Targeting Islamic StateHeadquarters Training camps and combat vehicles. Strikes against the Khorasan Group was carried by the us alone. But five arab nations did participate in the third phase of the operation which began after midnight. It focus odd Islamic State targets near the border with iraq. That rollings gave president obama gave him some cover for opening a new front for the islamic take the. And the president he made sure to highlight the arab partners in his remarks today. I also made sure that america would act as coalition. Thats exactly what we have done. We are joined in this action by our friends and partners. Saudi arabia, the united emrates, jordan, bahrain, and qatar. The strength of this makes it clear to the world that this is not americas fight alone. And when asked about the length of the campaign. Pentagon officials quarnd it could go on for years. Could this take years . I would think of it in terms of years. I can tell you that last night strikes were only the beginning. Were taking all of that up here tonight with several experts of the region. Former Us Ambassador to syria in the Bush Administration. Theyd or. Chairman of the house foreman committee. Fox news and retired general robert. But first there are still major questions about just how committed governments in the region are to helping the us and iraq. President obama is devoting most of his week to trying to build International Support at the United Nations and fox news chief correspondent is in new york tonight with the president and this report. On the sidelines of the United Nations meetings president obama still has plenty of work to do forming a longterm coalition to defeat isis. Though today he was quick to count the early success as he huddled in new york with is some of those key allies. Its a wonderful opportunity for me to welcome these leaders. Friends, partners from the region. And to say thank you to all of them. Even the president s critics acknowledged that after missed messages and fits and starts on strategy, bringing along five sunni arab nations was a pivotal step in the battle against sunni terrorists. Its the fact this now has an arab face. The fact that they put this together i just is most important take away. Except one of the five allies that provided air support and not actual strikes qatar has its own dangerous ties to terrorist just as notable is whos in is who is partially in can the sidelines. Not a single nato allies has joingd. France says they didly only help with air trikes. Egypt is a major recipient of us aid yet its holding back on military support. Syria has not been helpful perhaps because of its own connection to extremists while the United KingdomPrime MinisterDavid Cameron has provided other support one of his predators is expecting more. I think britain will be there with the u. S. Look, this is a big problem for us. Weve got to help shoulder the responsibility. An interview with the wall street journal. Egyptian behind the why he and other allies maybe holding back a fear mr. Obama is not in the fight for the long hall. He praised the president for expanding the fight against isis, but he said there are many more extremist in the region and cautioned the administration of washing the its hand of the midis down the road adding we cant just limit it to scmectdz destroying the Islamic State. One of the other extremists is the Khorasan Group. And the president used a threat from them as a justification for the air strikes. Last night we took strikes do plotting by seasoned alqaeda operatives in syria who were known as Khorasan Group. A far cry from the president s claims of the remnants of alqaeda being the . V squad and what top officials were saying earlier this month as they downplayed the threat. At present we have no credible information that isil is planning to attack the homeland of the United States. A busy day for the president tomorrow. Hell deliver an address to the un general assemble and will cheer a meeting on the important topic of foreign fighters. Though late today he did have to time to squeeze in a fundraiser for Senate Democrats here in new york. Thank you very much. Well, some other noteworthy reactions to strikes in syria. The president lashed at the campaign. Hes saying there was no legal basis for the strikes without un authorization or an invitation from the syrian government. The syrian president about a shar al assad says he supports any International Effort against terrorism. Apparently backing the strikes that could aid his efforts to stay in power. The president of turkey, our nato alley today opened the door to giving military or logistically support to us and syria although so far turkey has respected a military role in the effort. And israels military said today it shot down a syrian fighter jet after the aircraft strayed a mile into air spice over the golan heights. Israel said it would not get involved in fighting the fight in syria unless the violence reaches its country. And turning to the second target in last nights strikes in syria, a group called the khorasan made up of from people from iraq and pakistan. Its called the execution phase of an attack on either us soil or in europe. Now, fox news is confirming today from Us Intelligence sources that the edition is to strike this group was made last week after details of their pending attack became clear. Fox news chief intelligence correspondent katherine has our report. In terms of the correspond glon group which i say network of seasoned veterans these strikes were undertaken to take immanent plot on us targets. Fox news a half dozen operatives all associated with the leadership relocated to syria with intent new plots targeting aircraft bound for the us and europe. Among them a top strategist and finance chief who was osama bin ladens third cousin. Hes also involved in strategic planning. This is a very senior praifort. Someone who was groomed in this position. He ran alqaedas network in iran before moving into syria before the spring of 2013. Hes in charge of planning operations. He was specifically sent to syria to execute these operations. They heart of the demands. The bomb maker who trained apprentices to build bombs do 2009 underwear and printer bombs that used none metallic explosives. An Intelligence Group says theyve experimented with other devices which lead to new screening did he airports for cell phones and laptops. Theyre grooming western passport horldz to flights bound to us and europe. Asked whether the threat was diminished, they were noncommitmental. Give us some time before we being answer that. Us intelligence official has confirmed that Khorasan Group has gone operational. There was no immediate threat we were told because no specific airline or route had been identified president decision to darting the Khorasan Group happened within the last week and the intelligence officials said it was bassed in part an updated Location Information for the groups Senior Leadership. Tom. Katherine does that mean the threat is over simply because we attacked them. No. The threat is not over. This ongoing plotting from the Khorasan Group has led to a security changes at the airports really beginning in january of this year and then in july with the increased focus on the cell phones and the laptop computers. If they had successfully taken out the Senior Leadership they can be be replaced because the key component here, tom, are these apprentices. The people who know how to handle the explosives. That is the reason they have been sent is to syria and the connections go back and this is important, to the alqaeda Senior Leadership in pakistan. This is very much an operation of the old guard, tom. Another threat. Thank you very much. Well, a new york judge today extension osama bin ladens soninlaw life in prison for trying to kill americans and providing information to terrorist. The judge said that he worked as analogy spokesman was fully committed to the agenda showed in remorse and even threatened the us again once again in a sentence hearing in a manhattan court. Up next, death from above. President obama gives the green light to air strikes in syria president former ambassador to syria on the strategy. The operation and its effectiveness in fighting the Islamic State. Force force ey oh, i love pet day. You guys are just two big softies. Cut it out. Look at these guys. Oh, you. It says the disease could become a permanent fixture in the region spreading as routinely as the flu. Well, our first guest says the Obama Administration did well. Getting five arab nations to join. But the fighting most are the assad regime. Lebanons hezbollah and iran. Joining us. Is the former ambassador to syria the george Bush Administration. Before that he was serving with bill clinton. Currently he is a ceo of training services. Mr. Ambassador, let me start off the with question talked about four of the five arab he understood. But qatar did not drop any order in a place and he was concerned about the fact that qatar may be financing isil, isis, whats your take on the fact that qatar was not quite the full player in the air strikes last night. Well, we know that qatar has been on the outs to some extent with the other allies, saudi arabia, the United Arab Emirates and bahrain precisely because it has supported groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and other islamic groups. However, i dont see any points that isil has received aid from qatar, and i think qatar knows that would be a huge mistake foosm. So i think we should withhold judgment on that. All right. So they might get involved mosh. How about turkey, nato alley. They justed what was it 49 prisoners that were captured by the Islamic State. Just released unharmed and we know how they have been so brutal with prison or his. With the turks, they let them go. They said we just cant talk about it. Its all very secret. What do you know about that . Well, i dont know more than what others have read in the press, but more than certainly there have been some exchanges involved including possibly people released from detention in turkey who can rejoin isil, but the fact of the matter is turkey has been a disappointment all along. They havent controlled their border. A lot of the reasons we see isil as strong as it is because a lot of people have been able to get through the border. The turks have taken a lot of refugees, but the other day they were feeling overwhelmed by kurds trying to escape isis and syria. And they closed the border to them. They also have been very afraid of a group that has sought kurdish partisanship. Theyre, of course, right across from each other. At the same time theres the issue of using air basis in turkey for us to launch our military and the last i heard that was still off table. Yeah, the air base was used, of course, by the us air force and used in our operations against sad damn hussein in the past. But now its not clear if turkey is willing to make those facilities available again. So i think the turks are under a lot of pressure to cooperate more, but hes a very stubborn man, their new president , foremanly the Prime Minister and thats undeniable. The groups we need a scorecard to keep track of who is involved in this, but the Syrian Rebels who are not isis, but not assad groups theyre very concerned that were going after isis in syria that they think will benefit assad fighting them. Yeah, theres mixed opinion among the opposition, but the socalled syrian army is very much a fractured group, and as you indicate one group called has amcame out and said theyre against the us and the Coalition Bombing isil because they need them in the fight against assad. And then, of course, you have the virtually alqaeda, the people that we had up north, the Khorasan Group is part of the front which is affiliated with alqaeda and pakistan and afghanistan. So youve got really, really strange bedfellows, and, yes, its true that i said, as you indicated in the opening, partly tongue and cheek, but partly true that the coalition of the willing on the ground of hezbollah, the syrian army and iranian train groups. It is a strange bedfellow. Very briefly you mentioned the Khorasan Group. Theyre supposed to be fairly small, but the fact that we bombed last night and the immanent that he can they were going to do on some us soil. How do you assess their danger . Well, again its all very secret i have, but clearly we got intelligence somewhere. Im quite impressed that us the us or some of the its allies were able to penetrate the group fecialt and get that kind of of intelligence. And im glad that weve hit them and i hope well stay on them. But, again, it points out the dangers of getting too closely aligned with these opposition groups in syria. Well, said. Thank you very much for joining us. Thank you. Well, its like time for a look of online poll reports. Is there any reason to prolong the war on terror terror without using all our resources. Check it out, 91 percent said no. Pretty overwhelming. The other issue on obamas agenda is Climate Change. In new york he attended a meeting on Climate Change. He wants them to take more aggressive steps on the matter. We will do our party part and well help developing nations do theirs. But we can only succeed in combating Climate Change if we are joined in this effort by every nation. Developed and developing alike. Nobody gets a pass. World leaders there pledged to spend billions of dollars to take better care of the planet although none of the pledges were binding and china argued for it and other countries do release more heat trapping pollution. After the president attended that he attended a Initiative Conference where he said he will, quote, never apologize for protecting the safety of the american people. And the after landing in new york, and exiting his manner helicopter, the commanderinchief excluded marines with a styrofoam cup in his hand which offended some veterans. Up next, president obama receiving bipartisan support for his decision for air strikes over syria except for a a few you unhappy democrats. House Committee Chairman is up next. Force force well, coming here in moments, the president remains committed to his no boots on the ground strategy, but how long will that last now that hes expanded air strikes in syria. Retired army general is here. American victims of the terrorist against a major financier and the corporate is based in a country thats part of the president s antiIslamic State coalition. In the beginning of the journalist cheryl will join us. But despite last weeks bipartisan vote to arm syrians to fight the terrorist organization some prominent democrats are calling for another vote to authorize air strikes in syria. Senators are urging them to bring members back to debate on the topic. Joining me now chairman of the committee. Congressman, thanks for joining us. Are we going to see john boehner or somebody call back in the house of representatives . Im not sure, tom. But it has taken us seven months now to even get to the point where were attacking isis from the air. And for those of us who have watched this unfold and watch this relatively small terrorist organization gain more ground and more time than any other terrorist organization in history and watch the failure of response, for us to hit them from the air as they were going town by town across iraq, it is frankly amazing to me that we have had such a little effort so late in the game. 176 air strikes up until yesterday. We had 118,000 when could you wait was invaded that destroyed 47 divisions. So for those that have watched this and called hearings and called for a response were just disappointed that it is so little too late. And i think the focus Going Forward has to be getting a robust response and finally arming the kurds who as of today still dont have the types of heavy weapons they need, antimissile, you know antitank missiles, artillery, long range more tars. And they are our friends. And were supposed to be supporting them. But go back congressman. In all due respect, the president didnt want to do anything. Right. The. The public was they kept saying were war weary we dont want to get involved. Its a civil war. Its none of our business. Until the beheadings came along. And i presume if youre like most of us youve never seen a public shift so quickly on this topic. But, tom, if youre in leadership, your responsibility is not to let something get to the point where youve got a terrorist organization overrunning two countries where you dont you dont have them grabbing the central bank out of the second largest city in iraq mosul, and taking half a billion dollars. The point is that we had an opportunity to use drones in the same way that we use drones in afghanistan or yesmen to hit these targets on the ground. And theyre inviting targets. I mean, yo
