the first time that hagar tries to run away. god says to her, no, go back. i can't imagine how hard that must have been for her to hear those words, feeling that she would only be mistreated and not really have a life of quality. if they went back, they knew there would be struggle. but hagar talks about that she felt seen by god, the god of the universe. hagar returned to sarah and had a son, ishmael. years later, abraham was again visited by god, who proclaimed sarah would concede. the promise would finally be fulfilled. when god comes to tell abraham that he will have this son. sarah is in the tent and she overhears this promise. sarah scoffed at that and laughed and she, like all of us, struggled with trusting the lord about that. and she thought, you know, how how am i going to have a baby now? i'm too old. sarah's story is one of the only times in scripture
