This new law is going to create tens of thousands of good paying jobs and Clean Energy Manufacturing jobs. Solar factories in the midwest and the south, wind farms across the plains and off our shores, Clean Hydrogen projects and more all across america, every part of america. This bill the biggest step forward on climate ever. Speaking of climate now, when would that take effect . Well, people should be able to access the tax credits for solar improvements on your house and electric vehicle purchases in the next few weeks. South bay Public Transit riders will have more clean, green rides in their future thanks to President Bidens infrastructure law. It provides a 15 million grant in federal grants, 15 million in federal grants. The money will help Valley Transit Authority make electric bus morse efficient with chargers enabling them to travel further. Workers will also get special training on the new equipment. Mountainview will spend its share on six electric shuttle buses and more charging stations. Were learning First Lady Jill Biden has covid19. Her spokesperson says she tested yesterday during routine testing and began to develop coldlike symptoms. The first lady has been in South Carolina vacationing with the president. He, you might remember, was recently infected with covid19, but tested negative today. However, since he is considered a close contact of mrs. Biden, he will continue to mask for the next ten days when indoors and when he is near others. First lady will remain in South Carolina to isolate. As we head into fall, there are renewed concerns about covid and the seasonal flu. The White House Coronavirus coordinate gave an update on a new vaccine booster and the importance of getting the new shot specifically designed for the variants spreading right now. The big picture bottom line is these are substantial upgrades in our vaccines in terms of their ability to prevent infection, to prevent transmission, certainly to prevent serious illness. And those vaccines are coming very, very soon. And so its going to be really important that people this fall and winter get the new shot. Its designed for the virus thats out there. And, again, based on everything we have seen so far, all the data suggests it should be highly effective against the new variants. He also says he expects this fall and winter to look more like the fall and winter of 2019 than the past two years. However, he adds we need to be more ready for more flu and more covid. Concerns for polio are rising after a young adult suffered paralysis during an infection. The virus has been circulating for months in the new york city area. It was found in several samples of sewage water. Experts say the polio vaccine provides near total protection. But an unvaccinated young adult who caught the virus in a new york suburb is now paralyzed at least partially. Its only the second case of local transmission in the United States since the 1970s. Experts say the virus poses a great risk to those who are unvaccinated. Raj, we do have an update on the search for the missing teen up near lake tahoe. Kiely rodni is still missing, and tonight investigators say they are no closer to learning where she is. The Nevada County Sheriffs Department says it is scaling back the search effort. Its been going on for ten days now and included extensive searches by land, air and boat. Kiely was last seen near truckee after attending a party at prosser family campground. They are combing through more than one thousand tips, but they still need teenagers at that party to come forward. The reward is now 75,000 for any information leading to kiely. There is good news out of the east bay. A teen who disappeared saturday morning has been found. Oakland pd released little details, but says 14yearold Natalia Perez rivera is safe and has been reunited with her family. Coming together for the sake of community. Today in San Francisco, police and advocates for black community gathered to promote an upcoming softball tournament. At gilman park it was all smiles and an important message. Community member says they want more Real Community policing, and the police chief agrees. He accepted an invitation to put together a Softball Team to play against teams like the batters up, guns down violence prevention program. The idea, all sides can play together. Were going to rub elbows. Were going to be right here. Were going the eat together. Were going to listen to music together, were going to interact all day. Now were going to know people on a first name basis. But to bring us together in this way, it takes a little bit of the edge off. A lot of these folks that are out here, we work with on a daily basis, trying to address issues in our city. But we dont work with them in this manner. Lets have some fun while were doing it. Reporter for many parents, the worry isnt supplies but staffing. I know the district is scrambling for teachers. So there has been some issues there trying to fill spots. Reporter a couple of weeks ago, the San Francisco Unified School District did put out an advisory that they were short about 100 teachers. But a spokesperson for the district now says that thanks to recruiting and reassigning of credentialed personnel. That will have every classroom staffed on the first day of school. That doesnt mean they filled every vacancy. According to the district, many of the classrooms are being filled by staff who are normally in leadership and curriculum roles. They are certified teachers who will be temporarily filling in. And San Francisco isnt alone. Districts nationwide have been struggling to find teachers. Physical therapist Kelly Cummings says today she is focused on making sure classrooms are all ready for students tomorrow. This will be my fifth school to check in today. Everyone is lets see what happens tomorrow and the rest of the week. So well make it work. The airlines are already canceling thousands of flights in the fall and winter to assure their schedules are aligned with the number of pilots and flight attendants on staff. And of course it will impact your wallet. If you hope to fly over labor day, youll pay about 23 more. When the uc schools start the fall quarter next week, enrollment will be going down slightly, but attendance by californians will be up. Thats because the uc system bowed to pressure and admitted fewer out of state and International Students than in previous years. While they pay higher tuition, calls have been increasing to enroll more california kids. To encourage that, the state legislature has been giving the uc system more money in recent years. Parents, kids are headed back to class, but most wont be going back to cleaner air. Billions of dollars in relief money is ready for k to 12 schools to upgrade ventilation systems, and it turns out most Public Schools havent used that money. But a School District in ohio made a major investment, installing a stateoftheart system with massive chiller, hightech sensors, and uv lights. Some teachers admit they dont know everything this system does, but they know it does provide protection. I definitely think that we feel like we have a healthier, safer school with our clean air. I think that i see the kids seem so much happier not having to wear the masks. Tonight on nightly news, the School Superintendent shares how he got Government Funds to cover 100 of the systems cost. What schools across the country should know. While were dealing with the tripledigits here in terms of heat, check out whats happening in florida. A massive waterspout formed off the coast. Wow. You were only outside for a little bit. It was one of the days where you open the door and oh, my gosh, i need to head back in and maybe wear the shorts and the tshirt to work. It was sweltering. 106 in livermore. Now makes the hottest day this year. Certainly recordsetting it looks like it. Were waiting on the numbers to get certified. But it looks like that will be a new record, at least high one. Walnut creek 105. Napa comes in at 100. Lets take a look towards walnut creek. You can see the temperature trend. This is really mirrored across a lot of our inland valleys through tonight. Its going to be a slow dropoff. 80s at 8 00 and 9 00. And were holding on to some 70s here through 10 00 and 11 00. Yes, numbers will drop. But its going to be super uncomfortable this evening. So make sure you hydrate. If youre feeling a little thirsty, youre usually somewhat dehydrated. So keep that water close or fill that bottle a lot. As we take it into the forecast, its been so dynamic on and off the last couple of weeks. Were still finding the High Pressure over the desert southwest, moving in just the right place here to give us not only the heat, but some monsoonal thunderstorms over the sierra. Now as of today, it does look like a little bit of some of the chances are going to be moving closer to the bay area. So we have upped that chance of thunderstorms for us. And we also have this system off the coastline thats going to bring in fog. A lot of layers. Dynamic situation when it comes to the weather the next 24 hours. Tonight we get the fog off the coastline. Some spotty drizzle. Keep your eyes to the south. Its going to be that monsoonal moisture right there bubbling up foresome chances just outside of napa and near the coastline. Again, its so close, i am adding in the slight possibility we could see some thunderstorms through tomorrow. Then as we hit the afternoon, well continue with some of that monsoonal moisture, keeping some of that humidity in the forecast. So feeling kind of strange as we head through our wednesday forecast.
