And notice emeryville here where it is still quite dark, 57. Santa rosa 60 in napa with low 60s and the cloudy skies all the way out towards concord. Livermore and finally from our exploratorium camera, well get some sun here. Its going to be cool. Its going to be breezy and temperatures in the mid 60s or so throughout the afternoon. So looking at the widespread low clouds this morning, the drizzle is your closer to the coast and below average temperatures not only today and tomorrow, but it looks like much of the midweek, too. Were going to see very little change. The changes come maybe by the end of the week when we usher fall in. Theres a look at the low cloud deck all the way through the delta there. But thats where it stops. We have the clear sky by fairfield and then by about noontime, were sunny across parts of the bay. But those clouds want to linger right here along the coast and its going to take till maybe 1 00 until we clear a couple hours of sun. I dont think youll see much at all along the shoreline. And then the fog coming back into play for your sunday. Maybe a few high clouds to start the day in the east bay and the south bay. Heres a look at that one system. And then we get another system. Tuesday and then as we get towards your thursday and friday, could even see this pattern persists if this model verifies highs today. Low 80s in livermore, 79in san jose. Look for 82 in morgan hill and the accuweather seven day forecast featuring the cooler than average numbers tomorrow monday, maybe a little warmer by the middle to th end of the week and then fall arrives we handcraft every batch of our delicious popcorn. They tell us 30 to 10 is simply going out of business. Due to adverse business conditions, including the declining use of miniature practical effects in Film Production and also the halt in production due to the hollywood strikes. Sean house says the landlord plans to repurpose the building. Its a travesty. I mean, this is a historic place. The other part of it is its a tragedy for the bay area filmmaking community. We reached out to the buildings owner but have not heard back. Sean house says hes launching a campaign to save the campus and continue its film making legacy. We are in the process of setting up a go fund me so this is probably the coolest hidden gem of this property. This is the original theater. Tam, where another 15, 20 minutes till sunrise is very nice. 61, downtown, 63 in oakland, it is 65 in san jose. So a lot of 60s out there. Pier 39, very sleepy. Look there, 57 in santa rosa, 60 in napa. And that brings our temperature 24 our temperature change a little milder in the south bay. A little cooler up in the north bay. So throughout the morning hours, it is gray. Its in the 60s. Temperatures climb to near 70 by 1 00 and dont count on any sun by the coast. But numbers will reach about 80, maybe low 80s inland with plenty of 70s along the bay shore. And those cool 60s at the coast. Well let you know how your sunday is looking and the last week of summer in a few minutes. Stephanie thank you lisa. New this morning, hundreds of additional jobs at Cisco Systems will be cut. Police staffing across california continues to be a struggle. As of last month, the california Highway Patrol was trying to fill more than 1000 vacant officer positions across the state, according to the Public Policy institute of california. In 2021, the number of patrol officers per 100,000 residents was the lowest that it had been since 1991. But one bay area county has been trying out a new strategy. A 75,000 bonus, and yes, its working. The cost of living. Its astronaut nicole. It is difficult to afford housing here in the bay area. Alameda police chief Nishant Joshi says the shortage of officers in his department has been cut in half since implementing this policy. Coming up at abc7 mornings at 8 a. M. The chief will join us live to explain the impact its having on other departments across the bay area. A newborn is making news. A baby beaver was spotted in palo alto. Its the first time a beaver has been spotted in the area in 160 years. Abc7 News Reporter Lauren Martinez has a look at why this is important to the ecosystem. This small ball of fuzz you see scampering across is a big deal for wildlife experts at little beaver went down there in august. Bill leikam said one of his trail cameras near Matadero Creek in palo alto captured a baby beaver for this area. There have not been any beavers in this particular Matadero Creek for over 160 years. Experts say the industrial fur trade pushed the population to near extinction. To see the beaver come back on its own is a huge moment. That was a trek to get there. Those beavers were looking for new habitat. They were looking for a new place to settle down and they found it somewhere that they probably havent been for 200 plus years, which is just a huge moment for ecological restoration and bringing back a pretty awesome species to the bay. Beavers offer a slew of benefits to other animals and humans, so beaver ponds and the wetlands that they build are hotspots of biodiversity. Theyre uniquely resistant to droughts and to wildfires, and they can help take the power out of flood waves so that when we have these big atmospheric rivers and other kinds of storm events, its not so destructive downstream. Since beavers travel upstream. Dr. Rick lanmon has an idea of where they could head next. San francisquito creek is unique in the south bay because its not concrete. Its natural. So it could provide a corridor for beaver to get from this bay lands to the uplands, which is where we need them to get to, to fight fires for us. Right. Last year, bill leikam said his trail cameras captured a pair of beavers. While theres no confirmation they produced offspring, the video of the young beaver is offering researchers hope for their future. Its exciting. Its part of the reason why i do all of this. Theres the animal has been here before, but its been so long and its finally back. Its not that theyre moving into california or moving into the bay for the first time, like the beavers coming home in the south bay. Lauren martinez, abc7 news. Developing news. Hurricane lee is now downgrade to a posttropical cyclone after making landfall along the east coast. The 49 ers are gearing up for week two on the road against the la rams. Abc seven sports director larry beil has your morning sports. Good morning, everybody. Really we are giants game in denver last night they almost won while getting no hit. They end up getting two hits then lose to the worst team in the league on a walk off by the rockies. Go figure. Hey, you know what . If the giants win the world series, im going to dye my hair orange just like them. Please burn this clip. Burn the tape. Logan webb electric for most of the game. Ex giant kris bryant gets struck out there. Webb goes eight innings. Stop me if you heard this before. He gets no run support one one game in the ninth. Somehow the giants, they hadnt gotten a hit until j. D. Davis doubled to lead off the ninth. And that led to this. Later in the inning, bases loaded, two outs. Wilmer flores a walk forces in a run the giants take a21 lead somehow bottom nine two on for the rocks Elias Monteiro with a base hit to left off a Camilo Duvall who blew his eighth save Mike Yastrzemski with a throw throws on line but caroms off Charlie Blackmon duvall in the wrong spot to back it up so two runs score on the play nolan jones all the way from first thats your ball game everybody. Rockies win three, two. Good night game over drive home safely giants a game back for the last wild card berth padres and as Rickey Henderson still looks like he could play a long time as skipper bob melvin back in oakland for the first time. Padres i dont know whats up with it. Theyve underachieved all year, but not here. Fernando tatis junior with his 25th as the padres, built a five two lead. Speaking of guys hitting their 25th, brant rooker, the rookie smoked that ball, got the as to within five three. But frustration rising for the athletics, ryan noted there oh i want to have a word with you right now. Youre tossed as lose 834. The niners have won eight of their last nine against the rams. The nfc title game a couple of years ago being the painful outlier. But they meet again tomorrow in la. You know the niners they love to impose their will on opponents with a relentless running game led by christian mccaffrey, who had 152 yards and a touchdown in the season opening win over pittsburgh. Mccaffrey knows his success is directly tied to how effective his teammates block the thing i love about this team is the run game is a commitment of all 11 guys out there, and thats what makes it so special is, you know, one guy has the ball, but theres so much that has to happen in order to make it work. Not a lot of receivers in this league do it, but we take full responsibility like springing our guys free. Its just something we harp on every week. If everybody has the same mindset of just that physical mentality and im going to give it all every single play, that run game looks really pretty. Hey, if youre going to call out deion sanders, well, maybe just dont. Colorado state plays dions buffaloes this week, rams coach jay norvell criticized deion, saying you should take off your hat and sunglasses when youre talking to adults, addressing the media. What does deion do . Of course, he provides his whole team with this new line of sunglasses. His and the kids loved it. The buffs are going to beat the rams by like 1000 in this game. All right. Thats a wrap on morning sports. Have a great weekend, everybody. Im larry beil. Thank you, larry. And to weather now. Good morning, lisa. Hey, stephanie. Good morning. We are starting out with plenty of clouds. The cooling trend started yesterday due to a system offshore, bringing us good air quality, breezy winds and temperatures is below average. So that system is going to sit there for the weekend and into the beginning of next week. And thats going to provide a quiet week, very little change out there. And as we look at live doppler seven, a little closer in and youll notice its gray all across the bay area. Heres a look at postTropical Storm lee, where it is certainly weakening as we go through the next several hours. But it is bringing some pretty good surf and a little rain to coastal new england. And then as we get into the evening hours, making landfall up in canada and weve got a breezy clear evening on the way for much of boston, so not much of an impact here, but slightly. Well see a little bit of rain. And back home, mt. Tam looking at that deck of low clouds and a pretty view here as the sun is up 61. San francisco, as well as Half Moon Bay at 63 in oakland with mid 60s, san jose 64 in Mountain View and from emeryville. Well well get into some partly cloudy skies later on today. It is 57 santa rosa with 60in napa and 63 in concord. So cloudy everywhere except out by the delta. Heres the airport port. Temperatures will be below average with those breezy winds today. Tomorrow lingering cloud cover at the coast and some of that mist and drizzle very early in the morning. So with temperatures below average, should be pretty nice with 80s inland in those 60s and 70s across the bay. And then this this pattern persisting into part of next week. So theres a look of the cloud cover peeling back. This is 1230. And then by the early afternoon it comes back in quickly from marin, from the san mateo coast. And then we do it all again on sunday. But sunday morning, as the clouds pull back, we could get some high clouds. Still good air quality and well clear out to mostly sunny conditions. Theres a look at the wind by noontime, not much of it, but by the afternoon they get pretty gusty over 20 to 25 miles an hour. And then once again on sunday, maybe even a little windier up to 30 miles an hour. Highs today in the mid 70s from sunnyvale, 75 in milpitas with low 80s there in los gatos. So a bit below average. We should be in the low 80s in the south bay this time of year. 72. San mateo looking at the 60s here at the coast and that partly cloudy afternoon on the way in the city 78 in sonoma with upper 70s in santa rosa on the east bay about 70 for you in oakland with 75 in union city and fremont. You head inland just a couple of 80s we had a few yesterday it took all the way towards about 4 00 and then we cooled off quickly but certainly breezy out there the accuweather seven day forecast. So below average those winds with us again tomorrow feeling like fall and temperatures kind of bottoming out sunday and monday and then perhaps well get into a gradual warming trend by the second half of the upcoming workweek. But thats just one forecast model. Fall arrives on friday. We could even see maybe a few areas of mist and drizzle, maybe even a little light rain on friday. So well have to fine tune that. Okay. Good to know. And for tonight, for the 70,000 expected attendees at levis stadium, well just be slightly cooler. Yeah, well have some 60s kind of muggy. So a lot of people there. Good to know. Yeah. Did you know theyre called cheerios . I didnt know. I know. That was news to me too. Ed sheeran sure. So there we go. This is probably one of the most unique airbnbs youll ever see. Imagine taking flight to vacation in this. Its a World War Two plane remodeled inside and out for a vacation rental. Joe drager in wisconsin bought the dc three World War Two era plane for 10,000 and put another 50 grand into the retrofit. It was then put on stilts, so it feels like youre in the air car. And to top it off, they recreated propellers out of big ceiling fans. You can see there with giant blades hooked up to a converted motor car. Thats one way to take a vacation, right . Yeah, kind of cool. Yeah. Yeah very neat. All right. Well, we are looking at some sun this afternoon. Its going to take a little while and when we see the clearing, the breeze kicks up. 67, downtown, 70 in oakland. Looking at low 80s inland. The accuweather seven day forecast, maybe a few degrees cooler for your sunday final days of summer. Hopefully getting a little bit warmer by the end of the workweek. But by friday when fall arrives, there could be some discrepancies whether or not we see some raindrops or some warmer weather. So stay tuned. Stay tuned for that. Thanks, lisa.
