This man was involved in a road rage incident last night on 101 between 880 and mckee road. This was in san jose. Nbc bay areas Damian Trujillo is there in san jose now. Damian, what happened . Reporter well raj, police had to close down temporarily highway 101 last night as they collected evidence. 20 minutes of road rage ended here in gunfire. It ended here last night along northbound highway 101 near the 880 interchange. 20 minutes of road rage culminating in gunfire from the suspect. The victim wasnt hit. How lucky is this guy . Hes very lucky, actually. One of the two bullets actually entered the interior of the vehicle, went through the Center Console and was lodged in the back of the drivers seat, right in the lumbar region. Yes, he is pushing us off the road. She is coming for us. Reporter the incident was reminiscent of another road rage incident last month, captured on cell phone video on highway 80 north of sacramento. The video shows a santa clara driver allegedly trying to run the victims off the highway. The chp says its better and safer to take the high road in these cases rather than engage the aggressive driver. Its always better to kind of swallow your pride and be able to continue on your route and get to your destination instead of not getting there at all. Reporter the suspect in last nights shooting got away. Last night . Reporter yeah. Over road rage . See how bad it gets . How can you avoid that . Reporter every driver we spoke with today say theyve always been the victim who tries to avoid a confrontation. Thats what i do. When youre in a marked vehicle, there is not a lot you can do. You say thats nice and drive on down the road. Try to be the bigger person on the road if you find yourself in one of these situations. Reporter now both drivers last night were giving each other hand gestures and braking their cars right in front of each other along that 20mile stretch. That road rage was being confronted here. Where we are hurting the most right now is that sierra snowpack. The latest check this week has it at 36 for the southern sierra. Central sierra 35 . And for the northern sierra 43 . Of course we get a majority of our water from the snowpack. And right now there is no sign of any major storm system that would be contributing to that snowpack increasing all the way through the rest of the month. So were going to track more on this storm pattern sitting out here offshore. Protesters are demanding that bart drop charges against 14 people arrested at another demonstration in oakland back in november. To make their point, today they halted trains by blocking the doors. Stranding frustrated riders just trying to get to work. Im all for their cause, but right now i just want to go home. It stinks when this train is held up, when its late. We have appointments. We have families. It costs us all more money and time. Police did arrest two demonstrators. Tonights trains though are back up and running on time. A similar sight in oakland where protesters today took over the Federal Building what n what was labeled as a rally for civil rights, demonstrators chained themselves to the entrance for four hours and 28 minutes. The four hours they say represents the amount of time Michael Browns body was left on the ground after being shot by a Police Officer in missouri. And the 20 minutes, protesters claim, how often an unarmed black person is killed by Police Vigilantes and private security. Todays demonstration is one of several taking place this weekend, a series of events that culminate on monday with a march in oakland on Martin Luther king jr. Today. San francisco led the movement for gay rights which eventually led to allowing samesex marriage in california. But across the nation many samesex couples still dont have that right. The National Debate will soon be resolved. The u. S. Supreme court says it will rule on the divisive issue, either clearing the way for gay marriage in all 50 states or giving power to each state to determine its own policy. Ill tell you, raj, that folks here in the castro are definitely excited to learn that the u. S. Supreme court will soon rule on an issue that many here have mobilized around for years. The right to marry, and for those marriages to be recognized across the country. Tonight the nations highest court is close to ruling. We got married in San Francisco city hall. Reporter Stuart Gaffney and his husband john have been legally married since 2008 when they said i do at San Franciscos city hall. Well, samesex marriage is legal here, its not in 14 other states. We live here in San Francisco. Were not just californians. Were americans. And we want and we deserve to have that freedom to be to be able to be married anywhere in this great nation. Reporter now the u. S. Supreme court has agreed to make a final decision on the issue. Theyll rule by the end of june whether samesex couples have a constitutional right to marry, or if states have the right to decide. This is the actual final question that the Supreme Court would actually be able to answer about marriage. Reporter lawyers at the National Center for lesbian rights represent the tennessee couples in the Supreme Court case including a bay area couple who married in San Francisco, but then moved to tennessee where their union isnt recognized. Samesex marriage advocates like gaffney and lewis hope the Supreme Court will rule in their favor, giving the green light to3v gay marriagecwq,rn all 50 states. I get goose bumps just thinking that maybe in june when the court rules, its truly going to be Marriage Equality across the entire usa. Reporter now i just got a call from save california. Com, a group that opposes samesex marriage. They say they too are excited, but of course they are hoping that the court will leave it up to the states to decide. Again, the u. S. Well the National Organization for marriage which opposes samesex marriages released a statement also today, saying in part quote it is not for the federal courts to substitute their judgment about whether samesex marriage is a good idea or not but to leave it to the people to make a decision about this fundamental institution. And police say this man preyed on kids on the peninsula. The warning tonight about someone who looks like this. The man officers are anxious to track down. The search is under way on the peninsula tonight for a man who says exposed himself to children. Here is a look at the police sketch. Detectives say the man approached three kids playing outside of a san mateo apartment complex and exposed himself. Two of the kids ran off. Before the third girl could get away, police say he asked her to engage in a sex act, but she was able to escape as well. The suspect is described as about 25 years old, short, with marks or blemishes on his face. Well, the search is on tonight for this man. He is suspecting of murdering. Investigators believe that Jose Hernandez is connected to a murder in merced county. But they suspect he may be hiding out on the peninsula. An alleged accomplice was arrested yesterday in menlo park. If you see hernandez, you are being urged to call police. He brings with him some silver and black swagger. The raiders introducing their new head coach today who is a familiar face in the east bay. This is a key higher for an organization desperate to revive itself. Bay area native jack del rio grew up a raiders fan. Now he is the man in charge of resurrecting this franchise. He says he is ready for the big challenge. Nbcs Christie Smith joins us at headquarters in alameda. Reporter very commanding presence. When he spoke, he talked about his plans for creating a Winning Culture for the Oakland Raiders. We spoke with people in hayward who know his success very well, and they think he can bring out the best. Jack del rio wants to boost the mindset of the raiders. As head coach, he talked about his east bay ties but says he came in part for a belief in the organization and leadership. In looking at this opportunity, yes, its coming home. Yes, im from this area and yes, im a lifelong raider. Ive been a raider fan all my life. My dad took me and i sat in the stands and rooted way back when. And so i followed them in my heart the entire time. Jack del rio, best defensive player. Reporter hayward unified School District superintendent stan dobbs looks at the year books. He says del rio, who graduated in 81 plays three sports at hayward high. Jack del rio is one of those we treat as an icon to students especially as an athlete to say you can be anything you want to be in life. You can be like jack del rio. Reporter even with all his success, del rio stays connected. One of the things he has done most recently for his alumni, he is one of the founding members of hayward high farmer athletic organization. What they did not too long ago, just a few years ago, they rebuilt the weight gym for the students. Reporter he believes the raiders have something special. Im excited to join this group of men. And pursue the idea and the goal of bringing back the raiders to greatness. Reporter and the superintendent there in hayward also told us that del rio was such a strong athlete in his day that he still holds a record at the high school in football. Well it is a tentative ruling that may give city college of San Francisco a reprieve. Today a judge ruled that a bay Area Commission may have broken the law by revoking the colleges accreditation before giving the school a chance to respond. Back in 2013 the accrediting commission cited problems with managing and the way it was run. He says the way the commission treated city college is fundamentally flawed. That it undermined the integrity of the Accreditation Process and threatened the Educational Mission of an institution that has done great work for generations of san franciscans. The commission and the city both have 15 days to respond before a judge issues his final decision. A 30year journey comes to an end on monday right here in the bay area. On monday, which is Martin Luther king day, the final freedom train will run from san jose to San Francisco. The symbolic train ride will be the last one of its kind in the entire country. More than two dozen official mlk commemorative trains were launched by kings widow 30 years ago. But a steady decline in interest is the reason the train will no longer run. Mondays train is sold out. Once the news got out of the Program Ending tickets went fast. So how did 20 fremont Senior Citizens manage to walk route 66 from los angeles to chicago . Temperatures in the 50s. But across San Francisco and again the north bay, thats where were finding that drizzle for tonight. Now, for tomorrows forecast i still think well have some spotty areas of mist and drizzle for the north bay and San Francisco. And mainly dry weather for the trivalley, the peninsula, and also the south bay. Temperatures in the 60s. So get you into the weather trend as you head throughout this upcoming weekend, right into Martin Luther king day on monday. And youll see temperatures do cool off by mondays forecast. Driest weather will be in the south bay over the next three days. For the peninsula, its not going to be a rainout this weekend. Again, just some spotty activity, some clouds.
