Draw with champions liverpool in the premier league. Good morning. It is a foggy but milder start to the day. A lot of cloud and a few showers from the west. Some sunshine in the forecast. I will tell you where in ten minutes. Good morning. Its monday, the 9th of november. Our top story. The us president elect, joe biden, has begun planning for his presidency, and has said coronavirus will be his key priority when he officially takes over injanuary. Mr biden is expected to name a team of experts today, who will draw up plans to tackle the virus in america. Meanwhile, donald trump is still refusing to accept the result of last weeks election. Ben wright reports. Oh, no, noti i will survive. If donald trump remains in any doubt about the election result, he only needs to look out of the window. Joe biden supporters continued to Party Outside the white house on sunday, while the president slipped away for another round of golf. Mr trump has not conceded and instead continues to claim, without providing any evidence, that there was widespread election fraud. While some Senior Republicans have backed Donald Trumps stand, on sunday, the former president , George W Bush, issued a statement of congratulations. Well, ijust had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with president elect trump. After winning four years ago, donald trump met the outgoing president , barack obama, at the white house within a week of election day, the cordial beginning of a transfer of power that continues through to the inauguration. At least thats how its meant to work. So far, President Trump has refused to acknowledge thatjoe biden has won. The president elect does not need Donald Trumps concession or congratulations to plan for power. Joe biden and the Vice President elect, Kamala Harris, are busy building a transition team, choosing key appointments, and yesterday launched a website outlining the immediate priorities for his administration, from trying to repair the economy to tackling the pandemic. Our work begins with getting covid under control. We cannot repair our economy, restore our vitality or relish lifes most precious moments, hugging our grandchildren, our children, our birthdays, weddings, graduations, all the moments that matter most to us, until we get it under control. Covid is americas most pressing crisis. Deaths are rising in 27 states, and the virus is surging across the country. Today, mr biden will announce the make up of a new Covid Task Force that will work on containing the pandemic. But mr biden will not be able to take action until he becomes president. Despite Donald Trumps refusal to accept the result, joe biden will be sworn into office in front of the Capitol Building on january the 20th next year. His supporters have high hopes, but the challenges are huge. And while mr biden has talked about working with republicans in congress, the political divisions are deep. Ben wright, bbc news, washington. And benjoins us now. Ben, what more do we know of the plans mr biden is due to set out later . Well, hes going to announce who will be sitting on his Advisory Board ina will be sitting on his Advisory Board in a few hours. Tackling the covid pandemic was central to his campaign and he clearly thinks there needs to be more work directed from the centre, from the white house, in terms of enforcing mask wearing mandates, working with governors to ensure more americans are applying the basic rules of social distancing and protecting each otherfrom the basic rules of social distancing and protecting each other from the virus. There is need for a federal aid package he will be planning for and hoping to shake congress into action on. And he will be talking to experts on how to start rolling out vaccines when they become available, he hopes within the new year. He can do this planning now, but its President Trump remains in charge untiljanuary President Trump remains in charge until january the 20th. President trump remains in charge untiljanuary the 20th. And the president has not spoken publicly since this election was called for jill biden. Joe since this election was called for jill biden. Joe biden. We know he is clinging to the idea that lawsuits and potential recounts good in some way change the outcome. But almost nobody, including Senior Republicans, feel that that is at all plausible. So we waited to hear from President Trump and whether he may, over the course of the next days, accept the inevitable and begrudgingly offered joe biden as congratulations. Few at the moment are holding their breath for that. Thank you very indeed, ben. Well be finding out more about what this means for the future relationship between the uk and us with former Prime Minister gordon brown at 8. 30. So, what doesjoe bidens presidency mean for the us uk relationship . Joining us now with more on this is our Political Correspondent, jonathan blake. Jonathan, good morning. There are lots of areas to discuss on this one, arent there . Morning, dan. Yes there are. Joe biden may have broken up there are. Joe biden may have broken up the political bromance between borisjohnson up the political bromance between Boris Johnson and donald up the political bromance between borisjohnson and donald trump, but that does not mean a big shift in uk and us relations overnight. The relationship has been strong for centuries. But how strong can depend on the political and the personal relationship between the leaders of each two countries. So borisjohnson and joe biden, what is the starting point . Well, they have never met. Last year, joe biden described Boris Johnson as a physical and emotional clone of donald trump. Then there is brexit. Joe biden thinks it is a bad idea and taking the uk out of the eu was the linchpin of borisjohnsons premiership. Despite that, the Prime Minister said yesterday there was nothing to worry about. There is far more that unites the government of this country and government in washington at any stage, than divides us. We have common values, we have common interests, we have a common global perspective. There is a huge amount of work we need to do together to protect those values a belief in democracy, in free speech around the world, in human rights, in free trade, in the rules based international order. All these things are currently under threat and you have the United States and britain standing together, as they have done many times in the past, to protect those values. There are undoubtedly opportunities as well as challenges, shared Common Ground between the uk and the us in tackling Climate Change. That was something donald trump really didnt have much time for. Then there is iran, keeping that countrys Nuclear Ambitions in check and taking a hard line against russia as well. Lets wait and see what the relationship between the uk and of the us has to offer in future. But with donald trump leaving the white house it may well be a little bit more predictable than it has been. Jonathan, thank you. The 17 day firebreak lockdown ends in wales today. Pubs, bars and non essential shops are some of the businesses that can reopen. The countrys health minister, labours vaughan gething, says it will be another fortnight before the full impact of the restrictions is known. Tomos morgan reports. This time last year, 15 year old Osain Roberts was making a name for himself playing for the cardiff blues rugby academy. But during the firebreak, hes had to train on his own. From today, though, hell be able to practice with friends again at his local club in a group of up to 30. Being able to play rugby again, going back to sort of normality, its not going to be normal, but its going to be more normal than it used to be. As well as Outdoor Sports training, gyms and Indoor Leisure facilities will be reopening, along with those non essential shops that were closed during the firebreak. Two households will also be able to mix and form one extended household or bubble. In an effort to help those living alone and youngsters, the Welsh Government have said that for people from different households will be able to meet for a walk or in a cafe, bar or restaurant. But those different four will have to socially distance in a hospitality venue, where id checks will also be required. Staffs your biggest cost. Now weve got extra people to make sure that these id checks are done, that the track and trace is still being done, that the cleaning is still getting done. Were going to end up having more staff than customers, i think. Measures may be eased further as we approach christmas, but it will depend on whether the firebreak has done itsjob. And we wont know that for at least another two weeks. Tomas morgan, bbc news, cardiff. The number of confirmed covid infections worldwide now stands at more than 50 million. Europe, which has been seeing a resurgence in cases, is once more the epicentre of the pandemic, although the list of affected countries is topped by the United States, india and brazil. More than 1. 25 Million People have now died from the virus worldwide. Police in manchester have strongly condemned a 600 strong protest against National Lockdown measures, describing the gathering as irresponsible. Four people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences, and 2a demonstrators were issued with £200 fines. Police also said one group of protesters travelled by coach from cumbria to attend the gathering. Some officers were injured at the demonstration. Sixty per cent of people with disabilities who use social care have had difficulty getting hold of essential items during the pandemic. That includes medication, ppe and vital breathing equipment. Thats according to research obtained for the bbc by Polling Group yougov. The government has defended its record on support, saying it has fully considered the needs of disabled people throughout the pandemic. Virgin hyperloop a futuristic transport system has trialled its first everjourney with passengers in the nevada desert. It involves travelling in a pod through a tube at high speed. In the trial two Company Staff travelled the 500 metre track in 15 seconds, reaching 107 miles per hour. Virgins ambition is to reach speeds of more than 1,000 kilometres per hour, which would mean going from gatwick to Heathrow Airport in four minutes. Amazing, isnt it . If that were to happen. Now the weather with carol. That looks mysterious. Good morning. Good morning. It does indeed. It is a foggy start for some of us this morning. A lot of mist and fog across the uk but the densest fog is across the uk but the densest fog is across parts of england and wales. If youre travelling, do bear that in mind. That fog, some of it will lift into low cloud, mostly on the hills. It will be a mild start. We have got some rain courtesy of this weather front in the east. That will clear. We have got some weather fronts coming in from the south west. They will produce showery outbreaks of rain as we go through the day. Drifting further east. Today, a lot of cloud. The fog slow to lift. The brighter skies will be in the north east of scotland, where we should see some sunshine. The odd sunny spot elsewhere. The emphasis is going to be on elsewhere. The emphasis is going to beona elsewhere. The emphasis is going to be on a lot of cloud with showery rain coming in from the south west. Another mile today. Yesterday parts of wales hid just over 17 degrees. Today we are looking at 16 as the top temperature. Milder in scotland thanit top temperature. Milder in scotland than it was yesterday. This evening and overnight we still have these bursts of showery rain. Clear skies in northern scotland. Here we could see temperatures dip quite low. Even here too we could see some more patches. More weather in half an hour. Thank you. Lets take a look at todays papers. Lots of the front pages still focus on the us president ial election today. Pressure grows on trump to go quietly, is the daily telegraphs headline. It reports former republican president George W Bush congratulated joe biden on his win, and said the election was fundamentally fair. Theres also a photograph of the queen at the cenotaph on remembrance sunday. The guardian predicts a turbulent transition forjoe biden to the white house, but says the president elect is determined to hit the ground running. The newspaper says his priority is a 12 Member Task Force to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The metro reports that current us President Donald Trump is fuming and refusing to accept defeat following the election result. Trump the grump, reads its headline. Similarly, the New York Times says as mr biden prepares to enter office, President Trump refuses to concede. What have you got there . Ive got happy times. How to be happy. Have an allotment. Youve been gardening quite a lot. I have been doing a lot of planting in the hope that in the spring it will look lovely. This is a project by academics at the university of sheffield, who examined the diary entries of allotment holders to determine whether they benefit from attending fruit and veg patches. There was quite a wide spectrum of Mental Health benefits as people describe community events, the nice feeling of sharing food, knowledge and skills while connecting with nature. Did you see the full list of im a celebrity co ntesta nts . Did you see the full list of im a celebrity contestants . Vernon kay, bev callard, sir mo farah, jessica plummer, shane richie, Victoria Derbyshire aj pritchard, jordan north, Giovanna Fletcher and hollie arnold. And apparently theyve got a chelsea grimes, a footballer turned musician, on standby. If anybody goes under, she comes in. And they are still going to eat rice and beans. Yes. In the same way that strictly macro has been light relief, i reckon this will be a good lift as well. President Electjoe Biden has said he wants to unite the us after a hard fought and divisive election campaign. 7a million americans voted for him more than 70 million for donald trump. But will he be able to do as he pledges and bring the country together . Clive myrie has been finding out. America has always been an unruly place. When the sun rises, it warms a land of competing ideas, of states and minds determined to show their independence. But this fractured existence was held together by a Common Thread that all are equal, that all can dream. But recent years highlight the fraying of the thread. In the years up to the era of donald trump, americans ate the same brunch, but too often talked past each other. Left and right on parallel roads. Canjoe biden wipe away the stain of divisiveness . Eileen weissberg is a retired former hospital worker, and she voted for the democrats here in philadelphia. Her recollection of recent American History is wistful. They forget that when bill clinton was in office, everyone made money and people seemed to be united. Now its all these people coming out, these groups that are for trump and causing problems. Its just. Its a sad thing. I dont remember it being like this. Tony picks up the bill. He wouldnt tell us his surname. The sting of defeat as one of the 70 million who voted for donald trump, leaves him in little mood to hear the arguments of the winning side. He got the economy going. More people are working today than ever before. Forget about the covid 19, before that. He might go down as one of the best president s for the working people. Historys judgement on this age is to come, and it wont be kind on the handling of the coronavirus. There will also be a truly damning verdict of america if this new opportunity many believe will come with the election, isnt seized to bridge the partisan divide, if this generation fails to truly reflect on the legacy it wants to leave. Laurie martarano voted forjoe biden and expresses the hopes of millions. In a lot of ways he wasnt like, my first choice, ill be honest. But i think to unite people, hes excellent for that. I think that he will do really well. We have to come together. We have to. As the light fades on americas election campaign, wherejoe biden says he wants to lead, will america follow . Clive myrie, bbc news in philadelphia. To get more on mood of the nation and what happens next, we can speak to christina wilkie, the cnbcs White House Correspondent. Thank you for being with us on bbc brea kfast. Thank you for being with us on bbc breakfast. Lets look at it first from a Democrat Point of view. What do you think the chances are of president elect biden being able to get through some of his grand plans when he becomes president next year . Well, given that the chances are that the senate will remain in republican hands, some of the grander plans, especially the big spending packages, will probably be on hold. But i would love to pick up on hold. But i would love to pick up on what laurie said in the previous section. She said thatjoe biden hadnt been her first choice, but she hopes he will unite the country and there is a phrase emerging right now in washington, in political circles, and it is a mandate for moderation. And the very fact that the democrats did not win control of the democrats did not win control of the senate, that they lost some seats in the house, is being read in some circles as evidence that americans want the moderate kind of a democrat thatjoe biden is. There are, however, people like laurie, ostensibly people for whom he was not necessarily progressive enough, so the progressives now are wondering what position they will have within this Biden Administration and where his priorities will be. Ok, and that will be found out in the coming weeks and months ahead. Donald trump seems to be clinging on to power. He has been playing golf for a couple of days. I wonder what the feeling is, more broadly, that you are picking up about whether it is time now for him to concede . Will he do that and how at the Republican Party more generally feeling about that . More generally, i will start with the Republican Party, very quiet. Republican lawmakers are very nervous with good reason about alienating trump micro supporters, who form the partys base right now. Trump has not had any Public Events for the last two days, he does not have any tomorrow. Tomorrow is monday but you would expect him to be doing something. He has no Public Events. His chief of staff in the white house, mark meadows, is in quarantine after being diagnosed with covid 19. So there is a sense that the governing part of the white house is a little bit on hold and trump is huddling with his core group of people from 2016 even, jared kushner, his daughter ivanka trump, these core people he trusts. That is where he is pulling them and getting opinion over and over. That is who he is counting on to determine his next steps. We have seen George W Bush congratulatejoe biden, essentially saying he accepts the result. Is that a significant sort of comment . How will that go down in america . It will be well received by people who agree with George W Bush, but there is no love lost between trump and the bush family personally. And trump is not the sort of politician who is going to ta ke the sort of politician who is going to take his cue from anybody from what anybody did in the past. He doesnt trust the republican establishment, of which George W Bushis establishment, of which George W Bush is a pillar. He never has. So i think that a Statement Like that, while it received a lot of attention in the United States, dropped without a whisper in the white house. Thank you very much for speaking to us. Something we will be looking out throughout the programme this morning. Christina wilkie, White House Correspondent for cnbc, speaking to us from washington. Many events have had to be cancelled or scaled back this year, and remembrance sunday was no different. But, despite the lack of crowds and Large Services, the nation still came together to pay their respects to the armed forces. 0ur reporter fi lamdin has been looking at the different ways the country fell silent. Big ben chimes. We lost 31 of the crew in the sinking. I shall remember those guys, as i do every Remembrance Day. Well never forget them. 95 year old stan ford was aboard the allied ship hms fratton on d day. The nearest you are to an explosion, you dont really hear it. But i had a feeling, a feeling of weightlessness and then the plonk in the water. Rescue boats came up on the scene and, luckily, i was pulled aboard. The hand of god was on me on that day. But stans spine was fractured in the explosion. He has needed calipers to help him walk ever since. I think we should be remembering people who served us because they risked their lives for us. Nine year old maisie may be 86 years younger than stan, but, like him, she wants everyone to remember. It looks amazing, because we have all the windmills and crosses and the lamp post poppies. And has transformed her own street in plymouth from bluebell street to poppy street. It was really emotional. I blubbed all the way through it. It was really beautiful. Normally, we would be with thousands of people, standing together and being part of the most beautiful services. We were not going to let it pass us, were we . No. We were determined we could mark it in a very poignant way. At the cenotaph in london, the queen and other royals watched from a balcony a scaled back service in whitehall. Down below, the Prime Minister, borisjohnson, and sir keir starmer, lay wreaths. In normal times, thousands gather here. But, today, for the first time, it was closed off to the public. And while traditional ceremonies and marches are called off in scotland, first minister Nicola Sturgeon laid a wreath at edinburgh castle. Remembering the 31 crew members who made the supreme sacrifice when the ship was attacked and sunk, august 19114, normandy. Rip, rest in peace. It is wicked of covid 19 to pick now, when the nation normally comes together to remember friends, family, but the brits, they get over these things. They organised alternatives with the wreaths. And, in two days time, stan will add his wreath to hundreds from across the country, which will travel by train to london on Remembrance Day. Fiona lamdin, bbc news. It has felt very different, hasnt it . Yes. It is normally such a huge event for many people to come together and commemorate and to celebrate. Just the quietness of it all. That is quite special, actually. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning, im asad ahmad. Scotland yard has said itll look into the actions of an officer at the cenotaph yesterday, after a video was circulated appearing to show a Police Officer pushing a man over as he played the bagpipes. It happened in whitehall after the royal family and Prime Minister laid their wreaths of remembrance. Police say theyll investigate the actions of the officer in the wider context of this incident. There was one arrest. Tens of thousands of londoners will see their real living wage increased from today to £10. 85, which is up by 10p an hour. Its paid voluntarily by hundreds of employers in london, and reflects a wage designed to meet everyday needs. Its over 20 higher than the National Minimum wage. The big news of the past week has undoubtably been the us election. London has a large American Expat Community whove followed every moment of the count and victory of president elect, joe biden. We spoke to a few of them about the result and, as youd expect, the reaction was mixed. Kamala harris in the white house is just a really enormous thing and i feel like ive witnessed history. I am disappointed because i think donald trump is done a lot of good in the past few years as the president. I was walking down a busy street and a bunch of people around me got the alert at the same time and, like, five of us were american. We just started celebrating in the middle of the street. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. The service good on all lines. The a2 is slow into town from the black prince interchange to danson, where the road is down to one lane. Further on the a2 in deptford, temporary lights are up near the George Dragon traffic lights thats for repairs to a burst water main. And cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Now, the weather with kate. Good morning, after a very mild weekend, it is unsurprisingly a mile start this monday morning. We do, however, have quite a bit of mist and fog and that is giving to be quite stubborn and take its time to lift. When it does, eventually, it will be lifting into low cloud, so it will stay rather grey throughout the day. We will see showers developing, coming up from the south as we head towards the end of the afternoon and early evening. But temperatures today above average. Between 15 16 celsius. 0vernight tonight we will still see one or two showers but, gradually, they will start to fade. We will see the mist and fog are reforming. Low cloud around, but temperatures again very mild tonight, between 10 12 celsius. Similar conditions as we head into tuesday. Quite a lot of cloud around but we are likely to see one or two brighter spells as we head through tuesday afternoon. Glimpses of sunshine. It does stay very mild this week both during the daytime and night time, as well. Im back with the latest from the bbc london newsroom in half an hour. Before photographs and smartphones, slides held all our precious family memories. A british film maker has made it his mission to collect thousands of slides, and hes created a book looking back at british life. Good morning, heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. The 17 day firebreak lockdown ends today in wales and, although restrictions there are easing, the pandemic is still having a huge impact on Mental Health. Throughout the last two and a half weeks, the bbc has been finding out how people have coped in the torfaen area, an economically challenged part of the country. 0ur social Affairs Correspondent Michael Buchanan reports from pontypool. The food is needed, but the visit perhaps more so an opportunity to check up on the struggling resident. On a struggling resident. All right, my dear . I have not seen anyone for about a week. Dawn williams had the virus and still lives with its impact. People dont understand the Mental Health issues and you bringing this is amazing. Listen, calm. Right . Calm. The illness created money worries that ended a relationship and forced her to live alone for the first time in years. You cant see anybody, cant see anyone to wave to. And it is the loneliness. Its dark nights now. Im in bed by seven. I just cant stand being alone down here. For those who tend to pontypools poorer households, like sue, the pandemic has revealed new levels of psychiatric need and the imperative of reaching everyone. Men are difficult to open up. Very difficult. But men, you put this face on that you are ok. But statistics have shown that, especially within young males, Mental Health is on an increase. The anxiety was changing everything about me, how i was. You know, how i acted, how i felt. Joseph Jordan Richards Mental Health deteriorated after he was furloughed and then laid off from his job as a Digital Marketing manager. I had no control over anything, which was a real trigger for me. His mind rendered him incapable of processing life anxiety racking his every moment. I could not be on my own for more than ten minutes. When i go to bed, i have to have sound. Anything that was sound for me to go to sleep. Because i didnt want to feel terrible. I wanted something to distract me and keep my brain from thinking, oh, god, youve lost yourjob, oh, no, this has happened. Seeking support is helping his recovery and, across the borough, coronavirus has led to more people needing psychiatric aid. Many problems sent on stress, often linked to money worries. A lack ofjobs has long been a problem here, but the virus has drawn in more casualties. Beth williams jones, lead singer with welsh language band calan, saw all her bookings cancelled. As her income quickly plummeted, her anxiety levels rocketed. My throat was tight, i couldnt breathe. My anxiety went from being feeling manageable to not being able to go out for my hours exercise a day and not being able to go to the shop, because i didnt know where money was going to come from. I didnt know how i was going to put food in the fridge or pay my bills. Beth has given up on music for now to return to teaching. Joseph has just cycled to berlin for charity. Both say their Mental Health is improving. For dawn, however, the loneliness continues, but the end of the welsh lockdown should help. Continues, but the end of the welsh Michael Buchanan, bbc news, pontypool. Lets bring in our gp dr nighat arif. It dr nighat arif. Is lovely to see you. The issue of it is lovely to see you. The issue of Mental Health has been difficult for people. Are you finding right now it is particularly difficult . The issue of Mental Health has been difficult when we had the first lockdown and we discussed it on this programme, saying what can we do to make it better . In the second lockdown, we were expecting it but not around the time of festivities. We are talking about how Remembrance Day was quiet. The bonfire was not the same, halloween. These festivities we would expect at this time of year, we would be spending with family, we are not able to do that. Anxiety, feeling low, stress, money worries are an issue. This is the time to come together. And now communities are coming together and in my area we have these flyers so that people having difficulty accessing internet, telephone calls, they can phone Community People to get support and just for a friendly chat, also. And a lot of things in the nhs with a free service so people who are struggling to see a gp can self refer onto that. And another thing i am noticing is the rise in eating disorders. When you are lonely you do not feel like eating. Family members say it is not that we are over eating, we are going the opposite way. That is something i did not see much in the first lockdown but this time around it is coming out more. We need to be talking more and need to be able to touch base with loved ones and neighbours, use apps, the couch to 5k to get exercise. Mind, good samaritans. So many Free Services people can tap into for better Mental Health. Can you remind is what iapp is . It is psychological talking therapies. If you search iapt. It is something you can do directly without having to contact yourgp. Directly without having to contact your gp. And eating disorders, if pa rents a re your gp. And eating disorders, if parents are concerned about their children, what should they be looking out for . This is tough because it is parents and relatives, partner is coming forward. There are questions you can touch base with your relative or Family Member and asked them if food is occupying their thoughts throughout the day . Do they see themselves fatter than they are, so they are actually thin. Have they lost a lot of weight . A stone also in the past three weeks. Do they feel when they eat they feel sick or make themselves sick to be co mforta ble. Sick or make themselves sick to be comfortable. They are key questions you can ask. If it is something concerning you, always touch base with that the gp. But also the app service you can also get support. And there is a good charity called beats that offer good advice. Some people find this time of year difficult because of the lack of daylight and trying to get out to do exercise when it is dark after for pm is harder. I am the same, usually i would be up and about but finding the weather is not great and the clocks have gone back and the ability to have motivation is not there and the gyms are closed so we have to keep that motivation going and if you can, somehow keep in touch with your friends, use your group chat to do that. There are online things you can do, yoga, etc. And the active ten app where you build in ten minutes of exercise to your day. Little bits. Try to find the balance. Not by doing too much and not stressing yourself out by not doing enough. That is the other way, you tend to compare. Now is not the time to do that. I agree with you. Getting through it is good. Lets talk about vaccines. The nhs is preparing to deliver a vaccine as early as next month. How does that affect your surgery . How was it working . This is a recent initiative. We think a lot of the vaccines are in latter stages of trial, phase three, which is fantastic, and we could get a vaccine around december, the new year. What has happened is there is a d raft letter year. What has happened is there is a draft letter sent out to try to get primary Care Networks prepared. The idea is if it is available, the nhs is up and running and we have systems in place. And they will allocate a specific surgery in their patch where they can roll out the vaccine. It looks like it will be two vaccines. An initial vaccine and a booster later. We will try to get the most vulnerable in to get the vaccine to them first. And then put it out to the wider population, depending on supply. If we have one surgery doing it, we can keep tabs on what the vaccine will be like and that data will build into the trial later. There are questions of money, what this practice will do, because they will need to run the service seven days a week, and it will be 88. We seven days a week, and it will be 8 8. We have to look at capacity and gp practices to be able to do that. Lovely to speak to you. Thank you. Sally is with us. The top two from last season played. But it was all change all over the weekend. I think it will be one of those topsy turvy seasons. Leicester city are top of the premier league this morning. Their 1 0 win over wolves, coupled with liverpools draw at Manchester City, means the foxes lead the way after a weekend where spurs and southampton have also spent time at the summit. Joe lynskey reports. Since friday morning, four different teams have been top of the premier league. Some have won it before. For others, its a novelty. But this unique season may yet produce a new champion, and the more recent winners still hesitate to get going. For 88 minutes, it looks like spurs would draw at west brom. They were rescued by a flick from their leading man. Commentator and kane has won it for sprs harry kane is the spurs saviour once again. Every team wants to have a good position in the table. It wants to reach objectives, it doesnt matter which objectives. It needs to win, also, matches like this. Thats what we have to do. Sometimes its possible to play beautiful, other times it is more difficult. It was kanes 150th top flight goal. Hes still just 27. That sent spurs top, but for just an hour or so, when another english striker took his side to the summit. But jamie vardys chance for leicester came through controversy. Wolves thought this handball was harsh. The referee had a second look and said penalty. And vardy scores leicester protected their win with extraordinary goalkeeping. This team have experience and form. They have now won six games in a row. A big, big three points. And an amazing record over the course of this period. My admiration for the players grows by the day. Liverpool would have gone back top with a win at man city. They were on course to do that when mo salah scored this penalty. City are in mid table, but not giving up on catching up. They levelled this game through gabrieljesus, then could have had more. And de bruyne has put it wide look at the shock on de bruynes face at missing it. It finished 1 1. City are still tenth. And, in this premier league season, unusual things are happening. After back to back defeats, aston villa have returned to winning ways. They beat arsenal 3 0 at the emirates 0llie watkins scoring twice. It was another day of shocks in the first round of the fa cup, yesterday, as scu nthorpe and Burton Albion were both knocked out in the first round by non league opposition. As were 2013 winners wigan, who were beaten by National League north side chorley. Wigan had led 2 0 at one stage, but chorley, who are bottom of their league, fought back to win 3 2 after extra time. Rangers remain nine points clear at the top of the scottish premiership after thrashing hamilton 8 0. Kemar roofe, joe aribo and James Tavernier all scored twice for rangers, who have won their last six league matches. The victory is the biggest by any team in the league since 2013. Celtic stay second after beating motherwell 4 1. Manchester uniteds women have gone top of the Womens Super League for the very first time. Thats after they won 1 0 against arsenal, ella toone with the goal. There were wins too for chelsea, west ham and aston villa. Hugh carthy ended a successful couple of weeks for british cycling by securing a third place at the vuelta a espana. The 26 year old from preston, seen here in pink, won the 12th stage on his way to the podium in madrid. Slovenias Primoz Roglic retained his title, with Ecuadors Richard Carapaz second. Carthys success comes just a fortnight after Tao Geoghegan hart won the giro ditalia. And there was a special day for scotlands Robert Macintyre at golfs cyprus showdown. This putt on the 18th sealed a first win on the pga tour for the 24 year old. And as the result was confirmed, he was greeted via video call by his family back home. There are nappies everywhere all good now it is over. 0h, there are nappies everywhere all good now it is over. Oh, wow. They we re good now it is over. Oh, wow. They were much more excited than he was. Seriously, he said he has struggled with lockdown and the pandemic and he has found it tough to get back into his goal. But hes now targeting a place in the worlds top 50. He was a little bit shell shocked. I saw he was a little bit shell shocked. Isawa he was a little bit shell shocked. I saw a lot of his fellow golfers saying yesterday that was the first of many. A young lad. He has a big future ahead. Thank you. It is the masters this week. Does that mean you will get no sleep . Iam sleep . I am fully ready. I have a little bit of carpet laid out so i can do some putting as i watch i cannot wait. It will be amazing. Especially in this year of all years. Heres carol with a look at this mornings weather. F99y foggy at the moment, especially so across england and scotland but not exclusively. There is also mist but it isa exclusively. There is also mist but it is a mile start. We have rain in the forecast and showers. Almost have the kitchen sink. To show you how mild it is, on the south coast it is 14 how mild it is, on the south coast it is 1a at the moment. In inverness, we have clear sky and so the temperature is only three. The weather front producing rain that will move away in the next couple of hours. The next coming in from the south west. It will produce showers as we go through the day. The mist and fog will lift but some of it only lifting into low cloud, we think mainly on the hills, but we could see stubborn areas. In north east scotland, hanging on to clear skies with sunshine around. Generally cloud and showers from the south west pushing further east as we go through the day. Temperatures today peaking at 16. Not as mild as yesterday when parts of wales got to 17 but warmer in scotland than yesterday. 0vernight we hang on to clearer skies in the north east of scotland. A lot of cloud around. And we will see mist and fog patches. And some showers. For most, not a cold night, except under clear skies. Into tomorrow, the weather front producing showers. It is fairly wea k front producing showers. It is fairly weak as it moves towards the east. We have this next one waiting in the wings. Tomorrow, cloud, it should break up as we go through the day particularly in england and wales. Hanging onto clearer skies in the far north east of scotland. Some spots but nothing significant. Temperatures 10 15. 0ut towards the west you can see what is coming our way, the next clutch of fronts. Connected to low pressure. Moving slowly in by the end of the night to western Northern Ireland and scotland. It will be squally. Windy conditions. Particularly with exposure, in the west. Some of the rain will be heavy. The further east you travel, the drier it will be. Some brightness, limited sunshine. Temperatures 11 111. And towards the end of the week, the rain eventually makes it over to the east overnight, clearing the south east early on thursday and for most, then it will bea dry thursday and for most, then it will be a dry and quiet day. On friday, we have more wet and windy weather coming in from the west. So the weather is topsy turvy once again this week. When i was driving in, it was thick fog, so you have to be careful. Absolutely, and there is a lot of it around across england and scotland but especially so in england, so do ta ke but especially so in england, so do take extra care. I was very careful, louise. 25 years after landmark legislation was passed to protect disability rights, research for the bbc has revealed the impact coronavirus has had on people with disabilities. It found that 60 of those who use social care said they have had difficulty getting hold of essentials, including medication and in some cases even equipment to help them breathe. 0ur disability correspondent nikki fox reports. The filter attaches between the machine on the back of my chair. It may not look that much, but for fi, this small plastic filter is critical. This is actually the difference between life and death. She has muscular dystrophy and uses a ventilator every night to help her breathe. But, since the pandemic hit in march, her regular supply of crucial filters from the nhs has stopped. Typically, i use it every night, all night. Its been very stressful. Ive been panicked, to be honest. Its been hard not knowing when we are next going to get supplies. I dont want to go to hospital in a pandemic. The department of health and social care says it has got sufficient stocks and that patients should contact their local care provider. But, like others across the uk, fi has been unable to get any more filters. The one she is currently using is six months old. They should be changed every day. Whats your greatest fear . That i will end up with pneumonia from using dirty filters too long and the girls will end up without a mum. A survey by the bbc has found that the pandemic has severely affected the lives of disabled people across the uk. From equipment shortages like fis, to concerns about ppe for support workers and medication, now, with a second wave of infections, the fear is a repeat of the issues seen first time around. Is ppe going to become a problem again . Are carers going to become a problem again . Are care homes going to become a problem again . There has been a lack of adequate planning and Emergency Planning for disabled people and their families. I mean, people have been let down. Im tess daly and im from sheffield. Tess is a successful social media influencer. She has spinal Muscular Atrophy and is unable to clear her airways on her own if she coughs. Despite a change in nhs englands no visitor policy, she is worried that if she is admitted to hospital with covid, her personal assistant might not be allowed to go in with her. I need somebody that is well versed in my needs and i was outright told that, well, we hope you could have a carer with you. But we are not sure. If i get admitted to a ward and the matron or head nurse says no to my carer, what do i do . Coronavirus is touching all our lives. But disabled people have been disproportionately affected. 60 of those who have died had a disability. The government defended its record saying its support has been inclusive. But the question now is, as well as the fear of the virus itself, to what extent will the pandemic damage disabled peoples rights and independence . A real insight to difficulties some people are having. The latest lockdown rules in england mean a ban on all but essential foreign travel until at least the beginning of december. That means more cancelled flights and holidays, with many customers being offered vouchers rather than refunds. But what are the rules around them . Nina is taking a look. You talk to people and that is one of the main thing is upsetting them. You want a holiday to look forward to and it is waiting to see what will happen. It has been a year of disappointment when it comes to foreign travel and in england, travel including international, is banned with a few exceptions, for example work and education. If you go abroad for a holiday, you could face a fine and that is the same in wales and in scotland and Northern Ireland, you are advised to carefully consider travel and must adhere to quarantine rules when you get back. Restrictions have had a huge impact on the foreign holiday industry. Commercial flights were down 50 over the summer compared to last year. Many who had trips cancelled ended up with vouchers or credit notes rather than a refund. If that sounds familiar, where do you stand . If that sounds familiar, where do you stand . With package holidays, the good news is that if your trip was cancelled and you received a credit note before the 31st of december this year, it will be protected by the government. Even if the travel company fails, you can get cash back. But you must use the credit note or get the refund before the end of september next year, or you will lose that money. What about if your flight was cancelled . You do not have the same protections and to your entitlement will depend on who your entitlement will depend on who you booked with. Ryanair, they say you booked with. Ryanair, they say you have 12 months to spend the voucher or it can be exchanged for cash at any time during that point. British airways say their vouchers are valid till april 2022. But once issued you cannot convert it back to cash. Easyjet say their vouchers last 12 months but will only be exchanged for cash in their words in exceptional circumstances. As we can see, it is important to check terms and conditions when you accept refu nd and conditions when you accept refund vouchers. The consumer body which has this advice. Airlines to an which has this advice. Airlines to a n exte nt which has this advice. Airlines to an extent of their own worst enemies. I would like to be able to tell people to accept these searches. We do not want airlines to go bust, because it would reduce competition and in the long run we may face higher prices. But because they attach unhelpful terms and conditions to them, and these are not the only ones, there are other problems with Airline Vouchers as well, and ultimately, if the Airline Goes Bust you are unlikely to see a penny of your money. It is distinct from company refund credit notes where you do have financial protection. You might want to keep that voucher to make sure you have something to look forward to but you dont have to. If the trip is cancelled by the airline or holiday firm you are entitled to your cash back. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning, im asad ahmad. Scotland yard has said itll look into the actions of an officer at the cenotaph yesterday, after a video was circulated appearing to show a Police Officer, pushing a man over as he played the bagpipes. It happened in whitehall after the royal family and Prime Minister laid their wreaths of remembrance. Police say theyll investigate the actions of the officer in the wider context of this incident. Its paid voluntarily by hundreds of employers in london, and reflects a wage designed to meet everyday needs. Its over 20 higher than the National Minimum wage. The big news of the past week, has undoubtably been the us election. Well, london has a large American Expat Community, whove followed every moment of the count, and the victory of president elect, joe biden. We spoke to a few of them about the result, and as youd expect, the reaction was mixed. Theres currently a good service on the tube. The a2 is slow in to town from the black prince interchange to danson, where the road is down to one lane. Further in on the a2 in deptford, temporary lights are up near the George Dragon traffic lights thats for repairs to a burst water main. And cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Now the weather with kate. For many it will remain cloudy throughout the day with rain clearing from the used butter showers from the west. Good morning. Its monday, the 9th of november. Our top story. The us president elect, joe biden, has begun planning for his presidency, and has said coronavirus will be his key priority when he officially takes over in january. Mr biden is expected to name a team of experts today, who will draw up plans to tackle the virus in america. Meanwhile, donald trump is still refusing to accept the result of last weeks election. Ben wright reports. Oh, no, not i will survive. Thank you for being with us live from dc. Ben, what more do we know of the plans mr biden is due to set out later . There are big plans ahead, its a case of what he is going to get through, i suppose . Yeah, good morning. He is going to be outlining later today the 12 person panel who he is going to charge with formulating his covid strategy. He has got a heck of a job on his hands. 0n has got a heck of a job on his hands. On sunday, the us passed 10 million cases and there are currently 100,000 new covid infections every day. It is pretty rampant in most of the country. This isa rampant in most of the country. This is a country divided about the wearing of masks. It is divided about how far businesses should be shut down and the economy restricted to get a grip of this. It is also a federal system, so it is individual states responsible for how they are handling the pandemic. Joe biden wa nts to handling the pandemic. Joe biden wants to get a grip on this as he enters the white house. He is talking about a National Mask mandate. He is having to think about how to roll out vaccines when they become available. He is talking about putting his faith in the hands of scientists, a big change of tone to donald trump, who has publicly disagreed with his own on this. Joe biden is having briefings try to get on the front foot. Donald trump still has not given his blessing to joe bidens victory. He has not offered its support or considered at all. 0ver offered its support or considered at all. Over the weekend his Campaign Manager suggested donald trump might Start Holding rallies around the country to raise money for legal forms to try to fight this result. All that to look forward to. Thank you. So, what doesjoe bidens presidency mean for the us uk relationship . Joining us now with more on this is our Political Correspondent, jonathan blake. Good morning. What is your inside . Joe biden might have broken up the political bromance between Boris Johnson and donald trump, but that does not mean there will be a big shift in uk and us relations overnight. The relationship between the countries has of course been strong for some time. Atjust how strong for some time. Atjust how strong can depend, to a large extent, the personal and political relationship between the leaders of both countries. So lets look at where they stand. Boris johnson both countries. So lets look at where they stand. Borisjohnson and joe biden have never met. Last year joe biden have never met. Last year joe biden have never met. Last year joe biden described borisjohnson as a physical and emotional clone of donald trump. Then there is brexit. Take in the uk out of the eu is the linchpin of Boris Johnsons premiership butjoe biden has made it clear he thinks brexit is a bad idea. Why does that leave things . Yesterday, the Prime Minister said there is nothing to worry about. Joe biden doesnt take office until january. But there are immediate challenges for this new and emerging relationship. We still wait to hear Whenjoe Biden would have spoken to Prime Minister Boris Johnson Whenjoe Biden would have spoken to Prime Minister borisjohnson on the phone, but the trade talks with the eu continued this week in london. Also, opportunities for Common Ground as well in terms of the approach to iran and russia. Jonathan, thank you. Very interesting topic. Shall i talk about it . Yes well be finding out more about what this means for the future relationship between the uk and us, with former Prime Minister gordon brown at 8. 30. Uk and eu officials will resume trade talks in london later this morning, as another key week for negotiations begins. Borisjohnson said on sunday that a deal was there to be done. Meanwhile, the house of lords is due to vote on the internal market bill, a proposed new law the government says is needed to protect the uks integrity once the brexit transition period expires next month. The 17 day firebreak lockdown ends in wales today. Pubs, bars and non essential shops are some of the businesses that can reopen. The countrys health minister, labours vaughan gething, says it will be another fortnight before the full impact of the restrictions is known. Tomos morgan reports. This time last year, 15 year old 0sian roberts was making a name for himself playing for the cardiff blues rugby academy. Portugal has announced a two week state of emergency, following a surge in infections. A night time and weekend curfew will come into force across most of the country from today. Portugal recorded more than 6,500 cases on saturday, its highest ever daily number. Almost 3,000 people have died there with the virus since the pandemic began. The contestants taking part in this years im a celebrity, get me out of here have been revealed, and include the actor shane richie and 0lympian sir mo farah. Because of the pandemic, this years series has relocated from the australian jungle to a castle in wales. Although the show wont feature the usual bushtucker trials, show bosses have promised the stars will have a basic diet of rice and beans. The series starts next sunday on itv. It is going to be quite different in the cold, isnt it . I think it is going to be a very good watch this year. Ive got a feeling. I dont know why. Heres carol with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning. It is fairly foggy this morning, particularly so across parts of england and wales. Some mist around as well as the fog. A mild start. That will give way to a cloudy day. Some spots of rain in eastern areas courtesy of this weather front. Then we eastern areas courtesy of this weatherfront. Then we have eastern areas courtesy of this weather front. Then we have this next front from the south west introducing some showery rain. It is moving eastwards through the day. The mist and fog should lift, some of it into low cloud. The emphasis todayis of it into low cloud. The emphasis today is on a cloudy day. You can see the showery rain drifting eastwards. Brighter skies in the north east of scotland. A cold start to the day. You will hang on to the sunshine. Its gotten to today it will be warmer than it was yesterday. Generally we are looking ata yesterday. Generally we are looking at a ten to 17 degrees. Through this evening and overnight, we still will have overnight bursts of showery rain, stilla have overnight bursts of showery rain, still a lot of cloud, a return to mist and fog patches. Across the north east of scotland, something clearer. In those clear skies, temperatures will be lower than you see on the chart. It will be a mild night generally for the time of the year. Into tomorrow, another cloudy day. Fewer showers than we are looking at today. Through the day you will start to see the cloud break up, particularly in the south. Afair bit break up, particularly in the south. A fair bit of sunshine in the north east of scotland. Temperatures up north east of scotland. Temperatures up to around 15. Thank you. The president Electjoe Biden and his team have started setting out plans for when he enters the white house, saying they will hit the ground running on day one. Mr biden has said tackling coronavirus will be his key priority when he officially takes over, but how easy will his transition be . We can speak now to amy pope, who worked with mr biden under the 0bama administration. Thank you very much for being with us on the breakfast. You worked with barack obama, you worked Withjoe Biden. How do you thinkjoe bidens approach as president will differ . He isa approach as president will differ . He is a very different personality. He is a very different personality. He really loves to get to know people. It gets very absorbed in conversations. If one was briefing him, you would know you are going to be laid to the briefing because he would be absorbed in a conversation with somebody before you. Later. He makes an effort to reach across to the republicans on many occasions i have walked into his office where he has been on the phone with a Republican Congress person, just checking in to see how they are doing, or wishing them a happy birthday. He is known for being gregarious, outgoing, really wants to get to know people and i think that will serve him well. Many people in the uk stayed up quite late to watch his speech given on saturday night here, when he was talking mainly about not running as a democrat but reeling as an american. I wonder how that message will have reached out to some of those who did not vote for him . Well, for some it will be welcome, because they have come from a presidency that has really divided the American Public based on who they vote. It is a typical of american governance. For others, they will have to be persuaded and that will likely be through a very focused response on covid, which is affecting americans regardless of their political affiliations. Finally, afraid there are going to be some who are just die hard trump loyalists who wont ever really come along and will constantly be looking for evidence that the joe along and will constantly be looking for evidence that thejoe biden is working against them and the system is working against them. Give us an idea, during your time working with barack obama, how frustrating it was to not have a majority in the senate. It looks like President Biden will have that same issue. It may be difficult to get some of his policies through. Will that be the case again . Absolutely. The legislative policies are going to be a very hard road. Something like adding a public option for health care. Some of the Climate Change, for example, all of that will be tough. There is the recovery in response to covid, where the republicans have strong interest in working with him. Even then it will not be an easy path. 0n the other hand the president has pretty White Authority when it comes to Foreign Policy and when it comes to his executive actions and the way his federal government is run. I suspect we will see a lot of focus played there. There has been a lot of talk about Kamala Harris over the weekend. She has been speaking, quite a lot of reaction on social media. As Vice President , what sort of role will she have once we get to january next year . Its not clear. This is dependent on the president himself. For example, president barack 0bama himself. For example, president ba rack 0bama really himself. For example, president barack 0bama really wanted joe biden to play a key role with regard to congress, which makes a lot of sense, given his strong relationships there. Kamal harris is also coming out of congress. So we will have to see how this shakes out. She is obviously very strong, very thoughtful, very intelligent. It is not clear if there are going to be particular initiatives that she wants to lead or if she step up where the president steps back. Fascinating talking to you. Thank you for your time. As mr biden gets ready to take on the top job, President Trump is yet to concede and his team have asked for a recounts in the key states of georgia and wisconsin. Were joined now by veteran republican pollster, frank luntz. Good morning. Thank you forjoining us. You have won awards for being the most accurate pundit. What went wrong here . The polls seems to have got it wrong. Biden did not win by as much as they said he probably would. Ill put some numbers behind that. Cnn, their final survey would. Ill put some numbers behind that. Cnn, theirfinal survey had joe biden winning by 12 points. The actual number would be 3 . The Washington Post poll had, for example, biden winning by 17 points in wisconsin. He actually won by 1 . Both did three things wrong. They did not poll enough trump voters because they are tough to poll, they dont want to be polled, they dont wa nt to dont want to be polled, they dont want to be taken advantage of. Number two, they used it for prognostication. You are not supposed to do that. Polling is only a snapshot in time, it cannot be used to project days or weeks ahead of time. And the pollsters didnt actually talk to the voters themselves, they surveyed them through telephone and online. Of the people i do myjob, we actually have to speak to the voters to understand why they feel the way they do. Why they are agitated, why they are upset or why they are happy. You have to fix those three elements before you fix pulling overall. What do you think will happen now . We know that President Trump has not conceded. There are a couple of recou nts conceded. There are a couple of recounts going on. What is it likely to do . I dont think he will concede for a number of days. To do . I dont think he will concede fora number of days. He to do . I dont think he will concede for a number of days. He will take the election through the process, challenge it, take it to the courts, do the recounts. I do believe that in the end he will concede. In the end i expect him to be gracious. But not for the next week to ten days. I know it is going to agitated and upset both the journalistic community, want to move on, and the voters, who want to move on. But i believe the president understands his own voters want to make sure. 85 of his voters thought he was going to win this election. They need to be satisfied it was wasting a full and proper way. They remember the year 2000 when al gore was declared the president first. Then george bush. Then it was too close for anybody to go. And a lot of people in that election felt the process did not carry itself through until the end. So they want to see this one does as well. But make no mistake, joe biden will be the next president of the United States. When you think he might concede . Can you put a date on it . Well, i put a date on Whenjoe Biden would be declared president that i got that right within two hours. So im going to say ten from now. We will hold you to that. Thank you very much. 0k, said with some certainty as well. The 17 day lockdown in wales has ended today, with new measures coming in to help prevent a rise in cases. Non essential shops, gyms and Indoor Leisure facilities are some of the businesses allowed to reopen, and two households will be allowed meet up inside homes if they have formed a bubble. But elsewhere in the uk, tough measures remain in place. In scotland, a five tier system of restrictions came into force last week. No part of scotland is in the highest tier, but the central belt is in tier three, which bans Contact Sports and alcohol being served in hospitality venues. England is now under a four week lockdown until december 2nd. Pubs, restaurants and non essential shops are closed, and household mixing indoors is banned. In Northern Ireland, pubs, restaurants and cafes are closed, and different households mixing indoors is also banned. Those measures are due to end on friday. Were joined now by our correspondent tomos morgan, who is in cardiff this morning. I expect lots of people are looking forward to the easing of their restrictions . Good morning. Yeah, the easing of the restrictions after a17 the easing of the restrictions after a 17 day lock down here in wales. As you can see behind me this shop is now open again for a business. It was closed for the second time this year, the second lockdown. You are the manager here. Talk to me about what the difficulties have been going through a second lockdown and what you are looking forward to about being open again . The difficulty is the uncertainty with furlough schemes and things like that. But we are open now. We are looking forward to welcoming our customers back in. Its really about having the shopping experience. Actual shopping rather than doing it online. The main safety precautions you would have to put in place now . Of course. People have to wear masks. We have the social distancing and we have the hand sanitiser at the door. They put that on to have a look in the shop. So yeah. Thank you. Those are the main measures for shops which are reopening. Jim and Leisure Facilities will also be reopening from today. A maximum number on certain types of classes, spin classes are limited to 15, for example. There are changes in the hospitality sector. Two groups of households can mix and stay indoors. But groups of four in different households can meet what they have to be socially distanced. They can come to a place like this, have a drink and some food. What are the precautions . What are the difficulties when you have four people from different households . think it is the controls. Its about following the process, making sure obviously Peoples Health and hygiene are foremost. Its the cost that goes with it in terms of staff time, the literature. It is generally controls and following process, but of course with that comes a lot of small print. It is a lot of process we have to follow and we are struggling with that at the moment to understand what the right thing to do is. They will also have to do id when people come here to check whether people live together or come from different households. Those rules come into force from today. It will be about two weeks before we see whether the firebreak has had the desired effect and the numbers have reduced in wales. Thank you. Really interesting to see how thatis you. Really interesting to see how that is developing and how things are changing this week. How many of you remember the time when your precious family photos were stored on slides rather than your smartphone . Ido i do remember my dad getting cracking with the slides. Dear me, it was dull. Just after nine this morning, well be chatting to a film maker whos collected thousands of unwanted slides containing treasured moments that have been forgotten. Lets take a look at some of them now. Music. There are some brilliant pictures. I got slightly addicted to the instagram feed yesterday. They are all anonymous. But a lovely slice of life. Maybe you recognise one of your relatives . If you did, get in touch with us. All of those pictures were found on discarded slides found at flea markets and auctions. So, if you recognise anyone in those pictures please do get in touch in the usual ways. We have the environment minister in the way. George eustice. Gordon brown is here at half past eight. Former Prime Minister. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning, im asad ahmad. Scotland yard has said itll look into the actions of an officer at the cenotaph yesterday after a video was circulated appearing to show a Police Officer pushing a man over as he played the bagpipes. It happened in whitehall after the royal family and Prime Minister laid their wreaths of remembrance. Police say theyll investigate the actions of the officer in the wider context of the incident. There was one arrest. Tens of thousands of londoners will see their real living wage increased from today to £10. 85, which is up by10p an hour. Its paid voluntarily by hundreds of employers in london and reflects a wage designed to meet everyday needs. Its over 20 higher than the National Minimum wage. The big news of the past week has undoubtedly been the us election. Well london has a large American Expat Community whove followed every moment of the count and the victory of president Electjoe Biden. We spoke to a few of them about the result and, as youd expect, the reaction was mixed. Kamala harris in the white house is just a really enormous thing and i feel like ive witnessed history. I am disappointed because i think donald trump has done a lot of good in the past few years as the president. I was walking down a busy street and a bunch of people around me got the alert at the same time and, like, five of us were american. We just started celebrating in the middle of the street. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. Theres currently a good service on the tube. The a2 is slow into town from the black prince interchange to danson where the road is down to one lane. Further in on the a2 in deptford temporary lights are up near the George Dragon traffic lights thats for repairs to a burst water main. And cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Now the weather with kate. Good morning, after a very mild weekend, it is unsurprisingly a mild start this monday morning. We do, however, have quite a bit of mist and fog and that is giving of mist and fog and that is going to be quite stubborn and take its time to lift. We will see the mist and fog reforming. Va nessa Vanessa Feltz is on radio with her brea kfast Vanessa Feltz is on radio with her Breakfast Show and in ten minutes she will look at Garden Centres that have been allowed to remain open during this lockdown. Hello, this is breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Back to our top story. President Electjoe Biden has said he will make fighting Climate Change one of his Top Priorities when he takes office in january. Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has pledged to work with mr biden to defend our common values. Werejoined now by the environment secretary george eustice. Good morning. Has borisjohnson spoken to mr biden as yet . good morning. Has borisjohnson spoken to mr biden as yet . I do not think so yet but it is early. Joe biden has a lot on his plate with the us election having just concluded. I think it is the case as your piece suggested, it is likely the biden cap would take a different approach particularly when it comes to the environment, which is an important opportunity for the uk because we are hosting a summit next year. Joe biden previously referred to borisjohnson as a physical, emotional clone of donald trump. People say all sorts of things on the campaign trail. But there is a close relationship always between the uk and us on defence and security in particular. And that endures irrespective on who the occu pa nts of endures irrespective on who the occupants of number 10 and the white house. I suspect nowjoe biden is president , he and the Prime Minister will want to cement an important relationship because it is an important relationship for security and defence in particular. Lets talk about what he said about brexit. He made it clear he would have preferred britain to remain in the European Union. Yes, and look, obviously barrick 0bama, people will recall, himself got involved in that 2016 referendum campaign. Joe biden has said he would have preferred it if we had voted to stay in the eu but we voted to leave and i suspect thatjoe biden, once president , would understand you have to respect democratic processes in other countries. There was a decision here to leave and that is what we will do. He has said he would not allow peace in Northern Ireland to be a casualty of brexit. Will the Prime Minister listened to that kind of message . We very much agree with him and the uk and internal market bill is all about protecting peace and stability in Northern Ireland and gives Northern Ireland businesses u nfettered gives Northern Ireland businesses unfettered access to markets so it would be wrong to do otherwise, and it ensures we have the power to bring legal clarity and certainty should there be any loose ends that negotiations with the eu have failed to resolve and that is what you do if you want to have peace and stability in Northern Ireland and i am sure that will be understood. Lets talk about the trade deal. How important is it the uk gets a trade deal with the us . Important is it the uk gets a trade dealwith the us . We important is it the uk gets a trade deal with the us . We have an enormous amount of trade with the us already in many areas. We would like already in many areas. We would like a trade agreement, we think we could do more together with opportunities particular for sectors such as automotive and also opportunities for the us in the uk market. We have been working with the Previous Administration on that trade agreement. It remains to be seen how much priorityjoe biden and his administration will place on trade. He has signalled his priority is to re engage with other multilateral agreements on things like the environment, rather than trade, agreements on things like the environment, ratherthan trade, but it is too early to tell. We have done work to progress and trade negotiation and obviously we want that to resume. Does it have to start all over again with the new administration . It does not if the new administration is happy to pick up new administration is happy to pick up where the previous one did and around the world you often find when it comes to trade, there is often a bipartisan approach on trade since a nation pulls my interest will tend to be the same irrespective of who is in power, so that is possible and something we will explore, but it is too early to tell and may be the time it takes for a new administration to take root means there is slippage in time, but we will see once they are properly in place. You talk about slippage in time, how damaging could it be for the uk . We already do huge amounts of trade with the United States. If we could get a Free Trade Agreement it opens up other opportunities, but a trade deal with the United States is not critical to our economic success , is not critical to our economic success, it is just that if we could get a trade deal with the us it would create additional opportunities. You are environment secretary and you mentioned Climate Change and we understand thatjoe biden will rejoin the paris agreement. How significant is that . I think it is significant because obviously we need the whole world and all the big players and largest economies to play their part, if this Global Endeavour to tackle Climate Change is to work. There was disappointment when the trump regime decided they would withdraw from that paris agreement. It makes it harder to get other countries to sign up and to take it seriously. The uk has always felt we should have a multilateral approach across the world to tackling these global challenges and i think it would be welcome that the United States would return to the fold on that and hopefully work with us as we approach two important issues next year, first the summit in october that will be hosted in glasgow. Also there is an important meeting next year to settle biodiversity targets for the next ten years, which will also be important. Do you expect a real change on the us approach to Climate Change . Ifjoe biden, once president , does what his team seem to suggest he will do, and engage multilaterally on issues like Climate Change and the environment, and other Multilateral International fora more generally, i think that would be positive in terms of being able to get good outcomes next year when we host and to get other countries in the world to do their bit. Can we talk something on top of joe bidens to do list which is tackling coronavirus. Can you update us on how the mass testing is going on in liverpool . My understanding is the new lateral flow test that has been developed that can give much faster turnaround in results within i think about a0 minutes, that is now available to everyone in the liverpool area as part of that pilot. We have been increasing Testing Capacity in recent months. It is now over 300,000 tests offered per day. A test is only as good as the speed you can turn the result around and what we have focused on isa around and what we have focused on is a faster test so people can act more quickly to prevent the spread of the virus. If you can make this work, it is a major breakthrough. You will have seen there were anti lockdown protests in manchester over the weekend, and some anecdotal evidence people are not taking notice of these latest restrictions. Are you concerned there is lockdown fatigue . We understand people will feel frustrated and some will feel a sense of lockdown fatigue. I think the majority of people recognise that we have a role to play to try to stem the spread of this virus. It is not easy on anyone but i think the majority of people are abiding by new regulations. It is not quite like the last lockdown in that schools are open and people are encouraged to go to work if they cannot work from home. That said, shops have closed, restaurants and pubs have closed, and i think people are by and large abiding by new restrictions. There are reports today with Research Suggesting these measures are affecting peoples Mental Health. Are you concerned by that . What can the government do to help with that . We are concerned by that. It is the case that putting people into forced isolation can have an impact on Mental Health and the measures we have taken are having an Economic Impact which can affect Mental Health. It is something we have looked at and it is one of the reasons this time around the guidance for the so called shielded people, those clinically vulnerable, is a bit different from last time because you still have to be able to live their life and get out and get fresh air and take exercise. We have taken a different approach in some of these measures. We hope it will be for a shorter period. George eustice, thank you. We will be speaking to gordon brown at 8 30am so a lot to look forward to. Sally, what are you going to tell us about . Talking about these two. Liverpool missed the chance to go back to the top of the premier league after they were held to a 1 all draw at Manchester City. The visitors went ahead early on thanks to this penalty from mo salah. But city were quickly back level thanks to this finish from gabrieljesus. City then had the chance to win it after a penalty was given for this hand ball. But Kevin De Bruyne couldnt convert from the spot, with it finishing 1 all. Its leicester who sit top of the premier league this morning after they beat wolves 1 0. Jamie vardy scoring from the spot his ninth goal of the season. And after back to back defeats, aston villa have returned to winning ways. They beat arsenal 3 0 at the emirates 0llie watkins scoring twice. Were used to seeing them on the big screen, but hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney have, like many of us this year, been forced to make their appearances virtually. They have been speaking to wrexham afc fans on a video call, on whether they will be allowed to buy the football club. Guy walker was on the call yesterday and joins us now. What on earth was that call like . It must have been incredible. What on earth was that call like . It must have been incrediblem what on earth was that call like . It must have been incredible. It is exciting. I think we are lucky they have chosen us, they want to buy our clu b have chosen us, they want to buy our club and invest serious money. They are going to put us on the back. think we are fortunate. Ryan reynolds, one of the biggest hollywood stars, what is his connection with wrexham . Hollywood stars, what is his connection with wrexham . He does not have one. He was looking around western europe, at different clubs, they said. They focused on the uk. There were other clubs they had in mind and they have gone for wrexham. I think they wanted a club from a working class background. They call us the sleeping giant. We are big by non league standards. You can see what they are going to do, they will document it. And so us rising from non league up the leagues and hopefully to the premier league. I do not know where they will take us but we fans, we have been so poor so long, it is exciting. What influence do the fans have on the decision, how much power over whether or not they can be part of this club . We have all the power because we are a clu b have all the power because we are a club owned by the fans. We vote from today and it finishes on sunday and next monday, they will announce it. Iam sure next monday, they will announce it. I am sure it will go through. That they will be the new owners. It will ta ke they will be the new owners. It will take a couple of weeks after that for it to be finalised. By early december, they will be the new owners. How often do you expect to see them on the touchline cheering for wrexham . They said yesterday, under any normal circumstances they would be in wrexham having the meeting face to face, having a drink with the fans. They say they want to come over as much as they can. 0bviously they have theirjobs to do, but they will definitely come over as much as possible. They have so much enthusiasm. They will appoint a ceo who will run the club day today and report back to them, i presume. No, they will be over as much as possible. Nobody is going to football matches at the moment. So after covid, lets see. There is one rule for wrexham they said. One rule . I watched a little bit of the call and they said they will be one rule, you always have to beat chester. If we play them again they are our rivals and they said we a lwa ys are our rivals and they said we always have to beat them, which is nice to hear. It is lovely to talk to you. Best of luck. I will go to watch that, if and when that happens. Who will you support, wrexham or chester . 0bvious, not wrexham. Split loyalties. Interesting that they have decided it is going to be atv they have decided it is going to be a tv show. They will document the whole thing. Heres carol with a look at this mornings weather. It is looking misty. Good morning. Mistand it is looking misty. Good morning. Mist and fog as you can see from this picture in berkshire. Today we have a lot of cloud. Some of the fog will only lift into low cloud. We have a little bit of rain, showers in the forecast. It is mild if you are just stepping out. This front will clear the rain into the north sea. And then we have this which will produce showers drifting further east today. Starting with the mist and fog, some of it lifting into cloud. Clarity generally with limited sunshine, the best across the north east of scotland, where it has been a cold start. Scotland will not be as cold as yesterday. The temperature range, 1017. This as yesterday. The temperature range, 10 17. This evening and overnight we will see showers. A lot of cloud and mist and fog again. Under clear skies in north east scotland, temperatures will fall away. With the bulk of the uk, it will be a mild night. A mild start tomorrow with fewer showers through the day. Starting with mist and fog. Cloud breaking up from the south as we go through the course of the day with sunshine. Sunshine hanging on in north east scotland. This is coming our way later. Ranking. We will find out what this will do for us later. Right now, from the australian jungle to a castle in wales im a celebrity get me out of here is back on our screens next week but with a few changes to make it covid safe. This years series has been relocated to a ruined castle in conwy, but organisers have promised plenty of thrills and surprises for the contestants, who will be on the traditional diet of rice and beans. Whether the show is in wales or australia, this is im a celebrity get me out of here. It doesnt matter where the show is, its going to be horrendous. Snakes, spiders, creepy crawlies, rats, i absolutely hate them all. Whats the worst that could happen . Am i scared . No. That first moment, walking into camp, i will be so nervous. This is the one show i watched as a child and always wanted to do. This is like the dream come true. It has been a crazy, challenging year. I want to do something different, im up for the adventure and this is it. In that castle im going to fit right in. Tv critic and broadcaster scott bryan joins us now from east london. Good morning. When you saw the list, an interesting combination . An interesting combination. A few people you would not expect, like Victoria Derbyshire from the bbc news and jordan north and shane richie. Normally i find im a celebrity relies upon some us celebrity like a kardashian, who have tabloid intrigue. There is less of that this year, but understandably so, given the circumstances we are in, meaning International Travel is harder than it would normally be. I think people are intrigued mostly about how it will be, particularly relocating from australia to wales in november when it gets dark at 3 a5pm. From australia to wales in november when it gets dark at 3 45pm. You are right. Iam being when it gets dark at 3 45pm. You are right. I am being optimistic, when it gets dark at 3 45pm. You are right. Iam being optimistic, it when it gets dark at 3 45pm. You are right. I am being optimistic, it is likely after apm and also cold. So much will have to change. Yes, but i think the main elements, potentially having celebrities and making them have restricted rations and keeping them isolated from the outside world will be a consistent thing. It is not clear whether they will do the normal thing using animals as entertainment. That has had criticism in recent years and with it being located in the uk they would probably not want to be mixing in with that much in terms of it causing protest. Ithink in with that much in terms of it causing protest. I think it will be some elements of thrills and scares. There has been tabloid photographers taking photos of the set, trying to work out what clues will be pieced together. The fact they are able to pull it off, when wales has been in a circuit breaker, must have been a challenge, but it is important for itv to keep the show going. There have been challenges. Strictly, they have been challenges. Strictly, they have tried to be covid secure. No audience. No audience on im a celebrity, but they have to be strict. Anyone watching live programmes, anything that goes wrong or breaks restrictions, they will be in trouble . Yes. What was surprisingly quite nice about watching strictly, they have replaced the audience with members of the crew socially distance clapping together, which is surreal. There is understanding by viewers. 0ver there is understanding by viewers. Over the past year, all the channels have come up with guidelines so when the lockdown was announced, the culture secretary 0liver dowden said tv and Film Production can continue as long as there are covid secure procedures in place. It is important for the channels because they would not want to risk having cruise all participants having the coronavirus during the production because that would be a nightmare if the show has to be put on hiatus and they have to change it in any big way. The fact that there is not much else you could do but watch tv. There is a large captive audience for these shows, and i think itv is thankful im a celebrity is able to continue, andi im a celebrity is able to continue, and i think lots of people will be watching with the intrigue of how they will pull it off because of the circumstances and that will be a benefit to itv. Have they got back up in case somebody gets covid . Yes, there are reports of that. A lot of tabloids reporting it. Itv do not confirm it. That causes intrigue. There have been reports about a current participant having coronavirus right now but the line up has been confirmed. And everybody who has been signed up will participate. This is the normal thing. It is having those what will happen . Will it work . Just to drive people to watch it next sunday. have not seen the odds. Who is the favourite to win . I have not seen the odds but i would say, looking at the odds but i would say, looking at the line up, mo farah has interest online. Using online is a good litmus test. A lot of people will be looking out for shane ritchie, just because he is one of those characters. Jordan north, because he is very matter of fact and honest about how he has always been. 0ne pa rt about how he has always been. 0ne part of the vt said i do not like rats, i do not like cold, i do not like small spaces. You wonder, why are you in the show . That is what they can do. 100 , you can tell there is someone with a clipboard writing down the notes, spiders, small spaces. That is how it works. Thank you. We need it at the minute. Anything. Thank you. Im a celebrity. Get me out of here starts on sunday 15th november. The first polar bear cub to be born in the uk in 25 years has been moved from his home in scotland to a park in england. Hamish, who is now two and a half years old, has just started settling at his new home at doncasters Yorkshire Wildlife park, where there are already four polar bears for him to make friends with. Rhaya barton reports. Hamish has lived his life in the spotlight. He first captured hearts in 2017, when he became the first polar bear cub to be born in the uk in 25 years. His name was chosen through a public vote. Now, not so little at two and a half years old, he has finally moved from the Scottish Highlands to his new home in doncaster, after years of practising for the trip a seven hour journey by road. Come on, good boy, good boy. He has been trained to enter his travel crate for the past year, probably more, which is a very slow process. Tiny little baby steps. The Royal Zoological Society of scotland had always planned to move hamish to another zoo, once he was between two and three years old. That is the age a cub typically leaves its mother in the wild. Conservationists estimate there are less than 35,000 polar bears left worldwide. Keepers at the highland wildlife park are hopeful his departure will give parents victoria and arktos the space they need to bring more cubs into the world. Later this year, early next year, we do hope to pair victoria with arktos again. We will keep our fingers crossed for hamish, too. Now he is settling into his new surroundings, where he is enjoying his favourite treats hotdogs, salmon, and cod liver oil. And werejoined now by adam spence, a zookeeper at the Yorkshire Wildlife park. Good morning. Is hamish one of these behind you . The one who is stood up, that is hamish and he is next to his new mate, nobby. How is he getting on . Really well. Initially he had only just moved away from his mum and was shy but we are giving him access to see nobby. And they have a positive vocalisation for polar bear. I recently introduced them and it could not have gone better. recently introduced them and it could not have gone better. I did not catch which one was hamish. Hamish is at the front, sitting down. This is quite something, to move a polar bear. Has it gone 0k . We had a busy day. He arrived wednesday evening and on thursday we had to move two of them away to france. All a part of the breeding programme. Wednesday night we got hamish. Thursday morning, move two on and now we have the two bears now. I am sure on and now we have the two bears now. | am sure many on and now we have the two bears now. I am sure many viewers will be interested in the daily routine. What happens throughout the day . After i have done this, i will be cleaning, which is luxurious. Picking up from previous meals, and hiding food out, which is a mixture of red meat, fruit and nuts, seedss, fish. I will go out into one of the reserves. We have three. I will be heading out to put out food and toys. Toys such as traffic cones, barrels, anything novel they can throw around, chuck into the water, they love. How much do they eat each day . It is about eight kilos of red meat at the moment plus a mixture of scatter, but it varies seasonally. When it gets to spring, not hamish, because he is almost three. But sexually mature males go food because testosterone takes over and all they really want is girls rather than food. I am so glad i asked that question that leads nicely as we watch hamish coming down the hill. In terms of breeding in the future, what is the hope . There is an International Breeding programme for them. At the moment we only have males. That is important. 0ur moment we only have males. That is important. Our job really moment we only have males. That is important. 0urjob really is to take surplus males. Hamish came because, normally between two, two and a half is when mum wants rid of them, or another mail will chase him off to breed with that female, so we said we would have a Bachelor Programme and if they are required to go for breeding, they will go elsewhere, if not, they will stay. That is why the other two left because at their ages when they start to breed. They were required for a trip to france. They will stay there. It is a lovely place. And these will stay as friends, unless they are required. have learned more about them in the past five minutes than i have for a while. Adam, wonderfulto speak past five minutes than i have for a while. Adam, wonderful to speak to you. You are welcome. Hamish is gone inside that we can see nobby chilling out. Have a lovely day. I enjoyed that. I am off to eat eight kilos of red meat, i think am off to eat eight kilos of red meat, ithink the am off to eat eight kilos of red meat, i think the headlines are coming up. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. 0ur headlines today. Joe biden starts to plan for life as president tackling the coronavirus is top of his list. Donald trump heads back to the golf course. He refuses to concede, and renews his allegation that the election was stolen. The two and a half week coronavirus firebreak in wales ends, with new rules coming in to force. Use them or you could lose them. A warning to holiday makers whove been given a voucher for trips cancelled over covid. We put your questions to an expert. And well get more reaction to what was another significant weekend for Marcus Rashford and his campaign for Free School Meals. Good morning is a mild and foggy started the day, most of that will lift into low cloud with rain clearing from the east, showers coming from the west. We have got the lot and i will bring it to you ten minutes. Its monday the 9th of november. The us president elect, joe biden, has begun planning for his presidency and has said coronavirus will be his key priority when he officially takes over injanuary. Mr biden is expected to name a team of experts today who will draw up plans to tackle the virus in america. Meanwhile, donald trump is still refusing to accept the result of last weeks election. 0ur correspondent ben wright reports. Oh, no, not i i will survive. Though we have political differences, he wrote, i knowjoe biden to be a good man who has won his opportunity to lead and unify our country. Well, ijust had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with president elect trump. After winning four years ago, donald trump met the outgoing president , barack obama, at the white house within a week of election day, the cordial beginning of a transfer of power that continues through to the inauguration. At least, thats how its meant to work. It seems the work starts now, doesnt it . Good morning, louise, it and weve got some idea of what the president elect wants to do in the global stage, rejoining the World Health Organization in the paris climate accords, it will be a very different presidency to Donald Trumps but he has a huge immediate crisis to deal with right away. Yesterday, sunday, the us surpassed 10 million cases of covid, and it is clocking up 100,000 new infections per day, it is sweeping across the us at the moment and this isjoe bidens number one priority, he will announce on monday, today, this new task force to try to produce a blueprint for dealing with it but hes got a real problem because this isa hes got a real problem because this is a country of 50 separate states run by 50 different governors with very different views about the usefulness of mask wearing, about how the economy should be restricted if necessary to contain the virus and as president , he has to begin to get a and as president , he has to begin to geta grip and as president , he has to begin to get a grip on that from the centre and that is going to be difficult. But we will learn more about his cove benn act plans today. Meanwhile, donald trump continues to say nothing his covid plans today. Donald trump continues to say nothing publicly about joe today. Donald trump continues to say nothing publicly Aboutjoe Biden winning the election, he has not given him his approval or conceded. He has complained on twitter a lot, of course, about what he thinks is a rigged election which he has no evidence for it all. And of course, his Campaign Manager said on sunday that donald trump planned to hold a number of rallies around the country to try to raise money for a legal fighting fund to pursue lawsuits that clearly donald trump thinks might begin to chip away atjoe bidens result, here. But nobody thinks that is going to make a difference so we will see whether at some point in the next week or so donald trump accept the inevitable or whether he continues to hold out and not give joe or whether he continues to hold out and not givejoe biden his blessing. Thank you. So, what doesjoe bidens presidency mean for the us uk relationship . Joining us now with more on this is our Political Correspondent jonathan blake. Good morning. We know borisjohnson and joe biden have never met. I suppose the interesting thing will be when they speak on the phone for the first time. Yes, and that will certainly happen, if not today then in the coming days. They are not necessarily getting off on the strongest footing personally or politically. 0f strongest footing personally or politically. Of course, joe biden referred to borisjohnson as a physical and emotional clone of donald trump. Brexit is the centrepiece of borisjohnsons premiership and joe biden thinks thatis premiership and joe biden thinks that is a bad idea. But there is some Common Ground between the two, Climate Change is something that downing street is clearly pushing as an area where they hope to make progress, given that is also a priority ofjoe bidens and a trickier issue will be trade. The prospect of a uk us trade deal after the uk has fully left the eu at the end of the year. Talks had begun between the sides but with a change of administration, what does that mean for the process . The environment secretary on breakfast a little earlier on, george eustice, said it was too soon to tell whether talks would be able to pick up where they left off. It remains to be seen, really, how much priority the joe Biden Administration would place on trade more generally. I think he has signalled so far that his priority is to re engage with other multilateral agreements on things like the environment rather than trade. But it is too early to tell, really. We have done a lot of work to progress and start a trade negotiation and we obviously want that to resume. So there are other areas of opportunity perhaps for the uk and us from here on, some Common Ground in terms of the approach to russia, taking a hard line against Vladimir Putin and also with regards to iran, and that countrys Nuclear Ambitions, the two countries very much on the same page there. Jonathan, thank you. We will be talking to the former Prime Minister gordon brown about the relationship between the uk and the us in about 20 minutes time. The number of confirmed covid infections worldwide now stands at more than 50 million. Europe, which has been seeing a resurgence in cases, is once more the epicentre of the pandemic, athough the list of affected countries is topped by the United States, india and brazil. More than 1. 25 Million People have now died from the virus worldwide. The 17 day fire brea k lockdown ends in wales today. Pubs, bars and nonessential shops are some of the businesses that can reopen. The countrys health minister, labours vaughan gething, says it will be another fortnight before the full impact of the restrictions is known. Were joined now by our correspondent tomos morgan, who is in cardiff this morning. Good morning. Give us an idea of how people are feeling about a slight release to the restrictions in wales . Release to the restrictions in wales . Yes, this shop here behind me, relieved to be opening, this is their busiest period of the year, their busiest period of the year, the run up to christmas, so they are very thankful they are now reopening one of because shops in england like this have had to close over this period. We have come out of the firebreak, what does that mean . Places like this can reopen, nonessential shops and hospitality venues, cafe is, bars and restau ra nts, ca n venues, cafe is, bars and restaurants, can also open. People can meet outside in groups of four, if they are people who dont live together, and people can create an extended household or bubble with one other household so they can go into one of the house but it has to be the same one. If you go to a cafe, bar or restaurant with a group of Three Friends that you dont live with, you will have to socially distance and you will be asked for id when you go in as well. There are a number of changes this time around, changes that have been put in place, the Welsh Government say, to make sure they can regulate and keep the transmission rates of coronavirus low. There will not be a reversion back to a local lockdown restriction system, it will be a national set of rules that will hopefully be in place until christmas and hopefully by then the Welsh Government would like a unified approach for what happens over the festive period then. Thank you forjoining us. Virgin hyperloop a futuristic transport system has trialled its first everjourney with passengers in the nevada desert. It involves travelling in a pod through a tube at high speed. In the trial, two Company Staff travelled the 500 metre track in 15 seconds, reaching 107 miles per hour. Virgins ambition is to reach speeds of more than 1,000km per hour, which would mean going from gatwick to Heathrow Airport in four minutes. I like the way we have mixed the miles and kilometres. If that wasnt enough to confuse you imagine being able to do that, gatwick to heathrow, in four minutes, that would be revolutionary i could take that to work in the morning. Can you sort one through the pennines, please . Heres carol with a look at this mornings weather. It is looking really foggy, misty this morning. Indeed, good morning, everyone, we have mist and fog and a fair bit of cloud around generally, this is a picture sent in from bedford which gives you an idea. A lot of the fog will only lift into low cloud so we are looking at a mostly cloudy day today but mild, a mild start and a mild stay generally. We have got the tail end of some rain which will clear off into the north sea. Then we have got showers coming in from the west, drifting eastwards, not all of us will see them, some of us missing them altogether, for example across the north east of scotland, where it has been a cold start for you, you start with some sunshine and you will hang onto it through the day. For the rest of scotland, Northern Ireland and northern england, afair Northern Ireland and northern england, a fair bit of cloud and some showery outbreaks of rain. The same can be said as we sweep further south, the fog lifting into low cloud some showers, one or two of them heavy and potentially thundery as indicated by the yellows and greens. The temperatures range from 1017. Greens. The temperatures range from 10 17. Through this evening and overnight, continuing with a lot of cloud and some showers. Some clear skies across the north east of scotla nd skies across the north east of scotland means temperatures here will be lower and we will see a return to patchy mist and fog forming. It is going to be generally speaking a mild night. Tomorrow, there will still be some showers around. The fog will lift again through the course of the day with some sunshine breaking through in the afternoon. The temperature range tomorrow, up to about 15. Thank you, carol, it was foggy out there but be careful in parts of england this morning. The footballer Marcus Rashford, who has been campaigning forFree School Meals to be extended during the holidays in england, spoke to the Prime Minister over the phone on saturday. A new support package has now been announced. Sally has been following the story since the beginning and was with marcus when he took the call. I was, yes. What happened . Im going to tell you right now, tell you exactly what it means, important to get this right. After voting down the motion to extend Free School Meals in england over the holidays, the Prime Minister appeared to change his mind on saturday. He confirmed that the government would now provide extra funding for the most disadvantaged children and their families. Theyve committed to spending more than £a00 million on different schemes. An extra £170 million is going to be handed out to local councils. 80 of it has been earmarked to help provide food and cover bills. The biggest chunk of money is going to the holiday food and activities programme. Thats going to be expanded to cover the easter, summer and Christmas Holidays in 2021. Theres extra money too for Food Distribution charities. Theyre getting £16 million. And an increase in the healthy start scheme payments. These support pregnant women and people with Young Children on low incomes. Theyll getjust over an extra pound a week from next april. I was filming with Marcus Rashford when he got the phone call from borisjohnson on saturday. Afterwards, he said he was grateful to the government and that this was a big step forward. We asked for three things, and they managed to u turn on two and they are willing to sit down and discuss the third, so, it is pretty much close to a perfect day for me. I have been sort of excited to speak to him, really, because i want to let him know, like, on our half of things, like, it is never. We are not, like, against him. 0n the phone, he kept thanking me but then in the back of my mind, im like, it is the families that deserve the u turn, and i actually thanked him on behalf of the families because i know 100 they would have wanted to say thank you to him if they had the chance. It is really thin, while the world was watching a new president being elected in america, this vocal was happening here and it has been a big story we have followed for some time now story we have followed for some time now this phone call was happening. Boris johnson called Marcus Rashford as he arrived home after playing at goodison park on saturday and went through the whole thing, the explanation i havejust given you, he explained in the phone call. I think we have a picture we can use of Marcus Rashford on the phone to borisjohnson on saturday night. A lengthy phone call where i could hear Boris Johnson night. A lengthy phone call where i could hear borisjohnson explaining in detail what he was planning to do and Marcus Rashford listened and listened and listened and then asked lots of pertinent questions about when it was going to kick in. There we go, when is it going to kick in, who is it going to affect and also, you can see hes very engaged, he also said, actually, we want to keep talking and collaborate and if we could all Work Together, that would be great and that is something they agree to do by the end of the call. Sally, thank you for bringing us that. Were joined now by the childrens commissioner anne longfield, who has been a supporter of the campaign. What was your reaction to what has happened . Im really pleased, obviously. I was a big supporter of the Marcus Rashford campaign and looking at alternatives such as the Holiday Activity Programme as well. Soiam Holiday Activity Programme as well. So i am very pleased that those have come together. I was very worried about children who were going to be going hungry over the winter period. We know families are having tough times and they need the extra help. Soiam times and they need the extra help. So i am glad the government has stepped up and been bold in how it looks at this going forward. Of course, i would say that food poverty is a symptom of poverty, so we need to sort a long term plan, but this is positive. We heard Marcus Rashford talking about the families who will benefit from this. What difference does it make to people . It makes a huge difference. You have heard from families over the last few months have received vouchers, saying it has taken the worry out of their day to day lives about food. It means they are much more likely to be able to plan and actually help to be able to buy decent food. What Marcus Rashford has done is bring home to us that there are families in this country today who have empty cupboards. After the arguments we have had on the squabbles in parliament, the hope is that we can all agree that we have an issue with poverty in this country and there are children who, if we dont help them, will be going hungry. There was so much discussion about this. Is this a partial climb down or a u turn, what is it . To be fair, i think they were looking at the holiday and Activity Programme in itself. That is a positive scheme. But there does seem to have been confusion over whether the state should step in or not, and im pleased that there has now been leadership from the top that actually, it is the role of government to ensure that families have the support they need, especially during a pandemic. So i wa nt to especially during a pandemic. So i want to encourage the government to look further at that. We have a0 of 4 look further at that. We have a0 of a million children growing up in poverty in this country, a wealthy country. After the pandemic, we want to do better, we have to start with children. Speaking of the other things that need to be done, is that at the front of the governments mind as we talk . Well, two of the that Marcus Rashford referred to we re that Marcus Rashford referred to were ensuring that all of those children whose families are on universal credit get Free School Meals. At the moment, only half to, and its a very low cut off point. So that is something that needs attention. But also, there has been an uplift in universal credit of £20 an uplift in universal credit of £20 a week over the last few months. That is due to end in april and i wa nt to that is due to end in april and i want to urge government to look at that seriously and understand that keeping that in place will be vital forfamilies during keeping that in place will be vital for families during these difficult times. Two essential next steps, but also that long term plan. Times. Two essential next steps, but also that longterm plan. Anne longfield, childrens commissioner for england, thank you. Research for the bbc has revealed the impact coronavirus has had on people with disabilities. 60 of those who use social care said they had difficulty getting hold of essentials, including medication and in some cases even equipment to help them breathe. The government defended its record, saying its support has been inclusive. But the question now is, as well as the fear of the virus itself, to what extent will the pandemic damage disabled peoples rights and independence . Many events have had to be cancelled or scaled back this year, and remembrance sunday was no different. But, despite the lack of crowds and Large Services the nation still came together to pay their respects to the armed forces. But today, for the first time, it was closed off to the public. And while traditional ceremonies and marches are called off in scotland, first minister Nicola Sturgeon laid a wreath at edinburgh castle. Remembering the 31 crew members who made the supreme sacrifice when the ship was attacked and sunk, august 19aa, normandy. Preserving the memory of Fallen Soldiers is at the heart of remembrance sunday. Now, a new project is remembering the stories of british soldiers who served in india during world war two. One of the veterans involved is 97 year old lieutenant coloneljp cross, who served with the brigade of gurkhas 80 years ago and loved the asian culture so much, that he never came home. We can speak to him now from kathmandu along with historian bhanu ghalot. Great to talk to you on the programme. Tell us about the journey to india. What was it like when you first arrive and what made you stay . The point was that when i arrived, it was so strange getting to bombay, so different from anything i had seen before. The poverty, the heat and almost the degradation compared with what i had known made a Lasting Impact on me. The reason i never came home was, i was never posted home. I was told to stay out and do various jobs, home. I was told to stay out and do variousjobs, and home. I was told to stay out and do various jobs, and i home. I was told to stay out and do variousjobs, and i did them. Home. I was told to stay out and do various jobs, and i did them. And then decided to stay. Tell us what it was like working with the gurkhas. I never thought i would be good enough to serve with them, and therefore, i never volunteered to serve with them. But providence is strange. I was posted to them and i realised i had an uphilljob to get as good as them, but never better. And i suppose because i have a knack for languages, i speak nine asian languages, i loved thejob. It was ha rd languages, i loved thejob. It was hard work, but it was interesting. Every day was new, and then i lost my site. I was on a secret operation near the thai border. 0ver my site. I was on a secret operation near the thai border. Over 200 and two days, i average one click, food every six days. And i had to have the lens taken out of my eyes. The doctor said, hit your head and you are blind for life. That meant that the only people who could look after me if or when i went blind where the gurkhas here in nepal. I asked the king of nepal if i could stay, and i had the uniqueness of being the only foreigner ever allowed to be a landowner or house owner in this country. And now i am a citizen, so iam country. And now i am a citizen, so i am safe. What an incredible honour and an amazing story. I dont know whether you have been able to see remembrance sunday here in the uk, but its been a different affair this year obviously because of coronavirus. I wonder how you remember yourfallen coronavirus. I wonder how you remember your fallen comrades and friends . With sadness and i remember those very many people who served and got nothing for it, no pension, no gratuity, no medals, they are the ones i also remember. 0ne always has to go. There is no one who is spared but it is those who go before their time that i am sorry for, and yet, where they spared a worse fate than being killed in battle . No one will ever know. We can see your medals, there, as well, while we talk to you. You have been involved in this project, what is the one thing you wa nt project, what is the one thing you want young people to remember or know about the time you served . The point that i want people to remember is that every day counts. No day can be taken for granted. I have always worked on having a firm base, an alternative and a reserve be that in military terms or civilian terms, and the two things i have always wanted, good health and peace of mind. Yesterday, my morning walk was five hours and seven minutes, so ive got good enough health, peace of mind because at last, i managed to do of mind because at last, i managed todoa of mind because at last, i managed to do a zoom call properly with you you have done so well, five hours and seven minutes, that is more than and seven minutes, that is more than a morning walk for most what a pleasure to speak to you. And well done for the zoom, you did it brilliantly. My pleasure. Fantastic, lieutenant colonelj p cross, i feel like there was some real wisdom in there, what a remarkable man. You can hear more stories like this from the india remembers project, at big ideas. Org. Gordon brown, the former Prime Minister, on the way in the next few minutes. Police say theyll investigate the actions of the officer in the wider context of this incident. There was one arrest. Tens of thousands of londoners will see their real living wage increased from today to £10. 85 which is up by 10 pence an hour. Its paid voluntarily by hundreds of employers in london, and reflects a wage designed to meet everyday needs. Its over 20 higher than the National Minimum wage. The big news of the past week has undoubtedly been the us election. Well, london has a large American Expat Community whove followed every moment of the count and the victory of president elect, joe biden. We spoke to a few of them about the result, and as youd expect, the reaction was mixed. Kamala harris in the white house is just a really enormous thing and i feel like ive witnessed history. I am disappointed, because i think donald trump has done a lot of good in the past few years as the president. I was walking down a busy street and a bunch of people around me got the alert at the same time and, like, five of us were american. We just started celebrating in the middle of the street. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. Theres currently a good service on the tube. The a2 is slow into town from Dartford Heath to danson where the road is down to one lane. Further up the a2 in deptford temporary lights are up near the george and dragon traffic lights thats for repairs to a burst water main. And cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Now the weather with kate. Good morning. After a very mild weekend, it is unsurprisingly a mild start this monday morning. We do, however, have quite a bit of mist and fog and that is going to be quite stubborn and take its time to lift. We will see the mist and fog reforming. Low cloud around, but temperatures again very mild tonight, between 10 12 celsius. Similar conditions as we head into tuesday. Quite a lot of cloud around, but we are likely to see one or two brighter spells as we head through tuesday afternoon. Glimpses of sunshine. It does stay very mild this week both during the daytime and night time as well. You may be aware of a story over the weekend of two swans from north london falling in love. The woman that made it all happen and induced introduced this once to each other is speaking to Vanessa Feltz on bbc radio london in the next few minutes. All of that and a trip to the repair shop as we are joined byjay and kirsten. Can we have a cup of whatever xand has had, please . On its way. Borisjohnson has said he and joe biden have a shared belief in democracy, human rights, free speech and free trade saying there is more that unites that divides. The president elect has met every british Prime Minister in the last a0 years and were joined by one of them now the former labour Prime Minister, gordon brown. Good morning. Thank you for spending some time with us so tell us a bit about the president elect joe some time with us so tell us a bit about the president Electjoe Biden, how closely have you worked with him and what was he like . Very closely during the last financial recession. What we see with joe during the last financial recession. What we see Withjoe Biden is what you get. He is open and friendly. He is very respectful. He is very generous with people. Ronald reagan was called the greatest communicator. He is the greatest conciliator. I think he will be the person that brings america together because it is a very divided and dysfunctional country at the moment. I think he will also be the person that brings the World Community together because we have been lacking Global Leadership over the last couple of years. I think he is a great friend of the uk. He has been a friend and he wants to be a friend. Of course, he would prefer us to be more united with europe. He is determined that the good friday agreement is not upset. But he will wa nt to agreement is not upset. But he will want to work with britain on key issues and that is cooperation on health and the environment and getting a general world recovery under way and america is pivotal to that and he will be very important in the next three months. You touched on some of the key issues that i am sure our Prime Minister will be speaking to him about. He said brexit was a bad idea, and the internal markets bill will be high on the agenda as well. How do you think he will see those and what is the sort of resolution that can be found in terms of preserving that special relationship . Well, i think he is already speeding up negotiations on europe. If i were borisjohnson, i negotiations on europe. If i were Boris Johnson, i would negotiations on europe. If i were borisjohnson, i would recognise the writing is on the wall. He is not going to get an american trade deal u nless going to get an american trade deal unless he saves and does not disrupt the good friday agreement. We cant have a hard border between the north and south of ireland. I think Boris Johnsons internal markets bill makes that a possibility and i think we will see in the house of lords when they debate it today, joe bidens name coming up because people will say if you want to trade deal with the usa and you want to defend an open boat open border between north and south, youve got to get a negotiated trade deal with europe as quickly as possible and i suspect things will start moving in the next few days. Is that your suspicion that the internal markets bill will have to be shelved . think they will keep it on the statute book if they can get it through but i dont think it will be implemented because there is no way that britain can afford to fall out with the us and then the European Union and to become completely isolated. Boris Johnson Union and to become completely isolated. Borisjohnson has mis calculated on this and the sooner he gets out of this bind he has put himself in, the better. Joe biden can help him do that. Joe biden can help him do that. Joe biden is likely to visit britain, if the virus allows visits to take place, probably in the next six months, for the g7 and he is likely to visit for the cop26 conference in glasgow at the end of the year, he will want good relations with britain but they will depend on borisjohnson working closely britain but they will depend on Boris Johnson working closely with america on these particular issues, that worry american opinion, not least because joe that worry american opinion, not least becausejoe biden has got great irish roots and a great affinity for ireland. Those who watched the speech he made on saturday night will have seen that coronavirus is very high on the president elects agenda but he has also promised a lot when it comes to the environment which i know is something you have had great concern for in the last few years. It seems like we will see a huge change in us policy when it comes to that particular area. Yes, he is rejoining the paris agreement, so america will be back in the International Community to deal with Climate Change. He is committed what is called net carbon zero, carbon neutrality, by 2050, so is britain, europe, korea and japan, and china is now committed to doing it by 2060, retaining its status as a developing country that requires a special terms. But there is a consensus now about the need to go ahead and that is why borisjohnson, if he wants it to happen, can make cop26 in if he wants it to happen, can make c0 p26 in glasgow if he wants it to happen, can make cop26 in glasgow and e book changing moment, where all the countries come together with a plan to deal with the decarbonisation of the economy, it can create jobs because it can be a Green New Deal and i believe that europe, britain, america, could Work Together very closely on developing the policies that will decarbonise transport and power and everything else. These are very important steps to be taken now thatjoe biden is committed to, this environmental progress. In terms of the personal relationship between the Prime Minister and the president , we saw joe biden calling borisjohnson a trump clone, how essential is it, when that conversation happens and we understand it might take place today or in the coming days, that the Prime Minister and the president elect have to get on in terms of the future of that special relationship . Yes, i had a great relationship . Yes, i had a great relationship with barack 0bama and also with joe relationship with barack 0bama and also Withjoe Biden as his Vice President. We went to latin america together to get the argentinians and the brazilians and everyone else signed up to the Global Initiative in london in 2009. Joe biden has got a great affinity with people. He can feel the pain of others, not least because he has had these terrible tragedies in his life. We, too, have lost a daughter, he lost his daughter and his wife to a car accident and his son died only a couple of years ago. Joe biden is the kind of person who wants to work with people and understand other peoples problems, who wants to be a conciliator. I think whatever words have been said before, it really depends on what borisjohnson does now, the actions he takes. I think the sooner he withdraws from this threat to the good friday agreement, the better for the threat to the good friday agreement, the betterfor the relationship threat to the good friday agreement, the better for the relationship with america. In terms of what the Prime Minister has done, i know you have been following the Marcus Rashford campaign very closely, to end child food poverty, something you have spoken to us about before. What did you make of the governments change of approach, talking about phone calls, we understand borisjohnson had a long and detailed phone call with the premier League Football over the weekend. Yes, after Manchester Uniteds match, i think it was after the match had taken place. I think marcus feels it from the heart. He has seen what it is like to go hungry. He wants to do everything he can. His campaign is not over. He has welcomed what Boris Johnson does but you know, Child Poverty is a million children in this country today and it is going to get worse, even with the measures of yesterday, unless we do more. I look forward to working with marcus and other people to highlight that we cant take away universal credit edition of £20, you have got to do more to include people in school meals and youve got to do something about child benefit and i think marcus has been such a trailblazer on this, he has inspired large numbers of people to take action because he knows what it is like to because he knows what it is like to be poor. Gordon brown, thank you for your time. It is 8 a5am. The latest lockdown rules in england mean a ban on all but essential foreign travel until at least the beginning of december. That means more cancelled flights and holidays, with many customers being offered vouchers rather than refunds. But what are the rules around them . Nina is taking a look. That is the thing. Its been a year of disappointment when it comes to foreign travel. Now in england, travel including internationally is banned; with a few exceptions, for example work or for education. If you leave home to go abroad for a holiday, you could face a fine. Same in wales. In scotland and Northern Ireland youre being advised to carefully consider travel and must adhere to quarantine rules 0bviously, restrictions have had a huge impact on the foreign holiday industry. Over the summer, commercial flights were down 50 compared to last year. Lots of people who had their trips cancelled ended up with vouchers or credit notes rather than a cash refund. If that sounds familiar where do you stand . First, package holidays. The good news is if your trip was cancelled and you receive a refund credit note before 31st december, that will be protected by the government. So even if the travel company fails, you will get their money back. But a big caveat you must use the credit note 0r ask for a cash refund before the end of september next year or you will lose the money. What about if your flight was cancelled . Thats where you dont have the same protections, and your entitlement depends on who you booked with. Ryanair say you have 12 months to spend the voucher, and that it can be exchanged for cash at any Point British Airways say their vouchers are valid until april 2022, but once issued, it cannot be converted to a cash refund. While easyjet say their vouchers last 12 months, but will only be exchanged for cash in exceptional circumstances. So what should you if you already have a voucher or get offered one when your flight is cancelled . Alex neill is chief executive of resolver, which helps consumers make complaints. Lots of people will say its one thing being issued about trento next year or the year after, but what if i cant use it by that deadline it is one thing to be issued with a voucher, but what if i cant use it . I feel sorry for consumers in this area. If you have taken a voucher because you are trying to help the Airline Industry and now you have been looking in the terms and conditions, many will not have been aware that these vouchers have time limits and they are all different for each company. So if i had a voucher that expired at the end of march but i couldnt go on holiday by then, do i lose my cash . It does seem so. My advice would be to get on the phone to the airline if that date is coming up. I will try and extend it and ask them to be reasonable. Given that we are in this situation where we are not able to travel, its only fair that they would at least look at extending vouchers. And if you dont get your way with the company, you someone like resolver and complain and take it to our ombudsman. We have had a couple of messages from people who are vulnerable and do not feel co mforta ble are vulnerable and do not feel comfortable travelling. Where would they stand in terms of getting their cash back . Again, for me, this is a case we re cash back . Again, for me, this is a case were strictly speaking, there is no entitlement for them to get their money back and this is the problem with vouchers. There is no Legal Protection there. However, i would say it is reasonable for those people to write the companies and ask for a refund and if not, take it to an ombudsman. There is guidance from other regulators to say if you have a real reason, you should get your money back and the Airline Industry dont seem to be listening to that. So if you have legitimate reasons not to be travelling, keep pushing it. Finally, the big question many of us have written off this year. Looking ahead to next summer, what should we be looking out for when we book . For me, i would be looking at the different terms and conditions of the companies. If you get your flight cancelled, make sure you do ask for a refund. You are entitled to it. Otherwise, make sure you understand what will happen if you cant travel and if you have to pay fees to change the flights. Many thanks for talking to us. You can see why the travel companies are encouraging you to ta ke travel companies are encouraging you to take vouchers when you look at 6000 jobs gone at gatwick, 8000 with british airways. But if the trip is cancelled, that is your money and you can get it back, so dont take a voucher if you dont want to. Lots of good advice, thank you. If you are watching our interview with gordon brown, there was a bit of fogginess in the background. Heres carol with a look at this mornings weather. Thats right, foggy in fife this morning, but go to the other coastline in the west and fort william, and we have got sunny skies. But if you look at east yorkshire, it is again under some fog. Theres quite a bit of fargo around and some of it will lift into low cloud. Today will be fairly cloudy, but mild and we still have rain in the forecast. But this next front is producing showery outbreaks of rain and it will be pushing southwards and eats words for the rest of the day. It has been a cold start in scotland under clear skies, but you will hang onto the sunshine as we go through the day. This evening, we continue with some showers, one or two of them likely to be heavy. Still a fair bit of cloud around. Clear skies across the north east of scotland means for you, it will be cold. But generally speaking, we are looking at a mild night. The weatherfront tomorrow is a fairly weak affair. That means that tomorrow, although we start off cloudy with some fog, it should move through the day and we will see the cloud break up. But temperature tomorrow are down on today. Thank you very much. As the nhs continues to juggle the pressures of the pandemic alongside routine operations, the bbcs Hospital Programme has gone behind the scenes to document the unheard human stories behind the headlines. In a new series airing tonight, the team follow the work of medics at londons royal free trust as they try to reopen services that have been suspended. Lets take a look. Chase farm in enfield is one of the royal free londons three hospitals. Do you want to do me . Yes. Any changes . No. Colorectal surgeon Daren Francis is here to meet one of his highest priority cancer patients, 50 year old judy. Come in. Hello. Hello, nice to meet you. Daren . Daren. I would shake your hand but we are not allowed to, yeah, we dont do that any more. So we spoke on the phone, didnt we . We did. So the plan is for me to have a look at the bowel and to see what part of the bowel i can spare. 0h. 0k . As in, i plan to remove all of it with the tumour here, coming round to the tumour here. At the moment, my priority is your safety, and getting the tumours out. Judy first had bowel cancer 11 years ago. Injuly, she was told the cancer had returned. I had a bad day last week when i finalised my will, just in case, finalised my will and wrote a letter for my son. It was a hard letter to write, just that i really loved him and if something did happen to me, he would be really sad but he cant be sad for ever because this worlds got loads of lovely things to offer, and he needs to put it to one side and get on with his life. Gosh, difficult watching some of that. Were joined now byjudy nichol and her surgeon dr Daren Francis, who we just watched in that clip. Judy, i will come to you in a minute, but lets speak to daren first. It was interesting seeing how all of you in the nhs are having to juggle all of you in the nhs are having to juggle coronavirus along with long term patients who need treatment. Give us an idea of how difficult that has been . Its been a huge challenge for everyone at the royal free london. Huge challenge for everyone at the royalfree london. Difficult in the first phase. As you can imagine, it was unprecedented. There had to be a huge coming together of all the different aspects of the team to allow us to survive and find a way to get through that first big spike. And then moving on, we have had to learn how to cope with a potential second spike and how to get infrastructure to allow us to continue work and carry out our urgent and routine operations like before. Judy, how are you today . Yes, i feel much better now. I had my operation eight weeks ago today andl my operation eight weeks ago today and i am feeling good. Judy, you we re and i am feeling good. Judy, you were obviously talking about this on the telly so its ok for us to mention this. There are people like judy whose treatment is affected by what is going on, daren. That makes it tough for you and for them. What is going on, daren. That makes it tough for you and for themm what is going on, daren. That makes it tough for you and for them. It is tough all round and its a challenge. But we have been able to get together and prioritise patients who needs surgery urgently. They are getting their operations. And those who it will not be detrimental to delay their surgery, they will get their surgery, but we reassure them all the time that there will not be any detriment to their outcome with the delay. So we have restratified all our patients. Daren, i am sorry to interrupt andjump all our patients. Daren, i am sorry to interrupt and jump in, but i wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you very much that i got my operation when i did. I hadnt realised that it might not have gone ahead on that day and i am eternally grateful that it did and i wanted to say thank you. Judy, youre absolutely right. What becomes clear in this documentary is how hard people are fighting on your behalf, doesnt it . I know. If i people are fighting on your behalf, doesnt it . I know. If hadnt taken doesnt it . I know. If hadnt ta ken part doesnt it . I know. If hadnt taken part in this programme, i dont think i would have realised what people were doing behind the scenes for me. Its easy to be complacent, and i just scenes for me. Its easy to be complacent, and ijust wanted daren and my other surgeon to know how grateful i am. And my other surgeon to know how gratefuli am. That and my other surgeon to know how grateful i am. That really comes across watching the programme. I wonder what it was like for you, having the cameras around . Did you get used to them . It was a bit weird. I get used to them . It was a bit weird. Lam normally get used to them . It was a bit weird. I am normally quite shy, not an open and gregarious person usually. So it was a bit weird, although the team became like surrogate friends. As someone who was not able to have friends and family visit me in hospital because of covid, it was nice to see people who were not medical staff. And the reason why i agreed to do this documentary was, if one person has weird symptoms and they end up going to the doctor about it and it helps them, it was worth doing. That is an important message, daren, for anybody watching. Treatments still happen. Absolutely. The nhs is open for business. We have found a way to get through the problems and we are up get through the problems and we are up and running. Things are slightly different, how they were before, but we are managing. Daren, thank you for thejob you we are managing. Daren, thank you for the job you and your colleagues are doing in awful circumstances. And judy, lovely to speak to you. Thankfully, you are doing well. I know you are a keen runner, and hopefully you can get back running in the future. I hope so. Thank you tojudy in the future. I hope so. Thank you to judy and daren. In the future. I hope so. Thank you tojudy and daren. Hospital games tonight on bbc two at nine oclock. Its a fascinating insight into the workings of our incredible nhs.
