Im audrey asistio. All right, well, its a new Global Health emergency. The World Health Organization officially gave monkeypox that designation today. On the same list as six other outbreaks. Covid19, zika, h1n1 and flu and polio. They made the decision after a meeting late this week where experts didnt reach a consensus. So in short, we have an outbreak that has spread around the world rapidly. Through new modes of transmission about which we understand too little and which meets the criteria in the International Health regulations. So at this point the world has seen more than 16,000 monkeypox cases this year and over 70 countries. U. S. Has recorded more than 2500 cases since may. As of last week, the u. S. Has distributed 156,000 doses of the Monkeypox Vaccine to states and ramped up testing capacity. And here if the bay area, advance mayor breed says she ispushing the federal government for more vaccines. There are five sites set up around the city to distribute vaccines. But the problem is a lack of supply. Breed argues that since San Francisco is being disproportionately affected it should receive more doses. What were trying to decide on based on science is whether or not we can look at maybe giving one dose to as many people as we can while we wait for more vaccine from the federal government. Weve been pressing our federal partners to get more vaccines because San Francisco like just even the eke before, we saw like 80 we went from two weeks or three weeks ago to about 60 cases and the next week 80 and now were at 141. So we need San Francisco in comparison to other cities increasing at a rapid pace. Which from my perspective means that we should have more vaccines. Right now, monkeypox is spreading fastest among the lgbtq community. And we have everything you have had need to know about monkeypox on the nbc bay area streaming app. Download it for the roku and apple tv and amazon fire. This is forcing evacuations in mariposa county. So far its burned almost 10,000 acres. Sparked along highway 140 just yesterday afternoon and you can sees this one of the main roads to Yosemite National park. The highway and the number of roads in the area have been shut down and more than 1,000 buildings are also beingthreatened by the fire and we do know at least ten. S already been destroyed. In the meantime the wash burn fire which was burning in yosemite is now almost 80 contained. Weve been following this for quite some time. Its burned about 7. 5 square miles. Thankfully, grove of 500 joint sequoias and other landmarks are safe. Meteorologist rob myetta is tracking the conditions very closely for us around the fire. Whats the late nest. The very challenging conditions firefighters are having to face and fire weather behavior today which is a telltale sign the oak fire is seeing some explosive growth potential. Lets take to you time lapse over that fire. And you can see the large column of plume that pyro cumulus cloud even appearing in the eastern skies of the bay area. Taking a lot of ash and embers high into the atmosphere. High enough that the radar scans can pick it up and thats not rain. Those are large ash and embers which were lofting up to almost 20,000 feet. Theres the level of condensation. Due to the embers falling out of the northeastern skies and the ash in the lighter items lofted up by the strong winds moves a couple of miles downwind. The weather, look at the humidity. Only 8 and even overnight, were really not going to see much relief. Weve got temperatures in the 60s and low 70s. Humidity, 23 . That is poor relative humidity recovery and its warm and dry all night. Back in the 90s tomorrow. Another thing were having to watch with fire growing is more smoke problems. Especially up towards lake tahoe and the sierra. Very unhealthy to unhealthy air quality likely to take over the western sierra starting tomorrow and coming up in the Weather Forecast well talk any change in the wind that may bring a little bit more of that smoke closer to the bay area. Look at that and your forecast coming up in about eight minutes. All right, rob, thank you so much. To dc now. Former Vice President al gore is once again ringing the alarm about the dangers the world is in and how we need to keep finding solutions. You know, the climate deniers are really in some ways, similar to all of those almost 400 Law Enforcement officers in uvalde, texas who were waiting outside an unlocked door while the children were being massacred. They heard the screams. They heard the gunshots. And nobody stepped forward. And god bless those families who have suffered so much. And Law Enforcement officials tell us thats not typical of what Law Enforcement usually does. And confronted with this global emergency, what were doing with our inaction and failing to walk through the door and stop the killing, is not typical of what we are capable of as human beings. Yeah, starting tomorrow morning, some people will be pounding the pavement for the pall marathon 26. 2 miles and others will be running the Half Marathon and 5k runs. About 24,000 people are expected to take part after years of virtual races. And a scaled back event last september. So here is a map that shows all of the street closures you want the avoid those areas. The full marathon starts at theembarcadero and into the mission before ending back at the embarcadero. All right, back to the fire coverage now. Crews are gaining the upper hand on the anzar fire. Now 60 contained. Fire is burning about ten miles south of gilroy. Sparked thursday afternoon and has spread to more than 100 acres so far. One firefighter was hurt while battling the fire. No word yet on their condition and some evacuation orders are still in place. Cal fire says right now, their best focus is putting out flames in dense eucalyptus grove. All right, rob, yeah i mean any winds fueling the flames right now . You have been seeing that during the afternoon hours the winds pick up and weve seen some very dry conditions. Hot temperatures inland but the fog really is helping us out again. Were seeing that around the bay area right now. San francisco, you heard about the San Francisco marathon. Well, hour by hour forecast for that tomorrow. Coming up. And look at the temperature spread uniquely bay area this time of year. My forecast 50s and 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s and i could be correct because weve got that right now. 60s into oakland and 78 degrees around san jose. And were at a comfortable 78 degrees and northwest wind 12 miles per hour. 80s for now around dublin. At this time tomorrow probably getting back into the 90s. Were going to see the inland east bay valleys warm up a little bit for sunday. 64 degrees into oakland with the wind out of the west at 22. Theres the fog. Over the Golden Gate Bridge. The San Francisco marathon tomorrow. Similar conditions and may have some drizzle to start the morning. We saw that around the Golden Gate Bridge in downtown San Francisco probably by about mid morning. That sea braze bringing in the fog but also helping our air quality here. Notice the wind arrows. Strongly on shore so as we look at the aqi levels in terms of wildfire smoke, were not expecting much of an impact at least for sunday. But as you look to the east, big changes there. For places like lake tahoe, the west slope of the sierra as the oak fire continues to expand up to about 10,000 acres. Thats a lot more particulate matter solution. Right now as long as the winds stay on shore most of that should stay away from the bay area. Now for the morning weve got lot of low clouds misty skies to start through about 8 00 and like right now fog around the bridge and the coast as we heads wads the afternoon. Our temperatures going through the Morning Hours will see the numbers starting to climb upinto the afternoon. Well have 80s to some low 90s inland for our inland valleys. Low 60s closer to San Francisco. 70s in oakland and 80s closer to san jose and for the next three days really not much of a temperature change. Notice inland, closer to the low 90s around the east bay valleys. And then trending a little bit cooler once we get into tuesday and wednesday. As a sea breeze turns stronger. This time of the year other than the drizzle we cant really expect much in the way of rain but the sierra could have isolated showers showing up wednesday and thursday. Right there very active monsoon. Look at arizona, that could back out maybe south of lake tahoe. Around thursday. Probably the most interesting part of the forecast to watch with the oak fire ongoing to see how the interaction of monsoon moisture could play out later on next week. San francisco staying comfortably cool. Warmest day may actually head towards next weekend we could see numbers getting close to 70 degrees but for now, heat waves, hot weather for us will be only in the low 90s. Which for this time of year for the inland valleys, not that bad. And enough fog to keep the fire danger down around the central bay. Well take it. Thank you. All right. A celebration, one south bay family celebrating the life of aworld war ii veteran. Stay with us. Welcome back. What better way to ring in 100 trips around the sun than a maya chi band and parade and of course family . San jose world war ii veteran did just that today.
