Nobody knows better than those to which really happening at the southern border. Plus president obamas talk Economic AdvisorAustan Goolsbee is here with his take. Hello and welcome to fox news night. Im Shannon Bream washington. First, we have talked in coverage tonight. Trace gallagher following latebreaking reaction to the abortion firestorm, but correspondent Gillian Turner gives us off first, as its not just virginia attending to expand access to lateterm abortions. Good evening, jillian. Its done in cases where there may be safir deformities. There may be a fetus thats nonviable. In this particular example, if a mother is in labor, i can tell you exactly what happened. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if thats what the mother of the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mothers. North of himself as a pediatric neurologist and his comments garnered swift and exposed to pushback from republican lawmakers and prolife groups. This is infanticide, tweeted national right to life, but a northam spokesman clarifies the comments only pertain to instance where the fetus isnt viable or has severe deformities. The debate ignited this week with a built aiming to limit lateterm abortions. Third trimester goes to 40 weeks. To the end of the third trimester. I dont think we have a limit in the bill. The bill was defeated but its drafters garner criticism when they acknowledged it would ease restrictions on abortions form and all the way through labor and delivery. My bill would allow that, yes. The virginia bill is similar to one passed last week and your consignment to law by Governor Andrew Cuomo who ordered the World Trade Center lit pink in celebration. Its part of a growing trend that kicked off last year left legislatures across the nation to strengthen abortion rights. This year, so far, new mexico, massachusetts, rhode island have been through new laws. In 2018, 29 states passed 80 separate laws making access to abortion easier. Outpacing 15 states that adopted just 27 new restrictions to abortion and family planning. A recent poll finds only 15 of americans believe abortion should be available any time during a pregnancy. One of the new democratic houses first actions of bill to repeal the Hyde Amendment which bans any federal funding for abortion. Vice president pence said its a nonstarter. President donald trump will veto any bill that weakens protections for human lives. Statehouses in indiana, kentucky, north dakota, and louisiana are among those currently seeking to restrict abortion. Through proposed laws are ongoing lawsuits. That includes a utah proposal to essentially ban abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Ultimately the issue may rise to the Supreme Court but even with conservative majority thanks to Justice Brett kavanaugh, there are signs the court may not be ready to revisit roe v. Wade just yet. Shannon. Shannon Gillian Turner, thank you very much. Now even before Governor Northams comments today, outrage over Democratic Leaders pushing the boundaries on lateterm abortions was on the rise. Some surprising places. Trace gallagher is following a doll for us. Good evening, trace. Good evening, shannon. For clarity the Reproductive Health act makes new york the most permissive state in the nation for abortion procedures if the mothers physical health is threatened, the fetus can be aborted up to a full term. The procedure is no longer limited to doctors. Physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, and midwives can also perform nonsurgical abortion. The bill now moves abortion from the new york criminal code into Public Health law. Actress patricia heaton, best known for her work Everybody Loves raymond tweeted everything kermit because noah was arrested, convicted and jailed for is now legal in new york except in new york you dont even have to be a doctor. Nice work, governor quota. Because nell is serving life in prison for murdering babies who survived abortion and dean cain is very familiar with gauze now. Hes the lead actor and executive producer of amazon primes new drama gosnell. The worst thing i learned was what takes place during a lateterm abortion. I didnt have any idea. I thought it was a pretty knowledgeable guy. Its gruesome. Its the kind of thing you will learn if you watch the film. A veteran of more than 130 films including diehard, actor robert dobbie, wonders where the outrages. Listen to him. We need to have a national uproar on this right now. This cannot be continued. I wonder if alexandria ocasiocortez is okay with this. A woman. Would you abort your bb at nine months . You understand the ramifications of this . Happy days actor and conservative scott bayeux tweeted walls are not immoral. Full team abortions are. He tweeted the now prevalent i heart new york with an unborn baby in place of the heart and conservatives outside the world of entertainment are also criticizing the abortion law in new york, including politicians and priests. Look. Lets say a woman is beat up and shes eight months pregnant. Up until now, that would have been murder of the child as well. Thats no longer the case, according to this no, its not. As Gillian Turner mentioned earlier, when Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a law, he ordered one World Trade Center to shine pink, deeming it a historic victory for women. There was no mention of who stands to lose. Shannon. Shannon Trace Gallagher on the west coast, thank you very much. All right, 81 of americans think abortion should be illegal in the last remotes of pregnancy. Thats according to a 2018 gallup poll, compared to the 13 who think it should be legal. The remaining 4 say it all depends. So lets bring in our group tonight. Planned parenthood director of political, negations, erica sackin. See you on president of concerned women for america, penny penny nance. White house correspondent at the daily caller, saagar enjeti. Welcome to all of you. Glad to have you. You talked to the president a short time ago. What did he say . Stick i asked the president about governor rhythms comments. He said he was shocked. He thought it was good person based on discussions with him. I asked what he thought it was infanticide. Its not something he was willing to delve into but what he did say is, he referenced comments from the 2016 debates in which he said democrats would literally rip a baby out of the woman he thought that this really exemplified that policy. He predicted to me this would help the Prolife Movement writ large because he said people are so outraged about lateterm abortion legislation. Shannon i want to read with the governor said today and hes pushing back tonight on the characterization of what he said. She was talking about if a lateterm abortion, apparently the woman is in labor, theres a lateterm abortion, its not successful, the baby in some way survives. He said, to clarify, its about severely disabled or nonviable babies. He said if it does, it would be delivered. It would be kept comfortable. And resuscitated if thats what the mother and the family desired and then there would be a discussion between the physician and mother about what to do next. Erica, to most people, they hear that and theyre going to hear a child has survived a delivery and now theres going to be a discussion about what to do with it. We are not talking about abortion. We are talking about alive. Survived the procedure. I covered Kermit Gosnell for a month. Thats what hes in jail. I think even Governor Northam is clarified that he wasnt talking about abortion. He was talking about circumstances where a woman may have unwanted pregnancy and then finds out later in the pregnancy that it wont be viable, it wont survive the womb. When we look at when lateterm abortions happen, the vast maturity of abortions in this country actually happen quite early in pregnancy. If they do happen later, its almost exclusively because a Womans Health is at risk, womans life is at rest, or because her pregnancy wont be viable. In fact, in new york, thats what happened to the woman who started the coalition to pass the new york law. It was a wanted pregnancy and she found a very late unfortunately that her baby wouldnt survive outside the womb. She made the decision she felt was right for her and wanted to make sure that other people in her state could actually get the medical care they needed in their hometown into that having to travel outside the state. Shannon can we be clearer if a baby does survive, as was the case in Kermit Gosnell, if the baby survives a lateterm attempted abortion, should the baby received care at that point . Absolutely, and if a baby is born alive, he does receive care. At the end of the day, these bills arent about that. With the bills due is in new york and rhode island, it says of roe vs. Wade falls, is overturned, which as weve seen is more and more likely, women will still be able to access abortion safely and legally. In virginia, the bill actually doesnt even go that far. All it says is that it repeals restrictions that are medically unnecessary, like waiting periods. So women can make their own decisions about if and when they want to become parents. Shannon we heard the sponsor of that bill when she was pushed and asked about this, she said even if the woman is in dilation, showing that she is about to have a baby, she said in her own words that the bill would allow this abortion to move forward. I completely disagree with that characterization of these bills. These are infanticide bills. The bill that didnt pass, barely didnt get out of committee. It wouldve allowed for abortion, as she characterized, up until birth. I want to be very clear about what happens. The job of an abortionist, these arent doctors. They are abortionists, to make sure the baby dies before she gets out of the birth canal. Lateterm abortion is done in two ways, either through dismemberment or through partialbirth abortion where the skull is crushed or both. There is a little bit of chance that a baby can still be breathing but usually not. What he is characterizing is a delivery. Sometimes in cases where theres a problem with the mother, theres an early delivery, in that case there is care given to that baby. Thats not what they were talking about. They were talking about, kathy trans solos bill. Unfortunate Governor Northam has gone from a compassionate pediatrician to a soulless politician. He either needs to apologize, walk it back, or resign. Shannon he is a pediatric neurologist. He tweeted ive devoted my life to caring for children and any insinuation of otherwise is shameful and disgusting. We are talked about what he said. He needs to come out and condemn kathy trans bill. I look forward to that tomorrow. I will look for it on twitter. Shannon something that i thought was interesting. A man wrote a piece about this in the National Review and said the numbers, and i confirmed this with cdc, he said ive always heard of these 20plus lateterm abortions are extremely rare. They are a small percentage of overall abortions. Apparently the numbers, 15,000 or more of these happen in the u. S. Every year. He said thats more than the people who die from gun homicide violence. Both of those are serious conversations we need to be having. First i want to clear something up. There is no such thing as abortion up until birth. None of these bills, and you wouldnt be against that . Its not how medical science works. Just tell me. Its not how medical science works and its not in any of the bills. Im sorry but i really have to say that in these conversations we are forgetting about the women involved. When youre talking about a woman its not medically necessary. She might die or her health is at risk. You are blowing smoke. Her pregnancy will never be viable. It shouldnt ever be the case where you dont think it should ever be legal. Im trying to have a conversation about this. Its an important conversation to have in this country for a woman who is making a very difficult and personal decision about whether and when to become apparent. It shouldnt be up to a politician in washington to tell her what to do. Shannon one thing we can agree on is someone whos facing this in the third trimester, its not a pleasant situation for anyone involved and its got to be one thats wrought with a lot of consideration. 15,000 people a year apparently in this country are going through that. Most americans wanted to be more rare than that. What i saw from the president was theres a lot of discussion ive seen about whether, he had a real look of disgust whenever he was talking about this. Seemed to strike a nerve with him. I was surprised with the level of seriousness he gave it whenever he was making those comments. Shannon seems like these bills are doing one thing firing people on both sides to be more active in the conversation and legislation both sides of this so well see if it winds up at the Supreme Court and what happens there. Thank you for a conversation about it. Tomorrow possible president ial spoiler. Howard troops will be in seattle. Progressive Group Planning on protesting his event. The former starbucks sion stopping no accusing the Democratic Party of overreacting today. Kristin fisher is following the 2020 campaign trail to my. Shes got the latest. Democrats have been relentless in their criticism of Howard Schultz. Today in an interview on fox news, he sounded more divided than ever. If iran is a democrat which i would not do, i would have to be disingenuous, given the platform they are moving towards which is a level of government takeover of health care, government takeover of free college for everyone, a job for everyone. Its not realistic. Its not what youd expect to hear from a lifelong democrat, but Howard Schultz says he left the party because it was moving too far left on issues like taxes and health care. Case in point, 2020 contender Kamala Harris and her plan to provide medicare for all which could mean the end of private health insurance. Bottom line and the most important is that everyone have access to health care. Thats the goal. Thats the purpose for me supporting the policy of medicare for all. To come out with the suggestion that we are going to eliminate, eradicate the insurance industry, is just its so false. The democrats are creating a false narrative in the same way that President Trump created a false narrative by saying that the mexicans were going to pay for the wall. Its not truthful. Democrats say schultz isnt being truthful to himself if he thinks an independent run motel President Trump. Our goal is to defeat donald trump and in my view, anything that gets in the way of that do not help donald trump. Thats inexcusable. At least my obituary wont be he was the one who gave us donald trump. Bloomberg has promised that if he runs, he will run as a democrat but that wasnt enough for congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez who tweeted today why dont people ever tell billionaires who want to run for president that they need to work their way up or that maybe they should start with city council first. Schultz is advising democrats to maybe stay away from the very thing that made him a billionaire. I think the democrats need a little bit less caffeine right now is when i think. Remember, schultz hasnt announced hes running. Hes only said that hes considering running. Imagine, shannon, what the response would be if he actually decides to throw his hat into the ring. Shannon everyone goes decaf at that point. [laughter] kristin, thank you very much. Breaking news tonight the democrats and republicans, are they ready to make a deal over the border wall .
