To say that the United States is open for business. That we now have a tax and Regulatory Environment that would be favorable for Foreign Companies to come back into the United States and for 1s here to invest more. The president tweeting this morning tremendous investment by companies all over the world being made in america. Now disney, j. P. Morgan chase. Massive regulation reduction tax cuts making us a power house again. Long way to go. Jobs, jobs, jobs. Tomorrow night, the president will host a dinner for some select European Companies companies that have a significant footprint in the United States. He will urge them to invest more as he did at the g7, the g20, aipac conferences. The president will put forward an America First agenda and the president showing earlier this week that his trade policies have teeth, slapping 30 tariff on foreign made solar panels and washing machines. The commerce secretary wilber ross talking about trade war. Not shying away from the idea. Saying there has been a trade war. Difference now u. S. Troops are now coming to the parts. It brought response from the italian prime minster who said, yes you can claim America First, i can claim i. T. Ally first italy first. The world works best when we Work Together. The point that wilber ross was making that United States is now at a point they trying to correct incorrect decisions that have been made by past administrations to put American Workers and American Companies on a more level playing field. Its going to be the most exciting davos theyve had in years. Talk to you tomorrow. Thank you so much. The investigation into russian interference in 2016 election may be coming to a close. As new reports indicate Robert Mueller is now looking to interview President Trump about the firing of former fbi director comey and National Security advisor mike flynn. This after muellers team talked to former acting attorney general sally yates and cia director mike pompeo. Catherine harris is live in washington. What are we learning from the latest interviews . Good afternoon. Source close to the matter tells fox news there was no advance notice to the white house about of the special counsel interviews with Senior Intelligence officials. Director of National Intelligence dan coates. Cry detector mike pompeo and mike rogers who heads up the nasa. The interviews were described as not central to the probe. Were waiting for the White House Press sector now. She has made maintained the same position. As weve said everyday this year, were going ton fully cooperative with the special counsel and were going to continue to do that throughout the process. Were also not going to comment on who may or may not or could be interviewed. Context the president s lawyer said publicly that special counsel interview is probably inevitable. But sources tells fox, they believe other witnesses like the attorney general jeff sessions, the president soninlaw and others can answer Robert Muellers questions. There maybe no single issue that only the president can explain. Do we know anything more about bob muellers effort to speak to the president . One the central issues that remains on the table is the firing of fbi director james comey and mike flink flynn. Timing matters. When comey ran the russia probe, no charges were brought against flynn who was interviewed in january 2017, four months before comey was fired by President Trump. Fox can confirm that flynn was befored by interviewed by peter strozk who is now accused political bias against the president. When flynn pled guilty in december to lie to the fbi, they told fox at that time, comey had told lawmakers different in the late spring 2017 just before he was fired. The bureau concluded flynn was confused about his conversations with the Russian Ambassador and not deliberately misled fbi agents. On the the comey firing the Deputy Attorney general rod rosenstein, recommended his termination. With these new fbi texts and the five months of missing texts, it leaves one whistleblower coming forward what was happening at the bureau, republicans are calling for comey to come back to the hill and deconflict the testimony he gave after he was fired. Thank you so much. Now lets bring in fox News Politics editor and editor of Halftime Report chris. You been around washington for a while. You seen links. How do advise people to weigh them . Im taking the position of just i read it all but i try not to get too invested in anything. We are literally trying to determine the circumference of the earth based on one square foot of ground. It is too hard to try to figure out exactly whats going on here. Based on these reflections and shadows and the emails. How do we know whats in the emails a arent there. In the end, we have to wait and see. Thats very hard for us especially in a twitter feud, instant 24 news cycle. Its hard for us to be patient and say, we want the Inspector General to do their work. We want the special counsel to do his work. We want all of the things that are in motion now checking on the work of the people in our Law Enforcement community as well as, overwhelmingly important is making sure that our electoral process is free from foreign meddling and interference. We should be able to let all those things work. Its so hard day in and day out when you have partisans who are pushing links to create a narrative. The 2018 med terms midterms are not that far away. Vice president pence will head to pennsylvania to shore up the state senator there to see if connor lamb there in that special election. In your home state of west virginia, we finally got the decisions from senator manchin. He is going to run again. He said also ive said this pointblank. If people like me cant win from red states youll be in the minority the rest of your life. Thats what he told them. They need to be more tolerant of moderate members. What do you know about that . When Chuck Schumer had to tell liberal democrats and the democrats running in 2020 or might be running in 2020, look, we did the shutdown for as long as we could. The point he had to make, i cant tell manchin not to vote for this anymore. I cant tell Claire Mccaskill in missouri. I cant force them to continue to keep Government Shutdown when the republicans have a funding measure. This is the split inside the Democratic Party about how is the path to return from the wilderness more purity, is it more ideological purity. If you recall, this is what republicans went through in 2009, 2010. They couldnt quite figure it out. Thats maybe what cost them the presidency in 2012. Let me ask you about this. He was writing about this issue in particular about the shutdown and immigration. I want to get your take on it. He said, the democrats have two masters to serve the base and the people who keep electing manchin and john tester and Claire Mccaskill. The republicans can get majority by revving up their base. Democrats cannot . That continues to be right more now. Unfortunately for democrats, they are betting on a future that may or may not materialize in which democrats are more hispanic voters fewer white whitevoters. Democrats are betting on a come. If they cant deliver good results those future voters counting on a wave to lift them, they may never materialize. Would it be impossible for democrats to coalesce to figure out who the next leader will be . One the reasons the republicans inspector the wilderness after 2008, is because george w. Bush left the presidency, barack obama comes in. The democrats coalesce behind him. Now the republicans are coalesce behind President Trump. The democrats are looking at do we go left or the middle. The sooner they have the fight, the better for them. The democrats have to get to the answer here about what kind of party are they. And how much tolerance do they have for people who do represent blue collar white voters in their states. How much tolerance they have for people who are prolife. How willing are they to have those voter. How much they want to take extreme positions. The way that th any predictions on who that will be . Well, it was Bernie Sanders almost did it last time. Somebody over in that neighborhood. Interesting. Well take a look at that. Thank you. Be sure to check out our weekly podcast. You scroll down and youll see our logo. Click on that and youll see a wide variety of options for downloading. Its available on itunes. Well record a new one today. We are watching white house and waiting for the briefing by press secretary sarah sanders. Plus looking for a new deal on Immigration Reform. We will talk with key lawmaker on that issue. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn is next. Here Senator Cory Gardner on a negotiation. People dont like to talk about gangs of eight and gangs of 14s. Im interested in the majority of the house and 60 votes in the senate and president of the United States. Thats what we have to have to have a solution. Were about to see whether this is about policy or politics. If its about politics people will draw lines in the saturday. If its about policy well get an answer that we can reach and will solve the daca challenge before us. Weve gotten a commitment from senator mcconnell. He made it not just to democrats but good chunk of other his own caucus. That means a lot. I think we have renewed momentum. Lawmakers now looking for a new deal on Immigration Reform after Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer withdrew offer for border wall. We are joined by texas senator john cornyn. Thanks for being with me. After the shutdown finishes and now we have a new deadline of february 8th, theres this issue of daca which i think everybody can figure out a way to get there. Theres the bigger issues that would have to deal with. Do you think the debate these get bigger and income bass more things. Should it be more narrowly targeted on Border Security and the visa lottery. Thats a very important question. Thats the debate about the debate. Do we go small. Barebones build a start with it and offer people an opportunity to change it on the senate floor. Or opportunity to go bigger and permanent. Both on the daca side as well as Border Security side. Do you have a preference on what happens . I would like to see permanent solution for these young people who through no fault of their own find themselves in a difficult situation. In order to do that, theres going to have to be robust Border Security provision as well as funding to pay for it. Were got going to depend on future appropriations. We need to put that money set aside. The president also identified this issue of chain migration and diverse lottery. Hes going to insist upon. Were going to have to deal with all four of those. Cory gardner one of your colleagues was speaking right before you came on. He was talking about we will find out if this is all about politics or policy. Theres something that happened just today. The president is hosting a conference of mayors at 3 00 at the white house to talk about infrastructure. Now there are mayors who will not attend because the Justice Department has said that there might be some violations here of federal law and guidelines when it comes to immigration and sanctuary cities. One of the people decided not to attend is the new york city mayor bill de blasio. I will not be attending the meeting at the white house after real Donald Trump Department of justice decided to renew their racist assault on our immigrant community. It doesnt make us safer. It violates americas core values. Youve been around negotiations far long time. If you dont show up, you cant have a conversation about it. Which makes it all about politics. That seems pretty obvious to me. Were either a nation that believes in the rule of law or not. I believe firmly we are both a nation of immigrants and one that believes in the resume of rule of law. Unfortunately some mayors simply take this what i consider crazy idea that somehow theyre exempt from federal law. Theyre not. Do you think there is a reasonable compromise that can be made between some of these mayors . I think they have some legitimate reasons for being concerned about maybe these immigrant communities not coming forward to them with their concerns. They think going to be deported and causing more violence and crime in their communities. I think that the president might be able to actually listen to them and maybe find a way to address their concerns. I think the appropriate line to draw to get at what you said, you have to cooperate with federal Law Enforcement authorities with i. C. E. You have to respect their detainers if theyre local Police Custody and theyve issued a detainer, you got to hold them until i. C. E. Takes custody. Thats what were talking about here. Were not asking them to enforce federal law or do anything that will scare people. If i can ask you to put your old hat on. If you were chairman, you were able to flip back the senate at one point and the pew poll come out if republicans or democrats think they have the edge in midterms, democrats feel pretty good 69 , republicans better where they were, 58 . The math is more favorable this republicans this time around. How do you feel about chances republicans maintaining the majority. What are your concerns . Dana, history is not on our side because its a very rare when party in power is able to keep their majority or number of seats during midterm election. You identified two things. One is, we have a good map. We only have one senator who is incumbent and republican side whos got a challenging race thats dean heller in nevada. We can be on offense which donald trump won. Theres also policy reasons i think why youre seeing that generic ballot. Why the ballot is shrinking more in republican favor. Its because of good policy. Its the tax bill. Which is allowed people to see more money in their pockets. More benefits. Its also frankly the mistakes that my colleague senator schumer made in shutting down the government and demonstrating that they care more about the small population of people for whom we all have sympathy but have ignored needs of 320 million rest of us. Everyone got their work cut out for them when it comes to midterms. You got to go. Senator john cornyn. Thank you. Republicans give significant credit to the trump tax bill. Some democrats are skeptical. Lets bring in our panel josh holm and former chief of staff to Mitch Mcconnell and adrian for hillary clinton. Let me first go to you, josh. Take a look at this list of companies that benefited from tax reform through all sorts of different ways. Talking about new jobs theyre investing in, bonuses theyre giving. Some consumers of Electricity Companies finding out their energy costs will be going down. The party in power, the government going well. The economy is better. Republicans would seem to be in pretty good position now into the midterms. The economy is always the Biggest Issue in my election any election in the midterm. From this standpoint all those companies you listed. I a good story for republicans to tell. Its not so much just about Economic Growth and macroeconomics. Its how families are feeling. Do people have more money in their pockets than th
