Two people died. All of it in the span of two hours. In san jose, a person died shortly after they were hit by a bta train around 4 30 this afternoon. It hit the person just south of the fruitdale station. The tracks were closed for nearly two hours. To san bruno and a second deadly encounter. This time involving a b. A. R. T. Train at the san bruno station. It happened around 6 00 this evening for two hour ps and causing major delays for trains to the east bay and sfo. And also tonight, an amtrak train struck a car just a few minutes later. And another person was hit by a commuter train. The amtrak crash happened in santa clara around 4 30. The driver of the car did suffer injuries. And is expected to survive. And a pedestrian was struck at the san Mateo Caltrain station. They were rushed to a hospital. But we dont know their concern tonight. Trains, single tracks in the area a few hours, which caused major delays up and down that system, as well. It is bizarre. And it is apparently connected. Tonight, nbc bay area has learned that the brutal attack on a hotel maid and the suicide of a guest in San Francisco are linked. The question is, how . And why . Nbc bay area cheryl hurd spoke to police late this evening. She is at s. F. General. The hotel housekeeper, thats where shes being treated. Thats right. We dont know her name, jessica. And we dont know what led up to the assault. We do know shes in intensive care here at s. F. General. She was brought here after being attacked on sunday. But it gets more complicated than that. No one knew she was attacked until she came up missing at the end of her shift. No one could find her at the end of her shift, at the marriott marquee at 4th and mission. The employee was found in the penthouse suite of the hotel. Reporter that was close to 5 30 sunday night. When she was found, she was suffering from lifethreatening injuries. Reporter police say she was the victim of assault. As we conducted the investigation, we found evidence at the crime scene that link the assault to an apparent suicide that had happened earlier. Reporter police were called to the thotel, seeing alexander on the fifth balcony. Police say the man jumped from the roof. He was in San Francisco for the cardiovascular Search Foundation held here. He was the Communications Director for the foundation. Police wont confirm if the victim was sexually assaulted i can confirm that the case is being handled by our special victims unit. Sexual assault is one of the cases that svu handles. Our concern is for her, and her family. Reporter he is the president of the union respecting hotel housekeepers. The unions going to conduct our own investigation. We want to make sure that our members are safe and secure in their jobs. Reporter San Francisco police are telling me they have surveillance tape. A followup on a story that we broke. Tonight, one of the deputies charged with killing an inmate made some questionable searchs on the internet. All three correctional deputies were in court today. Investigators say that Deputy Rafael Rodriguez made a number of searches online right after tyrees death. Rodriguez apparently looked up, quote, can you die if someone punches you in the armpit. If you get punched in the armpit, will you defecate. It could be a turning point. It shows that mr. Rodriguez was trying to figure out what caused this death. But more important mly, they te to accomplish that it was excessive force. It is an ongoing investigation. The three deputies, by the way, will be back in court next month. Scary moments inside a san leandro walmart. A 40yearold man sprayed up Halloween Costumes with lighter fluid. The video captured by a shopper in the store at the time. Security guards did manage to catch the suspect, who is believed to be from oakland. They also put out the fire. Hes been arrested on suspicion of arson. Its not clear why he set the costumes on fire. A hitandrun suspect remains at large tonight. New video of a white shark attacking a seal near alcatraz is giving swimmers something to think about tonight. Will they be diving into the bay saturday for escape from alcatraz triathlon. Right at the site of the shark attack. Jean elle is in San Francisco with more on the shark sighting, which was caught on camera. Reporter the aquarium of the play launched its sharks of alcatraz program. And a real shark showed up for lunch. It was all caught on tape. Its a rare sighting. But experts say those big sharks are in the bay more often than we think. A Security Camera onboard an Alcatraz Cruises ferry, shows a white shark shooting out of the water with a seal in its mouth. A shark attack, right next to the irelasland. I knew what i was seeing. Reporter he was in the pilot house of the boat. He said it was surreal. The blood in the water. And saw the shark thrashing around. Reporter down at the dolphin club and aquatic park, members are training for the 35th escape from alcatraz triathlon. 59 swimmers are signed up to jump in the water at the scene of the shark attack. It will be an interesting saturday morning. I think people have some nerves about going in the water. That was a pretty big pool of red blood there by alcatraz. Reporter a sign at the club says they are monitoring the situation. This is fantastic, showing what the bay has in terms of animal life around here. Reporter stephanie is an Education Specialist at aquarium of the bay. She says the video is important for researchers. Its believed to be the first white shark attack in the bay caught on camera. But she says Research Shows its not the first time the white shark has been in the bay. And it wont be the last. From tracking and tagging, we know they come into the bay. And most likely they do prey on some of the seals and sea lions. Reporter the crew is on the lookout for others. And so are the triathletes. A little more motivation to make a good time. Reporter maybe they will set new time records. I did not hear anyone talk about skipping the event. Theres a practice swim on friday. Reporting live in San Francisco, jean elle. A controversial plan to include prisoners with violent backgrounds in an inmate firefighting unit has been scrapped. Public safety concerns after word got out about the proposal. California continues to look for ways to increase the pool of firefighters. They look to expand the program for inmates who have up to seven years left, instead of the current five years. 3,800 inmates of professional firefighters are in california. Jeff ranieri. Well take you into the morning forecast tomorrow. The largest change will be the high clouds increasing. Well have a nice rebound to begin in the north bay, with 59 degrees. San francisco, 62. And for the peninsula, well start off with 61. The forecast will no doubt tomorrow be driven by this storm system thats off to the south. Now, as we get a look, it is beginning to ramp up the rainfall. Its not superheavy. Right off the coastline of los angeles. And eventually that will be moving closer to the bay area by tomorrow. Thats the biggest change, right now at 11 19. The forecast models now have the storm system speeding up. Its going to be going a little bit faster. With that said, i have updated the forecast to include the possibility of a few isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly at the immediate coastline, near the Santa Cruz Mountains to monterey. The largest thing will be five to ten degrees of cooling. The better chance to get any kind of thunderstorms would be on thursday morning throughout the bay area, as this area of low pressure moves off to the south and also to the east. But not only this storm system. Wednesday night and also on thursday. But another chance of some rainfall as we head throughout saturday. Now, this storm system will break up by the time it gets here. But at least, we might get showers up into the north bay. So, both of the storms definitely had me thinking about el nino. And me thinking about el nino, i know you guys at home, its probably on your minds. So, lets take a look at tell mean in owe strengths. Weve opinion hearing a lot about how strong this el nino is. Right now, it ranks third. The one were dealing with here in 2015, the one in 1997, and number two, in 1987. This is based off of sea surface temperatures. What would this mean for us . The way climate forecast models have it now, it means a 40 chance of aboveaverage rainfall, middecember through march. A 33 chance of average rain. And a 27 chance of a dry winter right now. The good news, this 40 chance of aboveaverage rain will go up over the next 30 days, as we will look at the storms come winter. Lets take you to the microclimate forecast. We have that in morgan hill with 91 degrees. Also, right here in pacific coe, with 72. San francisco stays in the 70s tomorrow. Again, it will be cooler there. And also, cooler in the trivalley, after 99 in livermore today. Well see temperatures drop to 92. If youre heading up to wine country maybe for a business meeting for or pleasure, temperatures in the low 90s. Lets take you into this upcoming weekend forecast. Once again, we expect the slight chance of showers on saturday. Most notably, as we head through the next couple of days, we see the cooling temperatures, as we head into sunday. It will be enjoyable. With 79 in the south bay. And San Francisco 69, north bay at 80. We were talking about a halloween storm system yesterday.
