Tremendously, tremendously. China would have superseded us in two years as an economic power, now they are not even close. China, i found it very insulting. I said it to them, china, 25 is very insulting. 25, they are going to take over economically, the world. I said thats not happening. Weve gone way up and theyve gone down i dont want them to go down, weve had a good meeting and we will see what they can do. Millions of dollars will soon be pouring into our treasury from taxes china is paying and if you speak speak to mr. Pillsbury who is probably the leading authority on china, you know who else hasnt . China hasnt . We are going to try to make a deal with china, i want to have great relationships with president xi, as i do, and also with china. Reporter mr. President , how do you see your role as a moral leader . As a moral leader, though . President trump i think i am a great moral leader and i love our country. Go ahead, please. Reporter you said earlier in the Press Conference that democrats had a choice, that you would not work with them on an legislation if they are investigating you. Do you not have a choice in the matter as well . President trump i think its very inappropriate, we should get along and get deals done, they look at us, we look at them, it goes on for two years, nothing is done. Whats bad is, being in the majority, i am going to blame them. It makes it much simpler. I think nancy pelosi, i put that statement out on social media about nancy pelosi, i think she deserves and a lot of people thought i was being sarcastic or i was kidding, i think she deserves it, shes been fighting long for it. There was nothing sarcastic about it, it was meant with very good intentions, i think she deserves it. Shes fought long and hard, shes a very capable person and you have other people trying to take over the speakership and i said, its appropriate, if we can end it we will, if she has a problem i would easily supply her the necessary votes. I believe she deserves that position. I also believe nancy pelosi and i can Work Together and get a lot of things done along with mitch and everybody else we have to work with. I think we will get along done. Reporter mr. President , why cant you Work Together well there are investigations and process . President trump i think we will come in out of the election is over. The election is over, everybody is in love. I see the hostility of questions, i come in here has a nice person wanting to Answer Questions and i have people jumping out of their seats screaming questions at me. The election is over, i am extraordinarily happy. I will tell you if i wasnt, look at what happened in florida, look at what happened in georgia and so many locations, nobody talks about the governorships. Look at the amount of work that was given to these under candidates against my candidates and i am extraordinarily happy. If i wasnt id let you know, theres nothing wrong. Look at midterms and elections generally, you see some its very rare that a party who has the presidency does well. We did unbelievably well, to win florida, both the senate and the governorship . Against two very talented people . Ill tell you what, we did incredible. To win georgia when you had a some of the biggest stars in the world campaigning endlessly, including president obama . You know, ill tell you what, this was a great victory for us and again, from a dealmaking standpoint, we are all much better off the way it turned out. I believe if the democrats want to, we can do a tremendous amount of great legislation. Yes, please, go ahead. Should we keep this going for a little while . When you get bored, would you please tell me . I dont want to overstate, but please, go ahead. Reporter mr. President , on the Campaign Trail you called yourself a nationalist, some heard that as an bolding white nationalists. There are some people that say that now the Republican Party is seen as reporting white nationalists because of your rhetoric. President trump why do i have my highest poll numbers ever . Why do i have the highest poll numbers ever with africanamericans . My highest poll numbers thats such a racist question, honestly. I know you have it written down and youre going to tell me thats a racist question. You know the word is . I love our country, i do. Nationalists i also love the world. I dont mind helping the world but we have to straighten out our Country First and our problems. But to say what you said is so insulting to me, its a very terrible thing you said. Reporter mr. President , you talked about middleclass tax cuts on the Campaign Trail, how will you get democrats to support that policy . President trump you have to ask them. Reporter whats your plan to work with democrats . President trump my plan is to ask them. Reporter you said many times on the Campaign Trail that you didnt want nancy pelosi to be speaker, you spent a lot of time talking about her President Trump let me answer, what would have preferred winning by two or three or four . I would almost have to think about that but certainly i like to win. If i win shes not going to be speaker. Honestly, we had a very warm conversation. She loves this country and she is a very smart woman, shes done a very good job. Shes had very reporter did she promise that they wouldnt seek to impeach you . President trump would you impeach somebody for creating the greatest economic success in the history of our country . Lets impeach him because the country is so successful. Has he done anything wrong . Know, but lets impeach him anyway. Lets impeach justice kavanaugh, lets impeach him. My hate to say this but it was public and after him, we are going to impeach the Vice President , we are going to impeach mike pence, mike pence doesnt get impeached for anything. Lets impeach the president and we will impeach the Vice President. These people are sick. They have to get their bearings. They are the ones that cause the division, they cause tremendous division. Reporter regarding all the retirements in the house, you suggested, you said that many of the retirements that happened in the house made it very difficult for you in this Election Cycle and it was because they were chairman that were vacated, jeff flake wasnt a chairman of a committee and paul ryan also retired. Why do you think it is, whos fault is it . President trump jeff sessions, me. I did the country a great service. He is retired. Id like to call it another word but we are going to treat him a great respect. Jeff flake, thats another beauty. Reporter two questions, please. President trump one, too many people. Reporter are you going to make the Standard Press conference a staple of the remaining two years or will you have more briefings with Sarah Sanders . President trump i think sarah is fantastic, where is sarah . Sarah is so great. You represent me so well. Shes been horribly treated. Its very interesting, we were talking about it the other day. I figured, you know what ill do, i wont do any real interviews and then they start saying, they are all coming up with all kinds of over the last couple months i decided i will do mark, and then they say, why is he doing so many Press Conferences . Whats wrong. When i dont do them, you say whats wrong. When i do, you say whats wrong and when i go in the middle you say whats wrong. But you know that. Reporter [inaudible question] President Trump you explained about access when i purposely stayed away from the press for a while because i wanted to see how it worked. Can i be honest with you . It didnt work well. Reporter so sarah will stay on his Press Secretary . President trump please, go ahead. Reporter first off, i personally think its very good to have you here because the free press President Trump actually, i do, too. Reporter i have two quick questions for you if thats all right, first, a point of clarification on the tax returns issue. You brought up the audit, that doesnt prevent you from releasing them. President trump i didnt say it prevented me, i said lawyers will tell you not to do it. A more exciting question than that, please. Reporter Michael Cohen recently said you called black voters stupid. Whats your response . He was on the apprentice. President trump i would never do that and i dont use racist remarks and if i did, you people you wouldve known about it, ive been hearing your tapes for years and years. Number one, i never worried about it because i never used racist remarks, i have never used racist remarks. Reporter you told her you have the highest approval among africanamericans, its just 8 , sir, single digits. President trump when you talk about division its people like this that cause great division. Point of fact is that i never used a racist remark, thats the point of fact. Where are you from . Yahoo, i hope theyre doing wel well. Reporter lebanon. We are so happy to have this opportunity. Mr. President , he said hes not going to follow your sanctions and hes going to keep buying oil, the president of turkey. Youre going to meet him soon. President trump let me just tell you about the oil. We imposed the strongest sanctions in the history of our country, i guess north korea is there, too. I gave some countries a break on the oil. I did it a little bit because they really asked for some help but i really did it because i dont want to drive oil prices up to 100 a barrel, 150 a barrel because im driving them down. Theyve come down very substantially over the last couple of months, thats because of me. You have a monopoly called opec and i dont like that monopoly, i dont like it. Oil prices are coming down. Rather than deciding to be as tough as i am on most of the sanctions, ive said we are not going to do it that way, we are going to let some of the oil go out to these countries that do need it because i dont want to drive the oil prices up to 150 a barrel which can happen very easily, its a fragile market, i know it very well. Its the absolute right decision. They will get to have her as time goes by, maybe. But i dont want to have any effect on the oil prices worldwide or drive them up because i consider that to be a tax and i dont like taxes. Congratulations to jon tester, congratulations. Im sure youre very unhappy about it. Go ahead. Reporter mr. President , can you address concerns in places like georgia where people waited in line for hours to vote, where Voting Machines werent working in certain districts President Trump do you think thats the reason the candidate lost . I wasnt involved in georgia. Other than i love the state. Reporter as president of the United States are you concerned about the access people are having to voting . President trump i heard it was very efficient in georgia but you have to ask the state governments, its one of the things you have to ask them. Go ahead, please. Go ahead. Reporter you expressed some concerns about social Media Companies unfairly censoring conservatives during the election. Do you anticipate working with democrats to regulate these companies . President trump i would look at that, i think its a serious problem. At the same time you start getting into speech, its a very dangerous problem, that could be the beginning. Its very dangerous. Believe it or not im on that really likes free speech, people dont understand that but i am a big believer and when you start regulating, a lot of bad things can happen. But i would certainly talk to the democrats if they want to do that and i think they do want to do that. Reporter former president barack obama said he had a pen and a phone to use Executive Power on issues like immigration, do you see yourself using Executive Power to get some of your immigration done . President trump i do, i do, some of it i can use Executive Power, not all. He certainly used it, and when he did it he said something to the effect of im not allowed to do this, it will never hold up but im doing it anyway. But he did it and they found judges that approved it. We also found judges i didnt approve it so it will obviously be determined in the Supreme Court end of the court rules in favor of what president obama thinks they should, its what he said, i will probably have a deal with the democrats in a very short. Lack of time. We were very close to having a deal until we got that first strange ruling. Reporter you made some promises about immigration during the campaign and i want to know if you are going to follow through with them. Birthright citizenship, are you going to sign an executive orde order . President trump i believe we have the absolute right but thats another case that will be determined by the Supreme Court of the United States. Youve been reading the same documents as i have, you know exactly what im doing. Whats your next question . Reporter its been more than a month since the death of mr. Khashoggi, the journalist. Do you think saudi arabia is guilty of having him murdered . President trump working very closely with congress, working together, some very talented people and we are working with congress, we are working with turkey and saudi arabia and forming a very strong opinion. Go ahead. Reporter just a quick followup, you said something about nancy pelosi. You said it nancy pelosi, she loves our country. Do you regret some of the things you said during the campaign at various times, you said democrats want to put a Wrecking Ball to our future. President trump i believe with their current policy they are using a Wrecking Ball on our country. But i think theres a compromise somewhere and i think i could be very good for our country. How about one more. Reporter the ad that you did that was branded as a racist ad and fox news would air it, nbc wouldnt dare it. President trump im surprised you would ask that question, i do not. Reporter i think wed all love to have more of these if youre willing. In 2017, shortly after you took office, your Homeland Security department shuttered program to counter homegrown white right wing extremism, and related domestic terrorist groups. And redirected that funding towards fighting islamic terrorists. Do you believe that White Supremacist terrorists and rightwing terrorists, these homegrown terrorists on that side of the spectrum are a problem, sir . And what it is your Administration Hope to do about it . President trump i do believe that is a problem. Its a problem we want to solve. Reporter what are you going to do about it . You cut off the funding. President trump i believe its a problem and can i tell you what . Its a problem that i dont like even a little bit. Reporter you said, pretend im on the ballot yesterday, you called it a referendum on your presidency. Many local districts rejected your midterm message, particularly suburban women. How do you bridge that divide now . President trump i thought my message was very well received, look at their results. Midterm elections are disasters for sitting president s and their administrations, this has been a very successful and look, you can write it anyway you want and if you disagree with me, this has been an incredibly successful how about ohio . I didnt even mention. I mention florida, i mentioned georgia. How about the governor of ohio . Fantastic. Reporter suburban women voters President Trump excuse me. Everybody was talking about how this person was so great, i went up there and did a rally and now they have a great governor, a great governor in ohio, and mike dewine is a fantastic person and i went up there for two reasons, i felt his opposition was not a good person and we know a lot about him and i felt that mike was a fantastic person and he won. Not only did he win, he won easily. Add that to florida and add that to georgia and all the other races we won outside even the senate races which were the biggest of all. These were races that mike pence can tell you, these were races that were going to be unopposed, we were not going to oppose certain people running, certain senators. They said they couldnt be beaten. They said heidi could not be beaten. This was a year out. Youre telling me about popularity. They said many of these people, when i said 9 out of 11, many of these people, these werent easy races, these were tough races. And so i think the level of popularity with the first question i was asked, what have you learned, what about your own popularity . Thats what i learned, i was very well received by this great country, by the people of our great country and im very proud of that because i love the people of this country. We are the greatest people, i love the people of our country. Florida and georgia which we were expected to win, ohio and won you look at some of them, the number of votes we got is incredible. Im really happy with not only the way it came out but the response to me as your president. And as your president i have made our country safe, i have rebuilt and am in the process of rebuilding our military and the jobs are here, every one of them, built here. Shortly we will have the Strongest Military our country has ever had, i have done for the vets than any president , with choice and with other things, as you know, with other things. Our vets are doing better than theyve ever done. The people of our country are very happy with the job im doing. One of the things they want so much is security. They want to security, both at the border, they want it with our with law enforcement, weve taken out thousands of ms13 gang members. Thousands out of 100 million, thousands out of our country. Women of our country who are incredible people, they want security, they want safety, they want financial security, also also. Weve done that but they want physical security and weve taken out thousands of people that shouldnt be in this country but we have to get strong Immigration Laws so they dont come in. We want laws where they dont come in and we dont or to out, per se and again, im very honored to be with all of you, it was a great day yesterday, a great evening, i think we had a tremendous success and hopefully the tone can get better. Hopefully the tone can get a lot better and i really believe it begins with the media. We used to call it the press. Reporter does it begin with you, mr. President . President trump it was a very interesting story written in a very good paper recently that talked about the fact that it isnt good what the media is doing and i do have the right to fight back because i am treated very unfairly. I do fight back and im fighting back not for me. Im fighting back for the people of this country. Thank you all very much. Thank you. Harris and with nearly 90 minutes of first remarks from the president of the United States inside the white house and questions from media members, you heard him talking about, just seconds ago, how much better the tone in the country can get. He says it starts with the media, there were definitely some tense moments, one of which is going viral right now that involved a reporter at a Different Network and a woman who was passing the microphone around for questioning as part of her job. We will get to that later. Right now i want to get to chris wallace, anchor of fox news sunday. Every time he can get on something that can fly or he wants to hold a News Conference, it hits twitter. This was an extraordinary performance, it was classic trump. You saw all the notes he can play, hes combative at times, he got into a fight with jim acosta at cnn, i thought acostas behavior was shameful. Harris have you seen the video with that woman . Ive never seen anything like it, ive covered the white house with Ronald Reagan for six years. In terms of the news, i think the most interesting thing was a Real Olive Branch but in all of the branch with some thorns to nancy pelosi who i know will speak in a couple of moments. He said basically, i want to deal with you but if you begin investigations and start going for my tax returns and stuff, thats not going to happen. He also said on what was clearly a split decision last night, they won and kept control and expanded their control of the senate but they lost the house, he called it a tremendous victory. But the effort to try to win nancy pelosi was fascinating and what will be interesting to see is when she speaks in a couple of minutes how she will respond to it. But the tenor of the News Conference, quite extraordinary. Most of the people there were serious reporters asking serious questions but jim acosta i thought embarrassed himself. Harris nancy pelosi tweeted earlier that she definitely thinks she is going to be the next speaker. We will see nancy pelosi address the nation in just a couple of minutes and weve been given a twominute warning, we were told a while ago it would have been o we will sit and wait for that. A couple of things came up that i want to ask you about, the journalist with the washington post, khashoggi, the president saying he will have a much stronger opinion on what happened to him next week. Lets watch nancy pelosi. Good afternoon, the biggest winner yesterday was health care for American People, for our seniors and hardworking american families. Health care was on the ballot and health care won. Yesterday americans elected an extraordinary class of dynamic and diverse democratic candidates. Members elected to reflect their districts and embody the bountiful diversity of our nation. Women lead the way to victory. With at least 30 new women coming to congress, is that not exciting . And there are still some races that are not finalized yet so there could be more. Democrats also secured big wins and the governorships across the country. While it is my responsibility to win the house for the democrats, winning the governorships is essential to put policy in our country and open elections on the rest, victories in wisconsin, illinois, kansas, maine, michigan, new mexico, and nevada, we are very proud of new mexico, that our colleague is now the governor, in colorad colorado, our current colleague, even though that is replacing a great democratic governor. Tim walls in minnesota, our cole winnie in minnesota. For us, seeing the extraordinary leadership, the increased number of democratic governorships, it was a great night. Two years ago today, the day after the election, everyone came together and said we want to take responsibility and that gave us opportunity to protect the Affordable Care act that is so essential to the health and National Security of americas working families. Just so you know, we mobilized many of the groups outside, we all came together, to say this was our focus. We launched our campaign on the weekend of Martin Luther king in january. Something started happening into our country, the womens margin much of that was about health care, the beat goes on. Over the course of the next year and a half, working with the outside groups, they deserve a great deal of credit and im proud of our Democratic Unity in the congress of the United States. That unity was essential to the clarity of our message. Working together, voting together, we were able to make our case. The outside groups who participated in some of this, the outside groups had 10,000 events across the country, speaking about the risk involved in republican policy in terms of health care in our country. Their assault on medicare, medicaid, the benefit of preexisting medical conditions, being taken away, all of that and so much more, the issue of the cost of Prescription Drugs, all of those issues, advocacy groups, Patient Advocacy groups across this country, the list goes on and on, so many people were involved in that. Leading us to this thing on the ballot, some of you have said to me, how did this emerge . As the issue in the campaign. My answer is we made our own environment because we knew how Important Health care is, not only to good health but families, but to Financial Wellbeing of families, Health Care Cost such a major assault on their Economic Security. It was we put together our for the people agenda, our First Priority was to lower Health Care Costs by lowering the cost of Prescription Drugs. Mitch mcconnell went forth and admitted that medicare and medicaid and some aspects of social security, disabilities benefits were on the chopping block. The president pulled his punch when it came time to lower the cost of Prescription Drugs by enabling secretaries to negotiate. This is very important, not lower Health Care Costs, bigger paychecks by Building Infrastructure, integrity and government by reducing the role in the political section, that was our agenda, our candidates ran with it. Health care, health care, health care in every household in america is an important issu issue. Speaker oneill, when it comes to health care, all politics is personal. We made our own environments, the g. O. P. Tried relentlessly to distract and divide our candidates kept their focus on that subject. When i say our candidates, our candidates for reelection as well. Voters delivered a resounding verdict against Congressional Republicans attacks on medicare, medicaid, and the Affordable Care act and people with preexisting conditions and districts everywhere in america. Now they want a new direction, a house that will work to make progress in the lives of american families. Democrats pledge a new majority, lower Health Care Costs, clean up to make america work for americans and peoples interest, not the special interest. Yesterday, it was not only a vote to protect Americas Health care, it was a vote to restore the health of our democracy. Under the constitution, im proud that the legislative branch, the first branch of government, right after that beautiful preamble stating our purpose. There is a coequal branch of the other branches of government and a check and balance on other branches of government. American people want to put an end to unchecked g. O. P. Control of washington, restoring the checks and balances by our founders. Thats a responsibility we have when we take that oath to protect and defend the constitution and we as democrats are here to strengthen the institution in which we serve to have it be rubberstamped for President Trump. House democrats will honor our responsibility to the constitution, how we will do things, we will open and insist on openness and transparency so the American People can see the impact of public policy, putting an end to what they did with the tax game In The Dark Of Night with the speed of light, no hearing on a bill that would have trillions of dollars of impact on our economy. We will strive in that openness with the American People as our partners and see the impact of legislation on their lives. We will strive for bipartisanship. We believe we have a responsibility to seek Common Ground where we can. We must try. Openness and transparency, accountability, bipartisanship, a very important part of how we will go forward. I believe thats a responsibility we have to honor the vision of our founders. They gave us a call for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They also gave us guidance on how to achieve that. How dish they knew we would have to strive for oneness, recognizing this is the marketplace of ideas, different views on the goal of government. Thats a healthy debate for the American People to witness and for us to have. We do so with confidence in our values and our proposals but also with humility and listen to what others may have to say. And so that will be the kind of congress we have that honors the guidance. Last night i had a conversation with President Trump about how we could Work Together On The Issues that came up, Building Infrastructure of america and i hope we can achieve that. He talked about it during his campaign and it didnt come through with it in his first two years in office but that issue has not been a partisan issue in the congress of the United States over the years. Weve been able to Work Together regionally, across the aisle, across the capitol and down pennsylvania avenue. I hope we can do that because we want to create jobs from Sea To Shining sea. Good paying jobs, transportation, water systems, my colleague, champion on broadband, highspeed broadband across america, especially in the rural areas as well as urban areas. Schools, housing, and the rest. Those that initiative will create good paying jobs and generate other Economic Growth in their regions. We hope we can work in a bipartisan way. The other issue we can hopefully work on his lowering the cost of Prescription Drugs, that is something the president has talked about. We had it 12 years ago when we won the house, all five of those six became law, we couldnt get 60 votes in the senate for one enabling the secretary to negotiate Prescription Drug prices. We hope to get that done now because that is a big impact on americas families budgets. And then the third, is integrity in government, command all of our candidates to the health care agenda. To the Paycheck Agenda and alsoo to the government agenda. Theyve written letters saying that they want hr one, our better deal for americas democracy to be something they vote on. But i say to them, when you come here you will have an impact on what that legislation is, you may want to make some Additions Button on the hour new congress will be part of putting together how the agenda goes forward and we look forward to the integration. I also spoke to Mitch Mcconnell, Leader Mcconnell this morning about how we could Work Together especially on infrastructure. I did receive a call of congratulations from speaker ryan and i welcomed that and weve discussed how it is to win and not to win. The concern he was expressing was about some of his colleagues who would no longer be serving. On that point, i want to say something. In winning this election, it puts you on the right side of the future. This is where we have took go. But when we talk about the challenges we face, we have to jump over gerrymandered lines, all over the country. When we talk about our success, its about the grassroots operation, owning the ground, all these groups that cared about health care, many of them out there to help, elect people who shared their value about lowering Health Care Costs, annual caps on insurance coverage, and certainly restoring the benefits of preexisting conditions, not being the barrier to coverage. Most importantly, the quality of our candidates. They are spectacular from every walk of life and a couple of them from different walks of life and when they come here they will bring their experience and their knowledge and their values. This is no easy feat to win this election, i hear the president attributing to this, that, and the other thing. But when you think of how gerrymandered the country is, how we hope to change that, but nonetheless, how we were able to succeed in this election and attributed again to the quality of our candidates, the determination of our grassroots of folks across the country and the values we share with the American People. In terms of working with the president i will say that i worked very productively with president bush when we had the majority and he had the presidency, we passed one of the Biggest Energy bills in the history of our country, one of the biggest tax bills in terms of stimulus for low income people. And the list goes on. Theres so many issues we Work Together, although i vehemently opposed the war in iraq. The point is we worked together. The fact is, wed like to Work Together so our legislation will be bipartisan, we are not going for the lowest common denominator, we are going for the boldest common denominator, a consensus within our own party of what we can support while also welcoming other ideas. We look forward to a new era in terms of what is happened, the past years have seemed like a very long time in terms of the path its taken us down. When i think of our founders and their courage, but they had in mind for us, when i think of the American People and how beautifully diverse we are and how newcomers to our country have constantly reinvigorated america and i think of our beautiful planet and of course our own country and how its been neglected and degraded the past couple of years. I think there is plenty of opportunity for us to match our legislation with the rhetoric that we are hearing. It might surprise you to know that the president i quoted the most of the Campaign Trail, Ronald Reagan. I wont redo the whole quote but ill read you just one paragraph. Ronald reagan said this is the last speech i will make as president of the United States and i want to leave one final thought and observation about a country i love. Thats quite a headliner, Ronald Reagans last speech. Thanks to each new wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity, a nation for every Young Forever bursting with opportunity and always on the cutting edge leading the world to the next frontier. This is vital to our future as a nation. If we ever close the door to new americans, our leadership in the world will soon be lost. If we ever close the door leadership would soon be lost. Thats the vision of our founders, the diversity of our country, the values in our constitution first and foremost. We think theres an opportunity to Work Together. For them to withdraw their thoughts on the preexisting condition benefit, which the Republican Attorney general across the country put forth in this administration said they would define the law of the lan land. Thats just wrong. Again, as a sign of good faith, in keeping with what theyre saying on the Campaign Trail, withdraw the lawsuit. That will be one place we could start. In any event, next week we look forward to welcoming our new class of freshman, we will celebrate the diversity, the freshness in the thinking and the rest and will immediately be incorporating in a very open, transparent, bipartisan, unifying congress. Any questions . Reporter [inaudible question] harris weve been watching the woman who would like to have her former job back and be the next speaker of the house. Nancy pelosi talking about bipartisanship, who shes talked with on the hill, senator Mitch Mcconnell and others about bipartisanship. We started our coverage with the president of the United States inside the white house, and he mentioned talking with nancy pelosi and others about bipartisanship Going Forward and that News Conference with the president making all sorts of news. Some tense moments with the media and some of those showcasing their own would it just be bad behavior . We will get into it a little bit, youve seen it all today on this Broadcast Station of fox news and Fox News Channel. Please stay tuned to Fox News Channel for continuing coverage. Im Harris Faulkner in new york. Harris all right, we are going back to capitol hill now, nancy pelosi is taking questions. Lets watch. Asking for information, we can just make the request and the information will come in. Concern about whats happening with the epa for example, degrading the air we breathe in the water we drink despite what the president said, thats only one example. I dont think well have any scattershot freelancing in terms of this. We will have responsibility to honor our oversight responsibility and thats the path we will go down. Again, try to unify our country. Look. Im a big believer in the Committee System which has been our committee will make their decisions and make the recommendations to the caucus. You can be sure of one thing, when we go down any of these paths, will know what were doing and will do it right. Reporter [inaudible question] i have always advanced members into the leadership, they have to decide they want to run and people like making their mark in their committees and thats a decision they have to make. To your first part of your question, some people said to me, and i appreciate your question. Now that we have more women coming in, but we have more emphasis on things like child care, this or that. We have a big emphasis on that end we need to make it stronger in the majority but thats across the board in our caucus. I dont want women only important as it is, i want women to not just be talking about those issues. We view every issue as a womens issue. The National Security of our country as a womens issue, Economic Security of our country, National Security, Economic Security, issues that relate to energy. They are womens issues. What ive always tried to do with everyone here is if they are interested in have a security credential, whether its on services, intelligence, veterans affairs, committee of government oversight, fighting terrorism, have security credentials. I think this is very important. Not to just be, the men who have been doing it all along, for women to take command and have standing on those issues. I do think that in terms of the economy and our committees, we have Maxine Waters at financial services, there is already record of high high leadership on issues that relate to the Economic Security of our countr country. We have four new Women Members on the committee this past year. Again, all these issues. I want women to take ownership of what would be traditionally not as visible of a role for them, thats one of the ways they will change with congress. When the white house, the administration, whatever the administration is has to report, about the safety of our country, theyll be talking to the diversity of our country, women, people of color, lgbtq and i think thats a very positive thing because people in the public who share their values, their experience, their concerns Making Decisions about the safety and security in our country. Reporter [inaudible question] are you confident that you are going to be the next speaker of the house . Yes i am. But i say to those women, congratulations on your election, welcome. I have answered that question. Let me just say this in one sentence. I heard the president say i deserve to be the speaker i dont think anybody deserves anything, its not about what you have done, its what you can do, what you have done in the past speaks to your credentials. Its about what you can do and i think i am the best person to go forward, to unify, negotiate, i am a good negotiator, as anyone can see in terms of how we have won every negotiation so far. The only one we didnt win was the g. O. P. Tax scam, dark of night, speed of light. I think my case is about being the best person for how we go forward. We have important we saw something this morning, the challenges, the conscience of our country. We saw something that shows a differentiation and respect for the diversity of our country. We have to try to bridge that gap and bring people together and i think i can do a good job at that. Id rather Answer Questions about policy and the rest. Harris nancy pelosi, we listened in for a few of the questions and now she said she doesnt want to to to talk abot the subject of her becoming speaker again, she wants to talk about other issues. Health care was one of the main thing she talked about. She mentioned Congratulating Women who won last night in the midterm election, lets talk about when making History Today and bring her into the program. Marsha blackburn of tennessee joins me now. Good to see you. Tell me what its like and what happens ahead. Im telling you, its really busy, three hours of sleep and right to work. Harris, theres a lot to do. We started our transition, we are looking forward to it. Ive got an open door and i am willing to listen to everyone. We are hard at work to be certain that we are taking those tennessee values to washington and putting them to work On The Issues that tennesseans want to see. Harris my favorite moment, you dont have to struggle to call me congressman, congresswoman, i am a senator. Talk to me about the tone in washington. The president first in his nearly 90 minute News Conference, it was a focal point for him. You just heard nancy pelosi saying what democrats want to get done, bipartisanship and how it would be the founders vision for us. You know, something about you cant put things back in the box once they are out. They revisit some of the actions after the 2016 election in the 2017 year and how they approached it, saying lets resist. Lets not move things forward. Individuals want to see washington, d. C. , work in a way that is going to lead us to a government of by and for the people which is how we are founded. Its one of our founding principles. It is time for the democrats to come to the table with their best ideas. I am one that has worked across the aisle in a bipartisan way, let the subcommittee i have chaired in a bipartisan way and i will tell you i am always willing to have a conversation with someone who wants to bring forward an idea that will make the lives of tennesseans and americans better and strengthen freedom. And that is what americans want to see. I think its one of the reasons i did so well in my race yesterday. Its because people know it is time to stop some of this politicking on things that do not matter and focus on how we ensure freedom for future generations. Harris thats so interesting, the way you put it. Politics will always be there. Health care matters. We are hearing the Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell talk about a way forward with health care, how do you see it . I think what you will see us do is address the Affordable Care act, the insurance, look at the costs of escalation. In tennessee alone its come up 176 percent for Health Insurance costs. Many people have been priced out of this marketplace. The right question to ask is how do we make certain that individuals have access to affordable Health Insurance. How do we make certain that all tennesseans have access to Affordable Health health care . There are things we pushed forward. Opening up the Health Insurance marketplace, allowing Health Insurance portability so people can buy something that suits their family and their needs and their pocketbook and when they get a policy they like they can take it with them. How do we utilize technology for greater delivery of health care so those in rural and underserved areas have access to health care in the communities where they live . Those of the type of questions people are asking. Its congress that you begin to Work Together with state and local officials to provide some answers. Harris before i have to let you go, people are talking about it today. Women power. It looks like we may see 100 women, bipartisan, 100 women in the House Of Representatives you just left. Now youre going to the senate as the first woman senator from the state of tennessee. Talk to me about women power on capitol hill. I think women have a different approach to Making Decisions. And sometimes i think maybe it is time for us to have a room the table for the great new gal gals. Harris room at the table. We are looking at a different landscape in the senate. How do you see this growing majority for a republican . What youre going to see is some of us that are new to this senate are going to push to have the senate pick up their pace, if you will. To get things done, Answer Questions. Bring forward problemsolving legislation, whether it
