Im Shannon Bream in for shepard smith. Condolences for people in london after what he called a vicious terrorist attack. Made his comments last hour at joint base andrews. Investigators say 29 people were hurt on a bombing during rush hour this morning. This Islamic State is claiming responsibility. On twitter, President Trump called of the terrorist losers and called for a stronger travel ban here in the u. S. , tweeting the travel ban should be tougher, more specific. But stupidly, that would not be politically correct. He also tweeted, we have made more progress in the last nine months against isis than the Obama Administration has made in eight years. We must be proactive and nasty. President trump also brought him north korea during his speech last hour. He said, u. S. Military options are overwhelming. North korea launched a Ballistic Missile over japan and into the pacific ocean. Analysts say it couldve hit the u. S. Territory of guam. John roberts live at the white house. John, what else are we hearing from the president on north korea . Hearing a lot from the president as well as the United Nations. We had that emergency meeting where there was a universal condemnation of the latest north korea north korea initial test which flew over the northern japanese island of hokkaido, calling it highly provocative as well. The United NationsSecurity Council just approved a new round of sanctions that are the toughest yet. Yet President Trump continues to rattle the sabers against north korea. At joint base andrews a short time ago, which is southeast of the white house here, about 56 miles as the crow flies, the president taking a look around at all the military hardware, a b2 stealth bomber, the president saying hes confident about u. S. Capabilities should it come to military action against north korea. Listen to what the president said here. The regime of north korea, which is once again showing its utter contempt for its neighbors, and for the entire world community. After seeing your capabilities and commitment here today, i am more confident than ever that our options in addressing this threat are both effective and overwhelming. Its really a message to north koreas generals and it follows something james mattis, the secretary of defense, said a couple of weeks at the white house who said we arent looking for the total annihilation of the country of north korea, but weve got many options to do so. Thats a signal to the generals surrounding kim jong un saying, do you really want to follow this guy into the pits of hell and what hes doing with his Nuclear Program . Sections are the hr mcmaster and nikki haley appearing in the press room earlier this afternoon to say, look, we got a new round of sanctions very tough against north korea. These are going to take some time to work. But at the same time, holding out the possibility that this could all trigger i dont want to say the nuclear option, but could trigger the military option, its what nikki haley said a short time a while ago. Theres not a whole lot the Security Council is going to be able to do from here when you cut 90 of the trade and 30 of the oil. Having said that, i have no problem kicking it to general mattis because i think he has plenty of options. He has plenty of options. Again, options, options, options. But not ones, according to hr mcmaster, they want to use. They want to give the democratic diplomatic route time to play out. Talking theresa may about london . The two of them spoke, well get to the genesis of that in a moment. Joint base andrews, the president with a very strong message of combination for what he calls another loser terrorist. Well see what the president has to say. I want to say my hearts go out to the people of london who suffered a vicious terrorist attack today. I spoke with a wonderful woman, british Prime Minister theresa may this morning and relayed americas deepest sympathies as well as our absolute commitment to eradicating the terrorists from our planet. Radical islamic terrorism. It will be eradicated. Believe me. Another reference to theresa may as a wonderful woman may be in part by making amends that the tweet the president sent out first thing this morning in which he appeared to suggest that Scotland Yard, the British Police authorities, may have dropped the ball on this. Another attack in london by another loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard must be proactive. That prompted questions and britain this morning whether or not the president you something that Scotland Yard didnt know, which prompted this response from the british Prime Minister. Listen here. I never think its helpful for anyone to speculate what is an ongoing investigation. The National Security advisor hr mcmaster said this afternoon said its all a misunderstanding. What the president was really trying to say in that tweet is that these and other terrorists are people who are constantly in the cross hairs of law enforcement, whether it be the British Police, whether it be the fbi, whether it be our intelligence agencies. He was not suggesting that Scotland Yard knew about this person before they perpetrated this act and failed to act. Shannon . Tweet, folks want to parse them very closely. John roberts at the white house. Thank you so much. Lets bring in steve hayes, fox news contributor. So lets Start Talking about one of these tweets. We put it up earlier, talked about the fact that he thinks hes done better with isis in nine months than the obama magician did over 8 years. Your reaction wax makes people well, i think the president part of that is being clear who the enemy is. You go back and think about the way barack obama characterized isis, in particular calling them the junior varsity, downplayed more broadly the threat from jihadist throughout the world. The contrast with the way President Trump talks about the threat, i think, is one that favors President Trump. Hes right to say that the u. S. Military is taking territory back from isis. We should be clear that that doesnt mean we are winning the war or that this threat is in any way near over. But he can take some credit for that. He also took this opportunity this morning after that last attack in london in june to talk about the travel ban. We dont know the circumstances yet about the suspects in this particular case. A lot of folks raise questions whether the travel ban would be applicable, these are homegrown people that wouldnt be caught up in that kind of net. He says, listen, the travel ban needs to be better, stronger, but because of political correctness, its not. That sort of a dissonant note. We dont know, we didnt know much about the attackers. Its not clear at all that any kind of travel ban here would have stopped and the tech in london. It didnt make a ton of sense what the president said. I think its best to look at that as may be solving a political problem rather than addressing a National Security problem. The president has frustrated a large swath of his Political Base with the deals that hes got with democrats on both the debt ceiling and daca. I think this was meant as a way to say, hey, im still the tough guy you voted for back in november. In the meantime, the travel ban case, travel ban twopoint oh is heading to the Supreme Court. Its going to be argued on the tenth of october. They have brushed back what the ninth circuit did in limiting travel ban, but a guest to this point how it will go on the merits. How important is it for the administration to get a win there . I always defer to you for Supreme Court questions. You are a better judge than i ever will be. Look, i think this is something the president believes strongly. Hes made the case repeatedly. Hes been brought back, as you said, by these lower courts. Hes refused to back off the arguments that he makes. I think there is a part of his Political Base that feels very strongly about the case that the president has made and the retailored case the president has made. It will be a win for the president of the Supreme Court upholds this. Lets look at the legislative branch. He was tweeting about them this morning. So many Different Things tweeting about this morning, but lets give this one of the filibuster. With the ridiculous filibuster rule in the senate, republicans need 60 votes rather than 51. All caps, end now. When you point that out, there are folks who say, yeah, they once said that about the judicial filibuster thats now gone all the way up to the judicial court, continues to harp on this and says its the only way to get things done in the senate. He says even the ones they arent doing what he wants them to do. I mean, look. This is donald trump at may be his trumpiest. He wants this done. He wants to pass his legislation with 51 votes and hes frustrated by the constraints that have been placed on the ledge later branch by our forbearers to make that possible, to keep them from doing that. Hes going to continue to make this argument. Hes been making it for a long time but i think if you are a small government conservative, you like the filibuster. The filibuster is a way to continue to restrain government. Whatever shortterm benefit there might be to passing immediate legislation in this presidency, there is a longterm cost to small government and limiting government if you get rid of the filibuster. That said, what you will hear from other conservatives is, hey, look, once democrats have control of the senate, you know we are going to get rid of it, so republicans might as well fight the way democrats fight and go ahead and do this when its inevitable anyway. Yeah, definitely one of the arguments. Meanwhile, this might not be the only thing that he and senator Mitch Mcconnell see eye to eye on. Thereve been some public and private, we understand, tension between the two of them. Republican leaders were not happy about the president going and having a meeting with the two type democrats on capitol hill and essentially coming out of that meeting with them saying they thought they had some kind of deal on daca. We dont really want to get into the substance of that that much, we will get into that later. What about Keys Crossing the aisle . We were told that this was sort of the signaling of the end of the Reince Priebus era. He headed up the party officially and thought you had to work with Party Leaders to get things done. He didnt mean the other party, which is where the president is going now. Yeah, look. This is something that i think a lot of conservatives were worried about with donald trump. In the history of being centerleft, i think, on policy issues when he weighed in before he ran for president , hes shown a willingness to Fund Democrats in the past, and i think many conservatives were skeptical President Trump would be the kind of conservative is he sometimes ran as when he ran for president. This is sort of those fears realized. You are seeing, i think im of the revolt some of his base, because of these decisions. People who had stood by him and said, look, no hes going to be a different kind of politician. Hes going to take on both parties. Looks like hes teaming up with democrats, at least right now. Steve hayes life for us in washington. Have a great weekend. We want to take you live to look at things happening in st. Louis. This is a gathering of folks after a verdict there, essentially decisions from a judge who has cleared a white Police Officer in a 2011 shooting. That officer, jason stokley, is no longer an officer with st. Louis police department. He was charged with firstdegree murder in the death of Anthony Lamarr smith. He was shot after a highspeed chase. The judge we are told by both prosecutors and defense, he said after pouring over the evidence again and again and looking at surveillance video, cell phone video, he could not determine beyond a reasonable doubt that this officer didnt act in selfdefense. A lot of people insane was unhappy about that today. The victim in this case, Anthony Lamar smith, his family have said, listen, if you want to protest, we are with you. We dont agree with this decision, but please do not get violent. We will keep an eye on it, well take you there. Security forces in britain bracing for another attack. President trump arriving in the airport in morristown, new jersey. He is heading to a golf club in nearby he was there to mark the air forces 70th anniversar anniversary, had great praise for them, and took opportunities to fill out warnings for north korea and touch what happened in london as well. He will be in new jersey for the weekend. We will understand he will head to new york ahead of the human meetings on monday and he will speak before the General Assembly, that will be very closely watched. We will break down a preview of that speech coming up. In the meantime, britain raising their threat level two yellow, it means another attack is possible after the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for bombing a crowded london subway. A bucket bomb exploded on a train injuring 220 people witnesses say the explosion happened as the train was pulling into a station during the morning rush. Passengers say it was total chaos as people trampled over each other trying to get above ground, get to safety. Jeep intelligence corresponding Catherine Herridge is live in washington tracking the story. Hi, katherine. Thanks, shannon. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in london a couple of hours ago. Their official news it didnt offer any specifics about the connection to the alleged suspect or suspects or whether they provided hands on training or simply inspiration. Heres part of the translation that they posted on the web. Severe explosion in a subway at london carried out by a detachment of the Islamic State. Also, i want to draw your attention to the socalled bucket bomb. My contacts are drawing my attention to the fact that its very similar in its design and makeup to the Pressure Cooker bomb that was used during the Boston Marathon bombing. Its the same kind of ammo from these instructions that are available on the web. They have a container. Its packed with explosives, often an accelerant, wires out of the device to detonate it from a remote location. This is important because it does speak to the possibility or even likelihood that this was someone who was inspired by the terror group and got their training online, shannon. What kind of support is the white house offering now . Speak with a briefing this afternoon, they covered a lot of topics, but the National Security advisor mcmaster said they were offering their soul ty full support of the because more attacks might be on the way. We continue to work tirelessly with our partners to prevent attacks. Of course, the United States remains committed to defeating terrorist organizations as well as their evil ideology. We will defend our people and our values against these cowardly attacks. And we will always stand with countries around the world to do the same. A couple of final points. London really has the most cameras of any large city in the world. So the feeling is they will be very successful in finding some kind of security video that will really help them in this hunt for the suspect. The other thing i want to add is theres always been discussion of foreign fighters coming back from iraq and syria as weve made territorial gains in those areas. The reality is much different than what we project a year ago. Many of the foreign fighters are simply being killed inside iraq and syria and they are not returning home. And the rising threat and risk is coming from people who are self radicalized and never get to these war zones to have hand on training, shannon. Because of all you cover, catherine, it doesnt take a visit there. It takes an internet connection. Catherine, thank you. By the way, President Trump, we follow him as he arrives in the airport in morristown, new jersey. The stairs are out on air force one. Hes had a busy day and a very busy week ahead. He will be working in bedminster new jersey this weekend fresh office bridge at joint base andrews. The first lady companied him as well. Great praise for them and the men and women in uniform. We see him now as he comes down the steps. He will be preparing for next week in new york city, a place he hasnt visited often since he became president , but live for many, many decades, and hell be heading into meetings for the u. N. Theres been a very different posture for this administration than the previous. The world will be watching. We are going to be talk about terrorism and how he will address that right after this. Whoo testis this thing on . huh . Cmon your turn mmmm. Where do pencils go on vacation . loud speaker pencilvania pencilvania laughing frosted just right. Crunch in every bite. Kelloggs frosted miniwheats. President trump getting ready to make his first speech to the United NationsGeneral Assembly next week. Of course, no shortage of issues on the world stage from terrorism to the north Korean Nuclear threat. The u. N. Ambassador Nikki Haley Says she thinks the president will strike the right tone. With the speech the president gives, i think you can see it for yourself. I personally think he slaps the right people, he hugs the right people, comes out with the u. S. Being very strong in the end. President trump might also talk about his american first agenda, but asked for specifics, Ambassador Haley says you will have to wait and see. Lets bring in the white house reporter, our corporate cousin thank we know the president was tough on these international and global organizations. He has referred to the u. N. As being weak and incompetent and proposed the funding cuts for them as well. What do you think we will see from him next week when he takes the big stage . What we heard from u. N. Ambassador nikki haley today was we can expect to see the president put a heavy emphasis on um u. N. Reform. But he will also emphasize peace and prosperity and calling other countries to Work Together on some other key issues, one of course is north korea, the other which is venezuela well, one of several of the topics. In both cases, hes had to go out there as the u. S. President and call on other countries to join with america so its not America First, as a Vice President always says, America First doesnt mean america alone. Thats the message they are trying to deliver this week. Its a tricky needle to thread. I think about when he was in brussels back in may and people were watching closely because its a big first foreign trip for him. When he was there, standing there dedicating the 9 11 9 11 memorial, he called out the nato partners not doing their fair share to contribute. He didnt officially endorse article five like a lot of folks thought he went. Some people were miffed about how he did with nato. This again is the world stage with World Leaders everywhere. Do you think youll take any lessons from nato and maybe have a different town . Theres always that possibility. And weve heard certain messages being emphasized today as being planned in the speech, but what weve seen, whether its on terrorism, or other issues, is insert certain messages into broader themes that are perhaps more akin to other administrations. Thats certainly a possibility next week. Its a little unclear exactly what we are going to get and this is coming off of a bad domestic polity fortnight thats been unaffected too. Confirming the under the thing that people watch closely for in the u. N. Assembly is the israeli Prime Minister. This is a different relationship. From Ambassador Haley, theyve been very proisrael and then called out the u. N. Having what they call antiisrael. The two are expected to spend some time next week. What will you watch for in that relationship . Thats an important conversation, but there are a lot of important conversations happening on the sidelines. Certainly, the president has expressed his interest in being the maker of the ultimate deals. Hes in the middle east. He also expected to have the folks from the palestinian authority. Thats one area where hes been interested weighing in, but there will be conversations on both sides, if you will. There is also the situation involving the conflict over there between that something where, again from a meeting scheduled could effect the u. S. Abbas risk ability and determination to weigh in. Of course, north korea is going to be a front and center. That conversation as continuing the round of sanctions are passed at the u. N. The secretary of state tillerson has called out russia and china, individually naming them and their connection to north korea. But what i understand, the leaders of russia and china are not going to be here next week for this meeting. Ive got to imagine they are going to take some heat whether they are here in person or not. Right. The Foreign Ministers are expected be coming, so that will provide the side of sideline conversations that other officials can have. Certainly not going to be the agenda, the president s affect the meet with south korea and japanese leaders while hes there. Again, there is the ongoing issues and the potential for there to be a vision of the developments before next week even begins. Liveries are not two, great to see you. Thank you so much for the preview. We want to take folks back lives to st. Louis where we are watching a situation where a Police Officer who was charged of an africanamerican suspect has been cleared today by a judge who said he went over and over the evidence and was not convinced, had a reasonable doubt, this officer was not acting in selfdefense. He shot the victim in this case after a highspeed chase. There were arguments that he said he saw a gun. The prosecution argued the gun was planted by the officer. The judge seemed to be very skeptical about that. He looked at videos, surveillance videos, cell phone, but theres been a very negative reaction to this, as you would imagine, from some in st. Louis. So far, relatively peaceful. But there are reports of confrontations, rocks, bottles being thrown potentially at Police Officers. The victims family in this case has called for peace saying, yes, go ahead, demonstrate, we are upset, you are upset, but please keep it peaceful, dont let the spiral out of control. Cruise on the ground say its changing a little bit. It feels like the crowd is gathering, getting a little bit angrier as this goes on. We will keep an eye on it. We will take you back there live in minutes. Meanwhile, the u. N. Security Council Holding an emergency meeting after north korea shows he can fly a missile far enough to hit the u. S. President trumps National Security advisor hr mcmaster says there is a military option for north korea after its latest Missile Launch. But he says its not the administrations first choice. We ought to make clear whats different about this approach is we are out of time, right . As Ambassador Haley said before, weve been kicking the can down the road and we are out of road. For those who have said, been commenting about the lack of a military option, there is a military option. Now, its not what we prefer to do. North koreas latest Missile Launch shows the country has the capability to strike the u. S. Territory of guam. Analysts say in the missile flew more than 2300 miles, the far this year for north korea. The u. N. Security Council Holding an emergency meeting after approving more economic sanctions after north korea just earlier this week. All right. What action to the Security Council to . After about one hour, shannon, the u. N. Security council released what is called a press statement. This is simply a nonbinding document that expresses the consensus of the Security Council. Although a little background here. To date, so far, the u. N. Security council has adopted nine resolutions dealing with the north korean Nuclear Program. The most recent two imposing very punishing sanctions on north korea. As i mentioned, this press statement nonbinding but expresses the will of the council. It calls all Member States to abide by the most recent resolution, number 2375, that was a resolution that significantly reduce the oil imports to north korea, among other things. It also completely cut all north korean exports of textiles. This is a key source of revenue for north korea. The current rotating Council President , who is the ethiopian ambassador, read out the statement. Listen. The Security Council also emphasized the vital importance of the democratic peoples republic of china via immediately showing sincere commitment to demilitarization. Next week is of the annual meeting of the u. N. General assembly, shannon. At that time, we expect to hear a great deal more about north korea. It is very possible there will be some very highlevel meetings dealing with the subject. Shannon . So we heard from the u. S. Ambassador to the u. N. , nikki haley, today. Also the Russian Ambassador speaking out about north korea . Thats right. A short time ago, we heard from the u. N. Russian ambassador and he talked about the most recent resolutions. He said that while they called for sanctions, they also called for efforts at diplomacy. He singled out the United States in this regard saying that the United States is in noncompliance. He accused the United StatesUnited States of essentially not trying to pursue a diplomatic resolution. He said, mutual threats must be stopped. And he also, shannon, expressed his frustration for the process here at the United Nations, a process that has so far failed to halt the north Korean Nuclear weapons program. Listen to more of what he had to say. They are in a vicious circle. They have a resolution, the publication the provocation, that is another provocation. We are contemplating many people raising an issue that we have to think, maybe, out of we also heard from the japanese today. The japanese u. N. Ambassador said he sanctions that have been adopted so far must now be incremented. Shannon . David lee miller, thank you so much. Bring in karen skinner, also the director for institute for politics and strategy at Carnegie Mellon university and a Research Hello at the hoover institution. Thank you for joining us today. Thank you. So we know that this is going to be front and center of the u. N. , this next week, as all the nations gathering continuing to deal with this. Weve had sanctions after sanctions after sanctions, another round this week. Will any further u. N. Action get kim jong uns attention . Where do we go from here . One thing that Ambassador Haley has said earlier this week is absolutely true. If the sanctions are put in place and enforced by all of the nations of the world, north korea will feel extreme pain. So although the u. S. Did not get everything and wanted like complete oil embargo, and a higher cap on natural gas sales to north korea, it got a lot. Its getting world attention. The community of nations are really surrounding the peaceful approach, the peaceful, double medic, and strategic approach to the u. S. , which is to really further isolate north korea by bringing attention and diplomatic power to the understanding that this country has destabilized its own region. Its destabilizing the world. Thats becoming clear to all. For example, mexico just a few days ago expelled its north Korean Ambassador in protest to its nuclear tests. Nations are coming to the side of the diplomacy being led by the United States. Although the window of opportunity is closing for a double medic solution, we have to also realize there is more activity than has been reported in the favor of the United States in this conflict. And secretary tillerson has pacifically called out, its about these nations and forcing what theyve agreed to do. Its interesting to hear him specifically say china, and he linked that to the oil that they had backandforth with north korea, and talked about russia and the labor they get. He basically, we are looking at you, china and russia. We are calling everybody to do this, but without you, its not enough. Chinas Foreign Ministry spoke out and said, dont put everything on us. We are the key to solving the whole thing. So are they . They are an important player, but i also think that weve looked at china as the pathway to north korea. I do think it is one pathway. But the North Koreans, by themselves, have decided to be as aggressive as possible. And we may at times overestimate the influence that the chinese have. But let me just speak to both china and russia, the other great powers who are clearly relevant here. The chinese and the russians will really lose, kind of, the First Movement if they do not join the United States in the aggressive diplomatic offensive that has been undertaken. They will be, in fact, isolated. Especially the russians. Less so for the chinese. If you look at whats been going on, the North Koreans have not been able to put a wedge between the United States and south korea. They have not been able to put a wedge between the u. S. And japa japan. Both countries are fully, you know, committed to working with us. I think that the diplomatic side will do more than many have expected in this crisis. We will watch closely on that front as the world gathers here in new york next week for those United Nations meetings. Karen skinner, great to have you. Thank you. Good to be with you. The white house said today that it hopes both parties can come together on an immigration plan that could improve protection for the socalled dreamers. Those are about, we think, 800,000 immigrants whose parents brought them here illegally without documents when they were just kids. Some analysts say that one of President Trump tweets may have derailed a possible bipartisan deal. Not far from the Prisons Golf Club where hell be spending the weekend can you explain to us what the president has said . Yes, shannon. Two worlds really stand out. Chain migration. Thats when the extended family of legal immigrants are given a smoother path into the country. This morning on twitter, President Trump said, chain migration cannot be allowed to be part of any legislation on immigration. Now that requirement could derail a potential deal with democrats on daca because Many Democrats support chain migration while many republicans oppose it. Now, chain migration can refer to a lot of things. Spouses, children, and extended family. President trump did make it clear in that tweet who or what exactly he was referring to. So today, during the white house briefing, the press secretary Sarah Huckabee sanders was asked to clarify and heres how she responded. We deliver on responsible immigration reform. He wants to help American Workers and families. No deal has been finally reached on this process. He supports making an agreement on daca, but that would have to include massive Border Security and interior enforcement. The president continues to push for those things. He still 100 committed to the wall. We are going to be laying out what our specific priorities and printables are in that front over the next 710 days. Not a lot of clarity on chain migration, but what is clear is no deal is done, and according to this white house, President Trump still committed to building his wall. Do we know anything more what he will be doing in new jersey this weekend . Yeah, hes going to be spending a lot of this week and preparing and getting ready for his first u. N. General assembly in new york city next week. Hes going to be meeting with a lot of World Leaders and hes going to be delivering a big speech on tuesday. Today, u. N. Ambassador to the u. N. Nikki haley said that she has read the speech. It is written. There will likely be tweets over the weekend, just a little bit. She said what this speech does is it slaps the right people and hugs the right people. So he will be likely slapping countries like north korea, iran, venezuela, north korea being the main focus that will dominate the agenda next week, shannon. Kristin fisher lie for us in new jersey. They say the cops have used pepper spray on them. The judge said prosecutors did not prove that former officer Jason Stockley wasnt acting in selfdefense. Happened in 2011 after a highspeed chase. Shot Anthony Lamar smith five times. He said he thought him holding a gun. Prosecutors argue the cops planted the gun in smiths car. The judge did not buy that. Hi, will. Shannon, ever since that decision came down this morning, people have gathered here in downtown st. Louis and they have been marching for miles. Obviously not happy with the decision. I want to walk you across the group and show you whats going on. Police have been letting them march peacefully throughout the streets of downtown. Businesses are closed, but what they are not letting them do is get up on the interstate here in st. Louis. Every single entry to the interstate has been blocked off by the Police Officers and thus far, protesters have respected that. They come, they stare, the chant, they scream a number of expletives at the Police Officers and they continue to walk. This is a portion of the crowd that is hostile. There is a portion of the crowd that is not pure and marching peacefully, trying to spread the message that they think there was injustice with this not guilty decision. At the same time, i really want to point out that a lot of this is still tension from ferguson which was back in 2014. But this case was back in 2011. There wasnt a lot of National Media attention with it at the time. But its been percolating below the service here and the People Living in the area say the racial tension is really very hostile. Shannon, we are going to see what goes down as the sun goes down tonight. Shannon . We are hearing from leaders there and also family members, the fiance, loved ones of Anthony Lamar smith, the man who was killed, saying, go ahead and protest, we are with you in spirit, but dont get violent. They arent condoning that. We will see if we will be safe. Thank you for the report. Absolutely. She is a transgender soldier who used to go by bradley manning. Before president obama commuted her sentence. Molly line is live in boston on this controversy. Hi, molly. Hey, shannon. Its absolutely true, writing a lastminute letter confirming he would not be speaking. Cia director mike pompeo called Chelsea Manning an american traitor. A member, manning was convicted of espionage. She had shared hundreds and thousands of classified documents with wikileaks. In his letter officially canceling last nights appearance, pompeo writes wikileaks is an enemy of the denouncing miss mannings cia in danger. There was military intelligence officials are right. Indeed, ms. Mannings stands for everything his decision had nothing to do with mannings identity as a transgender person but everything to do with her identity as a traitor. Douglas elmendorf is the dean of the Harvard Kennedy school. Writing, we did not intend to honor or endorse any of her words and deeds as we do not endorse or under any fellow. However, i now think designating Chelsea Manning as a visiting fellow was a mistake, for which i accept responsibility. However, an invite for manning at the Kennedy School to speak and the forum stands. We also have info here from mannings attorney. Her attorney responded on twitter, saying, he was disgusted by the cruelty of harvard, writing dangerous war criminals and architects of our present apparatuses would remain beholden to the state. Get the decision to withdraw Chelsea Mannings visiting fellowship in the middle of the night without coherent exclamation is disgraceful, even for harvard. It is unclear if manning will accept to still come to speak at harvard, to questions, just not as a visiting fellow. Shannon . All right. Molly line with the latest in boston.
