Were few people in this coffee shop behind me when a man walked in with an Assault Rifle capable of carrying up to 70 rounds. They were sitting in a coffee shop, you know, taking a small welldeserved break, and they were basically surprised by this gunman. Reporter two Vallejo Police officers were taking a break on sunday night when police say 41yearold adam powell walked in and namaimed a Assault Rifle directly at them. His weapon malfunctioned and he was not able to get off the shot. Reporter powell ran away as shown in this Surveillance Video from the gas station next door. Seconds later the officers caught up with him. He was attempting to clear that weapon plume presumably to use it as they were chasing him. Reporter powell was shot three times. Police say besides the loaded assault weapon he also had a loaded handgun and was wearing body armor. The suspect is the father of 2yearold Adonis Powell shown here in a family video. The toddler was shot accidentally five hours earlier in this home in suisun city. Police and family members say adam powell was there when the boy was shot but took off before police arrived. The initial indications that it seems to be an accidental shooting in suisun city. Hes in stable condition. Reporter 19yearold brianna bauers is the toddler sisters. Adam powell is her mothers boyfriend and she does not believe he was trying to kill the officers. I assume maybe that he possibly thought his son was dead and just was distrout and just wanted to commit suicide a certain way, who knows. Reporter now, according to police adam powell has a criminal history with convictions for robbery and drug offenses. He was shot three times and remains in critical condition. His son is in stable condition, and according to family members is expected to survive. In vallejo, laura anthony, abc 7 news. Laura, you say adam powell was there when his son was shot. Is he a suspect in the shooting . Reporter well, eric, at the time of the boys shooting adam powell was in the house were told both by family members and by police. He was considered a person of interest because he left the home before police and paramedics arrived, but Police Maintain they believed that shooting was an accident. They do not know yet though whether one of the guns that powell had in his possession phere last night was used or wa the gun that accidentally shot the little boy in the family home in suisun city. Other news now, the wife of a warehouse worker in san leandro has just learned her husband was killed at work when he tried to stop someone from stealing a wooden palette. The driver who stole that palette ran the man down around 11 45 at the True World Foods parking lot on williams near mers ed street. Police say the driver had been caught stealing palettes from the back area of the business. Elissa harrington will have a live report coming up at 5 00. Jury selection began in the case of teen sierra lamar who disappeared in 2012. The man who is accused of murdering her antolin garciatorres could be charged with the death penalty. Hes also charged with kidnapping during a carjacking. Lamars body has never been found. Many potential jurors cited hardship after the judge told them the case could last through april. So that fact alone is going to weed out many potential jurors so theres going to be a long proses here and this case will take a toll on everyone. The judge left the possibility of a change of venue on the table in case the jury pool says it cant be impartial because of the media coverage. Lamar would have been 20 years old on wednesday. It was a rough landing for the two people on board this twin turbo prop at the hay wad airport this afternoon. Sky 7 was on it after it ran off the runway after landing. Something went wrong with the landing gear causing the 12seat plane to veer into the grass. It wasnt damaged, and the two people on board werent hurt. In San Francisco downed power lines were a big problem on geary boulevard last night. They landed on parked cars near third avenue cutting power to people who live nearby. Pg e says there are just 68 customers now without power in the bay area from outages related to the storm.
