Computer hackers have reportedly gotten into yahoos advertising servers. They say the servers have been distributing malware to hundreds of thousands of users since at least december 30th. It exploits vulnerables in java. Whoever is behind the attack may be trying to sell control over victims computers to other online computers. Yahoo said it recently identified the malicious ads. Actions by an alert bystander apparently helped free a 7yearold girl kidnapped the at gun point. Police say the suspect, david douglas, followed the girl and her mother home from a walmart and showed a gun. He allegedly forced a 7yearold in his car and got off. A few hours had later at antioch marina, a woman got a call from her sister about the amber alert. She spotted a car nearby. I was going to knock on his window. I saw him laying down. Im like there cannot be an adult laying under him. I went to my car and honked the horn to stop the car. The car that stopped was a Police Officer<\/a> under cover. I just kept punching the horn, and he jumped out. 27yearold was declared safe and sound and reunited with her family. Investigators are searching for a motive for the kidnapping. Douglas is in jail on 4 million bond. If youre Health Insurance<\/a> is through cover california, you have extra wiggle room to make your first payment. The deadline is extended until january 15th. As long as you pay by the new deadline, you will be covered all month. The extension was granted after people reported getting an invoice from their insurance company. The city council is santa rosa is considering a plan that would relax rules for medical marijuana dispensaries. A proposal would extend operating hours, a limitation that caps sales at 500 patients for month would also be lifted. Dispensary workers would be able to use marijuana on the job on a limited basis. Santa rosa has two dispensaries. A saturday afternoon trolley ride in San Francisco<\/a> sent pour passengers to the hospital. The streetcar crashed into a big rig on the embarcadero yesterday. The other story weve been following closely, jahi mcmath, her Family Planning<\/a> to take her out of Childrens Hospital<\/a> oakland. The 13yearold was declared brain death last month after complications from surgery. The coroner even signed a death certificate. Her family believes shes alive and want to keep her on a ventilator and want a feeding tube inserted in her stomach. The hospital has refused to do so, saying it wont perform surgery on a dead body. The legal wrangling has been going on. The hospital has been Court Ordered<\/a> to keep her on a ventilator through tuesday evening. The family hopes to move her. The only thing that jahi is getting from assistance they havent given her food for 26 days. Jahi hasnt had the nutrients. There are a lot of people on ventilators. Are we going to pull them all . Do we let the hospital decide . Do we decide or let the hospital decide. The hospital has brought in its own experts and outside experts, saying theres no way for her to come back from brain death. I spoke with a lawyer from the hospital on friday. Its horrible all that this child has died. Its also horrible that its so difficult for her family to accept that death, and i wish and i constantly think that wouldnt it be great if the they were able to come to terms with the terrible, tragic event and that i didnt have to stand here in front of yall. Its emotional. You can see the lawyer is choking up. It is emotional and one that everyone has an opinion on. Thats why this story has gone national. As a result of that national attention, the lawyer tells us theyre getting offers for institutions to come in and take over. Were continue to follow that for you as the tuesday deadline approaches. Starting january 14th, the cost to park will rise by 50 cents to 2 a day. It will cost 6 to park at west oakland. The extra revenue will be used for station improvements. Parking at other stations will not change. The parking fee hike coincides with an increase in ticket prices as well. Fares went up about 5 on new year days. Joining us to talk about the price hikes is joel keller, newlyelected president of the bart board. My first question is did anybody else want you job . I think thats probably why i am the president. There was no second in line. Because the publics impression on bart is not at all favorable right now. They like the service. They like the rides, but theyre not happy at all about how things are being managed. What do you think is going to change this year or anything . I think youre right. I think weve had a hard year. Our brand has suffered. I think its important that the board and staff rededicate themselves on focussing what we do best, providing world class transportation. We have to work with our employees. We have had a tough negotiating period. Theres hard feelings. We have to revisit the employees needs. One of the questions that the riders i talked to asked is at what price . The cost of transportation is continuing to rise. Most people say if it was cheaper, i might take it more and take my family on it on weekend, but its not a cheap system. Thats a good observation, phil. The world has changed in transportation funding. In order to qualify for state and federal monies to restore the system , we have to come up with about 25 local match. So all the money from this cpi fare increase will go into a dedicated fund to help pay for the new rail cars, the new man answer in facility. As you increase prices, arent you afraid people are going to take it less or are people takes it more . Transportation prices are elastic. Theres a point at which people will not pay any longer. Were seeing continued ridership growth. Our ridership over the new years celebration was the highest history. Were continuing seeing support for the. As long as we provide a service thats equivalent in price, i think well be final. Lets go with parking, mentioning automobiles. One of the big complaints people have is they want more parking at bart. I understand theres a debate about the cost of parking, providing parking but also the Environmental Concerns<\/a>. People say they would take bart more if they could get a parking space. It is a double edged sword. We have to work with our communities and try to find ways people can get to our station without using a single occupancy vehicle, because theres an unlimited the demand for parking, the congestion around our stations, the environmental advantage that would do is significant. We have to find alternate ways with of getting people to the station, by walking, bicycling, taking a bus, car pooling. Im not sure people are going to do that, but well see that in the coming years. You just approved this contract. Two questions i get from people out there watching are, one, is anybody going to get fired over what happened . Yes or no . Weve already separated ourselves from the chief negotiator. The general manager is investigating. Once thats understood, shes take appropriate action. Okay. The second question i hear is that bart workers are in line for bonuses if ridership goes up. Are we rewarding them . No. I think thats what happened is youre aware of the mistake that was made during the negotiations on the 4. 8 or paid medical leave. So we went back to the negotiating table. The riders the workers will be eligible for a bonus but only if ridership grows by 1 . That will generate about a million and a half dollars for district. The bonus is equivalent to three quarters of a million dollars. This will only be available if the ridership growth occurs. In other words, theyre in line for a bonus in. They are. Back to you.
