The nation saying while his Health Condition continues to improve they added steroid to treatment while continuing the antiviral drug remdesivir. The doctors also clarifying why the doctors was taken to the hospital on friday, they were concerned of oxygen levels. The president experienced two episodes of transient drops in oxygen saturation. The determination of the team based on the timeline from the initial diagnosis that we initiated dexamethasone. Regarding the clinical status the patient continues to improve and remained without fever since friday morning and vital signs are stable. Arthel we have Fox News Team coverage on this, Mark Meredith has details on the latest positive test inside the white house, but first mike emanuel is at walter reed with details on the president s condition, mike. Mike al, this good arthel, good afternoon to you, here is the timeline of events as we understand them. The president receiving a second dose of the drug remdesivir saturday evening. The president did have an episode where his oxygen level dropped to around 93 . In response to low oxygen levels the president has received its first dose of dexamethasone, the plan to continue dexamethasone for the time being. That is a steroid designed to help the patients breathing. It is being used for covid patients, some with white severe illness. Here is the bottom Line Assessment from the president s physician. Doctor the fact of the matter is hes doing very well, hes responding and as the team said, if everything continues to go well, we will start discharge planning back to the white house. Mike when the president of the United States is in the hospital, you can bet theres a very experienced team of medical professionals treating him. An expert from Johnson Hopkins university in baltimore is working with specialists in walter reed and offered this analysis. Today he has been up and well, plan to have him eat and drink, to be mobile and if he continues to look and feel as well as he does today, our hope is that we can plan for a discharge as early as tomorrow to the white house where he can continue treatment course. Mike the scene outside of the hospital with the president of the United States in the hospital you have a whole lot of his supporters going up and down rockville pike, trying to express support for him for full and speedy recovery, arthel. Arthel well, the president is watching that and im hoping that it helps him on his road to recovery as well. Mike emanuel at walter reed medical center, thank you. Eric. Eric arthel, the president has tweeted and said that he really appreciates and thanks those supporters. Some critics, though, are using the diagnosis for attacks on the administrations handling to have virus condemning him for continuing to hold those large inperson events and even making fun of joe biden for wearing one and familys infrequent use of masks. Staff member close to the president has tested positive for the virus. How is the west wing responding to the latest developments today. The white house insists that it takes covid19 seriously but a lot of people were pointing to recent events, briefings or events in the rose garden as possible way that the virus spread throughout the west wing. It was last saturday where you saw the large gathering as the president named Supreme Court nominee. Since then a number of staffers and guests have tested positive including chief White House Correspondent, Senior Adviser hope hicks and some white house staffers are able to work from home, others are not especially those working with National Security council as well as their staff. The president s National Security advisers says team are making changes to make sure people are kept safe. Over a couple of days after this spreads to west wing, weve made mask mandatories for National Security staff and so far we are fortunate that we havent had anyone in the Senior Leadership ranks, i dont think weve had anyone in any of the ranks test positive. Mark but democrats say the white house needs to do more to inform the public of whats going on behind the scenes here at the white house. We heard from Senate MinorityChuck Schumer earlier today. And we are holding the president truthful about his condition and the condition of all those around him. Critics have also accused the president s Reelection Campaign of it knowing covid protocols. Weve seen those massive rallies, some of them are indoors, some outdoors but many people dont socially distance or wear masks at those events. Its unclear whether we will see rallies back in florida in september 24th after he gets out of the hospital. Vice president mike pence is hitting campaign trail and im told that more events can pop up on his schedule as more surrogates get out on the trail, eric . Eric luna, personal assistant who is very often with the president , almost all of the time helping him out with the personal type of matters. We certainly hope that he is well. Mark, thank you. Arthel. Arthel eric, thank you, lets take a look aten updated list of medications and vitamins President Trump is currently taking. Dexamethasone, regeneron, remdesivir, zinc, vitamin d, melatonin, aspirin and famotidine. I want to get your assessment of the medications that President Trump is taking, what does that tell you . Well, the bottom line is that the president is taking a variety of drugs, some of them have had studies to back them up and some of them are still in the phase and the medical team must be weighing risk benefits and deciding that he must be sick enough to be able to warrant the risk of taking a drug like regeneron which still does not have enough data behind it. But then again, as you mentioned, vip medicine is not necessarily evidencebase at all times so we really dont know what to make of it. Arthel i understand and its still early on as we do keep pulling for the president s full recovery. I want to switch over to the rose garden reception for amy coney barrett. A week ago yesterday while very few people were Wearing Masks at that reception, the white house is emphasizing that only those who tested negative were allowed to attend. Meanwhile, the white house is working overtime to Contact Trace those who came in contact with the attendees. Dr. Rimoin is Contact Tracing same as sequencing . Doctor very good question, arthel. The first thing that you need to happen is Contact Trace, you need to figure out who has been in contact with anybody that has tested positive and here is the thing about the rose garden event. We know exactly who has been in contact with whom. Theres very exquisite detail about this. Once we have that information we need to be testing everybody and testing them regularly to understand who may have been infected and who hasnt. The swabs have very Important Information in them, its not just about whether or not you are positive or negative, but that genetic material that is available will be able to tell us exactly who transmitted it to who and we can really reconstruct the event and understand how this virus made it into the white house. Its a matter of Public Health but also matter of National Security. We have been able to see sequencing data really for illuminate how the virus has been spread with the boston biogen event that spread virus across the United States, so we have this critical moment right now to be able to understand exactly how that virus made it into the white house, who transmitted it to whom and who could be infected and continuing to transmit. This has the ability if we do genetic sequencing right now move quickly, we could save many lives not just related to this but also to understand super spreading events into potentially save thousands of lives going forward. Arthel absolutely. I want to ask you a couple of things in my short time here, first of all, if youre onsite test results come negative, does that mean you do not have coronavirus . Doctor no, what that means is that you have a negative test from a rapid test. It depends on the test that theyre using but most rapid tests are not as sensitive as the Gold Standard pcr thats done in a laboratory. If they were using a rapid antige, those are less sensitive, 80 , if youre testing 100 people, there could be 20 people that are testing negative when they are actually positive. Thats why with rapid antigen they get recommended to get tested again with pcr. That are using rapid pcr test but known to have many false negatives meaning again you are testing negative but really positive so the rapid tests are actually not the best thing to use in this scenario. And id also want to remind you, testing is only a piece of this here because of issue of false negative. Just using testing and not Contact Tracing and youre only doing one piece of protection and you could still get really hurt. Arthel okay, im sure you are going say in the meantime we wear mask and social distance, wash the hands until we find they come up with an effective safe vaccine thats available for the masses, am i correct on that one . Doctor youre absolutely right. Testing is just one of the pillars, testing identifies people who are sick and pulling them out of circulation. Arthel yeah. Doctor those are the people that we know are positive. The people who you dont know are positive, you dont know, you to wear a mask. Arthel thank you very much. And coming up, we will take a closer look at some of the coronavirus hot spots across the country especially in the midwest. We will be right back. S. Recording more than 50,000 new cases of coronavirus just yesterday. That for the second day in a row. This as dozens of states are seeing new surge of infections especially hitting the midwest and down south. Wisconsin and kentucky both hitting record highs as new cases went up yesterday. The total number of deaths in our nation of our fellow americans keeps climbing and now stands past 209,000. Charles watson in the center for Disease Control for the very latest, charles. Charles good afternoon, eric. The situation is getting worse for the country as a whole as you mentioned rather, the United States reporting more than 50,000 cases on each of the last 2 cases each of the last two days, rather. The midwest is in part fueling that uptick in cases. North dakota if you look at it, continuing to lead the nation with the most cases for capita for the fourth week in a row and over in wisconsin positive cases have more than quadrupled in the last month as infected patients overwhelm hospitals. So say there was a slick road and we had a tencar pileup, we wouldnt have the beds to take care of all of our victims. Its not like hospitals are built with extra 3 floors and have extra 50 nurses on standby incase a pandemic hits. Charles new york city mayor bill de blasio says the city is moving to shut down a number of neighborhoods in response to growing outbreaks. The city says it will impose lockdowns in 9 neighborhoods between brooklyn and queens positive coronavirus viruses up more than 3 for week or so. Schools would have to shutdown as well and lockdown could begin as early as wednesday if new york state approves. And over to washington where the university of washington is trying to contain an outbreak among sororities and fraternities, a number of those infected rose to 144 students from 11 sororities and fraternities near the Seattle Campus and its the second outbreak to happen in the campus. Last one was in june more than 150 people were infected, eric. Eric all right, charles, thank you so much. Thats more than double the previous 1year record set in 2018. Most of the damage has come since august when lighting strikes set off dozens of fires. There are still two months left in the states official fire season. I was trying to reflect the the update attitude that the team, the president , the course of illness has had. I didnt want to give any any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction and in doing so, you know, it came off that we were trying to hide something which wasnt necessarily true. Eric dr. Sean conley cleaning up the confusion caused yesterday when the med acall team did not give full information about his treatment. Now the doctor says yes, President Trump was on supplemental oxygen for an hour at the white house on friday, something he did not admit to earlier yesterday and that the president had two drops in oxygen level, one down to at least 93 , he said there were findings from lung scans of the lungs but would not say what the findings were and doctors say it does take 7 to 10 days to see how Coronavirus Infection takes its course which means this will continue for at least a while. Associated editor for john bussey, john, do you think the briefings are enough to reassure the nation . John probably not, eric, they are filled with oblique statements on of the president s health, they are trying to paint a rosy picture. Hopefully hes right about that. Hopefully the president and the family are recovering from this disease. Its a pretty rough disease, but there have been enough inconsistencies, that a lot, eric, has to do with how the president is asking them to portray the wellbeing. He doesnt want to see weak, he wants the message going out that hes in control, that hes being the president , hes in the middle of a campaign and he wants his doctors to paint as rosy picture as possible. Remember, they are in the military. Its a Military Hospital and hes the commander in chief so what he says goes. Eric some people are saying, the media is nitpicking too much on this, they are doing the best they can, we see that video of the president , hes talking around, they say hes working and this sort of thing . John right, well remember we didnt know what was going on if bloomberg broke the news that hope hicks had gotten ill and tested positive. Its in the publics interest to know, who is in charge, is the person capable of fulfilling responsibilities. Most recent poll and this is why the president wants to be seen as being in charge, our most recent poll with the with nbc has the president down now by 14 points. Thats a pretty widespread. This was taken right after the debate, before the news that he was positive on covid. 14 points and it reflected the contentious of the debate and its entirely possible that people responded a little bit shocked and that he will bounce back from the 14point down. But very importantly, women are supporting biden by 27 Percentage Points and in handling of the coronavirus, biden got a much more favorable vote than and support than the president did, 52 to 35 in handling the virus. And the president is aware of this, he realizes that now the election is very much focused on the coronavirus, the damage that its done to peoples employment, and health, the 209,000 people that have died from it and now hes sick with it and hes in the hospital. He wants to change the narrative so hes talking and asking his doctors to paint a pretty positive portrait of him. Eric well, the health will eventually went out we certainly hope the best for the president and his health and the Administration Says they are doing a great job, this is hogan from the campaign. The p
