Fire may have started off of highway 12, but what started the fire still unclear. It has taken a thousand acres and a ton of firefighters from all across Solano County and yow yolo county. In the fire, one barn has been taken. In that barn, 100,000 worth of hay and farm equipment. One area employee was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but that person is expected to be okay. Our chief meteorologist joins us with why the bay area got so much smoke and whether well see the same thing this weekend. Its because of the offshore wind. The wind coming from northeast blowing any smoke and all of these fires were to north and east of San Francisco and oakland and the east bay. So all that smoke from thousands of acres that burned today headed to the southwest into the populated area. Millions of us had to deal with breathing that. Its not as strong outside right now. The winds arent, but the wind direction will not. Any new fires, we will be dealing with smoke again tomorrow. Check out the relative humidity humidity. Anything below 20 is considered critical. Thats according to a new report from the Inspector General. Kpixs kit doe tells us what else is in that report and how the lab is responding tonight. Some of the most powerful explosives in the world are at the Lawrence Livermore National Labs in the high explosives application facility. It has 56 rooms containing explosives. You would think there would be a hightech system, but this report by the Inspector General says otherwise. It freaks me out, too, because it is honestly and truly an extremely dangerous situation. The report said hundreds of unauthorized people had access to the explosives. Security, maintenance workers. How . Quote, the only physical security to most of the work rooms was a removable plastic chain placed across the entryway. How do they keep track . Most explosive work rooms had an eraseable white marker board. When asked, they said probably. Unauthorized people who have no reason to be there can get in, get the material, put it in their pocket, take it out, and theres no accounting by which they would know that material had been stolen. Thats an extremely dangerous situation. Explosives rooms dont have doors because they can become safety hazards in an accident. Most of the work involves small quantities of explosives, so a tracking system would slow things down. A lab issued a statement saying they have robust and layered security and addressed all the problems outlined in the report and that they are confident that all the proper security controls are in place.
