Video. A traffic stop turned into a pursuit with this suspect chasing into this garage with police behind him. Police say they used a taser and he was unaffected by it. Police say the 32yearold martinez struggled with officers. He was able to break free of the officers and run into the kitchen where they were able to get ahold of him. Both had their arms around his neck and then they drug him inside of the house and shut the door. This man in the garage and a friend of martinez gives a different account. They drug him inside of the house and closed the door and i could hear them tasering him and beating on him the whole time. I heard three or four more tasers. Reporter police say he resisted arrest and bit a officer and backup officers arrived. As he was handcuffed, they realized he was not responsive. All of the officers have aeds in cars and we immediately started providing lifesaving measures, including cpr. Reporter police say martinez d died at the hospital. And his mother said he was murdered. He didnt die in the hospital. What do you think happened . They beat him up. They murdered him there in my living room. And he said his 6yearold daughter watched it all. He had convictions for assault and drugs and other Violent Crimes and his family said he was trying to get his life together and had a job and leaves behind a 15yearold son and 8yearold daughter. Well the soberanes fire burning near big sur has turned deadly. A bulldozer operator was killed overnight working the fire line in Monterey County. The fire has scorched nearly 24,000 acres. It is only 10 contained so there is a long way to go. It has destroyed 20 homes since it broke out on friday. Cal fire estimates another 2000 are still threatened. But as you could see in our inland areas, still sizzling right now. Over 100 degrees in fairfield and concord and upper 90s in other inland locations. Overnight temperatures not decreasing. Of course we wont see hot conditions overnight but remaining mild, especially in the inland areas where temperatures will just drop into the mid60s and low 70s in some locations by 7 00 tomorrow morning and then ready for another warmup tomorrow. Tic the Highway Patrol is investigating what caused this fiery accident early this morning along 880 in san leandro. A truck hauling motor oil burst into the flames and the driver was killed. Why the driver crashed is still a mystery. Amy hollyfield has the story. Reporter the aftermath is tough to look at. A man died in this crash. The big rig he was driving is hardly recognizable. There was so much damage, investigators didnt even know what he was hauling. It spilled and could be dangerous. Initially we didnt know what it was carrying. Any markings or placards burned up. Reporter here is a look at fire that broke out when his truck hit the concrete divider. The driver was not able to escape and was killed. Investigators havent found any skid marks. There is no indicators of another vehicle being involved yet and there is no vehicle indicators of a brake application or anything being applied before the collision. Often when this occurs, it could be someone falling asleep or having a medical issue. Reporter it happened at 4 00 a. M. On northbound 880 in san leandro. Investigators had to shut down one lane and the davis offramp. They got the debris cleared out and the lane open by 8 00 a. M. But the backup by then was extensive. This is i880 through the east bay so even on a good day traffic is miserable through here. Reporter they estimate that about 1,000 gallons of motor oil spilled here so the hazmat team has to remove and replace all of the soil that absorbed that oil and also flush out the sewer system since some of it spilled down the drain. San francisco Public Schools are losing their superintendent. That is right. He has accepted a position to lead the School District in houston. He took over the San Francisco unified School District four years ago. Abc 7 News Reporter Lyanne Melendez is live with more on his accomplishments and why houston. Reporter this is a man who pulled out of the race for superintendent of los angeles schools back at the beginning of the year. Well, he told me houston on the other hand is a good fit. He said he wants to do some of the things hes done here, but at a larger scale. Houston is the largest School District in texas. Of course, much bigger than San Francisco unified. In between meetings, the superintendent of San Francisco Public Schools, richard car anza sat down to discuss the reasons for accepting the houston offer. When the opportunity to go to houston came around, i did my homework. And the work that they are doing around equity and the work they are doing around language, the work that they are doing around meeting the needs of all students. Reporter he recently divorced and said being single again offers him a chance to spend more time at work. A superintendent in the field is worth two in the feet. Reporter hes been known to shadow students and drop in on teachers. During his four years as superintendent, suspension rates went down. His team focused on pouring more resources into underserved communities and he got Silicon Valley more involved in the classroom. He said his greatest achievement has been to increase the Graduation Rates among africanamericans. Besides raising salaries for teachers by 12 over three years, he agreed with the union on how teachers are evaluated. We are able to have a teachers Evaluation System that relies on teachers performance and not on test scores of students. On the lighter side, he is known for his love of mariachi music. Certainly. Lets get to Spencer Christian for the accuweather forecast. Earlier in the week, we were hoping for or expecting a break in the tripledigit heat by the weekend. And now it looks like we may have to wait for the end of the weekend. Here is a look at live doppler 7 hd. We have sunny skies and hot conditions inland. Although it is comfortable where i stand here near the coast as we have the cooling low clouds at the coast as you could see here at the golden gate bridge. The forecast features tomorrow. The fourth consecutive spare the air day. Air quality is declining in some parts of the bay area throughout the week. Wide range of temperatures could be expected through saturday and this intense heat will ease by sunday. Overnight, look for a fog at the coast moving over the bay but not very far inland and low temperatures in a mild range of upper 50s near the bay and low 60s low to mid60s in the inland east bay. So mild and perhaps uncomfortable overnight. Here is the fog forecast animation. Just limited fog around the bay early tomorrow morning, about 7 00. A lot of low clouds and fog at the coastline of course. And so then after 8 00, well see the fog that is out over the bay pulling back to the coastline, giving us another hot day inland. Hazy conditions in the south bay as more smoke from the fires to the south move up into our region. And of course fog will linger at the coastline. High temperatures tomorrow in the south bay will be in the mid to upper 80s down to san jose with a high of 88 and then upper 90s in morgan hill and gilroy and low to mid90s in the los gatos area. On the peninsula, highs of 82 at redwood city and 84 mountain view, upper 50 toss around 60 on the coast and downtown San Francisco a high of 67 tomorrow. Up in the north bay, 91, 87 napa and 76 at oakland. 64 at Castro Valley and the inland will have numerous tripledigits from fairfield to antioch to livermore. And before we get to the sevenday forecast. Air quality once again, i mentioned tomorrow is the fourth consecutive spare the air day. Good near the coast and central bay but the valley will once again have the poorest air quality. Here is our accuweather sevenday forecast. Notice tripledigit heat in our inland areas will not wind down until after saturday. Even on sunday, well still see mid and maybe mid to upper 90s inland but then the temperatures continue to moderate into next week.
