Urgent to this search. The search was suspended overnight and resumed at dusk. Search teams are hoping the tracking dogs will able to pick up a fresh scent today. The problem is tracking a Mountain Lion is not an exact science. This Mountain Lion has traveled this area multiple times. There are literally paw prints that crisscross back and forth. Its hard for the federal tracking dogs to tell which are the most recent. On top of that, it was hot yesterday and the heat tends to suppress a scent. Theyre hoping to have better luck today. The Mountain Lion attacked a little 6yearold boy yesterday afternoon around 1 00 and pulled him to some brush. His family and another family of five were hiking a trail near the winery. A witness says the child suffered injuries to his neck and back and was bleeding very badly. The local Wildlife Agencies want this animal caught because its likely hell attack again. Even after the attack, the evidence, in fact, the tracker did find evidence to suggest that lion actually followed that family back down to their car when they were trying to get the child to safety. That is indicative of extremely aggressive, dangerous behavior from a lion. While this search continues, area trails are closed. The boy has survived and is recovering at Valley Medical Center where his condition has improved from fair condition to good condition. Now, just because there are search teams looking for this Mountain Lion doesnt mean that theyre actually going to find it in the last attack in the summer of 2012. They looked for six days. And that happened in another part of the state. They looked for six days and still couldnt find the Mountain Lion. If it is found in this case, that Mountain Lion will be euthanized.
