Months of drought have already taken a toll on oregons landscape. Nowhere is that evident than a detroit lake. The lowest water level in 46 years exposed 19th century town. Reporter wanda moore reports from central oregon. Reporter what lies beneath detroit lake. This fall, residents of detroit were able to find out. Yeah, it was bizarre. Reporter what they saw were remains from another time. A 19th century utility wagon, perfectly preserved underneath the lake surface, all these years. People in town couldnt believe it. Thought it was a hoax, you know, kids, you know, they just thought, been there all of this time and no one saw it but they didnt realize, yeah, it could happen because the water wasnt down that low before. Reporter what made this disdi discovery possible, mother nature. Lack of snow meant lake drained 143 feet below capacity over the summer. Even in the winter, at its lowest, it hasnt been this low before. Reporter county sheriff Deputy Dave Zahn went on a Treasure Hunt expecting to see some remains. The 200person town abandoned and flooded in 1950s when the dam was built. And while u can see some remains of the town when water levels dropped. Places you could see, even driving by, that i had never seen before. Reporter probably wont for a while. Now the water levels have already risen again, burying its secrets below the lake. Wanda moore reporting. Trying to fill our lakes. We are getting a break in the rain here. And theres more rain in the forecast, sam. Its not completely done for us. Although this break has been nice with the sunshine. We need warmer temperatures. As we take a look at outer sunset, nothing going on now after our temperatures this morning dipped into the 20s in some spots. And some 30s. Even in San Francisco, 36 degrees there. But the record was 33 degrees. We did set a new record in napa. It dropped down to 25 degrees, and the previous record was 27 degrees. Now its in the mid to upper 40s, even 50 degrees now in napa. Its warm up quickly under all of that sunshine. And as we take it to the trivalley, in livermore, at lunchtime, were at 45 degrees, low 50s and then it starts to dip once again. When the sunsets, temperatures will be dropping fast. Close to freezing tonight. But i dont think well be as cold as we were this morning. As we go into tomorrow, our warming trend continues by a degree or two. Lets tack a live look now at heavenly. Now the ski resorts are back open, still chain controls needed on lesser traveled roads. But the ski resorts are all open and they are packed. Take a look at north star. You see several people just lined up. Ive been taking a look at all of our Weather Underground cameras and they show lots of people enjoying the snow. If you will be going there, pack tire chains in case. Weather continues to dry out. Here in the bay area, looking at some mid50s into the next few days. Last few days of the year, if you can believe it, mostly sunny skies and highs that are slightly cooler than average, reaching into the low to mid50s. We will have a slight chance of rain in the forecast tomorrow for the north bay but thats pretty much. The low pressure system and the cold front dips down and slides off to the east bringing scattered showers for the north bay. I dont think it will reach San Francisco. And then High Pressure moves in again. That keeps us dry and chilly with widespread lows dipping down into the low 20s. Into the weekend, as we celebrate the new year, we will have some rain moving in on sunday. Until then, more dry weather, highs that will be in the mid50s. And even getting near 60 degrees by the end of the weekend. But morning temperatures, sam, its going to be chilly, as we go into the next few days. Midnight temperatures for new years.
