This is a man whose rear end has its own twitter account. Really . That is a true statement and i believe the proof is right there. Thats what dan has in common with him. Were going to have a lot of fun. But we also have two major stories to get to. Martha raddatz and jon karl standing by on the new crisis in iraq. President obamas big decision. Thats right. Reporter across the island, giant trees are no match for the winds. Crashing down on highways and power lines and electricity out to 25,000 hopes leaving people in the dark. The only light from power lines catching fire. Right now its 6 00 p. M. And the winds are steady at almost 20 miles an hour. Its now 9 00 and were seeing winds over 30 miles an hour. Its now midnight and were seeing gusts here up to 50 miles an hour. Some of the 200,000 tourists in hawaii are finding flights between the islands delayed or canceled. One flight from honolulu to los angeles left five hours early to beat the storm. Theres 22 of us. Yeah. Yeah, so its were looking out but were hoping the rest of the family gets home okay. Reporter those powerful waves running 15 feet higher than normal this morning could flood the coasts and a new fear that saturated ground will give way causing dangerous mudslides. Now the eye of iseel has officially made landfall on the big island. Officials warn theres still the rest of the system to pass over. Of course, theres hurricane julio coming right after, thats a category 3 storm. Amy . All right, its going to be busy there for Clayton Sandell in the hours to come. Lets get now more on the storms path and what we can expect over the next few hours. Iselle made landfall just after 2 30 eastern time. Theres still quite a few impacts that we need to talk about, it made that landfall five miles east. Watch this. The satellite image shows you how quickly the friction of the big island killed that thing. Whatevers left will take this track south of the island. So not everyone out of the woods. Our eyes turn to julio, right now a very strong category 3. Just north. Well be tracking this all throughout the morning right here on good morning america. George . Now to the crisis in iraq. President obama authorizing air strikes to protect americans there and humanitarian airdrops, food and water to help tens of thousands of iraqis under siege by the brutal Islamic Militant group looking to take over iraq and threaten america. Abcs Martha Raddatz broke the news and joins us from washington. Good morning, martha. Reporter good morning, george. Its been nearly three years since u. S. Forces left iraq, three years since the president announced the war was over. But this morning, u. S. Warplanes dropped bombs on the president s order. It is a stunning turn of events. The u. S. Poised to enter a war that the president wanted to forget. But with Islamic Militants poised to attack erbil, two f18 this morning dropped bombs on an isis military team. We intend to stay vigilant and take action if these terrorist forces threaten our personnel or facilities anywhere in iraq. Reporter the president has said there will be no u. S. Boots on the ground. I will not allow the United States to be dragged into fighting another war in iraq. And so even as we support iraqis as they take the fight to these terrorists, american combat troops will not be returning to fight in iraq. Reporter but before the president spoke last night, americans conducted that difficult and dangerous humanitarian mission, three u. S. Air force cargo jets escorted by two f18 fighter jets dropping critical supplies during a lowflying 15minute pass in a race to stop a catastrophe. Tens of thousands of people who fled to the top of a mountain in sinjar now slowly dying from blistering heat, pleading that there is no water, no bread. Nearly 40 children already dead. They are trapped 3,000 feet up with no escape because down below isis terrorists are warning of a slaughter if they return. The u. S. Aircraft dropped 5300 gallons of water and 8,000 meals ready to eat. Humanitarian and the combat missions will likely be ongoing. Stranded families will need more food and warplanes will continue to strike isis targets if they are seen as a threat. George . Have to be ready for that. I want to go to abcs jon karl at the white house. And, jon, the president ran for president promising to end this war. Clearly reluctant to make this decision. Clearly in an animated discussion with Denis Mcdonough after making the decision to authorize these air strikes. But as i said, this was not a decision he wanted to make. Reporter you could sense the tension here at the white house yesterday, george, as he was making this decision. This is a president that is reluctant to use military force anywhere but especially in iraq. He sees it as one of his top accomplishments as president ending americas involvement in an unpopular war but in the end the president felt that his hand was forced. It was forced because you had a humanitarian catastrophe where the u. S. Military could come in and make a difference and it was forced because that terrorist group is advancing on a city that has a large u. S. Consulate and there is a threat to americans serving there. So in the end, the president s hand forced to make a decision that he has long resisted making. Jon, the president is still going on vacation tomorrow heading up to Marthas Vineyard but is also scheduled to return to the white house next week . Reporter thats right. Its a twoweek vacation at least thats what its scheduled. Hes scheduled to come back for two days. White house officials wont say what the meetings are for. Its not necessarily about this but you can imagine this will be high on his agenda and as the president goes to Marthas Vineyard he is taking several of his top advisers, including his National Security adviser susan rice, and he has all the Communications Equipment to handle this. No president as you know, george, truly goes on vacation. Thats for sure. Okay, jon karl, Martha Raddatz, thanks very much. George, thank you. Less than an hour ago the center of Tropical Storm iselle made landfall on hawaii bringing 50mileanhour wind and lots of rain to the big island. The storm has knocked down trees and left 25,000 people without power. Many flights between the islands this morning are delayed or canceled. Four flights from hawaii to San Francisco have been cancel. Mikes been tracking the storm all morning long. The wind have been kind of the smaller part of what we were worried about with the storm. It was the floo iding. Sure enough, were seeing the storm slow down as it slams into the southeast coast of the big island. The heavier rains are moving to the southern tip right now. Its a beautiful sunny day here in manhattan. And everyone is so excited to hear from luke bryan this morning. Yeah, we cant wait to head out to the park in just a bit. But first, we have a lot to get to including a truly incredible road rage incident and a driver this a highspeed chase went after the man who shot him and we have the dramatic 911 call. Plus, a wild scene at one of the most popular Atlantic City resorts. Guests suing after allegedly being roughed up by aggressive security guards. You can see it right there. What the Surveillance Footage reveals coming up. Wow. And then we have extreme parenting, the new show revealing some unusual ways parents are raising their kids including one family using hypnotherapy and another that lives a nomadic lifestyle all coming up. Okay, thats coming up. But first, that sensational trial out of florida involving three teens in a love triangle. Pedro bravo charged with murdering his best friend who was in a romantic relationship with his exgirlfriend. Prosecutors are revealing what they say was the murder weapon in court and abcs linzie janis is tracking the case. Good morning. Reporter good morning. Prosecutors unveiling in Court Thursday pieces of evidence they say were found in searches of pedro bravos car and apartment in the days after his friend went missing. The items they say prove how bravo murdered his victim. Overnight florida prosecutors revealing more evidence in the death of Christian Aguilar showing jurors this photograph of the belt they say pedro bravo used to kill his former best friend. Bravo allegedly sedating aguilar with a concoction of drugs in a gatorade bottle then using the belt to strangle him, a process that took 13 minutes. Prosecutors claim the murder taking place inside bravos suv in a Gainesville Walmart parking lot. The two friends spotted shopping together in the store, the last time aguilar was seen alive. Theres a small impact in the windshield itself where the glass was broken. Reporter prosecutors showing the jury thursday photos of a cracked windshield covered in duct tape and bloodstains on the suvs seats and on a pair of shoe insoles and a can of paint kept in the car. All signs investigators say of a violent struggle. Thats the location where the shovel was recovered from. Reporter and photos of this mudcaked shovel found near bravos gainesville apartment. Prosecutors implying it was used to bury his victim. Prosecutors claim aguilars murder was the result of a love triangle. Bravo dating erika friman in high school. Friman calling it off heading to gainesville for college and dating aguilar. I didnt want to throw him over the edge or anything and say, by the way, im dating a mutual friend of ours. Reporter they say when bravo found out he hatched a plot to kill his High School Friend in order to get friman back. Bravos attorneys say he is not guilty of murder. Well, bravo is charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, illegally transporting a dead body and providing false statements to law enforcement. He faces life in prison. If hes convicted. George. Thanks. Dan abrams here right now and, boy, the prosecutors have quite a case there. There are very few cases that go to trial with this much evidence against someone. Youre talking about physical evidence that linzie laid out, youve got computer searches, youve got video evidence, youve got motive in this case. Youve got almost everything you could possibly have and the defense is, yeah, we were together and you know what, yeah, we got in a fight and i bloodied him and then i left and thats the last thing that i know. I mean that is a really long shot type of defense in a case like this. And so what happens now with the defense . Do they put pedro bravo on the stand . You know, ordinarily in a case like this id say no way hes going to take the stand. Yet when you look at what the defense is and think about what a long shot defense it is, seems to me it may be the only hope that they have is that somehow hes a really good witness who will lay out exactly what he claims happened, that, yes, were together. Then we get in a fight and then i leave, but its just its such a tough defense that you think about Something Like taking the stand, and you say, it might be the only shot that he has. The emotional impact of having the exgirlfriend on the stand. Oh, absolutely. Shes the motive. I mean, shes laying out point by point exactly why he would have done this talking about how emotionally fragile hed become. You know, he did internet searches for unsolved murders and sleeping pills and, again, the allegation here is that he may have drugged the victim before the attack, so this is a tough defense. Okay. Dan abrams, thanks very much. All right, thanks, guys. Turning now to an incredible story of road rage revenge. A california driver shot several times decided to then chase after his assailant and the whole thing was captured on a 911 call and video. Abcs brandi hitt has the story. 911 emergency. What are you reporting . Yeah i just got shot at eastbound 91 at harbor boulevard. Just got shot at. Reporter a desperate call for help in the middle of a cartocar shooting. Are you hit . Yes, im hit. Reporter the victim Kenneth Baker merging on to a Southern California freeway in broad daylight when his window suddenly exploded. Glass spraying his face. I noticed where the bullets hit on the side of my truck. It was inches away from my head. I didnt know this man was trying to kill me. Reporter baker says he didnt recognize the shooter in the car next to him and decided to chase him down calling 911 with one arm while nursing gunshot wounds to the other. I think my arm is shot. Im trying to catch up to him now. Okay, well, thats probably not the best idea if hes shooting at you. Im im right behind him now. Reporter he says the two swerved in and out of traffic at speeds up to 95 Miles Per Hour. Baker cutting across bushes and freeway exits to stay on his tail. Officers eventually taking over the pursuit and arresting 32yearold Jerry Valentin from arizona. This outcome could have been so much worse. Absolutely. It could have been much more of a tragedy. We discourage victims and witnesses to engage with armed individuals. Had i not chased him down, the man would have gotten away. Now hes in jail. Reporter valentin has pleaded not guilty to four felonies including attempted murder in a crime that for now appears to be a random act of rage. For good morning america, brandi hitt, abc news, los angeles. Oh. Scary stuff. All right, time now for the weather and ginger and i know that a lot of folks are seeing scary stuff in the pacific. Thats the thing. We see something we do not see often if at all. You see julio right there, very organized and tight. One, in a Clinical Trial eliquis was proven to reduce the risk of stroke better than warfarin. Two, eliquis had less major bleeding than warfarin. And three, unlike warfarin theres no routine blood testing. [ male announcer ] dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious, and in rare cases, fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. We are back at 7 42 with that incredible footage of a family allegedly roughed by security guards at a popular new York City Hotel and casino. Theyre suing harrahs. Brian ross has the story. Reporter in a jersey oceanfront resort of Atlantic City, a place where everyone is welcome, gamblers, hipsters and family. But thats not what the binz family of florida found. It was miserable. It was absolutely miserable. Reporter university of pennsylvania student and classical guitarist shawn oaks fared no better. He says his disagreement with the Hotel Security guard got him puched, kicked and stomped on according to his lawsuit. Not what you expect when you came to Atlantic City. Not what i expected. Reporter and it was even worse for former College Basketball player rob koenig after being in a nightclub. I was laying in a pool of my own blood. I thought i was dying. I thought i was dead. Reporter all of this took place in one casino in Atlantic City, harrahs, part of the giant Caesars Entertainment now being sued by the unhappy customers. In the case of the binz family, security moved in after binz became upset when told he was being evicted because the hotel computer mistakenly did not list him as a guest even though they had been staying there for two days. Watch what very few would call good hospitality. They grabbed him and just slammed him to the floor, and all i could say was, get off of him. Hes got a pacemaker. Reporter then his mother and daughter headed for the elevators to their room, and security swooped in to stop them. First the teen daughter is wrestled to the ground and handcuffed and then mom brought down and dragged off by a man in shorts who her lawyer says is the casinos head of security. It ended up with early termination of what was supposed to be a very nice family trip. Reporter all this comes as Atlantic City is struggling to improve its image and appeal to tourists. And the mayor was upset by what he saw when we showed him some of the videos. Beating cant be tolerated. Its unacceptable. Violence cant be tolerated. Reporter harrahs employees claim the binzes and the other two were the aggressors. Mr. Brian ross from abc news. This director of security would not answer any of our questions. Sir, were not allowed to comment on any of this. Reporter you think this is appropriate . Did you go over the line . Later in a written statement, the casino said its security personnel are trained to use the least amount of force required while taking necessary steps to protect guests, employees and themselves. But there was no comment on any of the cases involving the dramatic videos. Brian ross, abc news, Atlantic City. Who knows what happened before, but that video is really something. Incredible. Yeah, you ask me to dance, it wont work. The dan harris shuffle. No . Not today. Well save it for the weekend. From one hollywood heartthrob to another, ryan gosling can rest easy. He has officially arrived. A restaurant in san diego called bang bang has a bathroom tribute. Paid him the ultimate compliment and turned it into a ryan gosling shrine. They go with the word shrine. Fans are using the bathroom stall for impromptu photo shoots. Even pretty little liar star Shane Mitchell got in on the action. What, do you want to go in there . Creepy. Its way creepy. The whole point of privacy in a bathroom is no one is watching you. Now ryan is watching you . Talk about stage fright. But we wanted to see the concept so we gave it a go in the social square. Much better there. Well let you in on that one, dan. You never know what i might do if you let me in there now without being prompted. You might be dancing. Thats really freaky, though. I dont want to see pictures of anyone. Its a private moment. I think we can all agree on that. Yes. Now back to you, george. The heat index coming up. Lets go to ginger in central park with the weather. Oh, im just hanging here with luke. Oh, hi, luke. I asked what color his eyes are and i said, are they hazel, are they green . They all said, theyre perfect. We cant wait for luke bryan on gma, but we do have Something Else, a huge headline to talk about this morning, and that would be iselle making landfall on the big island. You can see the track. It will eventually be sliding south of the other islands, but, remember, the right quadrant as we call it or that right side is where some of the strongest and worst weather occurs, so its not out of the woods even though youre not on the big island. You could still see some strong winds, certainly huge surf. I think rain and mudslides are still our major concern. Ill leave you with a look across the nation where relatively quiet here domestically, but thats the big picture. Lets get a check a little good morning, i am meteorologist mike nicco with the microclimate forecast. We have clouds in the morning. Afternoon sunshine. More along the coast. It will be breezy this afternoon. Clouds return tonight. Drizzle is possible. Mostly at the coast. Temperatures are steady through the extended forecast. Today is 60s along the coast into San Francisco and the peninsula and 70s elsewhere and 80s inland. Sevenday outlook shows minor fluctuation in temperature you know, im just missing one thing, and leah said we can share the country hat. Luke, we cant wait to see luke bryan. George. Thank you, ginger. First up in our heat index, the Marketing Executive and father of two taking on those touchedup ads. Seth matlins calls it a Public Health crisis and is challenging dove to live up to its real beauty campaign. Abcs Abbie Boudreau has the story. Reporter theyre the flawless photos like these that even some alisters say are too touched up. Kate winslet criticizing this cover claiming it overly slims her thighs. Lorde annoyed with a photo she says was altered. Even Keira Knightley protesting a publicity photo that the star claims boosted her bust. And this morning father of two and Marketing Executive seth matlins says he too has had enough with retouching, so matlins started a petition online hoping to expose what he describes as an industrywide Public Health crisis calling on dove, famous or their decadelong real beauty campaign, urging the company to make real beauty more real. Advertisers need to recognize that they are responsible and accountable for the Health Consequences that these ads are creating. Reporter matlins is asking dove to set a bar by signing his pledge acknowledging whether or not they photoshop their ads and if they are photoshopped, to not run them in places where children can see them. In your opinion does dove photoshop even in this Real Campaign . I dont know what dove does and thats the point. The point is we dont know what is real anymore. I think today were seeing the brands are trying to be more real, and we see it in the marketing thats coming out, but theres still so much work to be done. Reporter dove has yet to sign on saying in a statement, when the Dove Campaign for real beauty launched in 2004, we made a commitment to all women that we would not distort any of our images to create an unrealistic view of beauty. Still, matlins is hoping his passion project will call for change. This is not going to fix everything, but it is the ethical thing to do. It is a step in the right direction, and what im confident of is were going to be no worse off. Reporter for good morning america, Abbie Boudreau, abc news, los angeles. He is fighting a good fight. I know, and a lot of celebrities are on board with that. They say they dont want their images photoshopped and i think that will also help turn the tide. Good for them. I always want my image photoshopped. Always. We asked everyone at home, do you think photoshopped pictures should be labeled . Heres what you said. 92 said yes. 8 said no. All right. Well, thats a pretty precise conclusion there. All right, were going to go next on the heat index to extreme parenting, a new tv show sparking debate among parents by showcasing some of the unusual ways people across america are raising their families. Abcs linzie janis has the story. Reporter its the show that has got parents talking. Bravos new docuseries, the extreme guide to parenting. I always do this before i do anything. Really . Reporter parents like shera and andy adler exposing their unconventional parenting approach. The adlers practice what they call an ecokosher shamanistic approach. We caught up with them at their home. I observe nature and i appreciate and try to feed and sustain my family based on the Natural Cycles that exist on the earth. Reporter the adlers make a habit of incorporating aromatherapy, crystal therapy and meditation into their childrens busy lives. Their son, yonah, according to mom and dad, is an indigo child with a sixth sense. I can just sense things when im like halfway asleep. Reporter theyre just one of nine unconventional and unfiltered families featured on the show. Whoo reporter and while it might be tv gold, some parenting experts argue that the show exploits children. My concern is that it doesnt allow a safe place for children just to be a kid. Reporter future episodes will dive into the lives of other unique families with equally unique parenting methods from the nomadic lifestyle. Where are you going to go to the bathroom . Right here. Reporter to hypnotherapy. Are you trying to hypnotize me . Yes, i am. Reporter but mom shera says the goal isnt about winning some medal for having the best parenting style. If you listen a little bit differently to your child, it was worth it. Reporter for good morning america, linzie janis, abc news, new york. This life aint good enough a few tips there. Or not. Theres not one way to do it but 99 ways to do it or not to do it. Or not do it. And finally in our heat index, one of the hottest Health Trends among celebrities, aloe vera, stars are guzzling down aloe vera juice for its Health Benefits, but some say it could do more harm than good. Aloe vera, you dont just slather it on, now you drink it down. Aloe vera in juice or water form is now the hot new beverage of choice. Nicki minaj says she drinks aloe vera water to keep a clear complexion and alicia keys said she loves to add it to her drinks, so what do they know that we dont . Aloe vera juice is a source of vitamin a and vitamin c which is essential for healthy skin but increasingly people are using it as a beverage basically for skin benefits, digestive benefits and other benefits. Reporter weve all heard of pulling off a stalk of aloe for a burn and dermatologists recommend it for its antiinflammatory properties. Thats whats helping with the redness reduction and the inflammation reduction that we see in sunburns. Reporter but drinking it . What exactly does it taste like . Gmas summer interns were game to give it a try. Do you like it . What does it taste like . Like bitter lemonade. No, that was bad. Like it hurt. It tastes like coconut water. It was really good. Kind of like apple juice. Reporter while the sweetened versions may taste better, calorie counters beware, some of the juices are high in sugar. Some of these are sweetened with fructose or cane sugar and one bottle that i saw had 220 calories and 30 grams of sugar. Oh, my gosh. Eat a cookie. Eat a cookie. Or drink a can of soda. Reporter and its best to keep your aloe vera juicing to a minimum. The problem is as an herb, it may have some negative effects in terms of health. Theres been some research pointing to the fact that it can have the effect of thinning the blood so in combination with blood thinners, this can be potentially dangerous so, you know, buyer beware. We have no scientific proof on how safe aloe vera is to drink in large proportions. Reporter still im going to try just a little sip. I think its pretty bland. It tastes like im just eating face cream, which i might have done before. Now more studies have to be done before they can actually say it has Health Benefits and always consult a physician but with that said, lets take a little sippy. Oh, its not what i thought. It tastes a little like soapy water to me. It tastes like water with a slight aftertaste. But theres no reason you should jump on this. Its just a new trend that theyre still studying, so you can leave the soapy water behind. Stick with coffee. Thank you. Lets go to amy in central park with luke bryan. [ cheers and applause ] all right, thank you, george. Multiplatinum country superstar luke bryan. Its loud. Yes, it is loud. Youre having a pretty good year, luke. Youve had four backtoback number one hits. In may he made billboard history by simultaneously owning the number one and two spots on the country airplay chart.
