Reporter this is bo, a robot with a mind of a child. Maybe some day you expos to things and they pick up things much faster than you would imagine. Bus he is cofounder of playi, a starter that wants to teach children more than how to play with robots, it wants to teach them to program them as well. Kids at a very young age, as young as preschool, can grasp programming concepts. After first designing the robots, the too came up with behavers that a child would be able to both program and enjoy. The key, they say, was coming up with a simplified version of computer code that younger children could learn and then build upon. The Software Interface can be run from smartphones and tablets. In this case colorcoded dots are sequenced to program the robot to play the xylophone. I will go down, go to yellow and hit it again and its a sequence, thats a program and told the robot what to do. He said in test groups the system worked with children as young as five years old. As kids progressed they can move on to more sophisticated coding, including popular programming languages like java. Its to help kids compete in the world. Our kids have fallen far behind than other countries schools. And i thought how can we make it fun, exciting and accessible for every child. Its a process him and his team believe they can jump start with the help of a freewheeling, xylophoneplaying, programmable robot. Carolyn johnson, abc7 news. Playi is currently taking preorders for the robots which start at 59. It plans to start shipping them later this year.
