New hot spots of toxic chemicals were discovered outside the socalled boundary of that super fun site, so we decided to combine a map of the hot spots with a simple map of under ground infrastructure and discovered that just might provide some answers for what is causing the spread of these toxic chemicals into near by neighborhoods. It could be any nice bike trail along a scene waterway where mallard ducks walk and exercise enthusiasts use. An Environmental Consulting firm and epa discovered a potential threat that may flow through the pipes that enter into the creek. High concentrations of cancercausing chemicals. It came from leaking sewer lines. Reporter lenny see goa goal believes it is the sewer lines. This is a map of that epa Super Fund Site called the new or middle field ellis site. Its been around since the 1980s. When the epa first identified then proposed a remedy to clean uptons of toxic chemicals left in the soil and ground water by the budding Semi Conductor based here. The most prevalent chemical that lingers in the soil, ground water and air is tce, a cleaning so chemical that can cause cancer in people and heart deformities in unborn babies. It was a hard battle. Reporter this couple and their family live just outside the boundary of the toxic plume. The first time we heard he had cancer, we didnt believe it. Reporter six years ago this month, their son edgar developed acute lymphoma when he was three. Edgars cancer is in remission after four years of treatment but after high concentrations were measured outside the super fund plume including in this house across the street, they have more questions. Take a look at the hot spots of tce discovered by epa investigators found just off evan dale avenue along pepper wood court and west near evandale and long drive. Watch what happens when you over lay the map of the sewer and train system we acquired. The hot spots line up with the sewer and storm drains creating enough of a relationship to raise questions whether the under Ground Network is spreading the contamination. The sewer lines connect with the dots, an exact fit. Reporter further bolstering this theory, a study group to the city of mountain view. The group pointed to the storm drains and sewer lines as a potential source of the contamination. Its not proof beyond a reasonable doubt, but the best explanation of the data.
