These heros will not be with their families tomorrow celebrating thanksgiving. The police union video says so far this year 56 officers have been killed by gunfire, a 70 increase over last year. The video comes on the heels of an incident earlier last week when a gunman shot at two officers in east san jose. Neither was hit, but its the second time this year when someone fired at San Jose Police officers. He wasnt threatening nobody. That man took care of his kids. Reporter kelly says the only public expression of anger and indignation comes when theres an officerinvolved shooting. There ought to be anger and outrage when our society begins to accept that cop killing is the new normal. A san jose communitybased activist Group Silicon Valley debug calls the video divisive. I think its ludicrous. At a moment like this, they really should be building with community, gaining more trust and they are doing the complete opposite. Studying abroad is a rite of passage for many college students, but some universities, including san jose state and santa clara are now urging undocumented students to avoid traveling outside the country when president elect donald Trump Takes Office. We are asking our students to keep in mind that if they are undocumented it might be best to stay in the country until we learn more about the future of the dhaka program. The cattlement Football Team diced potatoes and showed compassion for those who dont have a place to spend the holidays. It shows that were giving back to our community and were practicing what we preach. Reporter all of this food will be served tomorrow at the Community Center at Campbell Village in oakland. Reporter music seemed to fuel the hearts of these Homeless People in richmond invited by the bay area rescue mission. The organization which also helps families in need had a long line of volunteers serving lunch to more than 1,000 people. The great thanksgiving banquet is our way of sharing a great hot nutritious thanksgiving meal to people who are truly in great need. Reporter Sherwin Harris was himself homeless but in 1994 his life changed and now works for the rescue mission. He tells others to never give up on themselves. Just take a chance. Invest in yourself. Today state health fishermen wanted to delayed the start of the crab season due to the toxin that can cause food poisoning. Dungeness crab south of the area are still safe to eat. Tourists heading to San Francisco this thanksgiving weekend may be a little disappointed to see fewer sea lions. Abc 7 was at pier 39 as about 100 sea lions soaked up the sun. That may seem like a lot but its really a far cry from the thanksgiving of 2009 when about 1,700 sea lions crowded the docks. Experts say sea lions are leaving in search of fish which are saying away from the bay because of warmer sea temperatures. This isnt really a permanent home for them. Its a place where they rest. They find food. If theres a lot of food, great. If not they will leave and they will go find it somewhere else. There are some promising signs for sea lions. A survey of breeding areas of peps are health they are last year when many were found starving along the coast. A federal judge blocked a new rule that would have made millions of workers eligible for overtime pay. That rule was supposed to take effect next week and now its on hold. Abc 7s Michael Finney is here. Hurting so many people this time of year, absolutely amazing. This rule would have helped 5 million white collar workers collect overtime pay in december. Currently workers earning 24,000 less per year are entitled to overtime pay and the new rule would have doubled the salary limit. Those earning up to 47 per year would be entitled to overtime. 21 states sued to stop that increase saying it would hurt economic growth. The judge blocked the new eligibility ruling until he can decide whether its legal. Before you hit the black friday sales a Consumer Group is warning about unsafe toys still out in the marketplace. The California Public Interest Research group offered its annual trouble in toyland report. Its urging parents to watch for toys with small pieces. Also, call prg found websites are selling some of the 44,000 toys recalled this year. We found that 16 of the recalled toys were available online. And they include the sky rover, arrow cruise and the green monkey which has lead paint and the bud and skip it pull toy which has small pieces. Call prg says check the federal government recall list before you buy. Shipping companies are expecting a record year for holiday deliveries and urge customers to arrange delivery to a safe place.
