Cohen, flynn, Paul Manafort, have revealed they were in contact with administration and Campaign Members the whole way in each of what they did to breck the law. We have a man who knows white house politics from the inside and he has s here to make the case that sent his New York Times oped speeding around the internet. Then we have another stunner tonight. A russian spy has flipped. What does she know about russias efforts to hurt america . And why did the president call on her, maria butina, at one of his Campaign Events . Well lay out what we know and get deep interthat. And anyone want to be chief of staff . The president is supposedly on fire once again because pences chief of staff nick ayers passed on the job. The latest on the new list to replace general john kelly but the real story is how many want to avoid that job and why. Its monday, lets get after it. You cant keep up with the news, its impossible to plan this show. A few minutes ago a letter likes of which i have never seen before came out from 44 former senators, 32 democrats, 10 republicans, two inspects. Im going to read you this letter in full. Its not the biggest headline of the day but it reflects on what were going to deal with now and i think you should hear in the full, ill read it to you, well have people discuss it but i want you to process it for yourself. Now they are reaching out because of what we saw in the Mueller Probe and whey they anticipate coming ahead which obviously our president is doing tonight as well. Redactions are a clue, it means theres more, a continuation but also we read between those lines and we see that the president s knowledge, that people around him knowing what about those who were breaking the law were doing, will be a big deal and it certainly is for democrats. His stress level is rising, so is theirs, to be frank with you. They have a big calculation to make. Were hearing from a source close to the president that he is expressing concern about impeachment after the new congress is sworn in next month and we know that the democrats are wrestling with how much oversight to do early on. Big developments. We have a former white House Counsel bob bauer, hes here to break this down. Bob, thank you for being here. I read your New York Times oped, i had known who you were and followed you in the past and that was going to be the show tonig tonight. Little did we know there would be so much context to have this conversation so the headline of the president being worried, do you believe he has good worry or better reason than hes had up to now to worry the democrats could make a move on him . He has a continuing worry and i think a mounting worry and i want to say its a worry that wouldnt be grounded, i dont think, rationally in the democrats doing whatever is politically expedient. Its because his behavior is bringing him squarely within the law and precedents that would in effect point in the direction of a impeachment inquiry. Make the case. Im going to test the case. Obstruction of justice is obviously where you put your cross hairs in your oped. Its not a topic we discuss much beyond his actions about flynn and comey. Make your case point by point. Whats the first big point of why this is a legitimate case for the department of justice to look at on behalf of the president . Lets take for example the sentencing memo filed in the cohen case. There we find out Michael Cohen circulated within the white house its not identified with whom, the testimony he was preparing to give to congress. That testimony included statements he was going to make about the hotel project. When negotiations when the russians took place and when they ended and he was eager to show to state that those negotiations ended before the active face of the Republican Primary Campaign in 2016. That was not true. That was part of his written statement. Prosecutors say this was premeditated testimony, it was circulated within the white house. Its inconceivable that white house staff, knowing what the president s personal lawyer was going to say about one of his business deals didnt let him know so the president it seems without abextraordina without an extraordinary explanation to the contrary, that Michael Cohen was going to go to the congress and lie. Respect for you picking up on what few did in the sentencing memo. It was the last point they made that cohen had been helpful on which was describing the circumstances around which he gave the congressional testimony. Many people looked over it because it wasnt splashy. You seize on it and i understand why. However, here would be the counter. Prove i knew if im the president. Cant prove it, you cant talk to my lawyers, you talked to dowd, dowds lawyers says he didnt expose me to criminality so he must not have said what youre saying right now otherwise theyd be lying lefts assume dowds lawyer is acting in good faith so you cant show that i knew. Even if i did know, thats not a crime and its not obstruction of justice for me to know about whats going on. You have to show i engineered the same. Well, let me begin by saying we always assume weve had the last word from mr. Mueller and his team and the team in the Southern District always surprise us so theres still facts to emerge about who received the testimony and who within the white house was in receipt of information about mr. Cohens tension to lie. But now lets take this to constitutional precedence. When Richard Nixon was impeached, he was impeached for lying publicly about the investigation into watergate and whether one occurred. He was impeached for lying about the activities of his campaign to try to win the election in 1972, his reelection in 1972. Now if donald trump knew Michael Cohen was about to lie on a business deal he was directly involved in, in fact, mr. Cohen was operating on behalf of mr. Trump in negotiating that deal and he took no action to stop him from lying, then it seems hes implicated in what is clearly an impeachable offense. Whether in fact all the facts taken together rise to the level of an action for which the president would be impeached and for which the president would convict him remains to be seen but on the face of it we have it, i would add one more point. The president knew Michael Cohen was going to lie because Michael Cohen pub prlicly previewed his testimony before he gave it and he was clear the business negotiation ended before the primaries and he knew that was not true. He said the reason he did tell that lie was to spare the president public embarrassment and to spare the president having to account for a lie the president told himself during the campaign. And to do something which sounded clumsy at the time which was well, i was reading the reports, i was still close and in contact, said Michael Cohen, and i was trying to coordinate my story so as to not mess up with the narrative coming out of the white house. That was suggestive of something, he had more than a gut of watch mig show and reading the papers. Ing my show reading the papers. Then you have flynn and the 18 days of when the others were told and acted on it and the president never exposed his criminality as a reason for getting rid of him and you have Paul Manafort lying about having been in contact with Administration Campaign officials about what he was doing and that makes you think who knew what and when. Fair point, i dont want to waste your mind on that when we have more facts. Many maria butina, the russian spy. Its rare for a russian spy to turn. I dont know how to read the sbreg here. Do you believe the information shes now cooperating with to help herself against her boyfriend is about just her own efforts or do you think theres a chance this russian invasion doing could have some type of nexus with whats going on in the larger probe . It seems like it would have that nexus. I think what this case demonstrates is the different way but mueller isnt doing the investigating. That is correct and what way it winds up feeding into the Mueller Investigation or a house proceeding is still not known. What it does demonstrate, however, is the wide range of russian efforts to influece the outcome of the election and Public Policy and what is striking about this episode taken together with the others is no matter how much evidence mounts about the contacts russians were having with the campaign, with policy makers, the unprecedented cyber intervention that they made into the campaign, the president has consistently told the public in tweet after tweet, Public Statement after Public Statement nothing like that happened and that he was more inclined to believe the president of russia than he was his intelligence services. Counselor, lets let people be reminded by what the president said. I want to continue the politics of sanctions that are damaging of both economy or you have any other ideas . I believe i would get along very nicely with putin, okay . And i mean where we have the strength, i dont think you need sanctions. I think we would get along very, very well. I really believe that. I didnt set that up right. That was an instructive sound because that was the thincandidate now president obviously answering a question and calling on maria butina the russian spy in 2015, she asked a question about sanctions. Now so people understand why this is curious, who the hel slrl is butina and why did he call on her . She infiltrated through conservative groups in the nra. Thats how she found this boyfriend. Hes a political consultant. Why is she asking about sanctions . Sanctions has been relevant with flynn and the ougs russian plant they put in the meeting with the president s son and Paul Manafort and his soninlaw and others in trump tower. Thats the part that makes it more curious. And i wouldnt rule out also the business that the kremlin delegation brought to trump tower in june of 2016, they were also eager to talk about that policy so this was a concerted effort from a number of directions, some of it involved the campaign, some involved the republican influence industry but as far as we know unprecedented and i dont think its fair to assume weve heard the last fact. And as mueller puts more meat on the bones, thats only one course of the male because if this is going to proceed about a political accountability context, then youll get to the oversight hearings and the frustration for the American People will be the redundancy, its just going to pour into a new process of political accountability thats why people with your experience and mind is so valuable. Counselor, please come back and lets test what it could and could not mean. Thank you, bob bauer. Thank you. In the midst of this, the president is concerned, democrats are try fog figure out what to do, mueller keeps putting more fuel for the fires of anticipation about who knew what and when and try did they keep lying about russia. Why do we have 16 associates of this president having had contact with russian difference players before and during and after the election . Why do they lie . In the midst of this comes the letter the likes of which ive never seen. 44 former senators, republican, democrat, independent, to their colleagues in the senate laying out concerns that are chilling and i dont like that tv word but it applies here. I want to read it to you in full and well process what it means next. Youre made of trillions of cells. They Work Together doing important stuff. The hitch . Like you, your cells get hungry. Feed them. With centrumĀ® micronutrients. Restoring your awesome. Daily. Feed your cells with centrumĀ® micronutrients today. From capital one. Nd i switched to the spark cash card feed your cells with i earn unlimited 2 cash back on everything i buy. And last year, i earned 36,000 in cash back. With the new iphone xr . yeah iphone xr included. For 40 bucks . that is big. All right. So this letter that im about to read you just came out at 8 30 p. M. The Washington Post published it. Its from 44 former u. S. Senators, mostly democrats, i think 32, but 10 republicans, two independents. And theyre all together with one voice warning the Current Senate of what they are about to confront as the Mueller Investigation draws to a close. Here it is in its entirety. Dear senate colleagues, as former members of the u. S. Senate, democrats and republicans, its our shared view that were entering a dangerous period and we feel an obligation to speak up about serious challenges to the rule of law, the constitution, our governing institutions, and our National Security. We are on the eve of the conclusion of special counsel robert s. Mueller iiis investigation and the houses commencement of investigations of the president and his administration. Remember that line. The likely convergence of these two events will occur at a time when simmering regional conflicts and global power confrontations continue to threaten our security, economy, and geopolitical stability. Its a time, like other critical junctures in our history, when our nation must engage at every level with strategic precision and the hand of both the president and the senate. We are at an Inflection Point in which the foundational principles of our democracy and our National Security interests are at stake. And the rule of law and the ability of our institutions to function freely and independently must be upheld. During our service in the senate, at times we were allies, at other times opponents but never enemies. We all took an oath swearing allegiance to the constitution. Whatever united or divided us, we did not veer from our unwaivering and shared commitment to placing our country democracy and National Interest above all else. All other critical moments in our history when constitutional crises have threatened our foundations it has been the senate that has has stood in defense of our democracy. Today is once again such a time. Regardless of party affiliation, ideological leanings or geography, as former members of this body we urge current and future senators to be steadfast and zealous guardians of our democracy by ensuring partisanship or selfinterest not replace National Interest. And if you look at the names that sign this, youll see a lot of names that have loomed large in our nations history. I have never seen a letter like this and we have never had a time like this. What will these words mean to the men and women working in the senate right now . Were going to take this up in our great debate ahead. My true love gave to me five golden. Six golden rings. Seven golden rings take your razor, yup. Up and down, never side to side, shaquem, you got it . Come on stay focused. Hard work baby, it gonna pay off. Who doesni do. Ve a deal . Check out the united explorer card. Savin on this savin on this savin in here. Rewarded learn more at the explorer card dot com. Theres no place likargh e im trying. Yippiekiyay. Mom. 44 former senators signed a letter tonight saying that our country is in a constitutional crisis and that the senate must stand in defense of democracy. It was a wakeup call, theres no other way to read it. It was people from the past grabbing by the collar those in the job currently and saying, hey, wake up, dont just sit on the sidelines and watch things happen, you were elected to lead and the time is now. A source close to the president tells cnn trump thinks impeachment is, quote, a real possibility. Hes right. Now he feels confident about his chances in the senate because, remember, impeachment in the house, removal in the senate and you need twothirds and would you have enough republicans even come close to approaching 67 votes. . What would it take to get that kind of consensus and thats a word that even nancy pelosi, the big bad waolf of the left when asked about impeachment by me she said slow down, we dont know what the American People want, lets see what the facts are. It would have to be because it was an echo of their desire. Lets debate. Jennifer granholm and rick santorum. Rick an especially valued guest as a former u. S. Senator. You were not asked to sign on to this letter but would you have . No. But i think it tells you something that i wasnt asked to sign on to this letter. If you look at the 10 republicans who signed on the letter, all very good people, friends of mine but they are not i would say conservative republicans or supporters of the president so thats number one. Number two, the fact that they didnt reach out beyond a group of folks who are antitrump gives you more perspective on this. And the other thing what does this letter say . It looks like a letter that maybe was put together or the idea was put together to call on the senate to go after trump or the do something but it looks like a letter written by committee. They couldnt come up with anything other than stand for god and country but it says nothing so i dont know really what this is about. Is it a missive to say this is a wink and a nod vote for impeachment when there isnt i think any realistic possibility that that will occur in the next two years . I have no idea what the letter is all about. I tell you what, you tell al lam simpson hes not a conservative, you better say it with your hands up. I voted against alan simpson in favorite of trent lott because i didnt think he was a conservative. So yeah ill say it to his face and he said similar things to mine. If he doesnt think youre a conservative you have to check your definitions. On other issues. I didnt take it the way the senator the former senator does i took it as this matters youll be called on, you should be ready. I didnt take it as an impetus letter. I read the letter in full because id never seen one like it before. Any time you have two parties in this town actually agreeing on language for something, its a miracle. In this regard i think the most important part of this letter is that we are about country and not party and whatever that means. They dont know what Robert Mueller is going to find. Im sure they are saying and in the language it says stands up for the rule of law. Presumably embedded is an understanding to allow Robert Mueller histto continue his investigation unimpede bud i long for the days where we have people coming together and say we are americans, we are united in this, we stand together against our adversaries. Rick, i dont know why youre so anti this letter. What bothers you . What are they saying that you believe is decidedly against the president . I guess think point is theres nothing in the letter that raises concerns because as i said it doesnt say anything but the fact that its sent says something. The fact that its sent at this point in time says something so to me it just smacks of trying to cast a pall on the senate that somehow or another theyre not acting in the best interest of the country because i dont think thats true. Lets look at it differently. I think you see this as a manifesto, i dont. But thats why we have different voices on the show. I think this is about something very true which is that you cannot sit idly by in times like this as if whats going on with the probe doesnt affect you. Did you see lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, in the house and senate, when they get asked about this stuff, if theyre key players on committees, its different, they here in the game, but they are looking to stay out of it. The house and Senate Leaderships have said the Mueller Investigation will continue. Theyre not sitting idly by. Theyve sent strong words to the president , leaf bob mueller alone, let him finish his job. Except theyre not passing legislation. On saudi arabia, theyre not sitting idly by dont conflate saudi arabia with this stuff. I understand what theyre doing on saudi arabia. Well see what they do. They triggered magnitsky, they won an investigation, well see where it goes but mcconnell said no vote needed. There isnt a vote needed. Mueller is still doing his job. No one is impeding. Outside the d. C. Beltway thinking. The idea that you dont pass legislation to protect something because you havent been hurt yet is the stupidest rationale for noncriminality ive ever heard. You dont do what Mitch Mcconnell said which is lets wait for the president to do something to mueller then well act. Too late. Thats what he said and thats nonsense. Theres a question of whether its constitutional. Theres no question. Hed veto the law. Whats the point. Theres no question. The president has the authority to fire bob mueller, the senate notwithstanding and the president does not have the ability to fire bob mueller. You should know that. He would have to do it indirectly by going after the person in charge. He cannot fire bob mueller. Thats the saturday night massacre. He can direct fire someone to fire bob mueller. Its a big difference. The point is its not the senator job the letter is a call, jennifer to not be pass i have. That when people ask you what things mean dont say its hard to know, i dont know. Well have to wait and see because you wont have time once this report comes out, you have to be ready to defend things and make statements of intention. Im not saying remove the president. I dont know how that happens on the facts as we understand them but you have to be ready to lead so dont sit by. There is an argument, chris, too, i know this was directed at the senate from former senators but theres a story out today that the president is worried about what is going to happen in the house and discussion. With good reason. Theyre doing a lot of saber rattling. This letter could be an indication to make sure the house allows mueller to do his job as well. You dont want to see parallel investigations. If the house starts to do an impeachment proceeding, calling witness which is interferes with a parallel track mueller is on that would muck things up. What happens if it happens after it ends, jennifer. I think challenge is mueller ends, theres a long report written, theres a ton in there, its embarrassing and exclusive, it shows people doing reckless things, showing they were open for business and suggestion, a dozen of them close to the president doing these kinds of things, not crimes. What do you do with that information . If you start a new rounds of oversight and committees over here and there all looking at the same stuff we just read about, is that good for your Party Heading into 2020 . Well, mueller has already identified a couple of crimes and we know he has more underneath what we saw filed on friday. Not against the president. Well, i think yes, individual number 1 is implicated so the president may be implicated in climbs. At least two that were identified on friday and others. I would say this, i think what mueller we dont know who what his report will say but if the report says anything about how russia has infiltrateed knew Maria Butinas plea today, she was using the nra as a means to get into the republican party. This is instructive for us. When the russians are coming and infiltrating organizations that are political organizations in order to influence people, that is instructive for us so those things regardless of what muellers report has, those are worthy of hearings if for nothing else than to say we have to be on guard as a nation because our democracy is in peril. No question, everybody should be on the same page and hopefully thats what this letter invites, rick. I hope youre wrong in terms of how people read it. I hope its more of that be aware, remember why youre there and make sure that comes first before anything else. Appreciate your take. Bipartisanship is a good things sometimes. Dont disagree that. Its the first time ive heard you agree. Did rick just agree with me on that . Again on sunday, you agreed with me so there we go. Two days in a row. Then it becomes a fight with who agreed with who first. Jennifer, rick, thank you very much. Theres another big situation going on inside the white house, who will be the chief of staff . That john matters. You could argue it matters even more in this administration, general john kelly was hired for obvious reasons, he was a general, they thought hed bring in discipline, he would keep the president on task, didnt work. However one of the victims was the new communications at that sometime, anthony scaramucci. He knows whats happening in the white house to this day. What about the struggle to find a chief of staff . Why is it so hard . What does he make of this letter, the president s anxiety. Perfect night for anthony next. Our dad was in the hospital. Because of smoking. But we still had to have a cigarette. Had to. But then, we were like. What are we doing . The nicodermcq patch helps prevent your urge to smoke all day. Nicodermcq. You know why, we know how. Be right back. With moderate to severe Crohns Disease, i was there, just not always where i needed to be. Is she alright . I hope so. So i talked to my doctor about humira. I learned humira is for people who still have symptoms of Crohns Disease after trying other medications. And the majority of people on humira saw significant symptom relief and many achieved remission in as little as 4 weeks. Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened; as have blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. Before treatment, get tested for tb. Tell your doctor if youve been to areas where certain fungal infections are common, and if youve had tb, hepatitis b, are prone to infections, or have flulike symptoms or sores. Dont start humira if you have an infection. Be there for you, and them. Ask your gastroenterologist about humira. With humira, remission is possible. General kelly, the fourstar marine tasked with bringing law and order to a chaotic white house staff is out. Did he want to leave . Was he told to leave . Who knows. Nick ayers, chief of staff from the Vice President was supposed to get the job. He is not going to take the job. Now we heard the president is, quote, super pisseed first class reporting right there over how to get this going. Even though he tried to get the ayers job off as fake news, that is a lie. Ayers was going to take the job, things changed. Lets bring in former Communications Director anthony scaramucci. You know . I was inside the white house for sure. Am i wrong . Was he never offered the job . I saw nick and bill schine, Kellyanne Conway and Sarah Sanders friday night and it never came up so i have no idea. You saw nick ayers with bill schine and Kellyanne Conway. Do you see them together a lot . They were having a staff dinner at the white house. I stently ran into them because i was doing a book signing. You saw time individually . They were having a cocktail party. Its interesting he was with the two of them if he wasnt the person they wanted to take the job. Okay, that doesnt read anything into it. I dont know if he was offered the job. Lets not even go into that because you like to fight. Try to knock me off the game by telling me im fatter than i look. I never said that. People are listening, that was never said. Anthony, good to have you here. Great to be here. Why is it so hard to fill this job. Who says it is . I think there will be hundreds of people if the president wanted to hire a thousand people, if he went into the ceo community, the Political Community they would line up out the door for that job. They just would. Bigname people . Big name people. Who are known . I dont think youre right and i think the fact is theyve had trouble staffing. I dont think theyve had trouble staffing. They have people who have not staff it hed the place properly. How do you explain president . He misfired with his two chief of staff selections. Thats the honest truth. You think general kelly was a mistake . I think general kelly, i honor his service as a marine and to the military but yes, i do think so. He said he was humiliated today. How do you think i felt . You know, on wall street you say not working out, you made a gaffe with the recorder, lets let you go by labor day, no problem, john, i get it. You dont fire people like that so that was indicative of the way he was going to handle the 17 months he was in the job so by the way, im not saying its over importance by me im just pointing out that culturally that operating style in a civilian system is not going to work. But the whole theory of the case was bring in the general. Thats the media saying that. Go to the president saying you say you respect me so listen to me when i tell you to do this and this. Look, first of all the president doesnt need somebody like that. What the president was needs youre the boss, heres the agenda, you need somebody tough enough to talk to him honestly. Weve had this conversation off the air. Sycophants, thats a word closer to selfishness and selfpreservation. Thats what he wants. Ayers was a kid who was seen as being gungho, smart and he wont be a a a problem. The kid made a fortune in the private sect or. He had a good political operating skill set and the president enjoyed that. By the way, people like jared and ivanka talk honestly to the president. The president needs somebody that is not going to alter their behavior when he enters the room. The president needs somebody that does not need the job, doesnt care. Loves the country, loves him and likes him, wants to do a good job. Will have his back, youre going to go into major trench warfare, i read this 44person letter. You have major trench warfare over the next 24 months and youll need somebody in there that will defend you and recruit people that are loyal to you. Even cabinet level. He said he was going to clean up the swamp but hes introduced more alligators weve ever seen. I dont think so. He went with people i think the president s core mistake is he went with people in government. Core mistake. The turnover has been gross, the malfeasance, the misfeasance entrepreneurs turn over. You have a guy running hud that is a surgeon. You want to put your personal pilot in at the faa. He seems stable. Dr. Carson seems stable. He hasnt created scandal. Thats not usually the bar of success. Get the gun back on the bird of the president and what hes going to do. Hes had two years of great accomplishments. The economy is still growing. Theres a little uncertainty about the trade but hes daled into the trade situation. Anxiety on the street. You see the inverse curves. I dont think the street has anxiety. Ive been in the markets for 30 years, the market volatility is more related to the Algorithmic Trading and issues around where Federal Reserve guidance will be and a lack of liquidity as the result of the evacuation but the feds gave the speech and i agree with all that. But i think the president will get the trade deal done, hell pick a great chief of staff that will who do you think it should be . I dont know the participants. You know the name is out there. Meadows is out there, christie is out there, Kellyanne Conway is on there. I think mark med dose dradow out. Jim sciutto reported that. If hes still in, mark is a competent guy. He keeps saying it would be an honor to serve and he was asked and said honor to serve but im different than the other guys. Mel is in the control room, she can tell me if im wrong. She loves to do that. I got the impression he thought he was more valuable inside the congress but i like mark meadows. Him . What about christie . Christie and i are personal friends so if chris gets the job do you think sneshd would he be great . He has the right skill set. Hes a trench warrior. Would you tell him kellyanne is a personal friend. Would you tell her to take it . Depends on the parameters. I think somebody would need to have an honest discourse with the president , would be able to talk to the president in a way the president likes but also to challenge him here and there, to point out that strategically we could be doing better. If you look at the list of his accomplishments, we should be at a 60 Approval Rating so we can talk about how we can get there. I believe he can. But he needs to collaborate with more people. Hold on a second. One of the president s negatives you want me to talk honestly. I want to go point by point but if you want to get it out, go ahead. No, its your show, congratulations. I am on the cover. Its your show, congratulations on the ratings, my name wouldnt fit on this cup but god bless you. You say what you want to say. What i want to ask you is this. His accomplishments. You say he should be at 60. 60, 65. The reason he isnt is because of the way he speaks and how he has continued to divide the country. That has to be true, anthony. Look at the rejection in the midterms. Lets not have that discussion anymore. That was wide rejection. He lost by millions more than he did in his own election. The point is people reject the negativity and the divisiveness. Picked up points in the senate but you are right. Two seats. He should have picked up five. Im going cede a point to you. I dont like some of the rhetoric, i dont think it helps him. I got my wife yelling at me over the Rex Tillerson tweet. Even though rex went after him, to use those words my wife says jesus, im glad our two kids cant read. She doesnt like it. Neither do the American People. So i would be signaling to the president you want these suburban duck. He cant not do it, anthony. Im going to send you my audio book. Youre interrupting. He cannot do it. Youre saying he should do things hes never shown the passty to do. Hes not 17. One of the problems he has, i think i know him reasonably well, he doesnt feel like he has a fortification of media surrogates so he uses twitter. He needs more media surrogates go. Back and read my comps plan. I was ready to execute it the day i got fired. There was a 10paragraph comps plan. Fortify with more media surrogates. It was a good plan but you have to follow it. Im surprised theyre not asking you. Theyre not going tos a me but if they ask me youll be my deputy. That gives us a good indication of what will happen. That gives me and you a 0. 0 chance. Mel bucks says hes open to a conversation. Okay. But other sources are saying he said no way. Mark is a great team player. Hes been supportive. Anthony, thank you. Back to the big concern on the president s mind. The reporting tonight is that he is real in his concern that they may try to impeach him, the democrats, when they take over. Why . Would that be right for the democrats to do . Could it back snier well discuss next. Thank you. Morning. Morning. What do we got . Keep an eye on that branch. Might get windy. Have a good shift. Fire pit. Last use 0600. Id stay close. Morning. Get ready to switch. Protected by flo. Should say, protected by alan and jamie. Right . Should it . When you bundle home and auto. Run, alan . You get more than just savings. You get roundtheclock protection. Cnn has learned from a source that the president does think impeachment now to be a real possibility. There are signs bob muellers investigation could be drawing to a close. The redactions show that theres more there. I know i keep saying that. But how much longer is the point. And what happens after that, all right . Thats where the democrats come in. Theyre going to take control of the house of representatives in january. They have tremendous oversight capabilities. Lets bring in d. Lemon. Ive been saying for a while now, and i know its crude, but thats the way i think. Dealmaking, ballbreaking. The democrats have to make a decision about the balance. If they decide to go heavier toward ballbreaking, oversight, and after the Mueller Report comes out, there is now a new phase of investigation into the president , his anxiety that were reporting tonight is well founded. But there is risk for the democrats as well. Yeah. Well, heres the thing. I think we should wait for the report. Everybody, including the president , especially the democrats, to see what happens before they decide what approach theyre going to take on impeachment. I would say everyone hold their horses. Hold your breath, or take a deep breath, rather, to see what happens. If theyre high crimes and misdemeanors, fine. I think they have any right to it, with any president. Im not just talking about trump. But i think right now we should wait and see. Yeah, he should be concerned. Think about what were talking about here, chris. Were talking about Campaign Finance violations for what we know to be true, that he paid off two people just before the campaign, two women with whom he is accused of having affairs, then lied about it a number of times and continues now to try to shape Public Opinion by lying about it. And then coming up with the excuse, saying its the same as the obama administration. Its not the same as the obama campaign. Nope. It has nothing to do with it. Legal experts can tell you, and you know that your sfrl. No question about it. Thats just legal exerciposure. Political exposure is what im talking about. Ill make a case next and ill see ah the top of the show. Pleasure. See you in a little bit. So i think we know some things now that we have never known up until this point. So the closing is about things have changed in a very real way, and it means something to all of us. Next. Five golden. Six golden rings. Seven golden rings volunteer hey. old man come on in. volunteer you taught me the rules. vo you do more than feed seniors when you share the love. You feed souls. Get a new subaru, like the all new forester, and charities like meals on wheels can receive two hundred and fifty dollars from subaru. avo get zero percent during the subaru share the love event. This is big tmobile is offering the awesome iphone xr, with an unlimited plan, for just 40 bucks a month. Unlimited. With the new iphone xr . yeah iphone xr included. For 40 bucks . that is big. Theres no place likargh e im trying. Yippiekiyay. Mom. Tonight is different. I have made no secret of the fact that i tell you to slow down when it comes to seeing the Mueller Probe as somehow winding up with some grand prosecution of the president of the united states. Im just telling you that my legal acumen and what i understand from my reporting is i dont see the basis for that given the rules that are in place regarding a sitting president. So thats why i say go slow. Also you only know what you can show, and we havent seen much from mueller. However, we have reached a high water point that i should not ignore either. 16 people, associates of the president , all meeting, open to, soliciting, receptive to russian influence, and many lied about the same. Again, the central question, why lie if you have nothing to hide . Why meet . Why not do what any seasoned political hand knows to do when contacted by a foreign power, let alone russia . Report it. And how could the president not know about all this if the people in the crosshairs say that they were in contact with people in the campaign and the Administration High up . Now, crimes . Not necessarily. Still dont see it. High crimes and misdemeanors . Well, were going to have to see what meat mueller puts on the bones of what i just put there above. But a basis for political debate and aggressive oversight, without question. His personal attorney, his campaign chair, his National Security adviser, errand boys, coffee boys they aint. And they all say that whatever they were doing, they were in touch with the administration about the same or the campaign to varying degrees. And mueller has cited their cooperation on those bases in each and every case. And then we have the line. I have nothing to do with russia. To the best of my knowledge, no person that i deal with does. Now, why would he say to the best of my knowledge . Thats legal speak, careful speak from a man who seems to see being careful as weakness. It is hard to believe he didnt know. We know that he talks to these people. We know that he is obsessed with this type of intrigue. And then there was this from the president of the united states. It was a well known project. It was during the early part of 16 and i guess even before that. It lasted a short period of time. I didnt do the project. I decided not to do the project, so i didnt do it. Now, again, this was exposure of a lie. He told you he had no dealings with russia. That was a lie. He had dealings with russia. He had them when he told you he did not have them. Now hes explaining the deal. Hes explaining what he lied about. And in his answer you see the problem. It was going on. All right. I lied about that, but its not a big deal. I decided not to do it. Wait a minute. You and all the people that you have called people like me were arguing that you knew nothing about it, that it was cohen freelancing, looking for a deal that he could get a piece of. None of that was true. Why lie . So tonight we see that the president s concern that the democrats may be out to impeach him is a justifiable concern. Do they have a case . Heres my final point. Thats up to you. A lot of pressure, but all of this will come down to you. This is not going to be about a criminal prosecution. I dont see it. If im wrong, ill be the first one to admit it. But impeachment is about an echo effect of the public sentiment on the same. There will be polls. There will be reporting. There will be chances for you to be heard on this. Thats what will drive what happens next. Thank you for watching us tonight. Happy monday. So much news. Let me get you right to don. Cnn tonight starts now. He lied about the lies he lied about. Hes like, let me tell you why i
