Crews are cleaning up after a twoalarm fire broke out in chinatown. Flames were coming from a third floor of an Apartment Building on Waverly Place between sacramento and clay streets. Firefighters rescued one person who suffered smoke inhalation. Waverly place shut down right now as investigators look into what started that fire. All lanes on southbound i880 after multiple cars were involved in a bad accident. The crash happened around 3 40 this morning on the Marina Boulevard onramp. Four lanes were blocked for about an hour and a half. You can see one of the cars ended up on its roof. Its unclear how many people were hurt. Chp said those who were hurt have minor injuries are expected to survive. Breaking news out of france this morning. The country remains under a state of emergency after police shot and killed a man for allegedly trying to grab a soldiers weapon at the orley airport. The soldier is part of a special force deployed around france to defend sensitive sites from terror attacks. 3,000 people were forced to evacuate the airport. Police say the man also shot an officer at a traffic stop earlier and stole a womans car at gun point. The antiterrorism section of the Prosecutors Office is leading the investigation. The mans identity is not known at this time. No other injuries at the airport have been reported. A m is in Critical Condition this morning after police say he was naked and acting erratic, and led them on a chaotic chase around the south bay. It started yesterday afternoon when officers responded to valerie drive and eva court in campbell. Thats when the chase was on. It ended 30 minutes later at Stevens Creek boulevard in san jose. Abc 7 News Reporter marzullo has the story. Reporter this pursuit came to an end on Stevens Creek boulevard. I heard a popping sound. And then the officer i saw the officer firing into the vehicle. Reporter james shaw said he heard 12 shots. San jose police say it started around 1 30 when they responded to 911 calls about a naked man. He was kind of agitated about something. All of a sudden he took his clothes off. Running in the yard. Running back to his truck which is parked in front. Still naked. Reporter the women say he rents a room in a house on eva court and they dont really know him. They finally called police after another neighbor came home with her children. Went running towards them. Like charging the kids. Naked. And these kids are like fourth grade. So theyre all screaming and crying. Reporter when Police Arrived they say the man got in his truck, rammed a parked truck and police car before taking off. Officers chased him. He got into an accident with another car and ultimately broke down at the safeway. Thats where officers tried to take him into custody. During that encounter, multiple officers fired at the suspect. He was struck at least once. Reporter police have not revealed if the man was armed. The District Attorneys Office is investigating. In san jose, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. Sky 7 was over palo alto where this suv slammed into a bicyclist sending her to the hospital. Police were trying to pull over the driver when that driver went down the wrong way on a oneway street and ran over the woman on the bike. It happened yesterday afternoon about 3 30 on homer avenue near emerson street. Police arrested two people after the crash. Three other suspects, a man and two women, ran away and were eventually found hiding in a shed. The bicyclist is talking and is expected to recover. President trump has vowed to crack down on undocumented immigrants. Now reuters is reporting that Immigration Judges are going to be moved around to target 12 specific cities, including San Francisco. The goal would be to speed up the deportation of undocumented immigrants charged with crimes. Abc 7 News Reporter sergio has the story. What more judges means is that many more people will get deported. Reporter according to figures from the university of syracuse, in december california had the highest number of pending deportation proceedings. But professor bill hinge said more judges may not be the solution. The real problem is that, in my opinion, too many people are being put in deportation proceedings that dont need to be in deportation proceedings. Reporter hinge said immigration and Customs Enforcement agents broadened their interpretation of crimes that would put people into deportation process. Agents have been more aggressive in other enforcement efforts. Even the chief justice of the state california courts wrote a letter to the u. S. Attorney general and Homeland Security said i. C. E. Agents should not use california courthouses as bait to take immigrants into custody. These new strategies are stirring fear in the community. And some organizations are trying to manage those fears. They really create a great deal of panic. And the panic is understandable, but it doesnt correspond with reality. Reporter since donald trump took office, three bay area counties, including San Francisco, have pledged to provide Legal Resources for immigrants. Abc 7 news. Secret service said a man was illegally on the white house grounds for 16 minutes completely undetected. Jonathan tran is accused of hopping over a fence eight days ago. And moving right up to the sort portico where he jiggled the door handle to get in. He didnt get inside and agents arrested him. Secret service has tightened security and has interviewed more than 50 people to try to get to the bottom of that breach. Equal pay for women in a meeting with donald trump. Reporter the consul general in San Francisco would go no further, not even to say whether russia would hand over the two intelligence agents if found guilty. The d. A. s office has been trying to get the critical report for the past month from the Fire Department and the city attorneys office. Legal experts say the delay in handing over the report could violate the law. Thats because if the report is submitted for review, a copy must be provided to the prosecuting agency for review. 36 people died of smoke inhalation in the december fire. Investigators have not yet said what started the fire. A story youll see only on abc 7 news, a former Napa High School student expelled over the hazing scandal fears the punishment will have severe effects on his life. Abc 7 news was at the schools headquarters where dozens of students march out of class in support of their peers. Thursday Night School Board expelled two students for hazing. A third student had already been expelled. In an exclusive interview, he said that dream may now be gone. I lost part of my life. I lost a big part of my life. I lost respect. I lost hope. I lost a lot in the past few months. Prosecutors are considering criminal charges in that case. Thousands of San Francisco students and parents are in limbo this morning, waiting to find out where many students will go to school next fall. School assignment letters were scheduled to be mailed out yesterday, however, the mailings have been delayed. The catch is, these victorian houses have to be relocated by april 30th. The developer is offering these houses for 1 each in order to meet city requirements for relocating potentially historic properties. And time is money. The reality is, getting all the permits and approvals by the end of april would be difficult, if not impossible. There are the logistics of moving the home that could cost 60,000. And involve moving power lines, tree limbs and signal lights on the way to a new location. And finding vacant land zoned residential nearby. It has to be large enough to accommodate the home. You have to make sure the land has the right regulations that allows a home is placed there. And that the neighbors are okay with that as well. In oakland, im leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. Workers for a bay area Solar Company who just got laid off got more final bad news, their paychecks bounced. They laid offer 160 employees earlier this month. The mercury news reports some of those employees last paychecks bounced when they tried to catch them. Sungevity is working to fix the problem there. The company filed for bankruptcy four days after the layoffs. It was a little crowded yesterday not because of the warm weather, work is under way to upgrade the popular promen e promenade. A section is blocked off with a fence. The National Park service will resurface the walking trail to prevent puddles and potholes. The work will happen in stages to avoid too much disruption. Cal trans crews shook a bridge back and forth with a chisel to try to get it to fall. Its been a month since the bridge has been closed. After landslides damaged both support pillars and the bridge deck. Earlier this week cal trans tried yucking a wrecking ball but it wasnt hitting the bridge with enough force. Weve been chiselling away in a very methodical, careful, safe way. We want this bridge to fall in the canyon the way we want it to, not in an uncontrolled way. The most important thing is not the cost or the speed in which the work is done. The most important thing is that the work is done safely.
