CSPAN Values Voter Summit Opening Plenary Session September 28, 2014

Recently, it has only become much worse. Big government progressives are interested in marginalizing, dividing and silencing critics who provide a different point of view. They believe solutions are found in the federal government. We believe the American People have the answers. There are three institutions i believe in first of all, the family. Second of all, the church, and third, the government. Each one of these institutions play a very significant role and if they are out of balance, things can go wrong. The family has to be strong. We have to have fathers and the home. Divorce rates need to be lower. We need to love and support singleparent families. The church has a Critical Role in our communities. They need to have Community Awareness and involvement, supporting the family, building character in young people. If those two are filling their appropriate roles, the government will fill its appropriate role. National defense, infrastructure, when i think about what xm america great, we can think of a lot of things. Our history of our culture, hard , all oftrepreneurship these qualities make us unique to the rest of the world. Sadly, there is a new and watching nbc about how to start a Small Business. Have you heard about this . Take your hardearned money, start a large as this and wait one year. After one year, you will have a Small Business. America has never been a mindless mass. We have always been one country that celebrated and encouraged the power of each individual to dream, to work, to live his life in peace. When the left makes it easier for people to lose their individual motive by convincing them to trade their dignity for dependents, it is the height of disrespect. Many on the left forget quickly the United States government would not exist without the is quicklystop it becoming a government above the people without the people and against the people. For proof of that, look no further than the acronyms nsa, epa, and irs. Nsa, above the people. Epa, without the people. The irs, against the people. I would say we would be better off if the nsa, epa and irs were mia. Its time we cut the federal Government Act down to size of the original piece of parchment it was written on. In spite of everything, i still believe in america. When i think about american greatness, i dont think about inside the beltway. I think of the American People. Since our founding, weve grown the 13 to 13 colonies to worlds lone superpower. We are the superpower because our people have had the freedom to create, explore, innovate, and in then. We must reject this individual freedom and make sure the government doesnt squeeze anyones ability to grow and succeed, or live the American Dream. Its important to first three world first three were of the constitution are a reminder to every politician its not we the government, if we the people. In the American Dream unites everyone of us. This is my vision for a Strong America. A Strong America is a place where religious liberty is embraced and no longer threatened by overreaching federal health care mandates. , as aa Strong America land where families decide where their children attend schools. Whether its a choice among public schools, voucher for a private school, or the protection to homeschool. Education is critical to a free society. The federal government that overtakes families and it should individual state responsibility is out of line. America is a place where people dont need to depend on the federal government because opportunities exist for all the work and embrace personal responsibility. I believe in an america that stands shoulder to shoulder against surety that our friends and allies around the world and gods peopleandons in israel. [applause] i also firmly believe a Strong America is one that protects the lives of the born and unborn. [applause] i want to share with you a story. There was a young lady who was 17 years old. All the sudden, she found herself in an unexpected redundancy. She was actually the daughter of a pastor, a large family, very involved in the community. She found herself in a very difficult situation. She did not know what to do, didnt know who to talk to or where to go will stop on top of that, her father and mothers home where her and 10 children lived bird to the ground. She lost everything. She found herself laying on the floor one night in a neighbors home crying and sobbing because she did not know what to do. She knew if she could get to kalamazoo, michigan, there was an Abortion Clinic there. She knew if she could just find a ride to get to the Abortion Clinic, she could take care of this problem. She was sobbing and crying and one night, some of the other people heard her crying. Was ithe secret was not going to be able to hide the secrets much longer. She cannot get to kalamazoo to do the abortion, she decided she was going to have to tell someone and so she told her mother. She did not want to tell her boyfriend, she did not want to tell her pastor father who would be embarrassed. Her mother was the lady she finally decided to trust. Momrandmother grabbed my and told her it was going to be ok. [applause] we are all going to mess up. But we have to reach out and love will stop we have to reach out with a helping hand. We have to be willing to say im going to stand beside you and im going to help you get through this time. Because if we dont, government is going to try to. We have to be the ones to reach out and help. Just like my mother, just like my grandmother, just like i father and graham might father and grandfather, they embody what it means and that all life has value. It is because of that belief , there are more doctors, teachers, athlete and scientists and even smalltown farmers who lose their opportunity to live their own story. Let this generation be the one to stop abortion in america. [applause] so we need each and every one of you. Thank you for being here today. It is critical because of our voices are not heard, many across the country awesome voices will not be heard in washington. Relationships. D it never hurts to smile when youre talking with your leveler your liberal friends. Just keep smiling. It makes them nervous. We need to be happy warriors, willing to go out and show up at places where they dont expect us to show up. Build relationships with our officials in office. And if you have the opportunity, take the opportunity to run for is where you feel that your letter. America was outbid on freedom and liberty and we are the guardians of that. Let stand together and fight to keep our nation strong will stop let dan together and fight for a Brighter Future for generations to come. Thank you for being here and supporting the Family Research council, thank you for making a difference in peoples lives. God bless each and everyone of you, and god bless america. [applause] thank you. Senator cruz is in the house. [applause] to introduce him as one of our great sponsors, every year at the values voters summit, and that would we the Media Research center. Report on the overwhelming liberal bias in todays media. Ough hours and hours of they wade through hours and hours of liberal media cover so we dont have to and report to us. Coming out to introduce our next speaker, would you welcome and thank the president of the Media Research center, brent bozell. [applause] thank you very much. Thank you. How are yall doing today. How is it going. Senator cruz is backstage, but i thought i would talk for 45 minutes first will stop very quickly. The first thing i want to do is introduce you to my grandson. Maximilian leo bozell i just met him yesterday. His father is in the marine corps and is stationed in okinawa. He came back last night. Rod ishis lovely bride the baby and weve been having fun ever since. Theres a second reason actually three reasons why i brought him. To ask you as you listen to people like senator cruz to focus on children like this. Focus on the future because this is not about you. This is about this generation will stop get off defense. Its time to go on offense. [applause] lines, max wanted to say something. Ist he was asking me before if this was a 501 c four, said it was. And he said he wanted to express his own opinion and i said ok and he said run, ted, run. Stop u very much will thank you very much. [applause] thank you so very, very much. I want to thank max. I think is the youngest introducer ive ever had. God bless the value voters summit. [applause] week, i stoodhis on the senate floor and said i intend to stand until i can stand the longer. [applause] later, together, a great many men and women across the country had elevated today about the disaster that is obamacare. So, in honor of that anniversary, sit back, relax, we are going to be here a while. But dont worry. You will know we are nearing the end if and when i begin to read of yall havet gotten to know our daughters. Caroline, the sixyearold is a cynic. Nothing i have done in the u. S. Senate has impress her about. Except for reading green eggs and ham will stop when i came said she looked at me and that was kind of cool. When your kindergartner gives you that kind of reassurance, thats any good. We all saw the news how many of you saw in the news that a man was thought after he climbed the fence at the white house . The secret service stopped him and said im sorry, you have two more years left on your term. [applause] fallon. Came from jimmy hold the media to account because i will say in the personting on who broke into the white house, they have not used the politically correct term and we should insist that abc, nbc and cbs refer to the term that is politically correct and undocumented white house visitor. [applause] grateful you all are here today standing up for our country. The lord tells us weeping may endure for tonight, but joy cometh in the morning today as we are here every man, woman in this room knows that morning is coming. [applause] that abroad, weve seen that in our lives, and weve seen it at home. If you look abroad, this conference is particularly pearlescent particularly blessed to welcome an extraordinary hero, Marion Abraham miriam e brame. I just had the opportunity to visit with her and her son and her little baby girl and her husband backstage. An incredible peace and joy radiates from her. A young wife, young mother in prison thrown into a pit, giving birth to her daughter with her legs and leg irons will stop sentenced by a cruel and oppressive government to receive 100 lashes and then hanged by the neck until dead stop for the crime of in a christian. Told hernment of sudan if you would only renounce jesus , we will spare you this terrible fate. She looked at her captors and said i cannot and will not renounce crisis. Crisis christ. [applause] how many of us had ever had our faith tested like that is to mark, a of us have faced a question like that . If you start to feel hope and despair for whats happening in this country, remember that prison cell in sudan. Is to a fewam minutes ago and to talk of it all, how did you not lose faith . How did you not give up hope . She responded very simply she said god was with me. Promiseho forgets the complete remember joy cometh in the morning. Millions of believers across the up in prayerher and spoke out in support of her and the heat and the like was too much on the government of sudan and they were forced to release her free at last. [applause] im reminded of the book of where paul in silence were thrown in prison and god brought an earthquake that roque the prison open. , afraid for the take hisces again to own life and paul stopped him. The jailer asked of the apostle saved . At must i do to be seeing modern day pauls and silas is across the world. , tomorrow night at the value voters summit, you will hear from his wife. Shes a woman of incredible faith. She is an american. Her husband is an american. Their two little kids are American Children living in idaho. She recorded a simple video of their children saying please send our daddy home. Today is the twoyear anniversary. The government showing up and arresting him for professing his christian faith. Two years. Things if incredible hearing the story about how while in an iranian prison, he has led dozens of fellow prisoners and their jailers to christs. [applause] just as with paul and silas, the jailers are turning to him saying what must i do to be saved . God is president in the darkest corners and we are standing on the promise of the word. Right now this week, the government of iran is sitting down with the United States government swilling chardonnay whatw york city to discuss my mr. Netanyahu describes as a historic mistake on a bad deal setting the stage for ron to acquire Nuclear Weapon capability. We so desperately need a president who will stand up and say these discussions do not release himntil you send him home will stop send him home. [applause] vacuum of american leadership, we need a president who will speak out, a president who will stand up and say to the over 200 nigerian schoolgirls held cap this by boko haram because they are christians, little girls sold into slavery, we need a president who will speak out for prisoners of conscience like kenneth a and north korea, like Leopold Lopez gross inela, like alan see inike Sergeant Emery mexico. [applause] abroad, we see a lot of weeping. Butay endure for the night, we stand on the promise that joy is coming in the morning. Part of the reason we can stand with such confidence and optimism with such hope is we understand it in our own lives. This is not something abstract or the heretical. Something each of us has lived. And many of you have gotten to know my father, pastor rafael cruz. He is very shy and softspoken. And he is beloved by the media. Even the folks in the press are cracking up at that one. Teenager experienced that same captivity. He was 14 when he began fighting in the cuban revolution. The revolution in cuba came from the student council, from High School Kids and college kids. When my father turned 17, my grandparents brought to bought him a brandnew white suit. He went out partying enjoying the town and then he disappeared. My grandfather went searching for him because he knew his son had been in the underground and searched jail to jail to jail. My father had been thrown in a cuban prison and tortured, beaten hour after hour. He had his teeth crushed in as his head was stomped in to the ground by army boots. When sheother told me saw my father again, you could not see a spot of white in that white suit. Blood covered in mud and and his teeth were dangling from his mouth. When he was in that cuban jail, god was with him. By all rights, my father should have perished there. Gods hand ron him from captivity to freedom. Grace brought him to the United States of america. [applause] when i was a young child, my parents were having in calgary. They were in the oil business. Wereer of my parents people of faith at the time. Neither of them had a relationship with christs. Both my parents drank far too much. Both of them had Serious Problems with alcohol. , my i was three years old father decided he did not want to be married anymore stop he did not want a threeyearold son. A plane and left calgary and flew back to texas. He left us. When he was in houston, a colleague in the oil and gas toiness invited him to come leigh Road Baptist Church and my father accepted that invitation and he gave his life to jesus. [applause] he went and bought an airplane ticket and flew back to calgary to rejoin my mother and rejoin his son. Faith real, asks is is a relationship with jesus real, i can tell you if it were not for my father having his life to christs, i would have been raised by a single mother without having my dad in the home. Us, we have seen firsthand that in other dark in other darkness, hope remains. Of Amazing Grace but it how sweet the sound that saved my soul. I once was blind but now can see. What an incredible story every one of us knows and understands in our lives. We see it at home we see it in our nation. There is in today in america and urgency none of us have seen before in politics. Pulling today shows 76 of americans dont believe our children will have a better life than we do all stop that is unprecedented. And it is fundamentally unamerican. Idea this country was built on, every generation for sentry has believed with freedom, standing for our values, our kids will have a better life than we did in their kids will have a better life than we did. This is a time of greatus. Greater than the miriam faced in that cell in sudan. It is no greater than the crisis so many of us have aced in our own lives. , i had to enter with an israeli friend of mine for Rosh Hashanah and he made a remarkable observation. America begins with the fundamental from us of religious liberty. It is the very first thing in the bill of rights. Its the very first freedom upon which all other liberties are built. Built on thewas revolutionary idea that our rights dont come from government, they come from almighty god. [applause] as the declaration said we hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created each will and are endowed not i queen, not even by an allpowerful resident. Endowed by their creators with certain inalienable rights and that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We are seeing fundamental challenges and yet we are seeing victory such as the phenomenal victory for religious lit religious liberty that was the hobby lobby case. [applause] of five to four, the Supreme Court said the federal government cannot force people of faith to abandon their faith. Think about it for a second if that was five to four. And the different outcome is different. There are people in washington who say republicans to win has to abandon values. Right. Exactly our values are who we are. Our values are why we are here. [applause] our values are fundamentally american. This country remains a centerright c
