Yeah. Apparently i already went down the super slide. I was scared half to death. Apparently the dad was pulling on the shirt there. Apparently thats it. Do you want to know who is to blame for the washington gridlock senator rand paul says he knows. The senate of washington is run by harry reid. The republicans get nothing, no idea. No representative of the u. S. Senate. Even though you have a great senator in senator grassley, he doesnt get any ideas into law now, none, zero. Why . Because theyre afraid. Theyre afraid of having people speak. Right now senator rand paul is in iowa. He pulled over on the side of the field in a cornfield. Hi, senator. Hi, greta, thanks for having me. I should note over the
weekend the New York Times says harry reid is not putting bills on the floor. Apparently they agree with you. But why do the Democratic Senators not want to vote . They can win. Theyve got the numbers on all the votes. Well, they can win electorally, you know, in the senate, but theyre worried about the election and theyre worry thad the people wont like the way theyre voting which sound as little bit like, you know, theyre really embarrassed of their philosophy. But really for about a year, they have given up on voting in the senate. Nothing really of substance has happened in a year, maybe two years. They dont allow any amendments from republicans. They dont want the give and take or any bipartisanship because theyre petrified because republicans might have them vote on a gun issue or some kind of issue that southern democrats dont want to vote on. Do you get no sense that senator harry reid has any sort of guilty conscience in the sense that at least things should be voted on as part of a
democracy whether youre for things or against things, its all about winning with him . To me its disappointing because ive actually tried to work on issues with the democrats, several issues, lowering the taxes on money coming home from overseas. Ive tried hard to find ground with the democrats on these issues, and yet they wont allow any votes. How do we make progress if we dont have any votes . I dont know. I read a couple of articles, senator, saying that you have never voted to cut any aid to israel and now youre saying that thats untrue. What is it . You voted to cut aid to israel sometime, you wanted to, or you have not . Yeah. Well, ive never targeted israel. Never voted to cut any aid to israel. And the interesting thing is i spent the last two months trying to cut aid to hamas and the Palestinian Authority and people seem to be trying to create their own story here. But ive been on the senate floor three times in the last
two weeks challenging the democrats to say, you know what . Hamas did not get any foreign aid. Thats the real story here. Anything else really thats being brought up is someone trying to create a story. All right. Well, i know that you voted last week for the 225 million for the iron dome for israel, but let me just make my question more precise. Did you ever try to get a vote on an amendment to deny aid in any way to israel . No. And i think its misinterpreted. Ive had votes and budgets that would have reduced overall foreign aid. Some people have interpreted saying this is to deny aid to israel when, in fact, my inclination have always been to strengthen our ties to israel. So really people misinterpret it. I think foreign aid, we dont have enough money to continue foreign aid all the time, but ive said repeatedly i think we ought to start with the
countries burning our flag, the countries who hate us. Ive been to israel. Nobody there has been burning our flag. Really im for slowing down the aid, saying we dont have enough, attaching conditions, making sure hamas never gets any aid. All im asking is for some of these outlets, unfriendly out t outlets would report the truth, that if they report otherwise, theyre reporting something truly not accurate. Well, theres no question youre in iowa with that beautiful cornfield behind you and theres a video thats gone somewhat viral among the media at least in which youre sitting, having long with congressman king and suddenly some young person comes up to him and says the persons a dreamer and engages in sort of a controversial conversation with congressman king about being a dreamer. You shake the hand and then youre seen getting up after having a bite of your hamburger and then getting your drink as
if to get away. Wh whats going on . Two minutes before that the video doesnt show that another reporter came up and said will you do an interview. And i said i need to take a couple more bites and well do an interview. And then i was told we had to leave and i hat do the interview. So actually i stood ten feet from the people who were doing sort of a kamikaze interview and i stood ten feet from them and did an interview. You know me. Ive always done an interview on immigration, but i dont think you can do it without first securing the border and thats the problem with the president doing this unlawfully, the president doing this on his own act, i will make this choice because people will not act and saying with a pen and a phone im very much opposed to the president making a policy instead of saying Congress Makes the laws, he gets to sign them. Senator, nice to see you in that beautiful state of iowa behind you. I love iowa. Enjoy iowa, sir. Thank you, greta. This is a fox news alert. Right now a 72hour israel hamas ceasefire is still holding. The temporary truce is setting the stage for peace talks in cairo. The israeli delegation has just arrived in cairo and palestinian negotiators are already there. Correspondent Rick Leventhal is live in gaza city. Rick. Reporter greta, its been 18 hours since this ceasefire began and so far the peace still holds. Welcome relief for the resident os thf battered territory. Many of them returning to their devastated neighborhoods for the first time today. Residents of the neighborhood in east gaza are returning home for the First Time Since the early days of the conflict. This areas right on the border with israel and was the scene of some of the heaviest fighting between hamas militants and the
israeli Defense Forces and you can see the result. Buildings heavily damaged or completely destroyed, vehicles burned up, businesses blasted. The folks who lived here got out because of all the fighting and stayed out because there were still troops on the ground and still heavy clashes in the area, but now with the ceasefire in effect and the soldiers back in israel, some of these residents have come home to salvage what they can. Two days ago we were in this very same intersection in east gaza and it was completely deserted. The rocket had just hit the road and took a big chunk out of it and another rocket hit one of these buildings back here and there was black smoke rising, so everyone had cleared out. As you can see now with the Israeli Forces withdrawing, with a ceasefire in effect, there are a lot of people on the street, shopping and going about their daily business. A pretty vivid contrast between
the flattened border towns and functioning city. Tonight, greta, the peace still holds. Boy, i tell you, lets hope that it does hold the full time because its been awful. I dont know if you see our colleague sean hannity, hes seen a lot as well. Rick, thank you very much. My colleague sean hannity is in israel. He joins us from jerusalem. Nice to see you, sean. Tell me your day. I know its been a busy one. Greta, its great to be back with you. Were at the center of all mono thee as tick religions here in jerusalem and were actually going to walk all the people through that tomorrow. We had an interesting day. We started literally early this morning and we spent most of the day on the israeli gaza border in serot is what you can call the town. At this town we went to an israeli daily day care center. Its indoors because over the last ten years, imagine this, 10,000 rockets have been fired in and around the area. Its a neighborhood where children are not allowed to play outside. So they built this indoor facility, playground, where they bring kids of all ages. We spent a lot of time with the parents and director of the facility. And just prior to the ceasefire at 7 55 local time, five minutes before the ceasefire began, six rockets rained down on one of those border towns and we went to where one of the rockets had exploded. You could see all the shrapnel and damage and we interviewed a woman who happened to be from los angeles and she told us why she still lives there and how important it is. She said if she leaves, she feels like shes giving in to terror. Shes taken a hard stand with a lot of the people who live there. One of the harder things we did was went to one of the hospitals thats taking care of not only the israeli Defense Forces but
also palestinians and even members of hamas and we went into the ic unh the trauma unit and we saw the amount of detailed care thats going into, you know, the casualties of war. I know youve probably been to walter reed and bethesda like i have. Very similar situation. You know, sean, its so terrible when you look at all the damage of the war thats been dragging on for so many days and weeks now and you think about if we could what netanyahu has said, the Prime Minister has said, if we could shut down these tunnels that may at least, you know, end it for the moment. Where are they in terms of shutting down those tunnels . Reporter you know, i spoke to a lot of sources here and people close Prime Minister. They feel fairly confident that they got all of the tunnels that they knew existed, the ones that they had been able to find. Do they suspect that there are others . Yes. Theyve found some 40 of them at this point. As i showed you last night your
show and think youre showing some b roll of it right now, the amount of time and effort and money that goes into these things is beyond comprehension, especially when you look at the financial differences between the people of israel and the palestinian people. You know, the average income for the average israeli is almost 40,000 a year. For the average palestinian its 4,000. So here you have a terror group that is even getting money from the United States, getting money from israel to build schools and churches and infrastructure and hospitals and yet theyre using all of those resources to build these sophisticated tunnels so they can go in and commit their you know, expand their jihad, holy war against israelis. It makes no sense to anybody. And everybody ive run into here, they cannot for the life of them understand why leadership would act this way and why theyre not looking out for their own people because this is not a war that, a, theyre going to win or a war
that anybodys going to ben if fit from. 10 00 tonight eastern well go inside the playground and see so much more. Sean, thank you. All right, greta, thank you as always. Thanks. And developing right now, that second american aid worker suffering from ebola in west africa, arriving a short time ago in around atlanta hospital. Nancy writebol was wheeled out of an ambulance on a stretcher and into the hospital. Now, thats in contrast to dr. Kent brantly who last saturday walked out of the balance on his own into the hospital. Correspondent john roberts with the very latest. John. Reporter greta, thank you. The hospital now has their hands full. Two patients in isolation here. I was surprised to see Nancy Writebol being wheeled into the facility. Our understanding is she was in better condition than dr. Kent brantly, but were told in liberia she was taken into the
airplane on a stretcher but walked into the airplane herself. Her husband david said they were actually beginning to consider funeral plans. Heres the puzzling thing about her case frp we still do not know how she was infected because she was not working directly with parents. Her job was to disinfect Health Care Workers as they were coming out of the clinic. She would spray them down. So it shows just how dangerous, greta, the work is and how sometimes this virus can be unpredictable. Were also getting update on dr. Kent brantly. His wife amber put out a Statement Today saying she gets a chance to see him every day and his condition is steadily improving. Good news coming out of emery hospital tonight. Were also learning wait costs to bring those two to the united
states, the cost of the aircraft, special isolation unit, pilots, staff, everyone associated with it. 200,000 per patient for your a grand total of 400,000 for medevac. Just to keep that in contract, american purse for whom theyve been worked for the past four or five years has spent 45 million in west africa. For them it is quite t cost of doing business but it is quite a cost. As i know it, they do not leave anybody behind and theyre important people in the operation. Let me ask you. Is there a point when dr. Kent brantly and Nancy Writebol can take a deep breath . After you deal with it for ten days are you on your way to recovery or is there a point . You know, there obviously are bright points and there is reason for cautious optimism, but there is also a well documented syndrome among ebola patientses in africa. Its called pseudo remission
where it looks like theyre Getting Better and all of a sudden they go rapidly downhill. That actually appeared to have happened to dr. Brantly last week. He was holding his own, doing pretty well and all of a sudden he took a turn for the worse. He actually told his colleagues he thought he was going to die. That was when he got the injection of the serum which remarkably almost like a miracle within an hour turned him around, probably saved his life. And thats the reason why hes here today. Greta . John, thank you. As we just noted it appears to be helping ebola victims. What is this serum . How fast can it be produced . Were joined this evening. Good evening, doctor. Thank you for having me. We hear that dr. Kent brantly got the serum and about 20 minutes to an hour later he
seemed to do remarkably better. Does that surprise you and is that the serum . The speed of the response did surprise me. That tends to be working at the speed. Were just tremendously grateful hes made such Good Progress and our thoughts are with him. What does it do to you . There are a number of reasons for that. It replicates rapidly. At time of death the patient could have ten to nine per square meter. Thats a lot. It actively suppresses molecules that suppress your immune system to bite it. The surface protein of the virus remodels and reshapes itself as it travels into the cell. So its a moving target. It changes the shape that you would need to defeat it. So what does this serum do to it . The serum is three different
purified antibodies. Call them mono clonal antibod s antibodies. The virus or affected cell can be destroyed. Two others combine to a different part to a different surface molecule and what they do is neutralize the virus. They block the infection. I have a model here. This is structure done in my lab. You can see green and you can see white. Green is the part of the virus that attaches to the human cell and the white operating like a spearfishing rod. Its springloaded. It would unwrap from the green cell and penetrate the new human cell to drive itself in. The yellow is the antibody and it looks like the bodies in the cocktail. It attacks the green and the white together and locks the machinery in place so that the virus cant infect the cell. It neutralizes the infection and they also target affected cells
and viruses as well. So there are three things that work three Different Things i know its an experimental so theres some sort of impediments to getting it out there. Im curious. How much do you have . How much can you produce if you dont have any . These are essential questions. This is early days. This is research days. What had been made were animal dosages. Thegs going into humans have to be made to very different manufacturing standards so not that much humanappropriate material even existed when the outbreak happened. The human trial is scheduled for 2015 and thats going to go forward, but not that much human quality material existed, and so obviously a number of agencies including mat bio who helped discover this had to Work Together with the cdc and others to see what was available, how much was there, what can be made and how do we get it to the
people who need it and there were a lot of people involved in those logistical kinds of questions. Lets say we bypassed everything. Lets say this is the end all. This is it. How fast can you produce it and get it . Its made in special greenhouses in tobacco plants. This is a standard process. You can make a lot of it more easily and more cheaply that way and it will probably take a couple of weeks to make another batch and they could probably make it in kilogram quantities. So the manufacturer and the timing are involvable problems. Im sure theyre already in the works. Mat bio has been working to get it upscale. If it was safe, would you take it . Absolutely, i would. Your alternative is to be infected with the ebola virus. Indeed. I hope this is the answer. So far everyone is hopeful. Thank you very much for joining us. Thank you for your time. And straight ahead, racist
remarks from the left targeting Senate Minority leader Mitch Mcconnells wife. Now, the remarks are horrible. But what about the Mainstream Media . Is the Mainstream Media ignoring racist attacks from liberals . Thats next. Also Sergeant Tahmooressis lawyer announcing his next move. The latest coming up. The years largest variety of crab. Like new crab lovers trio or try new jumbo lump crab over woodgrilled salmon. Crabfest is now. But only for a limited time. So hurry in, and sea food differently
