Calling them the perfect setup for a flood of new cases. A major story on the political front as the New York Times reports that several prominent republicans including former president George W Bush say they will not support President Trumps reelection. We have Fox Team Coverage on all of the latest developments across the country. We begin with mark meredith. He is live at the white house. Mark. Reporter good evening, john. The white house says the American Economy is rebounding from coronavirus but the latest data shows there is still a threat from the virus here at home and abroad. The latest numbers show here in the United States 110 of thousand deaths 110,000 deaths. And when we look at the numbers globally, the death toll stands at over 400,000. There are concerns about cases in india and brazil. Americas Health Experts are watching to see if the protests over the past week could contribute to an increased infection rate. Dr. Anthony fauci said, quote, i get very concerned as do my colleagues in Public Health when they see these kinds of crowds, there is certainly a risk. I can say that with confidence. But 0 of course its not just te protests getting attention, Public Health officials are encouraging people to maintain social distancing whenever possible. The latest polls show President Trump faces an uphill battle this november, with former Vice President joe biden ahead of him by 7 points, outside the margin of error from the latest poll. The New York Times report that former president George W Bush does not plan to support the president s reelection campaign. Bush himself did not release the statement and the times does not say who their sources. But Trump Campaign is pushing back with a statement of their own. They say, quote, President Trump has the support of a Record Number of republicans across the country, he leads a united party and willed win in november. Former secretary of state colin powell says hell support joe biden come november. He supported both president obama and secretary Hillary Clinton in years past. And there is a lot of questions about what the campaign is going to look like Going Forward as the Republican National committee is still trying to figure out how their convention is going to work later on this summer. Jon. Jon mark, thank you. For more on the coronavirus resurgence warnings, lets bring in family and emergency medicine doctor, jeanette fis nesheiwat o is also a fox news contributor. Dr. Nesheiwat you heard the warning from dr. Fauci that protesting the Mass Gatherings in this era of coronavirus transmission is sort of a perfect storm for reinfection. Do you see it the same way . Yeah, i think dr. Fauci is absolutely correct. We have all the ingredients of a perfect storm as he says, the convergence of multiple threats to americans and to patients when you have thousands of people in close contact with one another, theres the concern of the super spreader, one person who has no symptoms spread urget to another person and before you know it you have a mini outbreak. Many of the protesters are traveling and will pick up the virus and bring it home. But the concern is how many people have been tested already and the number one priority if you are going to see protests, go get tested. Thats really important. On top of that, its going to take about two weeks before we see the actual effects and the impact of this protest on hospitalizations and number of new cases. So remember, theres that lapse. We need to take proper precautions beforehand. For me in my practice, this past weekend im not seeing a lot of coronavirus patients. Im seeing a lot of trauma and riot related patients. I have patients coming in with head injuries and lacerations, bruises and fractures. We need to take safety precautions all around. Jon you said get tested. How long does it take for the virus to actually show up in sufficient number for a test to reflect whether its positive for not . Theres two different types of tests, the Antibody Test which will see if you had it in the past, that takes about two weeks for the antibodies to show up in your body. In your blood. But a few days later, if you went to a protest last week, go tomorrow, go see your doctor, go to an urgent care clinic and you can get tested. It can show up a few days later. You can get a swab of your nose or theres saliva tests where you can see if you picked up the virus and if you are an asymptomatic carrier, unknowingly spreading it to other people. If youre out there protesting, make sure you wear a mask. Try not to touch your face. Keep your hands washed and clean. Its hard to do when youre out in the streets protesting but carry Hand Sanitizer and try your best to spread out. I know its hard to do when theres lots of people out there but do the best you can to spread out, try to avoid yelling and shouting and screaming. Thats how the viral particles will spread from one person to anotherment and then try to also to another and try to wear sunglasses to of protect your eyes. Once you get home, shower right away. Ultimately, go get tested if you were out in the protests so we can try to minimize the spread of this virus. Jon dr. Jeanette nesheiwat, doctor, thank you. My pleasure. Thank you, jon. Jon a wide range of estimates about how many came to protest in washington throughout the day yesterday. The secretary of the army noting 45,000 and a Law Enforcement source for fox pegging it as high as 200,000. Its believed to be one of the largest crowds yet for the district in more than a week of protests there. More demonstrations today as were learning details about internal deliberations in the president S Administration and the National Guard is being withdrawn. Lucas tomlinson is live in Lafayette Park, the scene of the controversial clearing last week. Lucas. Reporter jon, thousands of Peaceful Protesters returned to the recently renamed black lives matter plaza. They say their goal is to spread peace and love, a different message than what we saw last week where the church behind me, the nursery was burned. In the owe of val office last monday oval office, last monday, President Trump wanted as many as 10,000 officers on the streets. Attorney general bill barr mark esper and mark milley were also in the room. They advised the president not to invoke the insurrection act. Esper didnt think it was necessary. He ordered paratroopers in addition to police units, they were staged outside the nations capitol. In the end they were not needed and went home. Esper, milley and barr convincey wasnt needed. Its completely false. Thats completely false. Sunday night the president did not demand that . No, he did not demand that. Reporter a former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff said on Fox News Sunday using active duty soldiers to quell the violence would have been a dangerous move. To fight our enemies, not our own people and our military should never be called to fight our own people as enemies of the state. Reporter early this morning the words defund the police were painted here on 16th street next to the white house. Two days after mayor bowser ordered the words black lives matter painted here too. She said she wants change with the way society educates, employs, treats and particularly polices people of color. Jon. Jon mike tobin, mike, thank you. Well, protests continue in new york city over the death of george floyd in minneapolis but the relative peacefulness of last night resulting in fewer arrests has led to an early lifting of of the citys curfew. All this as the city prepares for phase one of its covid reopening tomorrow amid the coronavirus pandemic. Jacqui heinrich is live in new york city with more on all of that. Jacqui. Reporter john, this is one of 30 testimony strae 30 demonse city. Protesters are marching, blocking traffic at times. They did organize to allow ambulances to pass through. The biggest message is that folks want to defund the police. Ive been speaking with this protester and you said its like a corporation, if theres bad leadership you want to get rid of it. What do you see replacing the police force if theres no one to call for an emergency. The budget of the police in new york city is 6 billion. We know were not going to cut all of that budget out but we have to reallocate to the im pour veerished commune the poor communities. Number one americans that use food stamps are white americans. This is americans fighting for our of rights. We dont want our black and Brown Brothers killed. We want equal rights. That fund should go towards educating our poor White Communities and black communities. Reporter so this is not necessarily about getting rid of police as a whole but reforming it . No, we know we cant. We need safe policing. This is not working. We cant have 430 people of our community killed in the last 10 years. It just cant work. Reporter is what de blasio put forward allocating some of the funds from nypd to Youth Services and community initiatives, is that enough or do you want to see more . Its not enough. Its a start. New york city has the most segregated School System in the country. In the country. Its blue stays. This is not a red versus bluish shy. We need to allocate that towards educating our young people and bringing them up in safe communities. Reporter thank you so much for your time. As you can see, this has turned into much more than a protest over george floyd, this is an issue that people say is systemic and they want to see a change at every community can experience and talking to a kim of protesters here, there are certainly people that want to see no police force. This protester says its about reforming it to make it work for communities. Thats the message here. People dont plan on stopping until they see the kinds of reforms they want to see, jon. Jon Jacqui Heinrich reporting live from new york city. Jacqui, thanks. Well, in the wake of nationwide protests, the focus on capitol hill this week shifts as Congress Begins to grapple with questions about Police Brutality. Congressional correspondent chad pilgrim takes a look at what lies ahead. Reporter its a sweeping bill written by democrats, aims to bolster accountability, eliminate racial profiling and fundamentally alter some approaches by police. Heres what the bill does. It makes it easier to take officers to both civil and criminal court, lowers the bar for whats called qualified immunity which often Shields Police from lawsuits and also forms a database to track some troubled officers who bounce from department to department. With the legislation, with accountability and with the transparency and the emphasis on training, we believe that well be able to address those type of situations. Its time for Police Culture in many departments to change and we believe that the legislation will make a major step forward in that direction. Reporter appearing on cbs, attorney general bill barr worried that too many regulations would undercut police. He asserted most police arent racist. George floyds brother will testify on wednesday about police abuse. Theres concern about deploying the military to quash protests on american streets. We have a military to fight our enemies, not our own people. And our military should never be called to fight our own people as enemies of the state and that quite frankly for me really tipped it over. Reporter House Democrats want defense secretary mark esper and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff mark milley to appear at a hearing to explain the use of the military domestically.
