Mitigate those threats. This is crazy. This is the most extreme ive seen inform 16 years. From january 6th alone, weve already identified over 200 suspects. If youre out there, fbi agents are coming to find you. I was just trying to fight as best i could. You know, how do i survive this situation . Come wednesday, well begin a new chapter. This is new day with Alisyn Camerota and john berman. We want to welcome our viewers in the United States and all around the world. This is new day. It is friday, january 15th. 6 00 here in new york. Washington, d. C. , locked down ahead of joe bidens inauguration. More than 20,000 National Guard troops are being deployed to the nations capitol to protect our future president , lawmakers, and landmarks. In some strange poetic bookend, President Trump got a big, beautiful fence built, but this one is around the u. S. Capitol to protect it from trump supporters. The fbi director is warning that authorities are tracking extensive amounts of online chatter calling for more violence next week. Five people died in the capitol insurrection and it is becoming increasingly clear that it could have been much worse. We get new video like this every single day. Here is what one extremist said after beating a Police Officer with an american flag. That is our building filled with treasonous traitors. Yes, sir death is the only remedy for whats in that building well, this morning, youre going to hear from the Police Officers and what they have to say. That man has since been arrested and charged along with more than 100 others, including a man who hurled a fire extinguisher at Police Officers, as you see here. And another who brought a Confederate Flag into the capitol. So this morning, for the first time, we are hearing from the d. C. Police officers who were beaten by that mob, including this officer seen on video, getting crushed in the doorway by the insurrectionists. And another seen here being attacked, tased, and surrounded by the extremists. And then some guy started getting ahold of my gun and they were screaming out, you know, kill him with his own gun. Were going to bring you all of the new interviews throughout the morning. So this is the country that joe biden will inherit when he takes office in five days, as he also confronts the worst Public Health crisis in modern history. Last night, the president elect unveiled his 1. 9 trillion rescue package to fight the economic downturn and the sickness. Cnns Jessica Schneider live in washington with these massive security preparations, jessica. Absolutely massive, john. And there are just days to go before the inauguration. Law enforcement officials are continuing to sound the alarm of potential violence, right now in washington, d. C. 21,000 National Guard troops are monitoring and spanned out all over the city. Thats more than the number of troops we have in afghanistan, syria, and iraq combined. Reporter the nations capitol on edge as it braces for potential violence before the inauguration. Precaution being taken as thousands of National Guard troops flood the streets. The National Mall will be closed on inauguration day, and a source tells cnn officials are considering raising the terrorism threat level. Fbi director Christopher Wray speaking publicly for the First Time Since the attack on january 6th, voicing fears that domestic extremists may have been emboldened by the attack to carry out more. We are seeing an extensive amount of concerning online chatter, is the best way i would describe it, about a number of events, surrounding the inauguration. Reporter at a briefing with Vice President mike pence, wray said that investigators have made more than 100 arrests and received more than 100,000 digital tips. Weve already identified over 200 suspects. So we know who you are, if youre out there. And fbi agents are coming to find you. Reporter one alleged rioter, Peter Francis steger gave his reasoning for the violence that day. Everybody in there is a disgrace. That entire building is filled with treasonous traitors. Yes, sir death is the only remedy for whats in that building reporter federal prosecutors allege he is the man in this video, beating a d. C. Metro Police Officer with a flagpole. New video has also emerged, showing what appears to be people in tactical gear, climbing the steps of the capitol, as rioters chant the national anthem. Yeah, there was no doubt that they were prepared, planned, and quite intentional. So all of this has to be reviewed thoroughly. And publicly and transparently, because we cannot let this happen again. Reporter prosecutors say former air force reservist larry re rendal brock subsequently told the new yorker magazine he picked the restraint off the ground. Kevin seyfried who waved a Confederate Flag inside the capitol was arrested in delaware along with his son and was charged with entering or remaining on government grounds and Disorderly Conduct inside the capitol. Robert sanford, identified by prosecutors appearing to throw a fire extinguisher that hit a Police Officer on the head was arrested in pennsylvania and charged with four counts related to the riot. And jacob chancely, who is seen in photos at the capitol, and also known as the qanon shaman faces six federal charges. His Attorney Says chancely wants President Donald Trump to follow him, because his client was only following the president s invitation, something echoed by some of the rioters. We were invited by the president of the United States and all of these National Security concerns, they seem to be influencing the president elect. Joe biden has tapped lisa monaco to be his Deputy Attorney general nominee. Lisa monaco was a Homeland Security adviser to president obama and has become a very close aid to president elect biden. John . Yeah, now lisa monica, the big news is, will coordinate Inauguration Security for the biden transition. Shes actually going to pause the transition to deputy ag, and instead, focus on Homeland Security and these next few days. Just extraordinary. Jessica, thanks so much for being with us. Developing overnight, chilling details from washington, d. C. , Police Officers speaking out for the first time, about the violent mob that attacked them during the deadly insurrection at the u. S. Capitol. Including the officer we see in this video being crushed in a doorway. Cnns Shimon Prokupecz live in washington, so important to hear from the people who put their lives on the line to protect our leaders, shimon. Reporter yeah, john, absolutely. Its compelling stuff when you think about it. Weve seen these pictures, weve seen the video of these officers being viciously attacked by this violent mob. And now for the first time, we get to hear from these officers. And the story they tell is quite terrifying. Take a listen. [ chanting usa ] reporter in last weeks deadly coup attempt at the u. S. Capitol, a protrump mob swarmed the building, outnumbering and battling Police Officers fighting to defend it. It was difficult to offer any resistance when youre only about 30 guys going up against 15,000. Reporter d. C. Metro Police Officer Michael Finone was in the group of officers at the west front entrance of the capitol as rioters forced their way in. They eventually pushed them outside into the crowd, where finone says he was tasered several times. I remember like guys were stripping me of my gear and some guy started to get ahold of my gun and they were screaming out, you know, kill him with his own gun. At that point, you know, it was just like, selfpreservation. You know, how do i survive this situation . Reporter while trapped, the 40yearold says he thought about using his gun to fight back. That would definitely give them the justification that they were looking for to kill me, if they already didnt have made that up in their minds, so, the other option, i thought of, you know, was try to appeal to somebodys humanity. And i just remember yelling out that i have kids and it seemed to work. Some people in the crowd started to encircle me and try to offer me some level of protection. A lot of people have asked me, you know, my thoughts on the individuals in the crowd, you know, that helped me or tried to offer some assistance. And i think kind of the conclusion ive come to is like you know, thank you, but [ bleep ] you for being there. Reporter this horrifying video shows the moment the violent mob storms into a tunnel of the building, trapping and crushing d. C. Metro Police Officer Daniel Hodges by a door. Theres a guy ripping my mask off, and he was able to rip away my baton and beat me with it. And you know, he was practically fo foaming at the mouth. So just, these people were true believers in the worst way. When things were looking bad, i was calling out for all i was worth, and an officer behind me was able to get me enough room to pull me out of there and they brought me to the rear, so i was able to extricate myself. Reporter hodges miraculous leaving the attack without any major injuries, saying he was shocked some rioters thought authorities would be on their side. The cognitive dissidence and the zealotry of these people is unreal. You know, they were waving the thin blue line flag and telling us, were not your enemies, while they were attacking us. And, you know, killed one of us. The insurrectionists even using unusual means in their efforts to break into the most secure areas of the u. S. Capitol building. The individuals were pushing, shoving officers, hitting officers, they were spraying us with what we were what we are its essentially bear mace. Reporter with president elect joe bidens inauguration just days away, washington, d. C. Is on high alert and hodges says he hopes any protrump extremists stay out of the city to avoid another situation like last weeks insurrection. Stay home, stop this. But, you know, on the other hand, i kind of hope well, i hope theyre caught. Lets leave it at that. Reporter alisyn, john, these officers truly, truly heroes. Stories that were hearing from Law Enforcement officials here is that its the d. C. Metro police that came in and essentially saved everyone inside that capitol. The Capitol Police overwhelmed. They called for the d. C. Police to come in, and within minutes, they arrived. And one of the key things that they were able to do was they were able to give time to the Capitol Police to move many of the lawmakers out of harms way. Its very clear that many of them were targeting the lawmakers. Evidence is starting to emerge that indicates as much. But so many Law Enforcement officials that weve talked to say that it is the work of the d. C. Metro police that saved many of the lawmakers lives, saved the building. And the other thing i want to bring up is that video, Law Enforcement officials who have seen video from inside the capitol say what they have seen is shocking. The battle, the handtohand combat between these officers and the vicious mob is just really shocking and unreal to see. Hopefully that will become public at some point. But that story is yet to be told. But certainly hearing from these officers is key in all of this and its just remarkable. And its just brave of them to even come out and talk as they did to us. Yeah, i cant imagine anything more shocking than everything that weve already seen, but i guess we should brace ourselves for that. Shimon, thank you very much for bringing that to us. Can you imagine, john, anymore articulate messengers than those officers who explained that this was the crowd who claims to be blue lives matter, who claimed who were wavering the thin blue line flag at them. And as that one officer said, thank you, but f you. You heard from officer hodges talk about the people who were attacking them saying they were true believers. True believers in what . They were true believers in the lie that the president of the United States has still not disavowed about the election. He talked about the zealotry. Zealotry about what . About the lie that the president of the United States continues to spread. And right there, you saw the impact of the violence, the direct impact of the violence caused by that. Well, its not over. By the way, this is why Intelligence Officers are saying and preparing for whatevers going to happen next week. And if the president were able to somehow summon the character to come out and explain that that was a lie and that he lost the election, how much it would diffuse the situation. They say his speech about no violence doesnt do enough unless and until he says, i lost the election. And that hes been lying all along. We have so much more of that to play for you throughout the program. Also, developing overnight, president elect president elect joe biden unveiling a 1. 9 trillion economic and Health Care Plan to try to get the country out of the coronavirus pandemic. Cnns jessica dean is live in wilmington, delaware, with more. So tell us about this, jessica. Good morning to you, alisyn. So Many Americans are watching to see what will be in this plan and it affects millions of people in need, all across the country. So ill walk you through some of the highlights. Beginning with 1,400 direct payments to americans who qualify. Biden also wants to increase Unemployment Benefits to 400 a week and run that through september. There is also money in here for rental assistance and it will extend the Eviction Moratorium through september, as well, when it comes to small businesses, theres millions of dollars of relief in here, including millions of dollars outside the existing ppp programs for a host of businesses that have been affected by this. Theres also money in there that is a direct payment to state and local governments, as well as schools. A big piece of this is getting as many schools open as possible. And for those local and state governments, its also about keeping essentially service running. Do they need money for opening schools . Do they need money for testing and contact tracing, things like that . Theres also money in here specifically for Vaccine Distribution and coordination and testing. Heres what the president elect said last night. Take a listen. The crisis of deep human suffering is in plain sight. And theres no time to waste. We have to act and we have to act now. And unity is not some pie in the sky dream. Its a practical step to getting the things we have to get done as a country get done together. Reporter now, the president elect did call the vaccine rollout a dismal failure. Were going to hear more from him later today, alisyn, hes going to unveil his specific plan for Vaccine Distribution. They know theyve got to amp it up, they know they need more shots in the arm. They need 100 million shots in the first hundred days, alisyn. And back to this plan, they have to go now pitch it to congress and go get Senate Support and let the negotiations begin. Alisyn . It was interesting to hear president elect biden use such Strong Language of a dismal failure. Thank you very much, jessica, for all of that. So coming up, we have more of the interview with those three d. C. Police officers who explain what it was like to see that mob of terrorists coming to get them. Limu emu and doug. So we know who you are, if youre out there. And fbi agents are coming to find you. Thats the fbi director, delivering a warning to the domestic terrorists who participated in the deadly insurrection at the u. S. Capitol. Chris wray says that authorities are tracking extensive online chatter thats calling for more violence this coming week. Joining us now is cnn senior Law Enforcement analyst, andrew mccabe. Hes the former Deputy Director of the fbi. Andy, theres something so satisfying about hearing director wray saying, were coming to get you. Thats what americans have been waiting to hear. Weve been waiting to see whats happening. And now these arrests are pouring in. Weve watched all of this hideous video. And just to update our viewers, heres one of the guys. This is Peter Frances staeger. He was charged yesterday. He was the one who was beating a Law Enforcement officer with the american flag. And so that guy who weve all seen on our screens has now been charged with obstructing Law Enforcement. So, look, im comforted by the words that hes finally saying, but it seems like they have such a tall task ahead of them. They do. They do. And you know, youre right. It is incredibly comforting to hear from the fbi director, to tell us what we know, which is that there is no organization in the world that is more capable of unwinding a big problem and finding these people and holding them accountable. And i am sure thats what the fbi will do. But the work is about to get a lot harder. This constellation of domestic terrorist groups that assaulted our capitol is clearly getting the message that d. C. Is going to be a very hard target on january 20th and has already begun to change their messaging online, telling their followers and their adherents to do things in their own cities, in their own states. So diff fuusing this threat acr the country is essentially maine th metastasizing and it is going to be a significant problem well be working on for quite some time. This is not going away on inauguration day. Andy, cnn is reporting that theyre considering raising the threat level for the National Terrorism advisory system. What are the considerations there and what does that tell you . You know, the advisory system is really a way of communicating the threat level to the public. So it doesnt particular change the way that our professionals or Law Enforcement and intelligence folks work the issues daytoday, but its a way of communicate to the public how serious we think this threat is. I think its appropriate they evaluate the level in light of what weve all seen. The problem is going to be how we think about domestic terrorism. Many of us, myself included, have been calling for a change in the way that we approach the domestic terrorist problem. I think the assault on the capitol is the catalyst we need to bring in a considered and thoughtful approach to completely peeling back everything that happened that day. Much along the lines of the 9 11 commission, and producing a report that will essentially be the road map for our way forward on domestic terrorism. Andy, talk about thoughtful. Listening to these officers who were on the receiving end of this mobs bloodthirsty violence. They thought they were going to be killed. They thought that their own guns were going to be used against them, because thats what the terrorists were telling them was about to happen. And i just want to play again, Daniel Hodges talking about he was the one who was slammed over and over again in the door, and just this has thoughts after experiencing that. A guy ripping my mask off and he was able to rip away my baton and beat me with it. And, you know, he was practically foaming at the mouth. So just, these people were true believers, in the worst way. Just the absolute zealotry of these people, how they would they 100 believed that what they were doing was right and that they were the patriots and that no one would get in their way. Its like hearing our soldiers talk about isis. It really is, alisyn. If youve ever carried a badge and a gun and carried the responsibility that comes along with that, this is like the ultimate nightmare. To have to engage in handtohand combat, fighting for your life, trying desperately not to make the situation worse, and then to have to do that in a mob of thousands, who are attacking you relentlessly, no end in sight, your colleagues under the same sort of pressure, i can only imagine the terror that that that those men must have gone through. And i should also point out, the incredible presence of mind not to draw their weapons, not to start firing blindly at the people who were attacking them was Just Brilliant and incredible coolheadedness under relentless pressure and attack. Those men are heros and they deserve our unflagging respect. What officer hodges said about them being true believers, believers in what . Believers in the lie that the president told and continues to tell about the election. He was on air force one this week, telling people, i won, i won. Andy, there was an intelligence bulletin that went out this week, two days ago, that says this. Amplify perceptions of fraud surrounding the outcome of the general election and the change and control of the presidency and senate very likely will lead to an increase in violence. Basically, the Intelligence Community is saying, the president continues to lie about the election. This isnt going to get better. Thats absolutely right, john. And look, this is the core of any Extremist Movement, right . They are all predicated on some lie, on some perceived grievance, on some, you know, selfagrandized glorification of, you know, im going to go in and right the wrong and fight on the side of good. Which is, of course, a complete lie. And thats whats happened to this movement now. They have united under the banner of this president , they have embraced his cause, the lie that the election was stolen, and that is not going to go away. It is fueling them, it is adding logs to that fire of grievance and hate. He has sewn the seeds of a problem that will grow in this country for years. And we will be cleaning up this mess if really dangerous ways for the foreseeable future. You know the guy who calls himself the qanon shaman, the moronic minotaur as we refer to him, his lawyer was on cnn last night and explained where he got his motivation and who his spiritual leader is. Here it is. Over the course of the period from the election until january 6th, it was a driving force by a man he hung his hat on, he hitched his wagon to, he loved. Trump, every word, he listened to him. He felt like he was answering the call of our president. He was there at the invitation of our president. I mean, i know this guy is now trying to avoid prison time, so hes trying to blame it on President Trump, but investigators are already saying that President Trump is who called this mob. They have the tweets. They have the statements. Its its demonstrably true. And now that guy, the shaman, is looking for a pardon from President Trump today. Alisyn, its selfevident, right . Its the proof that you referred to. Its right there for all of us to see. And its no different than the people who travel to afghanistan to train under bin laden. They were listening to bin ladens lies. Its no different than all the isis fighters who moved to syria to follow the commands and the goals of abu bakr al baghdadi. This is the same idea. People are rallying around this exalted leader, following his words, believing the lies, incited the violence. It is an Extremist Movement that we now have here in our own country, perpetrated by our fellow citizens. Its, um, its extraordinary. And you know, the president is at the center of it. Chilling. Its just chilling, andy. Andy, thank you z. Absolutely. Thank you very much for all of your expertise with this. So what will President Trumps lawyers use as his defense for inciting that insurrection . All of this will come up, of course, at his impeachment trial. And we have new details about to expect, next. We have new details this morning about who the president has left to talk to, what he is ranting about, and what defense he plans at his Senate Impeachment trial. Cnns joe johns live for us at the white house this morning with the very latest. Joe . Good morning, john. Well, the president s lawyers, according to a source, are expected to argue that the president s words leading up to the riot up on capitol hill last week were protected speech under the First Amendment of the constitution. Thats in opposition to unprotected speech, which would be things like inciting a riot. So thats one of the things were expecting them to argue. The other thing theyre expected to argue is not a surprise at all, that you cant hold an impeachment trial for a person who has already left office. There is some precedent for holding an impeachment trial for a person who has left office, but it is the kind of thing that could end up in the courts, one way or the other. So, those are the two arguments that we know theyre going to make. And im sure well pick up some more information about that in the future. Now, the source for all of this is telling cnn that the president is making it very difficult for his legal team, starting with the fact that the statement the president made just last night, telling his supporters to stand down and stop the violence is something the president should have said last week. The president apparently has also shut down any talk of resigning and also shut down any talk of Richard Nixon, who was the last person who was in the office of the presidency to resign. One adviser says the president has told his people never to talk about Richard Nixon again. He says, in fact, he doesnt believe he can trust the Vice President mike pence to pardon him in the same way that gerald ford pardoned Richard Nixon. Meanwhile, we do have some new reporting from Cnns Kaitlan Collins indicating that the president wants a big crowd to send him off next week when he flies off from the white house to florida. Back to you. Joe johns for us at the white house this morning. Joining us now, cnn political commentator, errol and julie pace. Our Kaitlan Collins and Kevin Liptack reporting that the president had planned on leaving washington january 19th. Now he wants until the morning of the 20th and he wants a going away party. He wants loud, cheering people on the south lawn. Whats your take away . I think youre exactly right. There was a point a few days ago where it looked like the president was going to slink off, where this was a president who was going to leave not only in disgrace in the eyes of Many Americans, but in his own eyes, really. And i think what he has done over the last couple of days is start to turn the corner on that idea. He wants to leave at least looking outwardly like he is still confident, like he is still proud of what he accomplished and he is going to be a president who is remembered fondly by a lot of americans. He will want a cheering crowd around him. He will expect that not just in washington, but in florida when he lands. Of course, the Public Perception among Many Americans, the majority of americans at this point, is the opposite. Oh, yeah, i mean, there will be a loud, cheering crowd when he leaves, errol. The 80 Million People who voted for joe biden. But its so interesting to watch what the president wants versus what the people around him are having to do, which is move out. And we have some pictures of them, for instance, taking a lincoln bust out of the white house to the waiting car. Oh, theres video, actually. Okay, so theyre i hope i hope theyre not absconding with the bust. I hope that was theirs, when they brought it in there. This is mark meadows wife, shes taking a taxidermyed pheasant to her car. I think its interesting that this is what everyone around the president is doing. Its not over until the president leaves, as they say. It clearly is over. And certainly, one duds hope that theyre not looting the place. But the reality is, every passing day, and were coming down to, i think were closing in on about 120 hours left in this presidency. Every passing hour, more authority and power and frankly relevance drains away from donald trump. Hes going to cling to whatever hes got, desperately. And so we know hes got some cards left to play. We know that he could, in fact, tell this growing insurgency around the country that he doesnt want them to wreak havoc anymore. We dont necessarily expect him to say that, but he could, and he should. We also know that theres probably a last round of pardons that are coming, where donald trump is going to try to bestow the last bit of his power on some of the people who have been loyal to him throughout all of this stuff. It clearly is over. You can see the bunting from the white house residence that the Biden Harris Team is going to be inaugurated. We know its all over. But this president , you know, its an interesting bookend, john and alisyn, that just as he came into office with an inauguration that didnt please him, because he didnt see enough crowds, now hes leaving and theres going to be a military garrison all throughout washington, d. C. , thanks to his own actions. Hell try and avoid that, but i think the evidence will be unmistakably clear, as marine one lifts off for the final time. Hes not resigning, but it is interesting, julie, there are two people who are doing significantly more president ing than donald trump is today. And one of them is Vice President mike pence, who is the one meeting with Christopher Wray, meeting with the National Guard guarding the nations capitol this morning. The Vice President has stepped into the role that the president has no interest in doing, who has vacated. Hes fled the role of president , even if hes not resigning, and joe biden. Last night, the president elect giving a speech about what he will do to battle the pandemic and battle the sagging economy. Its just striking to see that juxtaposition. Its really extraordinary. I think its hard to find a moment in history that is comparable, especially when you consider all of the crises that this country is facing, even before what we saw at the capitol last week. The pandemic continues to rage out of control and the president is simply not active in any effort to respond to that pandemic, to message to the public about what they should be doing at this point. The economy is facing great uncertainty. This has been an area that the president has focused on throughout his presidency, has shown interest in. He has largely wiped his hands of that right now. And all of those symbolic things, all of the things that americans look to their president to do, to simply offer words of comfort, to show respect for the military. Its mike pence doing that on the one hand for this Outgoing Administration and its very much joe biden who is stepping in and trying to say, hold on, nation. You know, if you can wait a few more days, youll have a president who will certainly fill that part of the role, though he faces enormous challenges ahead on the pandemic and on the economy, as well. Oh, my gosh, its really almost inconceivable to think about the challenges that president elect joe biden faces, that hes being hand ed as he walks in. And its also hard to think about whats next for President Trump, other than this senate trial. And errol, its interesting to hear what the defense is going to be, though its perplexing, protected speech . The very first thing any student learns in a First Amendment class is that you cannot yell fire in a crowded theater. You cannot gin up a crowd to incitement. I mean, to an insurrection. Right. You cannot falsely cry fire in a crowded theater. If the place is actually burning down, of course, you can. What weve got is donald trump having a defense that the words that i spoke, i didnt know what they were going to do and so forth. This tends to be analyzed through a sort of totality of circumstances lens, meaning, you can get together with your friend and you can sing God Bless America in public, but you cant do it at midnight outside the home of a civil rights leader while youre burning a cross. It looks a little bit different. So, yes, donald trump can say all kinds of rough and ready words, he can incite people if he wants to, but under the totality of circumstances that they then took off down pennsylvania avenue as he instructed them to do, and attacked the capitol and violently assaulted lawmakers while they were trying to determine the final steps of an election that donald trump lost, that totality of circumstances is not going to look great. And thats why i think we see some reporting today that top lawyers in washington, d. C. Are demuring, are not taking the president s calls when he asks for Legal Defense to help him make his case. Well, hes still got rudy giuliani. If getting impeached twice is not enough, he signed up rudy giuliani. Maybe he can get impeached a third or fourth time as well with Rudy Giulianis help. Vaccine rollout in the United States has been a dismal failure thus far. This is one of the most challenging operational efforts we have ever undertaken as a nation. Well have to move heaven and earth to get more people vaccinated, to create more places for them to get vaccinated. To mobilize more medical teams to get shots in peoples arms. Thats president elect joe biden slamming the trump administrations vaccine rollout. Bidens goal is to vaccinate 100 million americans in his first 100 days. As of this morning, only 11 million americans have been vaccinated. Joining us now is cnns chief medical correspondent, dr. Sanjay gupta. Sanjay, great to see you. So, part of the problem with these vaccinations has been that the states are illequipped to have to meet this aspirational goal. They dont have the infrastructure, sometimes they dont have the manpower. So, have you heard how President Biden plans to change that . Well, were starting to hear some specific plans. Were going to hear more today. Yesterday was sort of larger framework, but they talk, first of all, about a lot of money going towards this. You know, there was, as part of this 1. 9 trillion package youre hearing about, 400 billion is going specifically to vaccines, ramping up testing, and reopening schools. So a lot of it towards vaccines, talking about things like these large vaccination fairs, Community Vaccination clinics, things like that that would allow people to easier access vaccines. We need to hear people about actually increasing manpower, just personnel, to be able to administer these vaccines. That seems to have been a ratelimited step. And we also need to understand how the private sector will be a part of this, as well. I mentioned to you before, ive been talking to people within the National Pharmacy retailers. They have incredible capacity. You know 100 million doses per month, they say they can do. Are they going to be able to do it. Do they have the resources they need to take this on . Perhaps, you know, theres little nuances, you know, you have to observe people after they receive their shot for 15 to 30 minutes. Is that going to happen in the pharmacy . Do they have the space to do that . If there is an allergic reaction, do they have the resources to be able to take care of someone . These types of things need to be addressed, theyre very important. But, yeah, i think were starting to hear this plan and its obviously a huge priority for them. Were starting to also learn about the personnel decisions that are being made. The New York Times reporting moments ago that former fda chief David Kessler is going to take over operation warp speed. And we learned yesterday, andy slavitt, who helped unf obamacare, the Computer System back in 2016, is also going to be involved in this. Some look at this as kind of a health care dream team being put on the case. I was trading some messages with andy slavitt about that yesterday. And David Kessler, someone who is well known. He was part of this Transitional Task force, along with vivek murthy. He was fda commissioner for president s bush and clinton. Worked with dr. Fauci quite a bit in the past, specifically around hiv aids. You know, moncef slaoui, who by all accounts did an incredible job, came from the sector of pharma development. David kessler comes more from the sort of sector of pharma regulation. So you know, i think it sounds like its an interesting pick, a good pick. Hes obviously got a lot of work cut out for him, because we talk about these two vaccines, moderna and pfizer that have been authorized. There may be more on the way. But also, we havent talked as much about various therapeutics, the monoclonal antibodies, potential other antivirals. There are all of these other things that are sort of out there that are brewing, that hes going to have to sort of be taking command over. We know that dr. Fauci will be staying on, and not dr. Deborah birx, who of course for so long, was one of the faces of the this. Its just interesting to see what choices joe biden is making. Yeah, i mean, a lot of familiar faces from previous administrations, but its clear that, you know, some of the folks that were part of the of existing task force are no longer going to be there. You know, i dont know what all of those personnel decisions are yet, whats going to happen at the fda, whats going to happen with the testing czar, admiral brett giroir, well see. Its clear they have some specific plans. But hopefully well hear some details on these things. Because we talk about the vaccines, testing. We havent talked enough about testing. Does that mean antigen testing will be available in schools . Will be available in a building like the studio youre working in now so you can get tested on a regular basis. Well see what that all means. Its going to be critical over the next few months. Vaccine is important, but the next few months are perhaps the most critical in this entire pandemic. Sanjay, youre a member of a club that apparently as 100 million members. The cdc told us overnight how many people have received both vaccines, its 1. 3 million. What does that number tell you and where should we be . We should be a lot higher than that, obviously. So that out of the 11 or so Million People that have received shots, only about 1. 3 million have received both shots right now. Thats critical. I mean, if you talk to all the scientists, theyll say, its the two shots on schedule that gives you the maximum protection that were talking about, 90 to 95 . For me, incidentally, i got my second shot a week ago. It was the pfizer vaccine. If you look at the data carefully, what it says is that seven days after the second shot is when you get to that maximum protection. So that day is today for me. When i got the second shot, just as a note, you know, the first shot i really had no symptoms, no side effects at all. Second shot was not bad, but about 12 hours after i took it, i had a sore arm, lowgrade fever, just felt like i needed to go to bed. 12 hours after that, i felt pretty much back to normal again. But that number should be a lot higher, closer to 10, 20 million by this point, for sure. Sanjay, thank you. Well speak to you again later on new day. Meanwhile, the fbi warning about extensive online chatter that they are hearing thats calling for more violence. So well tell you how states across the country are preparing, next. New details this morning about how ivanka trump and Jared Kushner are frankly taking care of themselves. Cnns kate bennett joins us now with this brand new reporting. Kate, what have you learned . Basically, john, this is a couple and a family who rely on a brand, as we know, for decades to sort of keep them going forward. Its very challenging now departing the white house to rely on that brand when the last thing that weve seen of this administration, of course, these horrific images of the insurrection. That has Jared Kushner and ivanka trump in a bit of a panc as they look to their future. Entering the white house was a completely different situation. I talked to a lot of sources today who say theyre questioning everything now from where theyre going to live after the white house to what their careers will be. This has also put in jeopardy a potential political future for ivanka trump. She has not made any secret to those close to her that she, too, would some day like to run for office. Theres been talk of her moving to florida where theyve bought property to perhaps challenge marco rubio in 2021. This could all put those things in the balance as they leave the white house. Very difficult now for them to tout any achievements that theyve made inside this administration, sort of in a farewell tour that they were planning, that now is compromised because, of course, its very difficult for ivanka trump to make the video and to talk about her accomplishes when everyone is seeing what has happened in the wake of the end of her fathers presidency. Most of the people i spoke to said that this is going to be an extremely difficult postwhite house time for them. The future is unclear. They are not going to be welcomed back to new york, as weve reported before, by their social circles. Bedminster, where they have a home, could also be challenging. And now its looking like florida could be the next step for this couple. John, back to you. The goodbye video doesnt look quite as good if youre making it in front of the fences being erected around the capitol to keep it safe. Kate bennett, terrific reporting. Thanks so much. New day continues right now . The nations capitol on high alert and on edge. Renewed fears over attacks in washington, d. C. Have turned the capitol into a fortress. Theres a major Security Threat and we are working to mitigate those threats. This is crazy. This is the most extreme ive seen in 16 years. We have chilling attacks of being under attack, lives hanging in the balance. For the first time were hearing accounts from washington, d. C. Police officers who withstood the invasion of the u. S. Capitol. So important this morning because of what were facing now, as the fbi director says theyre detecting an extensive amount of online chatter. Cnn has learned there are considerations about raising the Terror Threat level. 12foot fences now in place outside the u. S. Capitol. 21,000 National Guard troops at the ready. The National Mall is pretty much locked down ahead of the inauguration next week. And fbi director Christopher Wray finally speaking in public about the threats and he did it in a meeting with the Vice President , mike pence. We are seeing an extensive amount of concerning online chatter, is the best way i would describe it, about a number of events surrounding the inauguration. And together with our partners, we evaluate those threats and what kind of resources to deploy against them. Right now, were tracking calls for potential armed protests. Heres the good news. More than 100 people have now been arrested for their roles in that riot, including the man seen here beating a Police Officer with an amic
