And a fire in vallejo. Crews knocked it down quickly with the light rain. No exact cause has been determined. And today in Eastern Ukraine crews are reportedly collecting evidence and bodies from the sprawling crash site of the Malaysian Airlines flight 17. The pro russian separatists allowed International Investigators in for a brief, limited visit to the area. It is still not being fully investigated there despite the fact the plane crashed three days ago. Ukraine leaders accused them of shooting down the airliner on thursday. Sk tear of state john kerry called on the russian government to follow through on its promises to insure a fair investigation. Theres a buildup of extraordinary circumstances and circumstantial evidence. Ive tried cases on circumstantial evidence. Its powerful here. But even more importantly, we picked up the imagery of this launch. We know the trajectory. We know where it came from. Now one separatist leader claims that his group has recovered the black boxes from the flight. He says there are no plans to hand them over or there are plans rather to hand them over to the Civil Aviation organization. Right now theres no official word as to where those black boxes are. The victims of the malaysia Airlines Flight were honored at the 20th International Aids Conference taking place in melbourne today. That starts at 5 30 right here on nbc bay area. Some random summer showers hitting the bay area today. Take a look at video from mill valley this morning. It wasnt a lot. It was just sprinkling getting on the windshield, but it was so bizarre to be happening in july. We are joined now with a look at the first weather. Rob . The skies are interesting. We have fog and mist around San Francisco. We are used to seeing that, but the skies east of san jose, you can see Mount Hamilton there, almost the explosive development here of cumulus clouds off to the east. We could see showers around Mount Hamilton into the night. In the meantime, off to the east we have the big action. 400plus lightning strikes up and down the sierra. And too much rain falling right over yosemite with a Flash Flood Warning this afternoon through 7 00 tonight. This affects the rem fire burn area and all of Yosemite National park. This is a dangerous time whe campers and hikers are up there and local flash flooding is possible into thooechbl. Now some of the thunderstorms are trying to drift off to the west. You can see how some of the moisture is pulling away from the sierra heading into sacramento and napa county and fairfield. I do think it will be napa county, Solano County and parts of northern Contra Costa County and Sonoma County tonight that have the best bet of seeing the remnant moisture spilling back over to the bay area. And we still, as long as the sun is up, have the power to fire up these convective showers off to the east of san jose. We may see that creeping north near morgan hill before 7 00 tonight. Scattered showers will continue across the north bay. A chance for thundershowers which will continue into tonight. Well let you know how long this rare weather pattern will stick around in your sevenday forecast coming up in a few minutes. Back to you. Rob, thank you very much. Cell phone video captured what appears to be officers using a chokehold on the man, which is a violation of the nypds approved tactics. Nbcs ron mott has the latest. Reporter it happened on staten island. Cell phone video Shows New York City police confronting 43yearold eric garner whom they suspected of illegally selling cigarettes when things got physical. One of the officers applied a chokehold and another officer pinned his head to the sidewalk. Moments later i cant breathe. I cant breathe. Reporter garner complained he couldnt breathe eight times. He later went limp and died. All he did was break up a fight. Reporter ramsey recorded the incident on his phone. You have a protocol to follow and they didnt follow none of it. Reporter the citys mayor and Police Commissioner acknowledged the officer appears to choke garner. The chokeholds are prohibited by the new York City Police department as they are in fact by most Police Departments in the United States because of the concerns of potential death arising from them. Reporter saturday garners widow collapsed at a rally before protesters marched to the Police Precinct near the incident demanding justice. Amid the growing anger is sadness. Since garners death was avoidable, this woman saw it all. I was angry because he didnt deserve to go like that. They literally jumped on this man. The one with the 99 on his shirt, im pretty sure that he crushed him tight. Thats how hard he took him down. That was ron mott reporting. Well, still to come, caught on tape. A hot air balloon and explosion. A new federal investigation now into what went wrong. Also they were not following the law. Sysco will pay one of the Largest Consumer settlements in history by almost 20 million. Packages by Sysco Company were reported and heres the latest. We have the latest look at the Consumer Protection investigation. Inspectors say what we uncovered was longstanding and widespread. We first showed you how Sysco Corporation wasouting outdoor Public Storage sheds across north america. Raw meat, chicken and dairy kept on the floor for hours in the height of summer. Food we tracked to restaurants and hotel where is it was served to countless people. And we saw that this was really a very common practice. Reporter Patrick Kennely is a food safety administrator. What you saw was not an anomaly. This has been a longstanding practice. Reporter kennelly said that he reviewed four years of sysco employees and found 25 address estatewide and a number of food items that were never inspected. This came to light because of your sterling investigation. Reporter santa collar ray Deputy District Attorney fran allen and santa cruz d. A. Kelly walker. This is a major health issue. Reporter they led the task force that brought this Consumer Protection lawsuit against sysco, the company agreed to settle for 19. 4 million. My understanding is this is one of the Largest Consumer fraud settlements in california history. And sysco is being held accountable. 19 million is not a slap on the wrist. Reporter the complaint alleges sysco violated state laws for how the company transported food and that it falsely advertised the safety of its food. This is what we do. We protect the public from people who dont follow the law. Clearly they were not following the law. Reporter the safety expert jerry rogers says fines are good but stricter regulation is also needed so companies arent tempted to cut corners. One of the probably weakest links in the entire Food Supply Chain in the country is the transportation and storage of foods. Reporter sysco declined our request for an interview but in a statement sysco ceo bill delaney said, we accept responsibility for the breakdown in our system in california and we have taken this opportunity to improve our practices. But multiple sources told us this was a problem across the u. S. And canada. This is a fricking storage shed. Reporter state inspectors have also been in touch with the usda regarding sheds in other states. For now, the focus is on the fine and preventing this from happening again. Without the whistleblowers who brought this to your attention and to your reporting that brought this of course to our attention, we wouldnt have known about it until maybe somebody did get sick or worse, somebody is hospitalized or died as a result of product getting contaminated because of the way it was being handled. Prosecutors say the 19 million settlement will be paid in several parts. As a penalty that covers state legal fees as funding to train and deploy more food safety inspectors and provide food to 58 state food banks. Just go to nbcbayarea. Com and click on investigation. Very active in civil rights with a heck of a career. A heck of a guy. I go back to the maverick days all the way forward to the rockford files. And now rob mayeda is here with your forecast for you. We are seeing interesting conditions out there. Especially looking out near san jose over to the east of the hilltops. You are seeing clouds blow up sort of like macys day balloons going for a ride in the east bay hills. Over Mount Hamilton, you have towering cumulus clouds it is not producing any thunderstorm activity but it is quite a sight east of san jose. A cool 67 degrees in San Francisco where the fog is the story there over San Francisco. But you can see the lightning up in the sierra where the Flash Flood Warning continues around yosemite. Lightning to the east of gilroy and a few more up near lake county. Whats interesting is some of the moisture from the sierra is drifting out to the west, but the showers are weakening as they get into napa county, Solano County and also parts of Sonoma County. This area right here from concord north into napa county will be the best bet for seeing ongoing showers for you this evening. Meantime in the south bay, most of the shower threat will be on the hilltops as you can see there. Once the sun sets, that should lose some of the convective pop of some of the showers we are seeing now on the coastal rains both to our south and north. Its the moisture over the sierra where well have to watch this coming in later tonight. Still some heavier showers east of king city. You may see some brief shower there is around Mount Hamilton and also east of morgan hill over the next two to three hours. So the weather pretty interesting here with passing showers, but really nothing to measure in the rain gauges. Just enough to wet the ground daily city up to mill valley, but that alone is more than the zero we typically see in july. Kirkwood over to the sierra, more than an inch of rain. Almost two inches of rain near groveland. So thats the reason for the Flash Flood Warnings around yosemite. One more round of moisture coming in from the north bay. As you saw on the radar trend, there is the best bet for accumulating rainfall in sonoma and napa county going into tomorrow. And possibly thundershowers in Northern Lake county heading into the afternoon. So rainfall accumulations from here. Weve had just enough to wet the ground and a few spots in between now and about noon tomorrow. It looks like well pick up just a little bit more in the combination of drizzle around the coast and halfmoon bay. And San Francisco, if they can manage that, thats quite a bit more than the zero we see in july. And most of the accumulating rainfall there north of napa county up to sonoma here. The sevenday forecast. Once the pattern leaves tomorrow, a big warm up coming back tomorrow. So the reality with the july temperatures. 90s in the forecast back for the trivalley as early as wednesday. So tomorrow a little muggy outside with the flow bringing in the moisture enough to power possibly enough light rain showers early in the morning near San Francisco. 78 degrees in san jose for the north bay. Well see temperatures in the upper 70s. The light showers here mainly for the first part of the day. Well get clearing skies as early as the afternoon. Same story out in the east bay as we transition from a muggy and mild weather pattern to one that is much dryer and hotter as we approach next weekend. Temperatures will be soaring back into the 90s inland as we lose
