The fire started nine days ago and now covers nearly 76,000 acres. 2,000 structures have been destroyed and more are still being threatened. Four firefighters have been injured and three have died. Calfire says this is now the most destructive fire in california history. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The napa county fairgrounds is clearing out this afternoon. Many residents are packing up go home or at least whats left of their homes. There are 300 residents staying at the fairgrounds right now and officials plan to keep it open for those who still need a place to stay. The process of cleaning up after the valley fire is just beginning. Its a huge job. Considering that it destroyed 600 homes and other structures as well. Laura anthony is live from middletown for us. Reporter this section right behind me contains maybe six homes but multiply this by 100 or more, that gives you an idea how big this cleanup will be. This excavator is just a preview of the massive cleanup effort that lies ahead at the valley fire with hundreds of properties devastated by fire and the debris thats left in its wake. Much of it containing toxins. That debris can contain some harmful substances that are not visible to the eye. Reporter thats why returning residents have been instructed to do as little sifting through their rubble as possible. And if they do, to make sure they wear gloves and masks. For the first time today the suspect at the center of the val edgeo kidnapping appeared in court on a complaint linking him to the crime. Hes a harvard educated attorney who is accused of not only kidnapping Denise Huskins but possibly in connection with other Home Invasions. Now hell be facing another harvard trained lawyer representing the u. S. Attorneys office. We got a look at Matthew Muller today in court. This is a sketch of him. He was in plain clothes today. His Attorney Says likely the clothes that he was initially arrested in. Hell be entering a not guilty plea on his behalf. At issue in court is whether or not hed be fully shackled in the future. The judge decided yes. Mullers family and friends were also in court today. His family did not want to speak on camera including his mom who investigators spoke to prior to his arrest after muller left his cell phone behind in a dublin Home Invasion, they tracked the phone to his family who in turn pointed investigators to his South Lake Tahoe home where they found muller and more evidence linking him to the vallejo crime. A family friend who has known him his whole life said his family is shocked.
