Victory, making it the first in the world cup since 1930. Thats amazing. Live from cnn. We want to welcome our viewers here in the United States with much, much, more. Cnn starts right now. At 5 00 a. M. Here on the u. S. East coast. We start with scrambling to reunite 3,000 Migrant Children with their families according to court records. Friday was the deadline. They wanted to make sure every child had a way and warn that tuesdays deadline will be trickier. They must unify every child and by july 26, every child must be reunited. They are begging the courts for more time. Cnn nick wattts has details. Reporter the federal government will make a key effort to reunite children intrait separated at the border. By tuesday the government was supposed to have reunited all children under five with their parents West Virginia we heard in san diego is there are approximately 101 of those kids. 46 parents have been identified and they are in i. C. E. Custody. That reunification, apparently, not a problem. The issue is 19 parents have been released in this country. 19 have been deported. Tracking them down will take more time. There were two other deadlines imposed. The first, by friday, all kids under five were to have spoken by phone. The government claims that has happened. There is another deadline. That is july 26th. By that darkt all minors under five, over five, are to be reunited with their parents. They barely even mentionment that what they are trying to do is deal with the judge to Work Together to get those Children Reunited with their parents as quickly as possible. Nick, chaumpg. Lets be clear now, the u. S. Government is not reunited these families on its own. It was directed to do so by a judge after they blocked the Trump Administrations practice of separating families at the u. S. Border and the aclu is not the only agency. Another offers services to immigrants and refugees. Nick valencia spoke to the executive director about the challenges theyre facing. They really have been hurdles all along the way. When we get information, we have to call out to detention center, all have different protocols, whether they will confirm or deny, there are Detention Centers hanging up on us once we call them. Once we have been able to pay their bonds, yesterday i went to immigration to pay five bonds, there are five women that should be free right now. We were rejected because we didnt have bus tickets and airplane tickets. Reporter is that standard procedure . No, its new to us as well him that has been ironed out and we hope to pay those bonds today. These are examples of the little hurdles, the little push backs making it a difficult logistics. Criminal rights advocates are criticizing one agency. That agency is the u. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also known as i. C. E. I. C. E. Has been the target of public outrage for enforcing the Trump Administration zero policy. Some say that agency should be abollished. Vice president of the occupation mike pence says he wont let that happen. Listen. While i stands buffer today at a time when some people are actually coming for the abolition of i. C. E. , in this white house, let me be clear, we are with you 100 , and as the president said last night, we will always stand proudly with the brave heroes of i. C. E. And our border patrol. But i. C. E. s critics say they are looking for a deeper cultural exchange. Democrats will not who have said this have not said abolish i. C. E. And do nothing. What we said is have a new agency that has principles and values more consistent with what the American People believe, that means not ripping kids and babies away from their parents. I. C. E. Was a new agency created after 9 11 to essentially go after terrorists. Theyve gone far away from that mission. We need to make sure the new i. C. E. Director curbs i. C. E. s culture so they are in line with original missions and what americans expect i. C. E. To do. To the russia investigation, President Trumps attorneys say if special Counsel Robert Mueller wants to sit down, have an interview with the president , hes going to have to meet two conditions. One of those conditions, muellers team must have evidence of the president committing a crime and they must prove the president s testimony is necessary to close out the russia investigation. Trumps attorney admits the New York Times admits to the times there is not much of a chance mueller would agree to those demands. In the meantime, investigators are connecting the dots between Paul Manaforts bank trial and they say the former Campaign Chairman was given some 16 million in loans, who imthe banker who approved those loans was seeking a role in the trump campaign. Lets talk about it all at a professor leave in our london bureau. I want to go ahead and start with a topic we started naj ibib. A lot at stake, lets listen to mr. Trump sum it up through his base in a binary argument. Democrats want open borders, which means lots of crime. We want tough, strong, powerful lawyers. We will protect i. C. E. We protect i. C. E. They protect us. We protect them. Najib a moment ago, you heard the Vice President defending i. C. E. Against some democrats who said theyd like to see it abolished. Is this a winning argument for President Trump heading into november . Thats a good question. I think he is planting the American Flag in the activities and the agency elielites. I think he is trying to do the same thing with i. C. E. With the protests. I think he is drawing a line f. You stand on this line, you stand for me, america, sort of protect and secure and these are the brave heroes who are fighting for that to keep us secure. He is basically saying on that basis, do whatever you like pretty much to undocumented immigrants and their children. He said if you dont, therefore, support us, you are against all the enemies of the United States and these could be terrorists and gangsters from ms13 and he is drawing a line there saying you are with me or against me. Whether that works . Im not sure. They have turned against the trump line on this particular policy. It is an interesting argument. People have heard the sounds of children wailing for their mother and for their fathers. Look, the government is struggling to reunite families with their children. What do you make of how they are going about this process and also the Optics Energy of their inability to give us any solid numbers . What is happening . Well, as your report said, it was the aclu that challenged that child separation policy. This was forced on the administration and the administration has shown it is more enthusiastic about enforcing harsh laws, dehumanizing parents that are documented. They say its a Security Threat as a potential terrorist and so on. They dont care too much about their human rights and all the expo exposes that have shown what is going on. The optics are terrible, terrible pr for the Trump Administration. Theyre trying to recover that ground. The thing is the i. C. E. Is being militarized even more. I read recently, theyve ordered the Assault Rifle which is a weapon of choice of the u. S. Marine core. Our former cia advisers on techniques used against terrorists and dna testing of parents to see who their children might be. So actually i think it looks like the Trump Administration is not going to supply too easily with any court orders. They have decide a mar policy and they will see it through as pretty much harshly as possible. They see it as galvanizinging their voters ahead of midterms, they have planted the gops flag right in that territory. Certainly from a journalists perspective, we will get numbers to understand whats going on. I want to pivot from the investigation. President trumps attorney suggests mr. Mueller needs to prove mr. Trump committed a crime. What is it in your estimation they will go for a deal like tha that . Really, its so difficult to know the cat and mouse game. To my mind mueller wont consider a deal like. That he is following all kind of inquiry. Anybody that he comes across that he wants to question has the right to do soch i think what trump is doing now, especially since the employment of Rudy Guiliani to the legal team, he is going on the offensive. I think he is playing a game of public penalties mobilization, plant my flag. So i. C. E. On one side, on this question, he is planting another flag him this is the deep state out to get me, the leader of the faith the champion of the people there to reassert America First abroad and put while male americans right in charge and theyre out to get me. They never wanted me in the first place, im going to rally the people around the flag to defend my presidency as in the rights of the ordinary people. Thats what he will do. I doubt anybody can accept that. It is a binary argue. It speaks to a divide mesh. We have to see how this plays out. Well stay in touch with you. Now to the u. S. Secretary of state, mike pompeo, due to tokyo soon to brief japanese and south korean officials on his third trip to pyongyang. He met with officials, is there more clarity . Also the issue of returning the remains of u. S. Troops killed in the korean war, our Andrew Stevens is live in seoul, south korea. An trurk Holding Meetings is one thing, is there any indication pompeo made headway here . Reporter well, we cant speak to the headway pompeo may or may not have made at this stage, the delegation isnt talk u talking about what they achieved. They put the issues on the table. Complete denuclearization, security aspoourns shurnss, what will they offer in return for denuclearizing and also the returns of the remains of u. S. Servicemen killed during korean war. They were all on the table according to a spokesperson. Mr. Pompeo was firm in what he wanted to get. At this teenage, all they say is he was very firm in his conversations. So we now wait for mr. Pompeo to land in tokyo. He has left after meetings with come yong chul. They met fried and again this morning we dont know if he went on to meet kim jongun its the third time he has visited and met him previous two times. So we dont know whether that meeting took place today. The assumption was there was going to be one. It certainly would be a unusual if he didnt. It would raise questions so meek pompeo will be meeting with his counterparts in japan and south korea and tokyo. Certainly the optics, very important here. Of course, well continue to find out what happened there. Andrew stevens ive for us in seoul, south korea, thank you for your reporting today.
