing is that these will be approved both the government and the opposition agreed that these new restrictions are necessary due to the spread of the virus and there's no real chance that it is going to pass when this vote happens. but i think there is also a sense certainly from the government side that they want to reassure people that they want to reassure people that there is as the health secretary put it, a certain way out and because they have not begun in the programme of vaccination and that this is not an endless lockdown, and that it is just an means to an end. if you think that is change the field for those who perhaps were not supportive of previous lockdowns and that this is a work worsening situation, it does not mean that mp5 are not giving them an entirely free pass. as you've heard before about the impact on the economy and people's emotional well—being of this sort of very big restriction on their liberty. but, you're certainly curing those again and certainly more questions about how that vaccine roll—out is going in the restrictions are lifted as soon as it is possible to do so and when that might be. so, there certainly some real concern but it is unlikely, very unlikely that this will not pass. longer term, you hinting to what the tone of political debate might be months to come about the anxiety about how often we are checking in on this, really keeping an eye on perhaps, and a mother to this time, will there be calls for up parts of the country to have thing slightly east? yes, we're going to start to see that really come into effect in mid—february, the mitra viewpoint where they're looking at this every couple weeks but that idea of getting schools back up after the half term, that is when there will be real pressure on the government around what point it starts to move areas down through the tears again which is what they said they will do after the end of the national lockdown to move areas of england back down to tear systems. there is some concern among mp5 that these restrictions, the legislation lasts until march and they said that is to allow this sort of phased relief comments are going to be a big bang as borisjohnson comments are going to be a big bang as boris johnson put comments are going to be a big bang as borisjohnson put it, it's going to bea as borisjohnson put it, it's going to be a gradual unwrapping and once they started a vaccination programme of the under way mf and and —— under way and as far as he can see, when you have all those people in the most at risk groups vaccinated, we will start to see perhaps a little bit more dissent. were you expecting a vote around seven or sleeping slipping, what is your assessment? it would be expected to run until seven and we'll see if we get a vote or not because of the way procedure works, it is possible that the can get knotted through but if there is an actual vote or not. we will see. heavy snowfall is continuing to cause travel chaos injapan. hundreds of vehicles remain stuck on a main road in niigata prefecture. 0ne driver said he was trapped for forty hours. another said he had eaten snow after running out of food and water. now it's time for a look at the weather with sarah keith lucas. hello. the first week of 2021 certainly has been a cold and wintry one with temperatures well below average in some of us have seen some sleet and some snow around too. a bit of sunshine picture ta ken on wednesday afternoon in county durham. for the coming few days, no great change in the general theme to the weather. interesting cold with further ice and snow for some of us and also some freezing fog to contend with and things will eventually start to turn a little bit milder and the weekend but before we get start to turn a little bit milder in the weekend but before we get there, we are still in this cold air. during wednesday, during wednesday, it was piling in from the north and direction, provide a weak weather frontjust pushing its way into the northwest and through thursday morning, it'll bring some snow to parts of scotland into the far north of england and several centimetres of snow across northern ireland by the time to thursday morning. some freezing fog also likely to cross the parts of england and also into northwest england in the midlands into wales, but we will see that freezing fog lingering, temperatures are going to struggle to get above freezing. there will be some clear skies working from the north with further wintry showers but certainly another cold day ahead during thursday and thursday night, heading into friday, another cold night. so, a sharp frost around and do expect some slippery surfaces with some fresh snow lying place and some icy conditions as well. heading into friday, we still got this weather front out this week for the front making its way southwards across england and wales so they could be for the snow almost anywhere to fairly low levels. we not expecting it to be too heavy but could be a bit significant for parts of the midlands and into wales and some fresh snowfall likely at times, fresh snow showers across parts of scotland and another cold day we'll all see in snow on friday and will be some sunshine as well. moving through the weekend, a subtle change as we start to see milder air here, at least in the northwest, so claudia northern ireland and scotland some sunshine showers wintry over the high ground. england and wales on saturday sting largely dry and still cold so as to bring the chilly air mass and perhaps some icy stretches, three to 5 degrees for most of us. moving into the second half of the weekend, high pressure trying to build in from the west, slightly milder appearance. so, a bit of a change in one direction and is start to see more of an western northwesterly direction the sunday bringing in a fair amount of cloud, perhaps the best of the sunshine towards eastern areas but it will bring some frost and fog patches to linger in for quite a good part of the day. temperatures up a little bit compared to recent days, somewhere between four to 7 degrees with wet weather across the north of scotland all thanks to this front here. moving on into monday, we're going to see the influence of that front in the far north of the scotland, but elsewhere, largely dry. i think we are still in the relatively cool air. but things are starting to gradually change and it will take a few days but those winters are starting to come more of a westerly direction on monday. so, a little bit of dry weather with one or two showers showers for scotland, wintry of the high ground, but for most of us in sunny spells developing after a cold start in the afternoon around up to six or 7 degrees, through the course of next week, we are likely to see an area of low pressure bringing some wet weather over the first part of the week between monday 90 to and then, a ridge of high—pressure tries to build and towards the south so that should keep most of the unsettled weather and windy weather for the north of some dry conditions in the south, but which will notice to the course of next week, it will not be as cold and it will be turning milder. some unsettled breezy conditions in the north and dryest in the south. 00:13:44,270 --> 4294966103:13:29,430 goodbye.
