Trade advisor Peter Navarro wrote a january 28th memo that circulated around the west wing. He laid out the seriousness of the virus and its impact on the United States, but the president just a few days ago when asked said he didnt know about the memo. Well the New York Times reports that he did. Deputy press secretary in a statement to fox news wrote in part, quote, President Trump took bold action to protect americans and unleash the full power of the federal government to curb the spread of the virus, expand testing capacities and expedite Vaccine Development when we had no true idea of the level of transmission or asymptomatic spread. The president announced he will have a Bipartisan Commission, think of it as a task force focused on getting the country back to normal. A possible date floating around inside the white house, may 1st. Im going to have to make a decision and i only hope to god that it is the right decision, but i would say without question it is the biggest decision i have ever had to make. At a briefing, the president said he will ultimately listen to science. If may 1st needs to be pushed back, he said hes happy to do so after consulting with the experts. He will make the announcement on tuesday here at the white house. Jon . Jon david spunt at the white house, thank you. Meantime, the pentagon awarding its First Defense production act contract. The project calls for the production of 39 million of the essential n 95 masks over the next three months. This as thousands of icu beds at military makeshift hospitals across the country remain empty with healthcare workers saying there is a bigger need for more doctors, nurses and supplies at local hospitals. Lucas tomlinson is live from the pentagon with the latest. Jon, the pentagon will announce which companies will receive that 133 Million Dollars contract. Theres a shortage of protective equipment across the country, but appears that theres a surplus of Military Hospital beds. Dire predictions last month and this morning the new york Governor Cuomo reminded us. The cdc was projecting that more than half the population would be infected. They were talking about 2. 4 million to 21 Million People being hospitalized. We only have 925,000 beds, in the United States of america. In new york, the hospital ship comfort and Javits Center are mainly empty. Few hundred patients are at the Javits Center in midtown. The hospital ship mercy is only treating 15 patients right now in l. A. The pentagon is now sending hundreds of doctors and nurses into new yorks hospitals. What were seeing is that inside new york city, many of the hospitals are still able to manage the workload, but theyre suffering from doctors getting sick or nurses or capacity, so the request has been rather than to try and always move the patients to you when we have gaps, can you move the doctors to us . Speaking of sending the doctors into action, the u. S. Air force said today it has a new transport Isolation System for the first time to evacuate three American Contractors infected with covid in afghanistan to an air force base in germany friday. Despite the good news, the u. S. Military says it still suffers from a shortage of coronavirus tests. Mr. Secretary, why cant you test every sailor before he or she goes to sea . Again, with the limited capacity, the current tests will show a considerable amount of falsenegatives. We dont believe that is the best way to allocate testing resources. Secretary mccarthy says hes concerned about the next Aircraft Carrier to deploy thats the uss nimitz supposed to go to the pacific to relieve the virus ridden Theodore Roosevelt who just today said it has another hundred cases on board this summer. Jon . Jon thank you, lucas. The u. S. Now surpassing italy becoming the nation with the worlds highest number of coronavirus deaths. More than 20,000 people in our country have been killed by the virus, but there is a glimmer of hope. The rate of new cases reported each day seems to be decreasing. Steve harrigan is live outside the cdc headquarters in lath with that story. In atlanta with that story. Jon, we have been watching these numbers climb all day when it comes to the death toll, stunning now, surpassing 20,000. Just five days ago the u. S. Death toll was 10,000. So it has doubled in just five days. The u. S. Now surpassing italy as the country with the most deaths from this virus. Another record set on friday, single death toll 2108 also a record so far. The former head of the cdc says in order to defeat this virus, once and for all, the u. S. Needs to do four things. Test wisely, isolate safely, Contract Trace completely and quarantine comfortably. If we can do those four things, we will be able to come out much sooner and much more safely, but we have to do them very well or well be stuck either staying home longer or coming out, it explodes again and we have to come back in again. One other thing that the virus is changing, college admissions. Number of colleges now saying they will drop the requirement for the sat or the act standardized tests for new applicants. Number of those exams have had to be cancelled for the virus. Now at least 50 colleges and universities including Davidson Williamson am hurst say those tests will be optional for next years applicants. Back to you. Jon thank you, steve. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo pushing back after new york city pay your bill de blasio mayor bill de blasio announced schools been closed for the rest of the academic year. Cuomo says how long schools will remain shut comes from his office. We are in midtown manhattan with more on that. Jon, Governor Cuomo says he will not be making a decision on schools until he has coordinated with the rest of the state which is very different from what mayor de blasio said earlier in the day. Take a listen. To tell you we cannot bring our schools back for the remainder of this school year is painful, but i can also tell you it is the right thing to do. Thats the mayors opinion. I value it. I value laura kerns opinions, steve ballones opinion and george latimers opinion, but the decision will be coordinated among all of them. He didnt close them. He cant open them. Meantime cuomo says new york has reached its apex. It is still first in the nation for the most cases. More than 180,000 now surpassing 8600 deaths. Daily coronavirus deaths are also up slightly at 783. But still below the apex. New jersey follows with more than 54,000 cases, and michigan is third with more than 22,000. The crisis taking a toll on new york citys 911 system. Operators receiving a call just about every 15 seconds. The Fire Department averaging more than 5500 ambulance requests per day. That surpasses the total call volume that happened on 9 11. Jon, back to you. Jon thank you. Millions of catholics in italy been celebrating one of the holiest days of the christian calendar in their homes, as that nations nationwide lockdown is extended until may 3rd. This as pope francis live streams an easter vigil from a near empty st. Peters basilica. Amy kellogg has more from florence. The government knows how hard it is on people at this point to stay put, it being easter weekend, italians want to be out and about visiting friends and family, but the plea is out there to just stay home, hang in there a bit longer, at least now until april 3rd, when the lockdown is scheduled to be lifted. This as pope francis gives his Easter Vigil Service in an empty st. Peters basilica and authorized a special streaming presentation of the shroud, the burial cloth many believe was that of jesus as it has a figure of crucified man on it. There were apparently thousands of requests to see it and pope francis said quote we see the faces of so many ill brothers and sisters especially those alone. Prayers were sent to the shroud for an end to the coronavirus pandemic. The shroud had been invoked during a 16th century plague in milan. The pope gave good friday mass yesterday. He has been talking about the priests, 60 of whom have died some in the line of duty ministering to the sick and doctors over 100 of them who have died along with nurses who have died. Hes called them the saints next door. Finally, despite the lockdown, a wedding did take place in rome. City hall made an exception. Guests were limited to two, maid of honor, and the best man, the couple slid down their masks to kiss. The bride did her own hair and had to resort to using some fake flowers, but at least this couple managed to figure out a way to tie the knot. Jon . Jon amy kellogg thank you. Now to an update on coronavirus in the rest of the world. South korea taking drastic measures strapping tracking devices to the wrists of people who disobey quarantine mandates. Spain now with the highest number of coronavirus cases in europe and second in the world to the u. S. Ryan chilcote has more. Jon, u. S. Surpassed both spain and italy now as the epicenter of the pandemic. Here in europe more than 900 people passed away from the coronavirus just in the last 24 hours. The death toll is expected to exceed 10,000 on sunday. The concern is that some people this weekend may ignore the National Lockdown. Its been in place for three weeks, but it is easter, the easter weekend. A lot of people want to go outside. It is very hot here. The government asking people to stay at home. Meanwhile, Boris Johnson, the first world leader to test positive for the virus is finishing his first week in the hospital. The Prime Minister Spokesman Says hes going for short walks in the ward, playing soduku, Binge Watching the lord of the rings and enjoying scans of his unborn child that his fiance is sending him. Sky news is reporting that Boris Johnson has been telling his friends he owes his life to the hospital staff. He was in the icu. Hes out of that now and getting better. Meanwhile the queen has just issued her first easter address in her 68 yearlong reign, telling the country no one has cancelled easter, but it is important to stay home to keep others safe. We know that coronavirus will not overcome us. As dark as death can be, particularly for those suffering with grief, light and life are greater. Saturday the u. K. s Health Secretary said the government thinks the lockdown is starting to have an effect in flattening the curve, but the peak could still be as much as a couple of weeks away. Jon, the u. K. s Health Secretary has said that the social distancing measures, the National Lockdown appears to be helping, that they appear to be flattening the curve, but the peak could still be a couple of weeks away. And ministers here had been hinting that the lockdown, which is set to expire next week could be extended perhaps into may. Thats what italy has already done, and that is what spain is warning its people it may do as well. Jon . Jon ryan chilcote, ryan, thank you. So we talk a lot about flattening the curve and that appears to be happening across the u. S. Even as new numbers from Johns Hopkins show an increase in covid19 cases. Many Health Experts suggest widespread testing as a way to guarantee the safe reopening of the u. S. Economy. But is that feasible . Joining us now the dean of National School of tropical medicine at Baylor College of medicine and co director of the texas childrens hospital. Doctor, we passed 20,000 covid19 deaths in this country today. Can you give us any good news . Yeah, its going to be a little bit more pain, though, before the good news comes because ultimately and by the way, this is all based on models, and there are several different models that are out there. One of the leading ones is at the institute for Health Metrics and evaluation in seattle, washington, and they are projecting right now around 60,000 american deaths, from now until maybe the beginning of august. What you are going to see now were now at the peak, at the worst part of our epidemic when around 2,000 americans a day are dying. What that means is covid19 right now is the leading cause of death in the United States. Its just surpassed Heart Disease and cancer. Thats pretty rough news. And what youre going to see is a sharp peak going up and then it is going to go down sort of like this, from now until around june. So we still have, unfortunately, a lot of deaths ahead of us in the month of may, and then the hope is that as we move into the summer, things will really flatten out as you say, and then i think we can have a pretty serious discussion, and people can feel more comfortable about going back to work, without with not the same level of risk of transmitting the virus. Jon right, you mentioned going back to work, and you also mentioned months like august. I mean, people want to get back to work a lot sooner than that. How are we going to handle that if the virus is still out there and still potent . Is everybody going to have to be tested . Yes, so the president now as he says he will come out on tuesday and kind of make that very tough decision. I think its probably going to pan out that its a little too soon right now to go back to work, given that we still have a lot of deaths every day for the month of may, but i think as we move to june, there may be that glimmer of hope where we can think about it. Then were going to have to chart a very careful path and figure out how we actually do it, in terms of not only do we test everybody, but what are we testing for . Do we test them for previous exposure to the virus, meaning that they have antibodies and potentially resistant to new infections or do we test them for ongoing infections or some combination of the two . This is going to be a very carefully orchestrated dance, and were going to need the best minds in our country to kind of put it all together. I dont want to kind of jump the gun and prescribe right now what we have to do. I think that will be a bit presumptuous, but you can anticipate there is going to be a heavy component of an extra layer of testing as people go back to work across the summer in june, july and august. Jon weve already reported that new york leads the nation in the number of deaths but there are potential hot spots brewing in a lot of other places. Delaware, south dakota, maryland, rhode island and pennsylvania all have seen high sevenday increases in the number of cases as well, the percentages i should say, 222 in delaware. South dakota is seeing a 218 sevenday increase, maryland 194 , rhode island 189, and pennsylvania 183. Why is it that certain states are seeing such extreme numbers, doctor . Its because the extreme numbers are when the city or the city or the state first encounters this virus. Remember, it goes up very sharply and then tails off slowly. So what you are seeing is new york and new jersey was the first. Thats why they account for about half the cases in the United States. And then its moving into other cities, that previously hadnt seen the virus before. It accelerates very quickly. And thats when you really have to worry about that surge as everyone calls it, when you have large numbers of patients who are hospitalized in the icu. For instance, the peak here in texas is about a week after or two weeks after what you are seeing in new york. Jon doctor from the Baylor College of medicine, we appreciate your information. Were all for, you know, continuing to provide relief, but we want to get the money out thats already been promised and make sure the next tranche of dollars goes to the areas hardest hit particularly in minority communities this morning the Top Republicans in the house and senate slammed the democrats efforts calling it a reckless threat to continue blocking jobsaving funding unless we renegotiate unrelated program which are not in similar peril. While adding this will not be congresss last word on covid19, but this Crucial Program needs funding now. American workers cannot be used as political hostages. This comes after the white house agreed friday to bipartisan negotiations over the relief package. Already a lot of disagreement what that should include. Today the heads of the National Governors association weighed in on saying the federal government needs to provide at least 500 billion dollars to the states to make up for revenue losses during this crisis. Jon . Jon garrett tenney, thank you. Presumptive democratic president ial nominee joe biden dropping some hints about his potential pick for Vice President. The former vp now saying hes likely to nominate a woman to his running mate. Jacqui heinrich is live in new york with more on the swirling speculation. Good evening, jon. The Biden Campaign hasnt committed to a time line for the vp pick, but the former Vice President told donors theres discussion about making an announcement earlier than usual. That would typically be mid to late summer, and some reports indicated a vp vetting committee could come as soon as next week, but the Biden Campaign told fox news today the vp Selection Process is expected to begin mid april. Bidens already committed to selecting a woman. Hes regularly praised figures like california senator Kamala Harris and georgias stacy abrams. Theres also speculation hes considering nevada senator and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer among others. Meantime Trumps Campaign is taking aim online accusing bidens family of profiting from relationship with chinese officials and suggesting he was against Coronavirus Travel restrictions on china. Heres the ad, then the speech that part was taken from. All travel will not stop the president is right the travel restriction on china bought the country time. Any and all travel from europe or any other part of the world may slow it but as we have seen it will not stop it and travel restrictions based on favoritism and politics rather than risk will be counterproductive. Biden goes on to say the disease could infect every nation and any person on the planet. The campaign told fox it is also incredibly revealing that this ad comes from a president who spent weeks buying the Chinese Governments spin about containment despite joe biden publicly warning him not to. A controversy over a clip in that ad that shows former washington governor gary lock, critics saying it depicts him as a chinese official. The Trump Campaign has defended that clip saying it places biden in beijing in 2015 with the hunter biden trip which they say the younger biden used to further his own interests. Jon . Jon jacqui heinrich, thank you. Ahead, were going to asking a u. S. Attorney how criminals are trying to take advantage of folks during this pandemic. Jon attorney general william barr and the department of justice ramping up efforts to prosecute individuals who are trying to take advantage of the covid pandemic. Im jon scott. This is a special edition of the fox report. The bottom of the hour, if you are just joining us, according to our next guest, there are a few types of potential fraud you need to be especially aware of because of the pandemic. Scammers who pretend to be government agents, pricegouging of medical supplies, Bogus Charities looking for your money, fraudulent Stimulus Fund requests, fake covid19 tests, and fraudulent billing by medical providers. Joining us now, u. S. Attorney for the Northern District of alabama, jay town. Jay, its a good news and bad news situation, i guess. There are on the good news side of it major drops in traffic and person stops, some areas cops are saying those stops are down 92 . Thefts and burglaries are down. Jail bookings are down 47 . This according to a study that usa today did. The bad news, youve got domestic disturbances and violence up anywhere from 10 to 30 percent. Give us your perspective. Yeah, i think with the number of people with the stay at home orders that were seeing across the country right now, theres no official data no official crime data that i can cite right now, but were seeing a downturn in calls for service, but we still need to warn against Domestic Violence events and overdosing, the use of illegal narcotics. It is very important while people are staying at home, practicing safe, sound and social distancing that they dont engage in illegal conduct while they are at the house. Jon it is hard to believe that people would take advantage of a time like this to try to, you know, scam people out of their money, but that is happening, and you know, your organization, the fbi, the department of justice, youre looking out for that kind of thing. Tell us what people are trying. Yeah, theres two main fractions of human beings out there. What i will say though, attorney general barr and his proactive leadership from the beginning has really gotten ahead of whats coming as far as the coronavirusrelated fraud that we are seeing across the country. The first thing that we did was we established a coronavirus coordinator in every u. S. Attorneys office across the country, those cvcs are coordinating every day, sharing crime intelligence, so if it is happening in new york or new mexico, we can look for it here in the state of alabama. This is why you build partnerships with a forethought, project safe neighborhoods, project garden, you have heard us talk about that in the department for last three years, now were able to leverage those relationships that weve built and theres no daylight between local, state, and federal Law Enforcement. Were seeing a number of different types of fraudulent schemes. Were all expecting Stimulus Funding that came out of the cares act a few weeks ago. We have our tax returns coming soon. The federal government is not going to call you and ask you for cash or a credit card so they can speed that up or your bank routing information or your Social Security number. Chances are that we have it. Were seeing calls, texts, emails that are phishing scams or they have some sort of mal ware or ransom ware attached to the link thats embedded. Number of robo calls were seeing, pricegouging, hoarding, fraudulent billing by medical providers that you mentioned earlier. Every scam and scheme that these fraudsters can come up with, we are seeing. Were also seeing some other types of crimes that we didnt expect to see, and it is sad that we are. Attempted were seeing infected individuals or people who arent infected but claim to be breathing or spitting on members of Law Enforcement, terroristic threats which is a felony in most states, assault on Law Enforcement. Were also seeing our children, you know, theyre at home, Distance Learning right now and are susceptible they are on devices all day long. Parent, it is very smart, dont wash away your common sense. Were all sort of practicing great personal hygiene right now, but lets exercise some great cyber and digital hygiene as well. As it relates to our men and women of the badge, i think what we are seeing in our country right now, there are great many heroes coming to the forefront. What i will say about the men and women of the badges, its always been a dangerous business for them, whether its covid19 or ms 13, Law Enforcement has always been a dangerous business. We should take care to remember that. They have shown their medal during this pandemic. Jon yes, thank our local Law Enforcement, thats for sure. Jay town u. S. Attorney in the Northern District of alabama. Thank you. If you have questions about scams or fraud during the pandemic, you can call the National Centers for disaster fraud hot line. 8667205721. There are a few international cases of domestic dogs and cats being diagnosed with the disease, after contact with an infected human. Dr. John howell warns the evidence in those cases is weak, but he says pet owners should play it safe if they are sick. Even though were reasonably sure that you cannot get it from pets and pets cant get it from you, theres no sense, you know, playing the odds and kissing your pet on the mouth which a lot of people do, which is just not safe to do when youre sick. Jon for more on this, lets talk to dr. John howell, president of the american veterinary medical association. Dr. Howell, so Many Americans are staying home right now, frolicking with their pets, they have a lot of time on their hands, and they all want to know what is the danger of pets getting infected . Well, currently at this time, there have been no cases of coronavirus infecting dogs or cats in america. So overall, i would say its pretty your pets are pretty safe. Jon the idea that this virus might have come from one of the wet markets in china, transmitted from animals to humans, has a lot of people concerned. Dr. Anthony fauci who has become sort of the face of the battle against the virus in this country is extremely concerned about it. Listen to what he had to say. It boggles my mind how when we have so many diseases that emanate out of that unusual human animal interface that we dont just shut it down. I dont know what else has to happen to get us to appreciate that. Jon is there the i mean, in your world, if you could wave a magic wand and shut down the wet markets in china, would you do . Would you do that . Yes, i would. Although the genetic analysis of the virus suggests that it came from bats, china has not really given us enough information to really prove that it came from those wet markets. However, those wet markets are the perfect medium for the transmission of disease, all kinds of disease. Jon there are a lot of americans right now who are adopting pets or fostering pets because so many of the shelters have had to close. They didnt have the staff to be able to run them. What kind of advice do you give people who are doing that, about the safety of these animals . So although the virus is not proven to pass from humans to pets, under natural circumstances, it would be advisable if youre ill to wear a mask, dont kiss or pat them on the mouth, not hug them and probably have another Family Member or someone else who can take care of the pet while youre ill. If youre not ill, there should be no worry at all. One important point to remember that pet hair and fur is porous and tends to trap viral particles. Unlike a smooth surface or countertop where you could spread the hair, pet hair does not spread the virus. It is very difficult on pet hair. Jon it is a good warning for all of us to remember to take care of our animals, those who are taking such good care of us at a difficult time. Doctor, we appreciate your time tonight. Thank you. Thank you. Jon straight ahead, Severe Weather, storms this easter weekend, we will tell you which states could be facing some weather trouble. Hey, can i. Jon Severe Weather slamming parts of the west coast earlier today, with more storms expected across the central u. S. And the south on easter sunday. Heavy rain causing a mudslide to crash into a nursing home in california. 23 patients evacuated. Luckily none of them injured. Firefighters had to place sandbags around that nursing home to keep it from flooding inside. That storm breaking several rainfall records in san diego county. Fox news meteorologist adam klotz has more on whats ahead. Adam . Adam well, jon, unfortunately, as we head through this easter weekend, really some big Severe Weather is going to be attacking portions of the southeast, already starting to see that as we take a look at our maps. Currently portions of texas, thats going to be a spot to watch, everything highlighted in the red, thats a tornado watch. We see severe thunderstorms already on the ground, winds up to 60 milesanhour as well as hail. As we continue through this evening, theres a high risk of seeing some tornadic activity, everything in the orange boxes, that includes san antonio stretching up to austin, all places to Pay Attention to. This entire air mass is going to drift off towards the east and by the time we get into easter sunday, we have a moderate risk of Severe Weather. Any time you see one of these red circles, thats a good chance of seeing some big tornadoes. Thats going to be an area from shreveport along i 20 into jackson and into alabama, possibly some very strong tornadoes either way winds up to 60 milesanhour, flash flooding, large hail, very strong gusty winds with this system. And even the spots that miss some of that tornadic activity, some severe thunderstorms, a lot of heavy rain, everywhere in that darker red shade, thats anywhere from 6 to 8 inches. Likely going to see some flash flooding in portions of northern alabama, getting up into eastern tennessee. Going to be very active for a lot of those areas for your easter sunday, and then you see a very defined line in the middle of the country, where it quickly falls cold on the back side of that. Jon, we could be talking about a little bit of Winter Weather. These are winter storm watches and warnings from the Northern Plains stretching up into wisconsin, the up of michigan, unfortunately here, jon, we are going to be feel dealing with all sorts of wild weather here throughout the rest of the weekend. Jon Winter Weather and storms on easter, with what a story, adam klotz, thank you. Helping those financially crushed by Coronavirus Closures and stay at home orders, food banks across the country are struggling to meet the overwhelming demand. Christina coleman is live in los angeles with that story. Christina . Jon, as jobless claims surge for the Third Straight week with nearly 17 million new claims filed since mid march, financially stressed people are turning to food pantries to help feed their families. Fortunately, thousands of volunteers nationwide are stepping up to help. A young group in utah organized a food pantry parade. Volunteers drove through neighborhoods and people placed food donations on the curb for them to collect. The donations will go to local food banks and pantries. Hoping it goes to families who need it and also to help feed those Little People who, you know, they dont know where their next meal is coming from. Thats what we are here for. Were here to help each other and help each other through this hard time. In south florida the united way teamed up with feeding south florida for the first Food Distribution drive to help those in need during this crisis. They anticipated having enough food to provide for more than 100 families. The reality is that before covid19 was even in our community, we had over 524,000 households in miami that were already struggling to make ends meet, living from paycheck to paycheck and on the edge of poverty. Cars could be seen waiting in long lines for miles for food banks here in los angeles, pittsburgh, miami and san antonio. San Antonio Food Bank hosted a mega Food Distribution event on thursday, and more than 6,000 families were given what amounted to 1 Million Pounds of food. However the high demand for Food Assistance right now is depleting resources at some food banks. The ceo of the san Antonio Food Bank fears they could run out of inventory by the end of the month. But volunteers there are still determined to help. Distribution like none we have ever had in the banks 40 year industry. Also in Washington State and hard hit louisiana the National Guard is helping with Food Packaging and distribution for people in need. Jon . Good evening im jon scott and this is a special two hour edition of the fox report. The u. S. Outbreak growing to more than half a million confirmed cases, global infections getting close or to 2 million and pence led a closed door meeting of the Coronavirus Task force as President Trump works to assemble a second task force focused on reopening the u. S. Economy. We have Fox Team Coverage on the latest response at home and abroad we begin with with steve heir began reporting live from centers for Disease Control headquarters in atlanta. Steve. Steve jon there are real concern about developing new hot spots in different parts of the country in the past one week 27 states are now reporting that the number of cases in their state has doubled thats all in just one week and when it comes to five states, that number is about 200 slightly under or just above those five states are delaware, about south dakota, yanked, rhode island, and pennsylvania. Real potential hot spots, and meantime the former head of the cdc says to defeat this virus, the u. S. Needs to do a much better job with contact tracing. Contact tracing were going need a whole group of people who are able to warn people that theyve been exposed. You want, you would want to get warned if theres a hurricane coming in the same way exposed this this it virus so you can protect yourself and about your family. Many states will be struggling l on sunday with how to balance social distancing with celebrating easter. Here in georgia, government has left it up to the pastors themselves to decide in texas and florida religious observations exempt from stay at home order so well with see how that goes in kansas theres been a real battle between governor and the state lawmakers to see whether or not groups of ten or more can meet on easter sunday. Jon, back to you. Jon steve, steve thank you. New york city mayor bill de blasio receiving pushback after announcing citys schools will e remain closed for the remainder of this academic year. Aishah has all of this from new york city. Aishah. Well jon two leaders are at odds right now over what to do with more than a million new york city students the governor says it is not up to mace your to make that decision to keep those schools closed through the rest of the year. The mayor, though, saying something else. He says hes trying to stop a resurgence. Having to tell you that we cannot bring our schools back for remaindzer of this school is year is painful. But i can also tell you its the right thing to do. Thats the mayors opinion. I value it. I value laura kern and steve and the opinion but this decision will be coordinated. We didnt close them and he cant open them. Cuomo also says new york has reached its apex it is still first in the nation for most cases more than 180,000 of them daily coronavirus deaths are up slightly at a 783 but still below apex new jersey follows with 54,000 cases michigan, is at third with more than 22,000, the crisis really taking a toll on cities response here. Com donate to make your onis line donation. From suburban boston molly line fox news. Jon molly line, molly, thank you. Nearly moopght ago the mayor of jacksonville, florida began issuing aggressive measures to try to stop the spread of coronavirus in that community. Today the state has more than 18,000 cases with with at least 533 dead but jacksonville cases are trending lower. Curry joins us now. Mayor curry why do you think your city is seeing less exposure less problem with coronavirus than the rest of the state at large . Good evening and thank you for having me. We as a community started to act early. I have been following this at a distance, and over a month ago even before we thirkted executive orders i was encouraging people not to shake hands. We werent using term social distancing back then but we havent heard of it but people were elbow bumping, and then i just moved aggressively to declare a state of emergency and shut down all concerts and then festivals. Over a month ago, with and have just issued order after order moved into an executive order weeks ago that said if your employees can work from home you need to allow them to work from home and then a couple of week ago we moved to a shutdown but for essentials, and i believe that people of jacksonville are taking this seriously and practicing if social distancing. And so far, we dont have large hospitalizations, the percentage of people that are positive based on those that are tested are about about 5 to 6 well below over metropolitan areas in the state. Jon im sure you took a lot of heat for those early calls to shut down businesses, et cetera was it worth it . The Public Health first, and public safety, and look, you know youre making the right decision qhs youre getting support for example, rather than gate everything i was reading seeing advice from physicians what you need to be able to test fast we have one of the first testing sites. I spoke to President Trumps team, they got us a federally set up testing site pretty quickly before many cities in the state because we asked early and moved aggressively. Governor helped us secure early on we asked a Field Hospital in the event we would need it a federal Field Hospital. So when youre making these Big Decisions early and youre asking your governor and your president for an theyre helping it gives you comfort that youre doing the right thing. Jon what about businesses . I mean, businesses have been hurt in your community as well as elsewhere. What specifically are you doing to help Small Businesses get become on their feet . We put up together a package pretty quick parter inned with vice star credit union. Local credit union, and the city is, Small Businesses are eligible for up to 50 Million Dollars in loans the city is willing to potentially pay down interest and principal up to 30 Million Dollars so for example, a Small Business can borrow up to 100,000 and if they retain certain employees all of their interest can be paid by the city and half of their a principle over a six year period. I was a Small Business owner before i did this my father was a Small Business owner, what they are experiencing right now is tragic. Theyve poured people pour their lives into these businesses. Its how they take care of their families, and this ghost of a virus is wipe withed out a national economy, local economy, and Small Businesses, so weve got to do everything, government, government forced a shutdown we had to save lives it is just our responsibility now to help people get back on their feet. Jon at the same time theres tendency to get things up and running again and doctors warn that that could cause a second wave of the virus. How are you going to know when its the right time to let everybody get back to work to get things back open again . Well clearly im watching President Trump and governor theyre speaking with with, obviously, National Health care experts. I speak with all of our local hospitalses anding physicians weekly often daily so im listening to them. Heres what i know we need based on everything ive read that National Scientists are saying. Were going to need to be able to test people rapidly, when we get back to work, so we can know that theyre positive quickly and isolate them. And were going to have to be able to trace who their contacts were. I think as a country we have to embrace that and jacksonville will pursue that with our medical community and i think local municipalities have to take some responsibility in this. Were closest to the people, and at once we begin to work on this, we reach out to our federal and state partners for help. Jon mayor curry jacksonville, florida, thanks for joining uses we wish you continued success battling this virus. Thanks. In the world Health Organization i believe they knew but didnt want to tell the world. And were going get to the bottom of it and well have reports and all of this. I can tell you that were constantly in touch with china were talking to china. Jon hello im jon scott and this is a special edition of the fox report. Its the bottom of the hour if youre just joining us President Trump hinting his administration might take action against the world Health Organization next week. Over its response to the coronavirus, this amid criticism over the agency close ties to china andization that it helped beijing down play of the extent of the outbreak and here to talk about the latest developments in the crisis National Spokes person for American College of americaning ifs you have your handle full. With coronavirus and a treating patients and outbreak in this country. But step back for just a moment. Do you want to make any comment on how the world Health Organization handled its handled the virus . Its hard to say. I mean, i cant personally say exactly what they down played what they didnt down play. What china really told them, what what china didnt tell them. I mean, we have our own organization here the centers for Disease Control, we are supposed to have people in the field in various areas i know there was funding cutback theyre supposed to be also looking at emerging Infectious Diseases around the world. So we all have a part to play in that. And this coulding some of our own organizations so jon some areas of the country are starting to see a flattening of the curve and you know well that thats going to to make americans say okay i can go out and, you know, mingle l i can start, you know, opening my business again. Theyre going to be demanding that what do you say to them . Inch well truthfully so by flattening the curve, we have with extended it it was technically down so that we didnt have a huge surge that would overwhelm our hospitals by keeping these mitigating measures as doctor fauci has so eloquently proposed and are working, thats the whole point of flattening the curve but its going to extend infection three to four weeks beyond that. So main part of flattening curve jon it was make sure we didnt overwhelm our Health System and we have to be very careful going back to that. I know in asia they have already seen second waves and surges as they have opened country, china hong kong, singapore and taiwan all of their came back home, and a lot that International Travel has been contradicting to resurgence of the virus so flattening curve didnt mean getting rid of the virus but it just meant lowering the surge so that you dont overwhelm our Health Care System. So we have to be very careful about how we open things up and part of that will be testing for antibodyies to see who has had it already and regular testing to say who has mild cases maybe we dont know about about or asymptomatic patients that could be staying at home now sost its a slippery slope. Literally. Jon theres been accusation that the world Health Organization minimized the threat based only information that a it was getting from china and that chinese were minimizing the threat. In the meantime, senator lindsay is graham among others is saying it might be time to withhold funding from that organize because of what has taken place. Listen. Next appropriation bill there wont be money for w. H. O. Im not going to support funding to w. H. O. Under current leadership theyve been deceptive and theyve been slow and theyve been chinese apology and failed miserably. Funding question aside this virus outbreak, this pandemic is going to fundamentally change the way hospitals and our entire medical system operates. Will it not . Yes. Absolutely. So theres a couple parts to that number one we need to bring it upon ourselves. We need to have our own pandemic tracking. We need to have ep deem deemologist out in the field part of our organization to start monoor toring potential emerging diseases for pandemics. Also weve moved our Health Care System into outis patients. Part of that is way that our health care is paid for. So theres many more facilities and procedures and things going out patient which is past our Hospital Systems to shrink and be unable to manage surge. I mean as the American College of Emergency Physicians are more than the 20 years ive been practicing has been going having a legislative congress in washington saying look we with cant handle surge during a busy flu season hospitals, supporter of hospitals slows ten years ago with their departments. Theyre struggling in rule areas now. So we need to shore up our Public Health system. We need to shore up our emergency medical Health System to be prepared for the next pandemic. Because there is going to be another one. There always is. Jon doctor lee yeah always is. We appreciate your insight. Thank you very much. Thank you. Jon Justice Department calling on fec to block a Chinese Government owned tell come from doing business in the United States over security concern. Here with more on that general retired general and fox news senior strategic analyst. General, what a is the problem here or the potential problem involving China Telecom . China telecom and are state own agency as in china which means they report to the Chinese Communist party. And these subsidieses are state hold agencies are conducting espionage inside the United States. The United States intelligence and government officials for years have been saying much about what im talking about here and its finally coming home to roost. Change is being made. The fec last year denied a license to china mobile aol another telecom subsidiary that wanted to do business in the United States. I think these two telecoms that we have here should cease to exist and contain routinely and steal ising intellectual property they have access to phone records, fiberoptic cables, et cetera, and theyre accessing our universities our about laboratories our corporations in terms of intellectual property, even access to Financial Planning which they have interest in because of what is taking place in the market. Merger and acquisition over Major Corporate decisions that has been going on if per yeas and it has got to stop and good news is jon, theres now because of this pandemic, and because of chinas contribution to it, and what theyve been doing in hong kong, theres a growing consensus so many in the United States and even now in europe that the previous policy of cooperation with a competitor which is what people describe china as, is change were now looking at china as predator that they really and policy has to change from one from cooperation only to confrontation and containment and that, i believe, is the direction that the United States and western democracy must move into. This is a fundamental question of values and you have to see reality it have. Theres concern that it hardware theyve been providing to American Consumers and companies could be filled with spyware. Brendan carr was federal Communications Commission talked about some of the challenges, some of the concerns on fox news at 9 00, listen. Fundamental question at fec is this Company Going to be subject to exploitation and control by the communist regime in china . If anything weve seen over the last couple of weeks with this coronavirus pandemic, the Chinese Communist ym is willing to take any action to further their go political agenda they pointed out theyre disappearing that you are own doctors, citizen journalist to hide the truth. You say doctor you say general keane that chinese are conducting a Disinformation Campaign about coronavirus. Yeah let me just say glad hes cool to this realization that our intelligence agencies and National Security officials have been saying for years. So good news there. A major, they are conducting Major Campaign to exploit 19 in terms of disinformation theyre trying to undermine Peoples Trust in their governments when it comes to the United States, what theyre saying is United States has a largest outbreak in a world and it is due to United States government. The second theyre theyre trying to do is erode the sanctions that the United States and others are opposed against china and they use humanitarian argument because the cd19. Last thing theyre doing and theyre still doing it, is to say that the United States caused the outbreak of this virus as a result of the military, the World Military game that took place in wuhan city back in october and it was the United States military that brought this virus to china and therefore to world that is part of the Disinformation Campaign that is alive and well theyre using social media, facebook, twitter, they have on twitter they have all english accounts theyre written in english and slang for people in the United States and planning media stories and media not just in the United States but throughout the world. And aggressive all in campaign which is what they normally do. This is not new. This is an extension of what they do. Theyre just taking advantage of the crisis. General we appreciate your time tonight. Thank you. Goods talking to you, jon. Jon on this date 50 years ago apollo 13 launched into space, and into history as a successful failure. It was nasas third Lunar Landing attempt or supposed to be but a couple of days into the mission and oxygen tank onboard exploded when octave quickly shifted into a fight to keep the three crew members alive. Heres retired astronaut jim level remembering that moment. With the explosion first we first heard it, i looked up at fred hayes to see if he knew what caused it and i can tell he had no idea. When i got down into demand mog l i saw a warning light on and my fuel cells just died. I realized that we were in serious trouble. Jon privileged to meet jim a couple of times what a hero after trip around moon crew eventually reentered earths atmosphere safely a few days later. Jon straight ahead, how the coronavirus pandemic is impacting the real estate market. Im your mother in law. And i like to question your every move. Like this left turn. Its the next one. I tell them, it may be your detergent. Thats why more dishwasher brands recommend cascade platinum. With the soaking, scrubbing and rinsing built right in. For sparklingclean dishes, the first time. Cascade platinum. Jon with millions of americans suddenly out of work because of the coronavirus pandemic, food banks are seeing Unprecedented Demand and some forced to wait when their car for hours an drivethru lines stretch on for miles Christina Coleman live in los angeles with more. Christina. Reporter jon, as jobless claim surge for the Third Straight week financially stressed people are turning to food pantries to feed their families fortunately thousands of volunteers nationwide are stepping up to help. Young Automotive Group in utah inspire people to donate food by organizing a food pantry parade, volunteers drove through neighborhoods and people placed food donation on the curb for them to collect and donation go through local food bank and pantry. I hope it goes to families you know who need it and also to help feed those Little People who you know they dont know where their next meal is coming from. Thats what were here for, you know were here to help each other and to help each through this hard time. And in south florida the united way teamed up with feeding south florida for their first distribution drive to help those in need during this crisis they anticipated having enough food to provide for more than 100 families. The reality is that before covid19 was even in our community, we had over 524,000 households in miami that were already struggling to make ends meet living from paycheck to paycheck, and on the edge of poverty. Reporter and cars waiting in incredibly long lines for miles for food banks here in los angeles pittsburgh, miami and san antonio, san Antonio Food Bank hosted a mega Food Distribution event on thursday. More than 6,000 families excuse me there. Within 6,000 families were given what amount ad to 1 Million Pounds of food, however, the high demanding for Food Assistance right now is depleting resources at some food banks and the ceo san Antonio Food Bank fears throat is dry. Thursday could run out of inventory by the end of the month so people just helping out as much as they can, jon. Sorry. Jon Christina Coleman good job getting through with that report. Christina, thank you. [laughter] Real Estate Industry is taking a hit. Stay is at home orders and social distancing are stopping buyers from touring homes in person. You have the open area for the kitchen, and what a kitchen this is. This is where you may want to hang out. Then we have a absolutely beautiful fireplace. Superlow right now too but Many Americans are now waiting to see how the economy looks on other side of this pandemic. That goes for both buying and selling. According to zillow new report the number of newly listed homes nation wide is down 27 from a year ago this month.
